Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Review of the drapey shirtdress on Gigi's Gone Shopping. It's SHOPNOW eligible. I'm even more partial to online shopping, but I might visit a store this weekend.

    2. I like that shirt dress. For my shape and long torso, I'd belt it. I've pretty much given up on dresses but a piece like that is really versatile and can be dressed up or down. Love it with the sandals. I wonder why the chest pockets though? They don't really make much sense. Putting anything in there wouldn't be flattering.

      Delete
    3. Suz Has - I agree the chest pockets are definitely a design element and not for function. There was a shirt released in 2010 or so that had large pockets just like this dress. I think it was a turnoff because the top went to a really low price.

    1. If it is the same one from back in the fall, I found it very small...I also bought it on a great sale, but, it didn't seem worth it to me. I returned it.
      Quality-wise it is fine.

    3. I haven't had any luck catching them, Suz. What time zone are you in? I'm in Montana now, and just don't catch the morning updates as frequently as I did when I lived on the east coast, unfortunately. I'd love to snag them at the sale price plus extra % off though. What time in the morning have you seen them popback?

    4. I am in Ohio and have seen them several times this week as well Melissa. If it is any help, I am in the Eastern timezone and usually see them when I check the sale updates around 6 a.m.

    1. Thanks for sharing @wellfedfred. I have picked relied on Anthro for interesting dresses/tops to balance all my JCrew stuff - and I have to admit they are missing the mark this year, at least for me. The one tunic I got in the fall was great until I hand washed cold as per instructions and it shrunk. Looking forward to pulling out previous favorites for spring/summer. Hoping they can turn things around!

  7. Popped by yesterday, so probably not going this weekend. Some new additions to the sale racks caught my eye, especially the pleated pleather mini which came home with me. The best bit is that the educator discount is back, Canadian JCAs!! Apparently the policy was changed last month so we can once again apply it to sale items *happy dance*

    1. Very happy about this too! Still not sure if we can use it on a promo item (ie if a tee is 25% off) though.

      Delete
    2. Jan, don't know on that one either - have only used it on the sale items and it was applied even when the sale was an extra % off. Crew hasn't done that in over a year. Wonder if the policy has reverted - used to be able to apply the discount to everything except global (store-wide) promos. Interestingly, Factory never stopped applying the discount, it was only retail that limited it to full-price items.

  8. LOVE!

Oh my gosh, I just received my order of the chateau trench coats, and I adore them! I was prompted to order because I was in Ann Taylor last week and saw the bonded sleeve topper in orange, which is very lovely and was positively reviewed by a couple of JCAs. But, it didn't have a hood, and was about the same price point as the JC chateau trench. I recalled reading online reviews that the hood of the chateau trench is great, so that clinched it for me. I ended up ordering both colors, the barley and sunset, half hoping that they would not be as great as I was expecting and I would return at least one. (Coats take up a lot of room.) But I think I am going to have to keep both, as there are so many great things about this coat:

    (1) love the swing line. LOVE it! It is so darn cute. If I wanted a work trench, the AT is definitely more professional, but I am a SAHM and already have the icon trench, so a cuter, more casual trench will get much more wear.

    (2) love the colors. The sunset is gorgeous, a great orange, color like JC used to do color. But, limited in that orange really doesn't go with everything. I wanted, badly, to not like the barley enough to keep, but it is a great neutral khaki, neither warm nor cool; "barley" describes it perfectly.

    (3) love the lining. Gingham lining. I ordered a size 4, and I am only 5'2" so the sleeves will need to be rolled up. Which is great, because then the gingham shows.

    (4) LOVE the hood. I have a big round head. When I was a skinny kid, I literally looked like a lollipop. My hat size is bigger than my 6'3" husband's. Hoods never fit me. BUT THIS ONE DOES! It's so great, and stays up, and will definitely protect from rain.

    (5) love the price! At regular price, this coat is $198, which IMO is very reasonable. With the current 25% off promo, it's $150. I buy almost nothing at JC that is regular price, or regular price + promo, because I know it's going to go on sale and I have enough JC that everything now just seems like another iteration. This coat is different from anything I have, and totally worth the regular + promo price. I highly recommend it to anyone on the fence -- it has been selling really well and only limited sizes are left, and you can always return it.

    * BUT, it does run small. I nearly always wear a 2 or P4 in JC coats, with the lone exception of the icon trench, in which I took a 4. Reading reviews that the arms run small, and knowing that I have broad (swimmer) shoulders, I ordered a size 4 and the coats are not one smidge large. If available, I probably would have ordered the P6, because the arms would have been shorter, but actually, I like the long arms (see 3. above).

