J.Crew's Fall Sale {minus final!} is Here

"Thanks!" to many of you, including K Mel & Cass (in this post), DinDin, Nichi, & Em (in this post), as well as Rosa, Dina, & Kathy, who let us know about an update to JCrew.com.

J.Crew updated the image in their sale section online (click here). What's not on the image– the words "final sale" anywhere. Could it be true? No final sale? {wahoo!} They also updated the section early this morning, with several new-to-sale and sale items reduced in price.

Also, "thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who shared the email (shown above) that J.Crew sent this morning. The email announces that the Fall Sale (with prices up to 30% off) is not only happening online, but in brick & mortar (B&M) stores as well.

Are you planning to check out J.Crew's Final Sale section? Are there any items you are suprised to see on sale? Will you get any Summer sale items, or hold out for the new Fall arrivals? :)

  1. I ordered a pair of the foldover yoga pants this morning and the red final sale wording was still under the item description. Wonder if the wording was left on by mistake or if some things are still FS and others not??

  2. I am really confused as to why I keep hearing the SA's say there will be fewer sales and overall less quantities of these great items to sell...but the new items keep going on sale a few weeks later! I just saw the silk posey top for $49! This is super frustrating.

  3. Elizabeth - so is it final sale? Not final sale? AGH, J.Crew is confusing sometimes!

  4. Not about the sale, but the schoolboy blazer comes in new colors! I wanted a tall butterscotch and its gone, though :(

  5. I just got a free shipping code with any order on the catalog I received yesterday, so I'm gonna use it on the fall sale. Most likely on tees to layer under sweaters as it's freezing here in VA!

  6. **Amy** - it's still avail in petite, if that helps. I often get petite in the next size up, if I can't find something in regular.

  7. Cloggsy - Unfortunately, I need a 4T

  8. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I am hoping someone may have some insight! I bought the Carlin wool coat w/thinsulate last week, and I'm not crazy about the fit. I'm larger on top than the bottom, and I feel like it makes me look too bulky- maybe its the button placement. I was going to exchange it for something else, but I wasn't sure if the most recent roll-out is it for outwear this winter. Does anyone know if there is typically new stuff in outerwear closer to the holidays?

Also if anyone has any recommendations for a warm coat to wear in the blustery northeast, I would greatly appreciate it. :)

  10. Did anyone get a free shipping code they aren't planning on using? There are a few things I'd like to order but I hate to spend so much on shipping! If so, please email me at mahoney2007 at gmail dot com. Thanks!

  11. i grabbed a few $9.99 tees (the slub pocket tee and swirling flowers tee). For only $10 each they're a steal! Also got the sparkling rose tee that I was eyeing for some time. None of them were marked final sale.

  12. Maya, hopefully someone will back me up on this, but yes, I do believe more coats/jackets are coming in the next couple of roll-outs.

  13. Complete OT, but could anyone send me Mickey's or his assistant's email address? I have an issue with the customer service and I would like to send him a note. Thank you!

  14. There are a few things I'm thinking of getting. Anyone have the Knox sweater jacket? $99 seems like a lot to pay, but I'm worried that it will sell out in my size.

  15. I am in DIRE need of a new winter coat; does anyone have any insight on when they start putting some on sale?

    Thank you!

  16. It was definitely a pleasant surprise to go on the website early this morning and see that Final Sale is FINALLY over, at least for now anyways. :)

  17. About winter coats: Eddie Bauer is having a down sale. They have some coat length and city style down if you are interested in an alternative to wool and don't need something really dressy. Petite and tall sizes also available.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Maya: I think the consensus is that the stadium cloth coats are the warmest coats J.Crew offers. I have one from last year, and I agree that it is very warm (I also live in the Northeast). I liked it so much that I bought the stadium cloth boulevard trench (item 19648) in gray a little earlier than I had planned, because the quantities in my size are getting low. The Friday coat also looks cute; I would give either one a try. HTH!

