"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. 2O % OFF sale for Canadians. need I say more. C
J Crew is falling off my radar .

  2. Only 25% sale for the US as well. Boo! I put several items in my cart this morning but 25% off is not going to make me pull the trigger. And the fine print says this promo is through the 28th.

  3. Are they doing away with the Minnie? Navy & black marked to $59.99! Not a good sign when a staple, year-round piece is marked to something ending with .99! I have sold every pair I own besides a sample pair in seafoam thanks to size fluctuations... I'd be really disappointed if they're squashing them for good, even though I do love the cotton Martie.

    1. Loved the Minnie...all my Minnie's don't fit so now I only have Winnie's which are ok but not as much stretch and the zippers suck...I wish J. Crew wold start doing the Minnie again in more colors instead of potentially disconituing it. I don't like the fit of the Martie. The waist is not comfrotable even going up two sizes and the leg is baggy

    2. I saw that too and want to pick up another pair in black. I am guessing they are discontinuing them or at least phasing out the old Minnie's and perhaps they will reissue them as they have done with other pants like the Campbell Capri and Patio pants. I guess we'll see.

    3. Such a bummer if they're phasing them out completely. I love that silhouette under a tunic - I actually wore my one remaining pair today with a navy long-sleeved mixed media tunic, striped scarf & navy suede ballet flats. Super-cute! It wouldn't have been the same without the cut of the pants.

  4. Nothing for me...they are trying to train us to shop without promos and I am not falling for it. Merchandise is so blah and uninteresting. I am however loving Madewell right now. I was at the Grove yesterday and saw so many cute things.

    1. yup, i have a rule and sticking to it 30% min for full price, new releases and at least 40% for sale - that's it, no compromise for my wallet and self control. we need to not buy and send the message that this 25% off is not working.

    2. I am the same way! I try to wait for 40 percent off the full price, between sales and promos, unless I really love something and it's selling out fast (that's maybe 1-2 items per year)

  5. I absolutely despise getting my orders fulfilled from a J.Crew store. I shop online so that my merchandise does not come shopworn, wadded up, or wreaking of perfume, so when my garment arrives that way, it makes me very upset. My Chateau Trench arrived stuffed in to a small brown J.Crew bag, when it really should have been sent in a box, IMO.

    1. slightly off topic ...I thought of Crew today because I received my Tory Burch private sale order and the ($100) cardigan I ordered was literally crumpled in to a ball and shoved in a plastic bag, and then shoved in next to the purse in the box, resulting in a wrinkly mess of a cardigan. I'm all for conserving space and shipping in a smaller box but come on...fold the sweater neatly and place on top of the purse prior to packaging...it's not hard.

    2. Melissa, the same thing happened to me with the trench! Stuffed in the brown envelope and then my mail carrier crammed it in my mailbox. Ridiculous! I've had plenty of items that are a lot less bulky arrive in a box, on a hanger. I complained to CS but they didn't really care.

    3. Yeah, that's ridiculous, Melissa. Items such as coats should really be packaged with more care - definitely requires a box!

    4. It really is ridiculous. I'm hoping that the fiery sunset trench I ordered will arrive packaged appropriately in a box. I'll keep you posted.

    5. Please do, Melissa. I've just ordered this trench for the third time, trying to get the fit right! I've tried R00, P00, P0, R2 and now I'm going for the R0 (since R00 wasn't too far off and Ps aren't available.) Hope springs eternal!

Anyways, here's hoping our coats are packaged properly! (I still can't believe they did that! My first one was packaged similarly to Peis' below, really over the top, so I thought they all came like that as well.)

Incidentally, when I returned my 2nd coat yesterday, I saw the SA sort of shove it into a wrinkly mess onto the counter behind her, made me wince for whomever it gets sent to next. Sigh.

  6. not really a vent? i haven't bought anything from J Crew in over a month and my wish list is completely empty. Part uninterested in the offerings, part watching my spending.

  7. Sorry to hear about the packaging. Such a letdown when you're excited about receiving your item and opening it. I'm pretty sure my trench was from warehouse because it was nicely packaged with tissue paper in the sleeves and covering the trench on a hanger in a box. So I couldn't believe they aren't all received that way!

  8. Totally OT, but yet another fluff article on What It's Like To Be Jenna... http://thekit.ca/fashion/a-day-in-the-life-jenna-lyons/
Did we know she has no eyebrows? Lol.

    1. Maybe that's why she wears glasses to hide her brows. I must say her brow situation is on point in pictures; it always looks the same. Maybe it's sparse..that way she can brush it in??

I've read somewhere about her disease where it has something to do with her hair...

      She still awesome!

  9. Hello Crew ladies! I wish J Crew had a find in store feature. Other stores have it, Loft, Ann Taylor, Anthropologie, and White House Black Market just to name a few.

    1. I think Anna meant find an item in store, not find the store.

    2. That would be so helpful, Anna Maria. The Gap/BR family does that as well. I know the SAs can look up items in nearby stores and that's somewhat helpful, but it would be great info to have if you're still at home/work and planning to search out an item before heading directly to that store.

    3. Oops. Sorry, I didn't read that right.

    4. JCrew does have this feature- I'm surprised an SA has never offered it. They have recently upgraded their system so when you are online that reflects the true (total- stores and direct -inventory). When the inventory levels are low it may show that it's sold out but I've had luck when when my favorite SA will use the Ipad to look further. This takes time though b/c they need to call the other store to do a search and send-sale so it's best not to try this when it's really busy- they probably won't do it then. I've been lucky several times though so if you really want it ( and have a great SA) it might work

    5. @stylemaven, I think the system we were talking about is the one other stores have on their actual websites. You can select the item and then find out which store has it within say, 10 miles from your zip code. This means you can look it up from your own computer, ahead of time before you head to the store, not once you're there. I've definitely had SAs look up items for me once I'm in the store and that's helpful for sure, but sometimes it would be nice to know which store to go to. Banana lets you do this and reserve it in store.

  10. Yes that's what I meant, to see if the item is in a store in the size and color we want. It would help people that may not live close to a store.

  11. I ordered Crackled Metallic Party Heels and they are not as pictured. I have been searching for a shoe like this (and a huge Dirty Dancing fan) for a year. When I saw these I ordered IMMEDIATELY. I was disappointed when I opened the box.

The straps across the toes are not pinched together as they are in the picture. The straps lay almost side by side creating a wider look across the toes. I called J Crew to give feedback and they confirmed the stock they have does not look like the picture.

  12. Belated - I had 7 items in my cart for the sale on sale, went to check out, and all my items are gone. HONESTLY. They were all sale items, some from the men's section, and this has happened three times now. Should I just give up? Undecided...

    1. Also, I forgot - last time I went in and started adding all the items to my cart again...after a bit they all repopulated and then I had duplicates of everything. Gah!
