Love It Or Leave It: Silk Pleated Skirt

Silk Pleated Skirt

Item 11653
Regular: $250.00

"Thanks!" to Em (in this post) who brought our attention to this skirt for a post.

To start off, I am not a fan of this skirt...

The website describes it as "A very special, limited-edition skirt in champagne silk georgette. This is a classic silhouette that never goes out of style. We love the mini-pleats and—the best part—the way it swings when you walk". From the additional views of the skirt, the silhouette does not seem like it will be flattering to anyone with curves, in particular those with curvy thighs.

Also, I wonder how those mini-pleats hold up when you continuously sit down. I have a sneaky suspicion those pleats will not maintain their shape and look a bit messy after awhile (which is an issue that most pleated skirts have).

Lastly, what is up with the waist on it? First, it looks like it sits very high on the model, despite being described as "sits at waist". Second, the double stitching around the waist seems to create an imaginary bulge around the tummy, while emphasizing the thighs- something that my pear shaped frame needs no help with. ;)

What are your thoughts on the Silk Pleated Skirt? Do you "love it" or would you "leave it"? Do you already own this skirt or have seen it at a store? If so, please share with us your review. :)

  1. Uhhh.....not a fan.

A "Grecian Goddess" that totally missed the mark. Even the model doesn't quite know how to play it. She's looking for an exit.

  2. This is a leave it for me. All those pleats will make my post-baby pouch even pouchier. No thanks!

I might pair it with the beaded Zebra tee and military jacket for a safari look though...

  3. I think it's quite pretty, but I'm not sure what they were going for with the double-banded look at the waist. The skirt would definitely look great on a tall, willowy person, but forget it for those on the curvier or shorter spectrum. It would look wonderful paired with a simple white top and olive canvas jacket... very summery and breeze-y.

Practically, though, I agree those pleats would require lots of maintenance, especially in such a delicate fabric.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Personally, would leave it. Not a huge fan of the skirt.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Definitely not a fan. It looks like it'd likely hit mid-calf on me. That along with the shape (and the price!) makes it a big huge no.

    ReplyDelete
  6. It looks bad on her because like most J. Crew models she has no waist. This would look amazing on anyone who has a clearly defined waist.

    ReplyDelete
  7. If they can't make it look good on the model, then it's probably going to look like absolute crap on a real person. I'd be amazed if someone could post a flattering photo of herself in this skirt.

I sew a lot, and something looks really wrong with the waist treatment. I think it's that line of stitching below the waistband, the skirt probably bulged out without it. I just looks like a total afterthought to me, and I think it's bizarre. And I might not be right but it looks like the pleats are stitched close at the bottom, and I think it looks really funky-bad.

I suspect it's a maintenance nightmare, so if you can make it look good on you then it will be fine for the first wearing, IF you don't sit down. :)

I predict that this will end up in final sale section in all sizes.

  9. Speaking of pleats... can anyone comment on the Silk georgette pleated tank? Unlike this skirt, the tank has potential.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Also, with all those pleats, it's going to cost a fortune to dry clean it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. GRANNNNNNNNNN-MAAAAAA

    ReplyDelete
  12. NOT flattering to any body type ... unflattering length, waist treatment, mini pleats, and price! Color and fabric are pretty ... but way off in the execution. Leaving it, even at FS.

    ReplyDelete
  13. This skirt makes the model look very bottom heavy and she seems a bit angry to be wearing it. If anyone wants one, they can be found a thrift stores across the nation in every color and you won't have to worry about the pleats becuase they are made from polyester

    ReplyDelete
  14. I agree with all the criticism about the shape of it and would add that it also looks very old and dowdy to me. Those mini pleats don't look the least bit contemporary and when combined with that granny panty champagne color, I'm thinking maybe on a 70 year old former model (still stick thin).

    ReplyDelete
  15. I have a similar light yellow chiffon pleated skirt from JC that's about 5 years old - the pleats are much farther apart and it's quite cute for spring/summer. Of course, it was also $10 from eBay. I think that the price on this skirt is ridiculous, especially considering that close-up, there are probably skipped stitches and unravelling thread at the waistband.