P.S. I also tried the Winnie coat (item 16729), but found it waaaaay too swingy/boxy.

  19. Thanks SE Mom, but I am looking for a dressy/wool coat! I already invested in my floor lenth parka from LL Bean last winter! :)

  20. yay! for no more final sale (at least for now :)

  21. Very mad. JCrew just marked the price of the Velvet Eden blazer in the dusty blossom back up to $148 (Was $118 for several weeks) The 2new colors are now on sale though!

  22. After being underwhelmed at the sale offerings, I went over to AnnTaylor.com to see what was going on. AT has 30% off all FP blouses and sweaters, 40% off some FP pants, plus free shipping over $150 (no code needed), plus a 30% off $200 code. I got $365 worth of FP stuff for $162. Sorry J.Crew :P

Also - little known fact - if you have an AT or Loft card and you call 1 800 DIAL ANN, even from home, they will do a we will find it search on anything and ship your item to you from a store for free. You can apply any coupon code you want as well! I still love me some Crew, but this is a really nice perk :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Lilac Cupcake,
Thanks. I am going to the AT site now:) Wonderful. I cannot stand to pay shipping and I won't. There are only two items I want and the total is only about $50 so not worth JCrew's high shipping. Will check out AT:) Thanks again. Have a good day.

  24. I too am a little confused. When I order 4-5 things from the 'final sale', in the email confirmation of my order, only a FEW of the items have the red text under them saying "This item is Final Sale, no exchanges or returns." And when I receive my package, only a couple items have the "Final Sale" stickers on the bags. (All the prices end in .99, though.)
Does this mean that some items are returnable? Why aren't they consistent with the labeling/invoicing, I wonder? Does anyone else have this issue?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ok, I've just perused the offerings, and I'm not seeing much new at all. What am I missing? I thought Fall Sale would mean more colors of the cords on sale, more thicker sweaters and/or more colors in the cashmere offerings, etc. But there's nothing really grabbing me here.

    ReplyDelete
  26. On Monday, I purchased a couple of new camis and a tie neck silk blouse from Ann Taylor. I also ordered the Miranda kitten heel which is gorgeous and will suit all my holiday dress up needs for shoes. Most of the shirts were around $40-$45 with all the discounts. The shoes were still expensive, but have the wow factor that J Crew's have been missing lately for me.

    ReplyDelete
  27. OT, but has anyone noticed the crewcut ties in the outlets lately? I need picture clothing for DS and was wondering if someone could make a note of what they have.

    Thanks!

  29. I too ordered a bunch of new tops and a skirt from AT yesterday due to all the promos plus the extra 30% off $200 code. Plus, they actually carry everything in my size. :)

Am kind of disappointed by the supposed fall sale at JC when the sale section barely has 400 items in it and most of it is still summer leftovers.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yay for no final sale! :)

However, I've noticed it's been at least two weeks since the sale section has had any substanial increases in numbers. Where are the 800-1000+ items available updates? This morning's update getting us to 400+ items was sadly exciting!

Anyone else think there is a strategy / reason as to why we haven't seen the sale number increase to "normal" levels?

For example, the Carina heels were available in just about every size two weeks ago on sale (I was stalking for my unavailable size to show up) - then w/in a day they were ALL GONE. Mystery!

  31. I'm kind of bummed, my reorder of the pointelle cardi got cancelled. I ordered it on FRIDAY and they're just getting around to this today. I'm especially annoyed since I'd just broken my self-imposed rule of not placing a new order if I'm waiting on a current order this morning. I caved to buy the ruffle neck dress and a bunch of tees that went on sale or were further reduced. Frankly, it wasn't anything that I was in dire need of, and I definitely wouldn't have ordered more JC if I'd known about the cancellation. Luckily there's no FS marked on any of what I bought today (I didn't order the yoga pants since they were still marked.) I don't know why it's taking so long for them to get the order out to me anyway, other times I've ordered on Friday mornings I get the package by Wed. or Thurs. of the next week.