    5. AudreyS, your review single-handedly convinced me to try this coat on! I had tried the wool one this past season but it just wasn't working for me, but I tried this one in the barley color (Regular) and I liked it more than I thought I would. Planning to order in Petite. Thanks for the excellent review!! It's so nice when you find something that you love all the way through, isn't it? I hope you keep both colors!!

  9. Was @ the mall, so stopped in. Ordered ruffle sleeve top (F0270) that was shown during NYFW (25% off + educator). VPS recommended I size down, so will see if it works. I asked VPS if 30% off sale was final sale & she said yes. I explained that final sale was 50% off online and she said store would honor. Woot woot!
Slightly OT, I couldn't make JC's seaside solid color linen pants from last year work with the fit; exception was iridescent sequin (Love). So, I was on the hunt since I needed a casual pant in both navy and white. Was able to find a good substitute in Vince with their cargo linen pants @ Last Call Outlet for almost 80% off (don't recommend paying full price for Vince). Highly recommend them for a casual pant. If you're near a LC, they have 50% off clearance & 30% off most everything (35% off if you have NM card). In general, Vince pants fit me well, so they've been a good personal choice & happy with the quality & wear.

  10. I visited the store at Green Hills, Nashville, the store was a mess, hardly any sale section and unfriendly sales associates. Left empty handed. Clearance store was a win. I needed a new white button up boy shirt and a new navy Jackie cardigan. I found both there. White shirt was $5.00 and the cardi was $18.00. I found a pair of the navy oxfords with the tassels at the end of the laces, so cute. I wanted them in the fall but so glad I waited. Also got a pair of bright blue patio pants, 2 necklaces and a pair of earrings. The necklaces may be samples only as I have not ever seen them.

    1. Gigi, I had a similar style Calvin Klein cape (but it Was hooded and a slightly shinier fabric, double breasted with gold buttons) that I sold recently (last month). 15. Received my order:

Hits: French Blue linen pants - LOVE, TTS, wide leg pant.

Misses: Stripe summerweight sweater. This sweater is not 100% cotton, it s a poly blend. While I love the colors, poly in the summer doesn't work for me. Plus, at this price, I will wait for sale.
Midi-Skirt in ornate lace, navy - TTS, the poly again kills it for me. The material just feels weird.. hard to explain. Too bad.. great print, hate the fabric.

    2. My FB linen pants just shipped - is the color as lavender as it looks?

      Delete
    3. Hi,
Yes, they are a lavender blue.... not a light/tiffany at all. Still a very nice Crew color. What I love about Crew! Fit is tts to big. I took my usual size and they are a great wide leg fit for the summer.

      Delete
    4. We don't have the navy version of that skirt in-store here, but I take it the material is the same as the one for the dress version -- if it is, I found it (the dress' fabric) weird in texture too, which I described in another post as reminding me of tissue paper used in arts and crafts. Disappointing, as the skirt looks beautiful in the photograph! I'm not sure why the non-lace parts required polyester for that style at all. For what they seemed to be aiming for, a cotton-linen blend would make more sense, especially for the summer.

      Delete
    5. Because J. Crew uses cheap, crappy fabrics and thinks customers won't notice, but of course we notice. Then the items end up 75 - 80% off and people *still* won't buy them. And they end up losing far more money than if they had just used more expensive fabric and had a smaller profit margin. It's so utterly infuriating. There's like, literally one person that's going to buy that skirt in that weird fabric. Where thousands and thousands would have purchased if it was a nice, airy, yet substantial cotton. So so so shortsighted.

  16. I can't believe I totally missed the flats with the pom poms around the ankle....how did those sneak by me? I went to j.crew to make some exchanges and see if those New Balances with the cracked silver metallic and herringbone flannel came in a 9 as the 8.5 were a bit snug and my toe was only 1/2 a thump from the tip. The SA in Reston, was great and looked to see if area stores had them and found some at Georgetown and held them for me. So then I went to into Georgetown which was a mad house! but found another two great SA's who found them for me and the other who very nicely took them back when I realized they were too long and wide and decide to keep my 8.5. Also, although I didn't want to pay the 70 something for a cashmere loop scarf I saw last night on sale, I stopped it up. The 64 one I got earlier is SOOO WARM!! So I can't wait for next winter ;)

  19. New promo! TIMETOSHOP gets 30% off your purchase, 50% off final sale. The promo is good for Sun, 3/13 only so if you need a price adjustment be sure to do it today. I called mine in. The last time I emailed for a price adj on a one-day promo, they didn't want to honor it because there was a new promo in effect when they saw my request.