That being said, I am also intrigued by the pleated georgette tank - anybody seen it IRL? I'm hoping it goes down to $19.99 or so like the Joelle eventually did.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Leave it! It's way too long for me. It actually reminds me of when Ariel tied the sail around her in Little Mermaid :) Anyone? Anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Not loving this look at all. It looks rather dumpy and like it would not be flattering for any body type. But those of you who can rock it out...more power to ya! And I'd like to see pics!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ok... so I like it. :) I'd totally wear it. Of course, I'm on the thinnish side and nearly 6 feet tall. I actually like the shape and it looks like an Express skirt that I've had for nearly a decade. Hmm... I guess I can wait to snatch it up when it gets to final sale since it seems like no other JCA is biting.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well, if this skirt ever came in a size 14 it is sold out...not sure what that means...but well...thought I would mention it.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think this would look great on a model type, meaning tall and thin. It creates an interesting silhouette on the model which I think looks chic. But would I get it? Not in a million years!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. It's grecian inspired, but also seems very 1920s to me. Reminds me of an old-timey tennis skirt! It screams Jordan Baker (ok she was a golfer, but they wore long skirts back in the day, too!).

    -Heather

    ReplyDelete
  22. The model is rocking it on page 74 of the catalog.

This skirt is really dressy and I've seen a lot of women of all ages wear this style to luncheons, and garden parties. Probably won't sell too many to the J.Crew crowd.

And yes, the drycleaning will cost a fortune, there is usually a per pleat cost for pressing.

Pass for me, too fussy. My sister will probably get it though, she can pull it off with her broomstick figure.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Very OT here, but since care of the garment DID come up...does anyone have suggestions on the care of another (beloved) pleated garment: the Victoria Ruffle Cami? I have it in Navy and LOVE it...but not sure how to deal with cleaning it. I am afraid that the ruffles will jack-up the dry cleaning cost and wondering if it is possible to clean at home. Any suggestions, JCAs?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sorry, but did Em actually try on this skirt, or is this review more of a critique from afar? I realize it's not posted as a review per se, but it'd be nice to hear from someone who actually tried on this skirt in person.

    ReplyDelete
  25. OT, sorry. Yesterday someone said they'd pull the trigger on the library cardi if grey went on sale... looks like today's the day!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think this skirt would feel beautiful on and I will have to try it and twirl around. Go ahead and laugh, but I find it princess-like.

    ReplyDelete
  27. This skirt... Butt heinous, thigh heinous, tum heinous, bleargh.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I saw this IRL at the Collection store. It is beautiful. However, I think it is a really bad cut (i.e. too long, too many pleats on the hips). It even makes the model look like she has big hips.

    ReplyDelete
  29. anon @ 1:27 am. Silk pleated georgette tank: I tried this on a couple of weeks ago. It fits nicely IRL, however I think it's an item best tucked in. The bottom seems to "float" out. It would probably fit best on a small chested person. The pink color is beautiful. However, I wouldn't spend the full price on it, and will wait until it's on FS. Hope this helps!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jenn-Would you say that the silk pleated georgette tank hits at low hip? I'm under 5 feet tall and some of the other tanks and luxe tees are practically skirts when the hit at low hip.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ummmm..... definitely a leave it for me!

    ReplyDelete
  32. F...ugly! Looks matronly!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Site updated for today...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Leave it. The pleats and colour would make anyone look like the Titanic.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I thought this skirt was lovely, especially on the model in the March catalog when she wore it belted...considering how many JCAs don't like it, maybe it will go on super-sale in the FS?!? :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wow! Major update lots of handbags & shoes. I saw some Lulu's Platinum, Jamie bag, lots of goodies ladies hurry. Unfortunately I spent $3000 in one month, how I don't even know, can't figure it out. I guess everytime the site updates I buy. Major spending ban :(

    ReplyDelete
  37. Re: the site update. A few colors in the Cate slingbacks are one sale for $99. I picked up a pair today, but that was it. I'm pretty happy because I liked them in store but I was too tired to try them on (and the place was busy, I would have probably had to wait forever to ask a SA for anything).

    ReplyDelete
  38. Lots of updates but when you click through many items are sold out. Lulu's included.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I actually think it looks quite lovely on the model, but agree it would probably take a modelesque body to make it look good. [Alas, it is not for shrimpy me.]

Yay to those who dig it - expect a price drop, soonish!