  32. CheesyGoodness,
So sorry to hear that about your cancelled item. Been there and it sucks rocks.

  33. I'm questioning the disappearance of the Butterscotch Schoolboy Blazer. I had nine in my cart before the latest rollout. Then the cart cleared as it does during the update, and the Butterscotch disappeared. I didn't check in petites but have been waiting for it to appear and I thought it would go on sale around now. It's not the highest on my list of wants but I'm wondering now.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Laura: I noticed that too Re: missing butterscotch school boy blazer missing from the website. I wanted to get it with the 20% off sale. It's also priced higher @ $198 in the B&M vs. website price of $178.

    ReplyDelete
  35. My Lizza jacket which I bought on final sale a week or so ago is still listed under this new sale, so as other posters have mentioned, it must be a mixed bag of sale and final sale. Be careful!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I ordered the Cossette Mary Jane Peep toes in whisper pink for $79.99. I'm wearing the glazed pecan today that I purchased during 20% off/FS, and I love them, they are comfy and the color is fab!

Like Genny, I can't believe the Eden blazer in dusty blossom and iris are back up to $148! I picked up the iris during the promo period for $94.40.

Like others, I also picked up quite a bit over at AT, with the 30% off tops/sweaters and extra coupon, plus free shipping. I got $495 worth of stuff for $265.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Their sale section is always the same:

-usually a good selection of sweaters (like I need any more of those...)
-POOR accessory selection (things I need most)
-POOR bag selection (5-6 styles of usually weird colors that I wouldn't put in my closet even if they were free b/c they'd be only collecting dust)

In this case, "fall" sale vs "final" sale is just semantics to me since they haven't updated the section. Maybe they keep the sale selection limited to push FP merchandise sales?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hi all,

    I'm with my fellow JCAs...

Glad the FS is gone (hopefully).
Not impressed with the selection (someday my pencil skirt will go on sale :}).
Wishing there was either a further discount or good shipping code.

That said, I think the INSIDER code from the Manhattan sweepstakes is still good.

    HTH,

    Heather:D

I so love this top, and I can't find it anywhere :(

  40. Thanks lilac cupcake! I've been bummed about missing their perfect leather flat in the nude color but hopefully they can find it in a store!

  41. Not understanding what this "fall sale" means either. Besides the silk posy cami and a few other items, there isn't anything new in the sale section and the selection is very poor. People must be buying though because the numbers keep going down. I miss those big sale updates with a lot of popbacks! Where are they?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I went to my B&M this morning and they just had a bunch of sweaters and shirts on the sale section, the only thing that caught my eye and I bought was the silk tiered cami for $49.99.
Cheesy Goodnes- So sorry to hear about your order cancelled, they should at least give you Free shipping in your next order to make it up to you.

  43. Slim sale pickins! I'm not really tempted. There's a lot at Anthro that's making my trigger finger twitchy these days!

  44. Hi, all-- if anyone is considering attaching the floral fan placket perfect shirt to their sale order, this is my two cents (or, $79.50):

The shirt came, and they weren't kidding about it being inspired by old wallpaper-- the pattern is a dense floral, with the flowers being in light blue (which you can't see as well on the website) and off-white/cream. The collar is slightly ruffled and the shirt fits true-to-size. It's 100% cotton, very soft, and without the silky sheen previous mentioned on the "tiny buds" perfect shirt. Here is a tip: the placket to my shirt was sewn shut at intervals by black thread, so that at first I thought I had a defective shirt because the buttons underneath the placket were really hard to get to. You have to cut them. I tried to fluff up the placket but it looked really flat and weird, like a ribbon of fabric on the front of the shirt. I'm returning the shirt; it may be good to buy on sale but I didn't love it and the print made me look older.

