My last major purchase at J.Crew is the Chateau Parka (honestly, I got swept up in the gorgeousness of it!), so I am pretty shopped out at the moment. However, I will be taking another look around to see what other lovelies might make their way to me... ;)
Will you be taking advantage of this promotion? What item are you hoping to pick up? Please share!
tiered promo...stacking ? what does that mean ? 30 % off sale plus 30% off over $100 ? this doesn't work online. instores ???? can anyone clarify this.....
ReplyDeleteNo stacking of discounts, unfortunately. :) Fine print details, you get one or the other discount based on how much you spend.
DeleteIt means the more you spend the more you save. The discount is only 25% if you spend $100-$149 but goes up to 30% if you spend $150. Or a flat 30% if you use your J Crew card. It does not mean you get two separate discounts. Hope this helps.
Deleteon line orders from last week still not shipped/ only "released" this just irritates me to no end. get your holiday shipping out J Crew !!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see another sitewide discount. I'll be having another look around too, Alexis.
ReplyDeleteThe phone case I want is finally in stock. I'd love a 30% off deal on that.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I styled the Fair Isle sweater on the blog today.
Heather
Partial to Pink
cute sweater!
DeleteThank you, Vava!
DeleteI might actually get to use my card today! :)
ReplyDeleteChek out what's #gigiapproved, incl the golden tee. They got me to buy another graphic tee. smh
ReplyDeleteOT:
ReplyDeleteAfter posting a dismal earnings report yesterday, J.Crew CEO Mickey Drexler sat down with WWD to explain how the company went from a net income of $35.4 million to a reported loss of $607.8 million in the span of one year.
In particular, women's apparel and accessories sales have been hit hard. Drexler reasons that a widespread downturn in apparel sales across the industry was partially to blame, but he's not above accepting that the company's womenswear is doing terrible right now. "We've had a very tough year and I, along with the team, own this," Drexler says. "We saw a significant slowdown in our women's business. We own that even more. In that regard, we need to improve."
My list of what needs to be done at corporate:
Delete1. CHANGE your women's head designer.
2. Bring colors back.
3. No drop shoulders.
4. The oversized coats..too many that are ill fitting.
5. Bring back prints.
6. Stop making poly shirts.
7. Make pretty dresses with interesting cuts and designs. Not the straight sack kind.
What else can we add to this list?
Personally I am tired of "boxy fit". Give me a top or dress with some darts.
DeleteFull length pants
DeleteBasics available in store
Prints - yes, please! Go to the archives if you have to.
Non-see through tops
Full length sleeves on at least a few sweaters for fall/winter
Stop making everything super long/oversized! Bring back the perfect shirts in beautiful prints.
DeleteNo 2 Pencil Skirts in fabulous prints!
DeleteAlexis, if you've got time I think this needs its own post so that JC can see our feedback front and center. I'll start working on my list. ; )
DeleteOh yeah, this DOES deserve it's own post! There is so much they could do to improve their women's line. The Spring/Summer 2015 lineup looks pretty scary too, by the way.
DeleteMy thoughts are: (1) there's way too much inventory. Instead of doing 6 similar droopy, oversized sweaters, do *one* really nice fitting sweater and do it well; (2) Quality. People will pay for quality. No more synthetics, no more seams that fall apart. No more buttons that are cheap and crack and/or fall off; (3) Stop trying to do all. the. trends. Leave the trendy stuff to the fast fashion retailers. Zippers, and bedazzled everything is just silly. Going back to number one, if you're going to do trends, so *one* thing and do it right.
DeleteI don't know who is approving these designs, but there's so much ill, fitting and poor quality garbage. Bring back well-fitting, high-quality classic items in gorgeous colors and prints. (Also, going back to number one, you don't have to make *everything* in a print).
I agree with everything above.
DeleteBut here's the thing I find confusing. J Crew produced some really nice items this season that sold out lightning fast - the paisley shirtdress, the elephant parade shoes, the cocoon coat in the gorgeous blue color, the #2 pencil in heather chartreuse - and there are many more that I don't remember. So why aren't they taking cues from the things that are selling well (color, print, structure etc.)? The offerings of this fall seem almost willful in their defiance of what customers want to buy. Drab, cheap-looking, common. Every time I see the ugly glen plaid dress or the hideous houndstooth dress with the black side panels I want to have a stiff drink and go to bed. I never thought J Crew would stoop so low.
But maybe this is good news - have the horrendous sales numbers made them realize that they have hit bottom? I think Mickey and gang have it in them to recover and my fingers are crossed that they will.
I agree Cousy!
DeleteThey have so many items right now that *almost* work. I tried on two things today-a cute elbow sleeve-length tee with a white silk front with black vertical lines (deal breakers: it's winter, plus using cheap sheer t-shirt material for the back + adding an unnecessary obvious zipper to the back) and a cute merino sweater that's black with vertical stripes on the body and horizontal stripes on the sleeves (deal breakers: front is short, plus sides are slit up to the armpits-layering required). Gah! A little editing and a critical eye there could do wonders right now.