    ReplyDelete
  40. OT, does anyone who is 5'9" and wears city cut pants/denim from J Crew have the cherie top? The solid colors were not made in tall. The description says hits at hip, but my I don't want skin showing as I move around with my city pants. Also, thumbs up or down for "C" chests? Thx!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love pleated skirts, but the waist band on this one is a disaster, no wonder the model is wearing a wide belt, to cover it up. The color is blah, and I agree the fabric will make it too high maintenance (dry clean, ironing etc). I don't think I'll turn to JC for pleated skirts.

    ReplyDelete
  42. OT vent...don't you hate it when you're standing in front of the register area and the lady behind the counter is busy doing something and she sees you but doesn't even acknowledge that you're there...I just came back from my local JC right now and this happened to me...she didn't even say "just one moment" or anything...then when she did come to me, no smile...UGH this is why I would rather shop online

    ReplyDelete
  43. Lexieloo - thanks for the tip about the Cates! Just snagged a couple pairs with student discount :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. First thought when I saw this skirt: Reminds me of the sheer curtains that my grandmother has at her nursing home. Hopefully no one will take offense to that statement.

On the right body type it might look good but for me it is a definite leave.

    ReplyDelete
  45. So, a report from someone who has worn the skirt. I totally understand those who don't care for it and wouldn't buy it. It's a hard skirt to pull off even for this tall, slim (Swedish) girl.

I ordered it with my rewards cards. I tried it with a wide belt in root and the Alessia heel in root and with the matching silk tank (outfit shown in catalog) and actually think it looks kind of timeless along with the Forever 21 pearl cluster necklace. Sure, the skirt waistband is tough and to keep the tucked in silk tank from billowing was a struggle, but if you order the belt shown in the catalog (I just did; the root wide patent belt slipped around a lot), I think it will work better the next time.

I'm not overly tall at 5'7, but I've got the legs for it. (shameless plug for my long legs)

It reminds me of the awesome stuff J Crew used to make in the early 90s with georgette when I was in high school and couldn't afford it. The pleats stay when you sit just fine, but I am worried about the waistband holding up. I am keeping it, since I didn't pay that much for it. Because of the way it sits at my waist, I do use a tummy control undergarment. Hope this helps!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yes, the site updated today and I was online right at the moment it happened but when you clicked on things they were already sold out which means must not have had them to begin with b/c I saw the update right away. I just don't get this????

I just look. I don't buy final sale b/c I have no store to try on first. Final sale is just not customer friendly. I am not going to pay $119 for a silk top that might not fit. No way!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Back in the late 80s, I had a JC skirt very similar to this one. It fabric was a cotton knit and the color was eggplant. I remember thinking at the time that the design was reminscent of old-time tennis skirts. If you have good proportion between shoulders and hip, some curves and long legs, this skirt probabbly works. The model is just too stick straight to pull the look off. The model in the March catalog wears the skirt much better.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Site updated with many FS items - but only one of each in many cases! Before I could get to checkout all of my seven items were gone! Getting fed up with this baloney......

The skirt is a disaster, reminds me of the dirndls of my youth. One should only wear this style in BAVARIA.

    ReplyDelete
  49. OT-- I have not received my March catalog yet, wondering if anyone else hasn't, either. We usually get 2 at the house- one in my name, one in bf's, but nothing so far. Sure, I can look online, but sometimes you want to lounge on the couch with a catalog, not a laptop... :/

  50. I have two J Crew skirts from the early 90s, one rayon and one silk. They both have pleats that reach to the top of the waistband. It's definitely a difficult look to pull off if you have curves. I think the skirt looks beautiful, especially when walking and the pleats are flowing. Very feminine. You don't see that kind of romantic look anymore.