  45. First, even though this is the wrong post, I wanted to send a huge THANK YOU to all the kind JCAs who helped me find the goodies I was looking for in last week's seek/find post. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! :)

Like everyone else, underwhelmed at the sale section. I do wish I had been quicker on the perfect herringbone shirt which apparently went down to $19.99 (got the old "sorry so popular, blah blah blah"

Does anyone have the Linen Antonia dress from last late summer? Should I stay TTS or go down? I vaguely remember trying it on, but... (It's ebay item number 230385781863)

    Thanks again, so much, JCAs!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Mommydearest: Is the herringbone shirt an online only item? I don't recall seeing it available in stores.

As for the Antonia dress, I would definitely size down, it runs bigger. Also, you should check if there are any outlet stores in your area that are carrying it. I bought mine in July for about $35.00 at an outlet and it didn't have the diamonds on the tag so it was actually the retail version.

  47. Nabbed a $9.99 swirling flowers tee and poplin cargos for $14.99...not a fabulous selection but some stuff for our upcoming holiday is nice...

I know that in 4 days we'll see an "Extra 20% Off"...I just know it!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Michelle,
The herringbone shirt was in-store also. It was a herringbone print, not woven. I know it came in purple and I can't remember what other color. It had a little ruffle at the top part near the placket. The style is 17373 and color code is WRI. I found one at a B&M and it's $19.99 there too! Yeah!:)

Thanks for the heads-up about the Antonia. I really like that print and did manage to score the capris this summer. I will call around to the outlets and see if there's anything to be found.... Can I just ask a clarifying question: you meant I should go down a size from normal, right? Thanks so much for the feedback!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Mommydearest,

Thanks for the info, I called my local store and unfortunately they don't have it :(

Yes, I would size down in the Antonia if possible. I have the dress is a size 0 and I am usually a 0/2. It fit well, but was pretty long (I'm 5'2'') so I also had a tailor shorten it. Hope this helps.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I received my latest J Crew order today. I order DS (5) and me both some things.

I purchased the black floral perfect shirt. It is pretty and the floral pattern has both some ivory and grey in it. The shirt fits well and I love the collar. I am a bit on the fence about it as it has bits of loose thread everywhere. For nearly $80, you would think they could clip the loose threads.

I also purchased a marzipan cardi in black. I sized up after calling for measurements. This fits much like the ocelot cardi and the aqua cardi with the bow. It is a tiny bit big in the body, but a small would be very tight in the sleeves and a little skimpy elsewhere. I don't think the band at the bottom is an issue and the sweater hangs well. Still, it loses out of a better made (and better priced) black Ann Taylor merino cardi I purchased last week. I may exchange it for a color and give it a second try.

I ordered a petite in the perfect pencil skirt in black. I am 5'4" and it is just above my knee. I love this skirt and will definely be keeping it.

I ordered a child's 4/5 in tops and 5 in pants for DS. He is only 37 pounds and 44 inches, so he is challenging to dress. The dress pants and jeans I ordered fit well, but the shirts are all over the place. I put two short sleeve tees in my return pile without even trying them as they were huge and shapeless. Some of the others were very trim and will do very nicely. I was annoyed that the "heather gunmetal" merino v-neck is absolutely olive and not grey at all. Still, I ordered two different merino sweaters and am very impressed with the quality.

  51. OT - Does anybody know if the Silk Evening Primrose Top is ALL gone? Can't find it on the page anymore *sob*

  52. OT but some newer things I recently bought...

Winnie Coat in the yellow color. Love it! Got my usual coat size of 6. It is swingy but not overly so, IMO.

Icon trench in black. I love the color, and it fits great. Probably could have sized up for a better fit in the bust, but a 6 works. If you have a large chest, you should definitely size up.

Pixie pants in size 4, my normal JCrew pants/skirt size. Could DEFINITELY have sized up, but since I will only wear them with long sweaters and stuff, it works. They say "dry clean only", what a joke! I washed them and hung them dry and they turned out great!

