The email features the Tippi Sweater (Item 46725; $69.50), described as
The sweater you'll wear with everything—our classically styled crewneck sweater spun in soft merino wool. (This is one piece you can justify owning in more than just one color.) In a 14-gauge knit. Three-quarter sleeves. Hits at hip. Import. Hand wash.I was excited about this sweater when it first came out! I know, a simple sweater... how boring. But I adore the delicious shades it comes in. What I am not feeling, that it is hand wash. Oh, whatever happened to machine washable sweaters?!?
J.Crew is also offering free shipping on orders of $175+ with code SHIP175. This offer expires Wednesday, August 17, 2011.
What are your thoughts on the Tippi Sweater? Have you tried on or own it? Does your local brick & mortar store carry this sweater? If so, please share.
I ordered a purple Tippi sweater in my normal size and almost returned it. It is pretty casual as it is not fitted (not fully-fashioned) well. It is something I would wear on a Friday with a scarf. Nice fabric and color, though. You might consider ordering two sizes to try to get a more fitted look.
ReplyDeleteI ordered this sweater when I saw that it came in bright dahlia (I can't resist that color). It's a nice simple sweater and it fit tts for me. This isn't a thick sweater, so it's suitable for wearing now, if it's not 100+ degrees outside.
ReplyDeleteI thought the neckline on this was different. I thought it came up just a tad higher, almost like a mockneck. I tried it on and it seems to pretty much be a crewneck. Other than that small disappointment, the colors are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteColors are beautiful but the styling is just too basic for me. I will be passing...not a fan of crewneck sweaters at this point in my life.
ReplyDelete(original) Genny, and then add handwash on top of it? I'll go to Old Navy for machine wash & a v-neck at 1/3 the price. They have great colors for their first fall offerings.
ReplyDeleteI saw this sweater in the store. I like it but not love it. So, I plan on waiting until it goes on sale and I'll purchase the vibrant flame, bright dahlia and the mustard. It is suitable for the weather in Florida for me to wear.
ReplyDeleteI have this in heather viridian green and love it! I'm really glad it's a 3/4 sleeve since I usually have to roll up the cuff on most of J. Crew's sweaters.
ReplyDeleteI'm not crazy about crewnecks, especially in wool. Maybe I'll try the cardi but some reviews were saying it was snag-prone so I'll likely just pass.
ReplyDeletegigiofca,
ReplyDeleteI am so with you!--see you at Old Navy:)or Land's End. They have nice basic sweaters for much less and good colors as well.
Also, I prefer long sleeves as I get cold in the fall/winter so the 3/4 sleeves are a deal breaker in a wool sweater.
xoxo,
I did read a couple of reviews saying it snagged easily. I know all sweaters can snag with wear but they shouldn't look that way sitting in stores!
The style screams "basic," but the 3/4 sleeves and hand wash limit its versatility for me. Lovely colors, but not on my list this fall.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks cute and love the colors. However, I won't be buying it fp and will wait since I wouldn't be able to wear merino wool until October at the earliest.
ReplyDeletePhotos of this sweater in the red and marled camel on my blog (2nd and 3rd posts down). Love it!

ReplyDeleteI have liked this one since it debuted online and plan to purchase it in a few colors...now just hoping I'm not disappointed with it once I see it IRL.
ReplyDeleteI have it in bright dahlia. I had a 20% off code, otherwise not sure I would have bought it. I agree that it's slightly oversized and not very distinctive in its style. I needed another casual, weekend-y sweater and it's good for that.
ReplyDeleteI was pretty disappointed by this sweater. I ordered it in grey to replace a old favorite 3/4 sleeve grey sweater. The color was beautiful, but it was not flattering other than that. It fit large and blousy (not in a good way) and had a very high crew neck. And while I wanted it for a basic item in my wardrobe, it had absolutely no detail or character. t looked very "grandma," which would be fine, except I'm 25 :(
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be too concerned about needing to hand wash. Just place the sweater in a large mesh delicates bag (sold at Bed, Bath & Beyond and similar stores). Use cold water with Woolite and your machine's delicate cycle setting. Then reshape and lay flat to dry. I use this method with all my J.Crew cashmere ("dry clean only") and they turn out beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI love the tippi sweater and would like at least one. :) But, it won't be cool enough to wear it until late November, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a promo or sale before then (also watching inventory just in case I have to get it fp). I do like it sized down better than my normal size, which has become a regular thing for me at JC recently.
ReplyDeleteSimple items in amazing colors always draw my eye (and my wallet), and they're what I missed about "Old School" JC. For those reasons, I was really glad to see the Tippi.
ReplyDeleteI know that some aren't a fan of the 3/4 sleeve, but I love them. I'm visiting a B&M on Thursday, so I hope I get to see it in person. Assuming the quality looks decent, I'll pick up the grape and mustard--and would consider the dahlia and flame at a markdown.
i LOVE LOVE LOVE this sweater! its scrumptiously soft, and the colors are so saturated. I've only purchased it in the grape color, but I would honestly buy every color, its perfect for cool nights now, and brisk days in the fall!
ReplyDeleteThat being said the fit is slightly larger, but I have this problem all the time, as i have fairly broad shoulder and a smallish mid section, so anything with a sleeve is oversized in the tummy area on me. Oh well.
I LOVE this sweater in the leopard print - I agree on the sizing.... if in between, go down!

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this sweater and I bought it in the vibrant flame color as well as the viridian green. It is a perfect sweater to wear with trousers or pencil skirts. I love the shortened sleeve. I will likely get a couple more!
ReplyDeleteI agree with many of you all on this sweater. I don't prefer clothes that can't be machine wash regularly or dry cleaned, but I might just get this one anyway (and take the advice about washing on gentle in a mesh bag). The colors are so pretty, and it seems like a versatile sweater. I am not grandmother age, but I do like crewnecks. The 3/4 sleeve is not terribly appealing for winter, but I think it might work okay for me for Fall. I will likely wait until the weather is more Fall-ish where I am if I do get it.
ReplyDeleteOk, received mine today and I really like this sweater. The saturated colors are lovely and I like the drape and simplicity. It's a nice option for under a blazer, and will pair nicely with a pencil skirt and a pretty necklace. I also tried the leopard and have decided I like it, even though it's a bit out of my comfort zone. I'll post pics in the next couple of days. I'm hoping the colors I like make it to sale, as I just refuse to pay FP anymore.
ReplyDeletemeh, i wait for it to go on sale. it runs huge (too freakin' long on us shorties) and is so thin.
ReplyDeletelol crewnecks are for grandma's? mkay.