Monica 11:20am, I totally agree with you about the SAs being unhelpful. I MUCH prefer to shop online as well.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love it and hope that it goes on sale since I can't quite justify the price tag!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Before reading your review I went to the product page and thought "that has to be the most unflattering skirt ever". I can tell this skirt would make me look enormous. Then I read your review - and you wrote something along the same lines.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The double band is an issue for me too. It looks like it's adding unnecessary bulk in a sensitive area. Also, I haven't been pleased with the drape of a lot of their pleated silk items lately.
    So leave it for me

    ReplyDelete
  54. Was heinous an option?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Me no likey for ME. It reminds me of a skirt my grandmother wore.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I loved it in the America catalog- I love fuller skirts, especially ones that hit the knee- but this close up of the waist bothers me! This might be worth the money to me, though.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I LOVE this skirt-- I think it's BEAUTIFUL! Hopefully, no one will buy it, and one day it will be going for $29.99 (silk dupioni skirt, anyone? i bought two!). I am 5'8" and slender, with a proportionally small-ish waist, and I think this skirt, with it's classic cut, would actually flatter my figure-- especially with a lovely pair of heels.

I wish I could afford to purchase this item at full price, which got me to thinking: I wonder what single item, either from the current catalog or past seasons, other JCAs would buy immediately if money were no object?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hi all,

I'll admit, I decided to pass on this skirt a while ago. I spoke w. Em about it & agreed that it looked looks a little dowdy. It seems that they had a hard time styling it on the site. Your viewing options are, white shirt (meh) or same fabric blouse. Honestly, I think the silk blouse & skirt outfit looks like a uniform for Caesar's Palace. The model certainly doesn't look enthused about her clothes.

That said, after reading other JCA contributions, esp Trish & Mrs JM, & took another look. I'll agree it does look better in the America catalogue. Still, it does seem that it requires a lot of tweaking for a good look. As it is, I don't think it would mix well with most of the other separates in this season's line.

Also, I think Alexandra's observations are apt. It does seem that they had to add that second band to "fix" problems that should have been worked out in the original design. As for me, it has rather limited utility & appeal. Most esp for a curvy petite such as myself. Hemming would be a nightmare! Hmmmm, maybe if I pulled it up over a strapless bra & created a waist with a belt? Insta summer dress? Nah, think I'll spend my $250 somewhere else.

    Happy shopping everyone!

  60. Tastymoog,
I haven't recieved mine yet either...was wondering the same thing this morning. Hmmm. Maybe we'll both be surprised when we check our mailboxes today? (fingers crossed)

    ReplyDelete
  61. tld51371 @ 9:53 AM - The georgette tank hit at about mid-hip on me. It seems a little more fitted than most of the j.crew silk tops (i.e. it has more tailoring/waist line). I'm 5'4, if that gives you any indication of how it fit height wise. I would definitely size down on this, especially if you are small chested (I'm a C and still sized down).

    ReplyDelete
  62. OT, but I recently ordered the crewcuts cotton eyelet Liya dress (currently on sale for $69.99 down from $158). I needed a wedding party dress for my toddler. But this dress was such a disappointment.

I expected it to have some shape/structure. Instead, it was just a flimsy (thin) cotton dress. Yes, the eyelet material was nice, but no way at $158!!! - and no way at $69 (maybe at $19.99). I returned it right away. They must think they can sell anything at any price!

JCrew needs to rethink its pricing strategy given the diminishing quality of its products.

    ReplyDelete
  63. O/T but: when do you think there will be an extra % off sale? Is there a pattern to how often these things come along?

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm hoping J Crew steps up to compete w/ the Banana/Gap sale, and gives us a juicy global %off sale to lure us away.

    ReplyDelete
  65. BTW, does anyone know what time the Banana/Gap sale goes live? Will it be @ midnight Pacific tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  66. @Anon - which Gap/BR sale are you referring to?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Jenny - the 30% off Friends & Family for Gap, Gap Outlet, ON, Banana & Banana Factory stores

    ReplyDelete
  68. That "sale" (aka promotion code) doesn't start until 3/12, so at most, would start at midnight tomorrow. Also, you can only use that promotion online if you got the online code.

    ReplyDelete
  69. uptown mom,

Thanks for the Crewcuts declining quality post! Wow. Double WOW! I haven't bought crewcuts in a while but EVERYTHING used to be nice when I did up until summer 2007! The 5 or so dresses my daughter had were super quality. I guess, now, Crewcuts will start to suffer and have poor quality as well as the women's items. Just makes sense. Trickle down effect....

    ReplyDelete
  70. Does anyone have the online promo code for the Friends & Family event? That would be great to have!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yesss, thank you Alexis for making this a post! Mid calf... all those pleats... the fact that my elementary school teachers wore similar skirts in the early 90s... pass!

