A big "thanks!" to Anon at 6:18 PM (in this post) who let us know that J.Crew not only is featuring LemLem, a children's line of handmade clothes, but also provides a video about Lemlem on their website (click here to view video). Even more fabulous, J.Crew's Creative Director Jenna Lyons interviews Liya Kebede, founder of LemLem.
In addition to understanding the creation & inspiration behind LemLem, we also get to see "behind the scenes" of the photoshoot for the latest catalog (click here to view the catalog online). It is a relatively short video, but still interesting to watch. :)
What are your thoughts on the video? Do you like or dislike the LemLem line? How much do you l-o-v-e the Milla Gown (Item 11729; $495.00), as shown on Liya in the first image? ;)
I think it's great that they are doing this, I honestly hope this money helps support Ethiopian economic independence.
ReplyDeleteOT: anyone noticed a pair of sandals with glass-crystal gems for $238 on JCrew website? (Item 14128)
What makes them worth over $200?
I bought a similar pair of designer sandals for a lower price...
I, too think the idea behind picking up the LemLem is great, but I wish they'd picked more inspiring pieces to captivate buyers. I love seeing the models on video; it shows off their personalities IRL rather than just on a still-life picture. Liya is just gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI think it's great they picked up the line, but to be truthful, I am more interested with what is going on with the women's department. I honestly thought there would be more new arrivals, and I am disappointed in the petite selection...maybe more will come out??
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for choosing Lem Lem. Sorry to say Jenna doesn't look attractive in that video at all.
ReplyDeleteI adore those Lemelem dresses! Almost want to pick one up for myself and wear it as a tunic!
ReplyDeleteand yes Gingersnap - I too wish there was more new things for petites and people wearing short inseams. More pants with 31" inseam please!
The clothes are cute and it's nice to support a good cause. I have to agree that there isn't the same cuteness factor this rollout. I've found a few nice things, but nothing that makes me say, "wow, cute!"
ReplyDeleteI just got a 25% discount card to be used in store until April 30, 2009 for being a J.Crew enthusiast. Did anyone else get one?
ReplyDelete^There is an entire thread about this.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Posey. But hopefully the next line will have more captivating pics. And, yes, Liya is so lovely I can't stand it.
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 7:37pm,
It's weird that you say that because when I was watching I thought that Jenna looked more beautiful than she ever has before. Despite any airbrushing or whatever they do to her in magazines, I think she looks prettier here on film than she does in pictures.
Also, at one pint, one of the little girls is doing the robot during the shoot. JCrew, can we please get more videos with the kiddies? They are so precious!
ReplyDeleteI got my 25% off red card in the mail today!!! :):):)
ReplyDeleteHow much does everyone LOVE Jenna's toned-down look? Black blazer, pearl cluster necklace, and imperfect hair. A lot less quirky, but still very Jenna. :)
ReplyDeleteLiya- gorge, and Lemlem- too cute! I'd rather wear a couple of those dresses than, say, the plisse strap monstrosity!
ReplyDeletequestion for an sa or anyone else who might know: If I buy a skirt at store X on Monday, can that store associate who sold me the skirt tell if return it later in the week (or anytime, I guess) at store Z? I mean, will it affect his/her commission because it'll show up under his sales as having been returned? TIA for any help.
ReplyDeletemarie curie -- the sale will be taken away from the SA who originally sold the item to you, but they won't know what specifically was returned or who returned it.
ReplyDeleteI love Jenna's hair pulled back in an artfully messy look. Sometimes when she wears it down it looks messy but not artfully so.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the new Madison ave. boutique they are opening this spring? another madison ave store? I wonder if this is just for crewcuts or they will be featuring the lemlem pieces at the bridal boutique they are supposed to be opening.
Sorry for being OT but J Crew is offering 30% off Final Sale. Valid through April 2, 2009. Yipee!!!
ReplyDeleteExtra 30 percent off final sale on the website with EXTRA30! The code was posted sometime this evening, I think...
ReplyDeleteOops, the code is EXTRA30. I got soooo excited, I forgot to post the code. lol! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteCrew_Girl_In_Canada
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for posting 30% off!! I will place an order:)
Just a warning to anyone considering the merino crosshatch cardi which is now in the FS section. It's a big thumbs-down in person. It is oddly cropped, and the colors are ugg in person (I ordered both the pink and brown, they are both unattractive IRL). The chiffon part comes flat and not fluffy like it appears in the pics.
ReplyDeleteYou guys should wait until Weds to order unless something is very low in stock--there will be further markdowns on Weds. and then you will be pissed if you ordered at the higher price!!!
ReplyDeleteVery good point, Anon 12:24!
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with some of you that Jenna looks good in the video. I like the more simpler look on her. Reminds me a bit of Sarah Jessica Parker in movie "the Family Stone" (I think that is what the film is called). :)
ReplyDeleteAnon @ 12:24am--it's called a price match...duhhhhh!
ReplyDeleteI too liked Jenna's look. I don't mind pony tails and I'm curious what she used to hold it back as it looked almost like a plain fabric-covered black elastic that I use at home sometimes (the ones without any metal). J.crew has some lovely hair accessories and I have many, but I couldn't really see what Jenna was using.
ReplyDeleteI liked Jenna's look in the video more than any other time I have seen her. Her hair was fantastic and it was SO nice to see her NOT in yellow!
ReplyDeleteAs for the Milla gown: I absolutely LOVE it, but it is way too far out of my price range, not to mention very impractical for my lifestyle.
Crewcuts: the little girls graphic tees are SO adorable!
9:03 AM, it's JC policy not to do a price adjustment if the item was not full price to begin with. Plus the 30% off says not eligible for prior purchases...so you'll only get a price adjustment if you get a super accomodating CSR. But whatever, it's your money so spend as you please.
ReplyDeleteI think Jenna looks great in the video. But I find her a little annoying, like a girl I went to high school with named "Muffy" (or something like that).
ReplyDeleteThat is my daughter doing the robot...how funny i didn't see that during the shoot
ReplyDeletebytheshore8,
ReplyDeleteYour daughter is so precious! And she's so lucky to be a crewcuts model. Should we expect her on the women's side of the catalog in about 10-15 years?
Incidently, she's doing my most favorite dace ever, which is why it caught my eye. Really. Just ask most of my friends what move I bust out on a regular. ;)
bytheshore8: That is so cool! And your daughter is g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s too. :)
ReplyDeletelexieloo: LOL! I like the robot dance too! ;)

ReplyDeleteThere is a review of this sweater on one of the blog links Alexis has listed. It looks really good to me IRL and the reviewer would have bought it in store if they had had any colors other than pewter. It looks supercute to me and I just bought one in the rose....so hey, everyone check out the review on: my closet, my baby and I
