J.Crew Featured In Martha Stewart Magazine

A big "thanks!" to Belle de Jour & Susan who let us know about one of J.Crew's items being featured in the latest issue of Martha Stewart magazine. Also, "thanks!" to Susan who also took a picture with her phone's camera for us to view!

Belle de Jour shared with us that the item is J.Crew's Golden Foil Agnes Jacket (Item 12180; $478) and appears in the article titled "Jacket Required". I was unable to locate the jacket online. Thankfully JLiz/Lizpoms shared an image of the jacket from a look book sent to card members over at here {great} blog (click here for her post).

After seeing both images, I do like the jacket. I love the length and shape. I would love to see the item in person.

What are your thoughts on the jacket? Have you seen, tried on, or purchased this item? If so, please share with us your review! :) What are your thoughts on the fabric for the jacket (e.g. are you a fan and love it or do you dislike it)?

  1. Yeah, let me run right out and pick up this jacket for about $500. No thanks. I cannot even see it clearly in the pictures....gold foil? sound a bit tacky, 80's and in bad taste....maybe if I could actually see the jacket clearly I would change my mind but the price seem ridiculous for a gold jacket. I mean, the C.F. Astrid had least was unique and had a "fresh" sensibility about it and was less $$

  2. I think the shape is cute, but wonder if it's pinned in the back to disguise that it's just another typical JC boxy jacket. ;)

  3. You can watch a video of the jacket being modeled on the Martha Stewart show here:

    http://www.marthastewart.com/article/spring-jackets-the-martha-stewart-show

Skip up to about minute three, unless you want to see all the chit chat beforehand. Anyway, I was diasappointed in the jacket. It does seem to be another boxy-fit J Crew piece, and it doesn't seem to have buttons, either.

I was relieved, because at $500, I didn't want to want it!

  4. I will wait to see this online or IRL before deciding whether or not I like it, although at the $478 it won't really matter since I can't afford it anyways. ;)

I tried the link and it said not found?????

Hmmm, I don't know. I tried it again on my computer and it took me to the page correctly. Maybe it's some technical issue I don't know how to resolve.

In any case, I found the page by Googling "Golden Foil Agnes Jacket". The link to the show appeared on the my first page of results.

  7. I watched the video and think the jacket actually is pretty cute...just not $478 cute. The RL jacket shown after it is really nice, too. Try this link: Spring Jackets and see if it will work.

  8. I can't even start to process getting a jacket that costs over $100-ha!

Speaking of seeing j.crew in magazines...I was looking at the march issue of Women's Health in the doctor's office yesterday and saw a Rockport shoe ad where the model was wearing the orange (cerise?) victoria shirt. Pretty cool!

  9. The new Marie Claire has several J Crew items throughout the pages, the painted dream dress, a long sleeve pink cardigan, and some other items- it's April's issue touting budget friendly clothes. I can't scan right now, maybe someone else has it?

  10. Have you noticed the jacket that Kate Perry is wearing? She's the one helping introduce the jackets. Her jacket is, by far, my favourite.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Thanks for the video link FFM! It works. I LOVE the jacket although it is definitely out of my budget, too. I agree with FFM - the RL jacket is nice and I love the way it's styled.

  12. I actually really like the jacket - just *not* for $500.

  13. FFM, I got your link to work just fine. Thanks so much!

  14. I love the 5th jacket. Wish JCrew did a jacket like that one and not the oversized one they have out now...

  15. I need buttons and warmth for that price point. LOL It is a nice jacket. I do plan on purchasing a couple of warm weather blazers. I am going to start with the JC Soiree Sateen Blazer #12230e in spicy olive and slate. This coming Fall I will get two longer blazers.

I think if someone likes the little gold jacket and can afford it what a wonderful choice and addition to their wardrobe it will be.

  16. Yes Kate Perry's jacket was awesome and the best!

  17. My pale gold JC flats get me some weird looks by the conservative colleagues. I can't imagine how they'd react to a gold jacket. I love the shape, but for the price, would opt for the cassette jacket first.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It looks cute from what I can see, but price point too high for me.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It looks cute, but not for me.

  20. Fantastic. I'll buy it to wear over the $2,000 Gwen dress :-)

  21. OT - Does anyone know when the new items are due to hit the B&M and the web? I had thought I had heard today. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I watched the video link FFM posted, and when she's walking out you can kind of see the jacket flap open - it looks like it might have a pink lining. Still too $$$ for me, but I love cute details like a fun lining!!