    ReplyDelete
  72. OT--

Anyone else reading the 4th quarter report right now?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Jenn, thank you so much for your review of the georgette!

  74. This is most definitely a leave for me.

    ReplyDelete
  75. The first time I saw this skirt online I hated it -- it just looked too long and frumpy. Then I saw it on the model in the latest catalog (page 74) and it looks amazing, esp paired with the silk pleated ruffle tank. It's such a pretty combination. That being said, I have no idea how tall the model in the catalog is, but if she is 6 feet tall, that would explain a lot. Besides, it's too much to pay for a skirt IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I plan to buy this skirt when it goes on sale. I will wear it with the misty lavender jackie shell or twinset. Although I'm tall, I will likely hike it up and belt it because I think it will look nice with a bit of an empire effect.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I returned some final sale items to J.Crew via UPS and for the first time ever I was sent email that I would be getting gift cards for my refund.

I live in Canada and have never had trouble returning FS items for a full refund to my credit card in the past. None of the items said final sale on the receipt and there were no FS stickers on the packages. All of the items were returned within 60 days, closer to 30 including shipping.

No complaints really, as I will most certainly spend the gift cards and the items were on sale, although I don't believe they had the red "final sale" on checkout, but it was a bit of a surprise nonetheless.

    ReplyDelete
  78. anon @11:08 - I'm only 5'4" so I can't report on how long it will be on you, but the cherie cami works fine with my c chest. HTH

    ReplyDelete
  79. anon 5:23: Did you call J Crew and ask???

    ReplyDelete
  80. Anonymous @ 5:23pm, do you still have your email receipt? If it doesn't say "final sale" on that receipt, then the items must not have been final sale at the time you purchased them. You should contest, unless you know you're going to spend that gift card soon. I bought the pinwheel cardigan before it landed in the final sale area and then I returned it. I'm wondering if I'll have the same problem.

  82. Anon 5:26 and Alexandra, I did not call and ask, I just read the email that said "Thanks for your J.Crew order" and each email was referring to an order for a gift card with an odd amount so I put it together and figured that was the way they would handle the return. Strangely, one of the items I returned was refunded to my credit card, but the other three items were refunded in two separate gift cards. Maybe I better call and ask.

I know I'd spend the gift cards as I'm a J.Crew addict +10 years on already. But I should have a choice. Come to think of it, it may be better to get the gift card in $USD because the credit card companies always refund at a lower exchange rate than when you purchase. At least with the gift card I am getting the actual amount, which won't diminish on my next purchase.

    ReplyDelete
  83. ^ I should clarify. The credit card companies charge you an exchange rate and sometimes a small fee to make purchases in $USD. The rate is higher than the bank rate.

When you get a refund, they give you a lower exchange rate than the bank rate and also sometimes charge a small fee. The fees depend on the cards.

Regardless, it is usually a case of win-win for the credit card companies and sucks-to-be-you for the consumer.

  84. Hehe, this skirt wouldn't work on met at all - the length, the pleats - it makes me laugh just to picture myself wearing it. Would pass if it was marked down to $9.99. I think the picture used for this post is curious at best - it's an awkward pose by the model - I agree with others who said she looks like she wishes she hadn't been picked to wear this outfit.

Does anyone think a markdown is in the near future? I have a couple of items I've been eying for over a month & are still full price....

    ReplyDelete
  85. This skirt looks pretty in the catalog but agree that you would have to be tall and willowy to pull it off.

I don't like how the waist is finished either. If the waist a wide fabric waistband that sat low I think it would be a lot more flattering

    ReplyDelete
  86. UPS man just dropped off my double-serge pencil skirt in deep persimmon, the missing color to my collection. I open the box and hubby runs from the room making noise. WTF? He comes back with sunglasses on.

It is pretty darn bright. And it is gorgeous. Almost a burnt orange, but not quite totally burnt. The fit is perfect, the fabric luxurious. I love these double-serge pencil skirts and now I have them all. No signs of wear, tags still intact. A FS steal at $49.99 less 20%. I don't even mind that it too forever to arrive.