DeleteI really like Mickey (and the brand) and I hope he can turn this around. It's definitely time to accept that a lot of the womenswear designs aren't what people want to buy. Some of this stuff is just plain weird. Tops with sequins hanging down in front? Crop tops with ruffles around the bottom? Very strange designs on the sweaters. Drop shoulders all over the place. Tops with words on them. They're not as far off the mark on the bottoms (although I could give them advice on those too), but they need to take a whole new direction on tops, sweaters and dresses.
DeleteWhat Blake above said.... Quality. People *will* pay for quality. No more horrible synthetics, fabric that pills after one wear (or one hour in some cases!!), jeans that rip at the knees the first time you wear them, unravelling seams and so on. Quality goes down every season and I thought like 2 years ago they'd hit rock bottom. Ha!
DeleteRight on, cousy. I'm convinced that they're not looking closely at their sales on an item level - or if they are, they're not using that data to inform future designs. They can tell what sells out without going to first markdown - why not do more of that? Not the word tee shirts that get a kill price of $5 in a B&M within six weeks. We've all seen them ride out a trend way longer than necessary (ruffles, exposed zippers, too-short skirts, etc.) and they really need to put the brakes on that next year.
DeleteJC tends to get caught up in believing its own hype. Hopefully the numbers along with the reviews on their own site ('cause we all know they don't pay much attention to JCA) will help them turn it around.
About the prints… I normally am drawn to prints, but the prints J. Crew has been putting out lately have been terrible (sorry to offend, but I really dislike them). The big cabbage flowers and the 1980's nursing home couch florals, the garish orange and black prints. J. Crew used to have a more critical eye for their prints. They used to do some fabulous prints (aside from the Liberty prints, which I also usually like). It's as if the person who selected prints doesn't work there any more. Why doesn't Mickey have a focus group of real women to give thumbs up or thumbs down on the prints they're thinking of producing?
DeleteI agree with the points above definitely quality, better fabrics, silk, wool, cotton, linen etc and interesting feminine prints, as Cate said nothing garish. What I personally believe is that this trend of moving the same items to Factory in months is not helping sales. If the quality/decent fabrics is not there in Retail then people can wait a couple of months and get it at factory prices and then throw it away at the end of the season. I still believe they can do some things so well, handbags, boots, most shoes, coats and my personal love Tippis. Most, if not all of the offerings in these groups I have not even seen in my stores this year. I did visit one of my local stores at lunchtime today, since I was doing a return at Madewell and literally walked in, looked briefly and left in disgust. Like Cate and others, I love the J Crew brand and hope they can turn this around. I don't visit or buy nearly as much as I used to. I am however shopping J Crew on Ebay on a weekly basis and there I am finding older items I really love and wear.
DeleteCan I just say one of my pet peeves are silk/wool/cotton dresses line in polyester? I would pay more for a dress lined in silk because I cannot stand the feel of poly on my body, but maybe that's just me.
DeleteI just created a post about this topic. JCAs, your comments are all so spot on!!! I kept nodding my head in agreement with all the points you made. Let's hope J.Crew takes a moment to read them and incorporate them in future rollouts.
DeleteFactory store used to carry real jcrew clothes, not "factory" brand. Jcrew is going downhill fast, unless they can up the quality of almost everything they offer now. Color, quality, styling, pricing....jcrew needs to wake up
DeleteCabin Sweater and Skier Sweater. These arrived yesterday and I found the Cabin Sweater a bit less itchy than the Skier Sweater. It really doesn't matter though, because I would wear either of them with something underneath. I think the biggest problem for me is the wide body.
ReplyDeleteI wished I had sized down in both. The Cabin Sweater is sold out in Small now. The Skier Sweater has another issue, the band at the bottom fits nicely, but as a result the sweater itself 'pooches' out and looks like a built in muffin top! Not a good look, IMO.
That's exactly how the houndstooth sweater fit on me! I looked like a houndstooth pumpkin with it on. I'm glad it's not just me...
DeletePulled the trigger and ordered the Campbell wool pants in petite grey, that is sold out. Also, petite pique bib shirt, tissue turtleneck in stripe navy/cream, and a denim vest. Oy, the shopping never stops. I'm broke.
ReplyDeleteA review of the J. Crew Diamond Fair Isle Sweater in this post Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteJ Crew needs to stop making skirts and dresses so short so you can wear to work. Stop with the ugly prints and men's influence. Go back to models who are more put together and polished in style guide. Fire women's head. Stop with the poly at rediculous prices.
ReplyDeleteCould we add the pathetic quality of the cashmere J Crew now subjects us to? I have cashmere from them that is 10 years old that is still in excellent condition. I just got a casmere long sleeve tee last week that looks and feels like merino. Come on now!
ReplyDeleteCashmere quality is not the same at most stores now unfortunately. I have a GAP cashmere hoodie from 2001 that is amazing, you would never find that now except at much more expensive store. The chines have ruined the cashmere quality, plus the expectation to sell at $xx price point
DeleteUnless you want to pay $500 or so
Chateau Parka is still NOT on sale.... (and I totally didn't see the message that someone was going to let me use their 20% off- had I seen it I would have snapped it up :( ) heelsrhappinessatmacdotcom or 1811fashionistaatgmaildotcom
ReplyDeleteSO! I got the Chateau Parka in store and honored the 30% off ! with the -20$ coupon and a gift card I got it for 188ish....then I misplaced my crew card- thought it was lost, reported it lost and then found it 30 min later....that kinda day already :P