  23. No giant update to the sale section yet....

    ReplyDelete
  24. I keep waiting for the update as well.... is it possible it was earlier this morning than it has been the past couple weeks? I feel like the update may have already happened and it was just small based on the items in my cart! hmm

    ReplyDelete
  25. Women's section is down to 500 items or so. After the update there's usually 900-1100 items. I hope there is an update today!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am waiting for an update, although I don't know why since I don't need to spend anymore money!

Jacket is cute but the price tag is not!

To the person that asked about new spring rollout I know the B&M in Dallas near me is doing their rollout on Friday. Not sure when it will happen online.

  27. Based solely on the pictures, the design of this jacket (from the front) reminds me of the Tulip Jacket from last Spring / Summer without the Tulip style sleeves. I could be totally wrong when I actually get to see this in person. But the Tulip was a boxier jacket with a slight cut-away front - similar to the design of this jacket (based on pictures only).

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like the style, but not the fabric choice. A nice spring color would be great.

    ReplyDelete
  29. i love the cut/style of the jacket but i don't care for the gold and not at that price. maybe it will come in other fabrics like the astrid did. :)

  31. I'm debating about the Faille Maisey jacket ( in dusty rose as the blue is sold out) and wondered if anyone has it? Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anon 1:29: I bought the Maisey in dusty rose and returned it. I'm trying to only keep items I truly love, and this jacket didn't do it for me. I thought it looked very "blah" when I tried it on.

I think I'll skip it, especially since it's on FS and I can't return it.

  35. FYI -

I just spoke to a CS rep at Easton Town Center in Columbus, Ohio and she told me that their new arrivals are out on the floor now.

I'm going to check them out tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  36. So cute, but why $500.00...I would like J.Crew to get some more affordable options (i.e. in the 100-200 dollar range!)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anonymous at 1:29pm: I purchased the Faille Maisey jacket and returned it. First, it runs big. I needed to go down a size. Second, it's definitely more of an outerwear item--like a light jacket for spring. I was looking for more of a blazer substitute. Third, it didn't really go with anything but jeans.

  38. OT, there's a feature in this week's Time Out New York with Jenna and Frank discussing fashion trends:

    http://www.timeout.com/newyork/articles/spring-fashion/72553/trend-or-faux

    ReplyDelete
  39. Cass, thanks for the link. I especially like this line from Jenna:

Trends are scary because when something becomes a trend, people decide to wear them whether they look good in them or not, and that’s where people fall off the cliff.

    So true.

  40. New arrivals are out:

There is the cutest (IMO) jacket at my B&M. Linen/cotton, fully lined, chunkier weave, natural-colored & metallic threads, with 3/4 length sleeves and best of all, no inverted pleat in the back. I think it's a good fit (TTS) and absolutely darling. Single-breasted, the collar is kind of like the Issy sweater jacket, but meets in the middle as opposed to the overlapping on the Issy. It has 3 enamel buttons that look like they may be a bit heavy, and front slash pockets. Cute as a button! $148.00

Other than that, nothing really moved me. There were some short-sleeved broadcloth shirts with the same neckline as the Atelier jacket, and all the typical slub tunics and beachy cover-ups. The thing that really stuck out to me was that most of the sweaters were shedding all over the place (maybe it was the merino, or all the little chiffon embellishments) so most things looked like they had a little layer of fuzz on them. The good thing was that a lot of the pieces looked so basic, I already own some incarnation of them. Bad news for JC, good news for my wallet!

The manager at the B&M said that this rollout was the last of their spring merch. Their summer stuff is always cute to me, but on the whole, unimpressive - we'll see what they have to offer this year.

Seriously though, if you go - check out that adorable jacket!

  41. Silver Lining, did the silk print cami/tank make it in this rollout? It was shown in a pink shade with a larger-scale white and yellow print. Sort of a scarf-print, if KWIM.

    TIA

  42. Silver Lining, here is the link to the tank I seek. From Slastena's blog. Thank you Slastena!

  43. Hi all,

    Thanks for the great links... Kept me busy during my lunch :}

I also found the jacket on the JCrew site near the end of the collection slideshow at:

    http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Feature_Assortment/jcrewcollection.jsp

    Although I think FFM's link is more helpful. Also think I'd rather spend the $$$ on the Edie eyelet dress that's on the same rack as the jacket :}

Thanks also Cass for the link!

