J.Crew Featured In Elle Magazine

A big "thanks!" to Sweetmint who not only let us know about one of J.Crew's new arrivals being featured in the latest issue of Elle magazine, but also scanned the image for us to view! (Click on the images itself or here to see it larger.)

The clutch is described as being satin and retails for $118. This is a new item, yet to be released online (or at least I could not find it). ;)

However, I do remember a similar purse from an earlier post (refer to the "J.Crew Wedding Collection: Sneak Peek to Spring '09" post). The only difference I can see between the two purses is the closure. The pink purse looks to have a different closure on the top than the green purse (which has the typical "shiny brass-finish frame closure").

What are your thoughts on the new clutch? Are you a fan of (or do you dislike) the design and fabric? Is this item already available in stores? If so, please share! :)

  2. I actually like the purse, but would wait for a good markdown because it is something I'd only get to use a few times a year with specific "going out" outfits.

  3. Ok coffin lining is pretty funny and ruins the image of the purse for me. Before I read that I thought it was ok. They definitely have better clutches.

  4. OMG. LOL. Coffin lining clutches. How funny (and how true) I am not a fan of silk purses on the whole unless the silk is very substantial and will wear well esp. cluthes b/c you are constantly touching/holding them.

  5. Anon at 12:33AM: Your observation is hysterical! Now that you mentioned it, it does kind of look like that! ;) LOL!

  6. Ok, Coffin Lining! HaHa! But I kind of like this clutch! But no way for that price. I would only get it at a greatly reduced price!

  7. I think it's awful.

  8. Its pretty, but I wouldn't pay full price for it, lol, coffin lining!

OT, does JC and others pay these magazines to be featured so much, or how does this work? JC seems to be regularly in magazines 'featured'.??

Stitched together in China and sold at the dollar store. Sorry I meant sold at JCrew.

  10. I think this purse is very pretty. If it comes in the right color and has a nice strap, I will buy it.

A lot of clutches have a chain or other type of strap so you don't have to hold it constantly, like when you are mingling, shaking hands, eating hors d'oeurves and holding a cocktail. Definitely prefer silk clutches with a strap.

I'm sure I'll think of coffin lining every time I wear it, but I stuff like that doesn't bother me. It's cute bag.

  11. The thing with J.Crew is that the item featured in the magazine is not necessarily the item availale for sale, as we saw with the crocodile cardi. The magazine version had white tipping. That version was never available for sale. At least, not that I have seen yet.

  12. too funny! but i do think it's cute. speaking of items spotted in magazines....
has anyone seen the latest shape magazine? (hmm...maybe it was self magazine. i was at the gym, and i know it was one of the two.) there was a cardigan in the trastevere print, but it had turquoise jewels at the neckline. it was listed as a WD-NY brand item. ve-ry interesting. i thought trastevere was a j.crew only print?!

  13. Caliglam: I work in PR (although not fashion PR), and can pretty safely say that J. Crew doesn't pay for the placements. When working with major magazines like that, editorial coverage is purely based on items the editors of the magazines like. Just my two cents...

  14. I thought that Jenna didn't like small purses......

  17. 10:44 - you are one busy gal when you're out with your clutch. ;-)

I don't mind this style, even though I'm not a big fan of ruffles. They work on a clutch as that is usually a piece you will use in a dressy setting so it won't be out of style when ruffles are passe.

  18. This bag is so cute, but since its made of silk it would be a "no go" for me. Silk is just not practical, one spilled drink or something and the whole bag would be ruined...talk to me about leather bags and I'm all about it!