    1. do you only ask for price adjustments if it's within the 7 day window? I have an order that's 10 days old (from the day I placed it, not the ship date) and I don't want to ask and get shot down!

    2. @stripedsocks, if I'm not mistaken, I think you should qualify for the PA - I believe you're eligible for one within 7 days of shipping, not from when you ordered. (Also, I once called for a PA 10 after the eligibility window- they honored it as a one-time courtesy, but I don't think they would do it again, or more than once in a calendar year, similar to when they occasionally waive Final Sale.) But I think you should be ok if you call today.

@Gigi, thanks for this tip about the promo, just placed an order last night and would've probably missed this one!)

    3. I emailed first thing this morning for a PA, and just got the confirmation that they applied the new promo. Yay!

    4. I just had a somewhat surprising and disappointing experience asking for a PA. It's not really J. Crew's fault, but when she gave me the new total from the order I placed yesterday, it was significantly not as big as what I had calculated (I ordered the petite chateau trench and two muscle tees, for something like $214.) With the new promo, it would've come out to $187, but the rep said it was $199 and went on to explain that it was due to the shipping tax levied on my delivery zip code. (A $12+ charge) I make the majority of my purchases online bc I need the petite sizes and most items aren't available in stores. The items are always shipped to the same address and I've never, ever been charged this, so this was a surprise, to say the least. I pointed out that this charge wasn't even on the original order, nor any of the more recent ones I've made, either via online or by phone (I simply wouldn't be ordering online, period, if that were the case.) The rep said she'd look further into the matter and that perhaps it's a glitch, but it wasn't something she could personally waive. Either way, if that's the case, I simply can't order via online anymore (this didn't happen with a recent Anthro purchase, for instance). Not JC's fault, like I said, but I can't have items shipped elsewhere for a variety of reasons. Work has always been the best place for it. Oh well. The rep said she would email me with the final results, but I have to say the whole exchange rather surprised me :-( oh well.

    1. Those look nice. I have the black Teddie pants, though, and the silhouette looks very similar. Do you think it is? Is the difference mainly in the fabric? Thanks!

      Delete
    2. They are more similar to the patio pant silhouette, or even Rayner, than the fit and flare of the teddie pant. I tried them and was very impressed also.

      Delete
    3. Thanks Suz! The patio didn't work on me, but now I can't remember why. Hopefully the store will have the ponte pants to try on.

      Delete
    4. cate - Without going to my closet to check and going off of memory, the fabric of the Teddie is in the vein of the cotton cafe capri. In contrast, the wide leg fabric is ponte, like a thick legging, but not stiff like the pixie pant. The fabric is in the vein of the ponte peplum top like this one from 2013 . However, it's a little thicker & there's a flow to the fabric. The leg opening is wider than the Teddie which is a kick/flare opening. It would be easier if I had either or both in hand to describe as I type. Hopefully this helps.

      Delete
    5. I went back to find my patio pants review. I agree w/Suz Has that the wide leg cut is similar.

There was a fit problem in the crotch and thighs for me in the patio pants which had a front fly zip and belt loops. That has somehow been solved in the side-zip, no waistband wide leg pants. I don't know if the sizing is slightly bigger in the fabric is helping to create a better fit. Also, I never got the flow in the patio pants that I saw in the stock pic. That flow happens in the wide leg pants without having an exaggerated swing. I'm going on and on, but I know some JCAS don't have a store nearby.

      Delete
    6. I agree with you re: the crotch pulling on the cotton patio pants. Mine seems to be ok after opening the pockets but it really bugged me at first. I don't think there are belt loops on the patio though.

I didn't take a pic, but the top of the wide leg Ponte pant with the side zip really gives a sleek feel, and I think the fabric kind of keeps it all in. On my I took the larger of my two sizes but the smaller fit, I just think the hip looked better on the larger for my shape. I could see these being very popular once people try them on.

      Delete
    7. Right, no belt loops on the patio pants. I'm going off of pics only. I don't own any of them.

    11. I want to try these pants! If/when I do, I'll probably get the navy since I have lots of black pants..........but even with that I struggle from a practicality standpoint with not one, but TWO white Maine Coon kitties here in the house. Constantly working with the lint roller not to mention the vacuum. That's why I tried the chambray Patio Pants on this rollout, and hope they don't bag out like the bi-stretch cotton Patios. Gigi, thanks for your reviews on your blog, they are very helpful.

    12. So funny, I bought a case of lint rollers at Costco. My almost 14 yo (you know the teenaged girl uniform is almost always black leggings) keeps a lint roller in her backpack and obsessively rolls her pants when we get in the car.