Blushed tweed Collier jacket: very cute. Got a 6. I take a 4 in, for example, Astrid, but 6 in, for example, ecole. So it is a bit more fitted than I expected. Not sure I want to keep it though, if anyone is interested in purchasing it in a size 6, e-mail me (emilyeeg@gmail.com). I'll sell for $240 shipped. As you can see I bought way too much lately!!

I tried on, but didn't buy, lady day coat in size 8 tall. I was shocked it fit. Runs soooo small! So, beware!

I will not be buying anything from the fall sale. Don't need anything else!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I lost a bit of weight after my wedding, and so I really don't have any pants to wear anymore. I work in a more relaxed environment (okay I actually do work in a formal place, but my coworkers and I just ignore the dress code). Anyway, I ordered the Minnie Pants and got them today. I really have no words. They were just ... unspeakably ugly on me. I have a pretty big butt (hey I am Latin!) so that's probably why, but seriously, yuck!

Anyway, I am desperate for a pair of relatively inexpensive pants and the J Crew sale section has NOTHING even approaching my size (4-6). I love the J Crew Favorite Fit Super 120s, but I was hoping to pay only about 70ish at most.

    Anything available in the stores?

    Any ideas?

  54. Oh happy day...after visiting with my parentals this weekend and Mon & Tues, I came back online to JCA at the ungodly hour of 8 am (by which time I was seated at my desk, LOL) and found this thread ... I promptly motored over to jcrew.com and stocked up on the open crewneck painter tees I'm loving lately. I think I bought 7 or 8 of them! At $9.99 I could not resist, they fit me in a very flattering way.

I will be returning one I bought last week in the 'Mars' shade though, as I paid $19.99 for it and the color is a muddy burnt orange as I'd feared. :-/ Happily it was not final sale, but the gray one I bought was ... no hopes for a price adjustment on that, is there?

Also picked up a lovely dainty gold beaded necklace, may have also been $9.99, or maybe $19.99... very cute and I'm happy for the price.

And yet AGAIN (hello Mickey, are you listening?) I'd have bought more if not for $12.50 in shipping + $8+ in tax. I'd had the swirling flowers tee in my cart and then let it go. I suppose we will see those start flooding eBay soon at like $39.99 a pop .... sold out my arse! They sold out because the resellers bought up all the dead stock! LOL. ;-)

  55. I just wanted to share a fabulous experience I had with a CS agent via the VIP phone line.

Earlier today, I received the vintage cord pencil skirt - love it! Buuuut, I noticed even earlier today that they now have the skirt in Petites, which they didn't have when I first placed my order with 20% off. When I called customer service earlier, the gal mentioned that there was a 2" difference (it's actually 20.5" and 22.5" inches in length) and she suggested that I just get it altered in-store in order to keep the promotional price.

But it occurred to me that maybe the 20% promotional price was the same as "sale" (in truth, it is not), so I wouldn't be able to get the skirt altered for free with my JC card after all. I called the VIP phone line to confirm this. Not only did the CS agent confirm that I could get the skirt altered, he went one better and said, "Why don't I save you the trouble and offer to exchange the one you have for the petite version."

I explained that I was apprehensive because 1. I didn't know the specific measurements between the regular and petite versions 2. I didn't want to lose my 20% promotional discount 3. I was one of the free shipping people and didn't want to have to pay for shipping. (I know, I know, I'm cheap...)

He painstakingly went through the measurements of both versions of the skirt. Then he said he would not only honor the 20% discount and free shipping for this replacement petite version of the skirt, but he would allow me to add *anything* else I wanted to to the order for the same 20% discount and free shipping! Amazing! I only ordered a couple of other things, but this was champion "up-selling" at it's best. Fantastic service and I really felt like a valued JC client....

I also have to give him kudos for being incredibly patient on the phone while I was appeasing to sick kids on my end. WTG, JC!
