What I personally believe is that this trend of moving the same items to Factory in months is not helping sales. If the quality/decent fabrics is not there in Retail then people can wait a couple of months and get it at factory prices and then throw it away at the end of the season. I still believe they can do some things so well, handbags, boots, most shoes, coats and my personal love Tippis. Most, if not all of the offerings in these groups I have not even seen in my stores this year. I did visit one of my local stores at lunchtime today, since I was doing a return at Madewell and literally walked in, looked briefly and left in disgust. Like Cate and others, I love the J Crew brand and hope they can turn this around. I don't visit or buy nearly as much as I used to. I am however shopping J Crew on Ebay on a weekly basis and there I am finding older items I really love and wear.JRSConiferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03267439414300795711noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-70184416237108312492014-12-05T17:48:49.167-05:002014-12-05T17:48:49.167-05:00Thank you, Vava!Thank you, Vava!Heather Carmichael (Partial to Pink)https://www.blogger.com/profile/14034364135453921638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-69229725956589675862014-12-05T15:30:54.231-05:002014-12-05T15:30:54.231-05:00J Crew needs to stop making skirts and dresses so ...J Crew needs to stop making skirts and dresses so short so you can wear to work. Crew has been putting out lately have been terrible (sorry to offend, but I really dislike them). The big cabbage flowers and the 1980's nursing home couch florals, the garish orange and black prints. J. Crew used to have a more critical eye for their prints. They used to do some fabulous prints (aside from the Liberty prints, which I also usually like). It's as if the person who selected prints doesn't work there any more. Why doesn't Mickey have a focus group of real women to give thumbs up or thumbs down on the prints they're thinking of producing? catehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17121234545386465542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-39666831306314941462014-12-05T15:24:28.972-05:002014-12-05T15:24:28.972-05:00Right on, cousy. They can tell what sells out without going to first markdown - why not do more of that? Not the word tee shirts that get a kill price of $5 in a B&M within six weeks. We've all seen them ride out a trend way longer than necessary (ruffles, exposed zippers, too-short skirts, etc.) and they really need to put the brakes on that next year.

JC tends to get caught up in believing its own hype. Hopefully the numbers along with the reviews on their own site ('cause we all know they don't pay much attention to JCA) will help them turn it around. silver_lininghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11145331294538875917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-1470067393211343882014-12-05T15:20:13.309-05:002014-12-05T15:20:13.309-05:00What Blake above said.... No more horrible synthetics, fabric that pills after one wear (or one hour in some cases!!), jeans that rip at the knees the first time you wear them, unravelling seams and so on. It's definitely time to accept that a lot of the womenswear designs aren't what people want to buy. Some of this stuff is just plain weird. Tops with sequins hanging down in front? Crop tops with ruffles around the bottom? Very strange designs on the sweaters. Drop shoulders all over the place. Tops with words on them. They're not as far off the mark on the bottoms (although I could give them advice on those too), but they need to take a whole new direction on tops, sweaters and dresses. catehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17121234545386465542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-64484050174647785462014-12-05T15:13:27.393-05:002014-12-05T15:13:27.393-05:00They have so many items right now that *almost* wo...They have so many items right now that *almost* work. I tried on two things today-a cute elbow sleeve-length tee with a white silk front with black vertical lines (deal breakers: it's winter, plus using cheap sheer t-shirt material for the back + adding an unnecessary obvious zipper to the back) and a cute merino sweater that's black with vertical stripes on the body and horizontal stripes on the sleeves (deal breakers: front is short, plus sides are slit up to the armpits-layering required). Gah! A little editing and a critical eye there could do wonders right now.Wendyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07923395472788182062noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-84292676466314962692014-12-05T15:10:13.569-05:002014-12-05T15:10:13.569-05:00I agree Cousy!I agree Cousy!JSRhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00019374356359095038noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-16765740479095873722014-12-05T15:00:07.717-05:002014-12-05T15:00:07.717-05:00I agree with everything above.
But here's t...I agree with everything above.

But here's the thing I find confusing. J Crew produced some really nice items this season that sold out lightning fast - the paisley shirtdress, the elephant parade shoes, the cocoon coat in the gorgeous blue color, the #2 pencil in heather chartreuse - and there are many more that I don't remember. So why aren't they taking cues from the things that are selling well (color, print, structure etc.)? The offerings of this fall seem almost willful in their defiance of what customers want to buy. Drab, cheap-looking, common. Every time I see the ugly glen plaid dress or the hideous houndstooth dress with the black side panels I want to have a stiff drink and go to bed. I never thought J Crew would stoop so low.

But maybe this is good news - have the horrendous sales numbers made them realize that they have hit bottom? I think Mickey and gang have it in them to recover and my fingers are crossed that they will.cousyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03321886213526230764noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1317882250647868056.post-62895841740817811912014-12-05T14:07:34.558-05:002014-12-05T14:07:34.558-05:00My thoughts are: (1) there's way too much inve...My thoughts are: (1) there's way too much inventory.