It's a little OT, but the NYT has an interesting article about the latest fashion shows at:
    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/19/fashion/19WRAP.html?pagewanted=1

I did think it was appropriate when they wrote: "Considering the economy, retailers were dismayed that houses didn’t come up with more affordable items. 'I’m still befuddled with blouses over $1,000,' Mr. Frasch said. 'We’re talking about something that women wear to work.” Yeah! Maybe someone's actually listening!

Anywho, thanks again for all the great tips & links,

    Heather:D

  44. Hi again,

    Great LaBelleHelene!
    Couldn't stop laughing. I kept imagining myself at one of those chic parties in Sex & the City when no one is allowed to drink anything but clear beverages for fear that someone might spill it :}

    Cheers!

  45. Hi Georgia Girl - I didn't see it in my B&M, but I think it's a Collection piece, which my store doesn't tend to get. Maybe some NYC JCA's will be able to weigh in?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Sorry OT but OMG!!! Just got the parcel that was supposed to be my Primrose Necklace, wrong item. Instead it is a stone-bead Ribbon Necklace in one of last year's colors!

Do the CS people honestly not even READ the invoice coming through that says Primrose on it? How can JC's customer service continue to be so bad? Has this happened to any other JCA's and what did you do?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hi anon@9pm. This happened to me a couple weeks ago (when I was shipped a hideous pair of pants in lieu of a skirt). I called CS and told them they shipped me the wrong item. They immediately credited the cost back to my credit card and then did a We Will Find It search for me since the skirt was sold out by then. Amazingly, they found the skirt in one of their stores and shipped it to me for free. Unfortunately they charged me the cost the skirt sold for in store at the time versus the much much lower price I got online, though that was fairly easily resolved once the skirt arrived and I took my two invoices in to a local B&M. I also just dropped off the ugly pants to the store, though I suppose I could have kept them if I wanted since they already gave me the credit. Hope this helps! Good luck!

  48. OT - Kate Walsh wearing the strapless abstract roses dress on PP tonight!

  49. Thank you silver lining. I hope it comes up on the website soon. I love the scarf print on the silk cami. Totally my style.

  50. Really like this jacket, but think I would purchase the cassette instead, if I was going in that price bracket. That cassette fabric appears to be gorgeous and unusual.

After placing 5-10 orders per month for the last 6 months. I just received my first cancellation I will not be receiving my constellation cardi after all. It popped up in my size earlier this week. Placed order immediately. This should def. show everyone who questions whether J. Crew's Collection items are selling. It just came in and is not even on sale.

  52. GoldCoastGal - I would NOT purchase the Editor. My PS showed me a returned one she had received last week, and I was not impressed. The shape and resin chain just were very non-descript to me. They almost seemed "generic design" rather than what I usually like about J Crew as far as details are concerned. Not as styled or as detailed as the Jamie. The colors are probably different enough that you could find uses for both in your wardrobe though.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The constellation cardi still has 17 available in M and 12 in S. I would expect that to be the case for such an expensive cotton cardi, albeit with handcrafted embellishments. It's a lovely piece, but not for everyone so they wouldn't make hundreds IMHO.

I do agree though, the collection pieces sell. I am a big fan and have purchased a number of collection pieces over the years. Nothing exciting this season though. Or at least, not worth the money.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Anon @11:12 - Yes, there are small and mediums left. However, the XS and large sold out about two weeks ago. Of course, they are not making many, as sparkles are not for everyone. Just interesting that this sold out in sizes before delivery even took place. Given the hostility towards higher price points demonstrated by a majority of JCAs, I sometimes forget others are out there still shopping. I was hoping that when they finally arrived, there might be a few extras and was thrilled to see the large on there Tues. I ordered both the Med and large, but am pretty sure I will need the large. Took a med in the art-deco and Taylor, so maybe there is some small hope. Seems quite fitted on the model though. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

  57. Why is everyone against the boxy jacket? Not everyone is a size 0.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Totally agree about the boxy fit. I am a size 10 about mid height and these jackets just fit me beautifully. As a matter of fact, J. Crew is all about the jackets and sweaters for me. The shirts are too narrow-armed and the skirts and most pants too narrowto , but the jackets, they almost always work and look great!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Not everyone is against boxy jackets. I think this past season there was an abundance on JC.

    ReplyDelete
  60. What does a size 0 have to do with a boxy jackets?

It's amazing the cardi sold out so quickly. Perhaps they didn't make many outside S & M sizes. Some of those unique pieces though, to die for!!