Given the color I will try to squeeze it into the rotation before the weather gets too springy and then will put it away for the fall. These are some of my favorite things from J.Crew. I wonder how long I will wear these beauties, I certainly enjoyed them this fall and winter and expect for many more to come. :D

    ReplyDelete
  87. Does anyone know a way to make shoes fit 1/2 size smaller? I bought a pair of Claudia pumps on FS and I should have SD 1/2 size. Now that size is not available so I'd like to wear the ones I bought. I've tried the pads for the ball of the feet and also the heel pads, both at the same time. The shoes are still too big. Obviously I can't wear socks. Are there any other inserts or tricks that might help?

    TIA

    ReplyDelete
  88. Anon @ 7:04pm, you could just keep checking the final sale area, I see things come and go there! You think they're all out, the item is removed from the listings.... and then a few days later it's back again!

double-serge's post makes me think of the times that I've felt that J Crews photos of various colors of garments are manipulated to make the colors look better. I ordered the cambridge cable cardigan in a couple of non-neutral colors and was taken aback when they arrived by how bright they were! Much much brighter than the photos.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Alexandra, I did think the deep persimmon was more red on the website, but knowing that persimmons are orange I expected as much IRL. It is a dark orange and it is lovely, even though bright. I would never have purchased the bronzed ochre but read posts about FFMs styling of the skirt with burgundy and it worked well for me too. I've checked out a few of her sets with the deep persimmon as well and I have already put aside pieces of my own to try. If anyone has a need for pencil skirts, you will not regret purchasing the double-serge. I would take this skirt in any color, I'm that crazy over it.

Seeing the photoshopping that goes on, I imagine colors are sometimes embellished as well. But colors online can also depend on your monitor, settings and even the lighting in the room or angle of your screen. The catalog though, should be as true-to-life as possible since they have control over the print. This blog is also very helpful with comments on colors IRL.

  90. Big ole LEAVE for me as well for all the same reasons elaborated already. I'm 5'2" and not flat so this skirt would manage to single-handedly make me look shorter, fatter, and dowdier.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Every skirt should have a proper hem to hang right, especially a $250.00 skirt.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I love the way it's in the America catalog, but I doubt it will work for my height and body type.

Plus I don't know how those pleats can stay put after sitting down for more than a few minutes.

  94. TIA,

I was ultimately able to return them, but if I couldn't I was going to double/triple up on the toe pads (Nordstrom "daisy" pads) and maybe one (cut to fit) at the heel just to take up space. Sorry I don't have a fail-safe idea!

  95. Regarding shoes too big--try the full length gel inserts-those take up a lot of room. I use them even with a ball of foot pad as well for a couple of over-sized JC shoes I guess I must have been desperate to keep.

  96. Inserts are the way to go. I've just made a size 8 Ralph Lauren pump (too cheap to pass up!) into a 7.5. In a pinch and you don't have inserts? Maxi pads in your shoes!! [Yes Slastena's blog readers, it is I - the Anon regular with the maxi pad idea!!] (:

The the Canadian JCA talking about the JC credit - yikes! I hope that doesn't happen to me as well. I sent back a whack of stuff over the last two weeks. If it happens to me I will contest though - nothing was marked FS on the invoice, and some it was spring stuff on sale...

As a last resort I guess I'd posting a bunch of discounted gift cards in the weekly exchange!!! (:

  97. double-serge, was the persimmon skirt on the model or was it brightly lit in a clothing-only photo? Because those cardigans I bought were brightly lit and it caused the colors to be more pale. I think they did that on purpose! I figured out how to tilt my laptop screen to give me what I believe is a more accurate representation of the colors, approx 7 degrees back from vertical. :) This morning I acquired a key lime cambridge cardigan in the final sale area. I'm expecting it to burn holes in my eyeballs when it arrives. :) I have a cambridge cable stockpile, I think I've got 8 cardigans and 2 v necks. I LOVE these sweaters! I hope J Crew brings them back again next fall, in some other colors.

  98. Deny, good idea about the toe pads. I have those "foot petals" pads for my sandals and they are really great for keeping the balls of my feet in place. They would probably work great for a too large shoe.

  99. I got this skirt with the tags still in it at a thrift shop, and can't believe how gorgeous it is on... I'm 5'8 and average proportions, and it's great for this season, hitting at a flattering midi- length. It's also SUPER soft and just great to dance in... I plan to wear it with a jewel toned top I am making.
