Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Clear the Rack has started @ Nordstrom Rack. Save an extra 25% off clearance through 3/27. Triple points for Nordstrom card holders. Triple point days are also available @ Nordstrom. I'm a J Brand fan so picked up Ellis low rise straight jeans for about $40 & finally able to score Vince partial button front suede tunic. @ Nordstrom if you're a fan of Philosophy beauty products, $75 gift with a $35 purchase. Highly recommend fresh cream body lotion & shower gel.

  2. Anthropologie has new arrivals this week - I've shared my personal picks in this post, for those interested.

I also shared my thoughts on maxi dresses, as well as several picks (from spendy to thrifty) on my blog yesterday. Another Spring and Summer of Maxi Dresses.... :)

  3. I have a review of a dress and "jardigan" from MM LaFleur on my blog here.

The company does work wear for women and usually offers a Bento Box, which means they pick out a few items and send them to you. I didn't do the Bento this time, because I pretty much fell in love with the dress right when I saw it.

    1. I like shopping at Loft but they have changed their policy re: returns. I don't know if it is nationwide (I'm in Chicago) but Loft now scans your license when you exchange or return an item. They scan your license EVEN IF YOU HAVE YOUR RECEIPT. I'm not a fan of this type of information gathering and will be strictly limiting my shopping with Loft in the future.

    2. @Shopalot, the Loft here in NYC does that as well. I try to buy only things I can try on, rather than order online. It's a big turnoff. :-(

    3. I was just exchanging a knit top for a different size and the SA insisted on scanning my license. "New policy" she said. I was not amused. I don't shop at Limited or Victoria's Secret for this reason. I used to order a lot of "online exclusive" items from Loft but won't be ordering anything at all now. All the information they need to process a return is on the receipt or shipping invoice!

    4. @shopalot, it's particularly obnoxious to do that on an exchange!!! I can *sort of* understand why they might want to do that on returns, as a way of dealing with people who return stuff constantly perhaps (not really, still obnoxious, but I *guess* I get it) but on an exchange???!!! No, uh. That would completely limit/end my online shopping there as well.

    5. Absolutely a no-no giving your driver's license to anyone, much less letting anyone scan it. The number is much like you SS and scams abound. Please be aware and don't give your information away. You wouldn't give your SS # away so why would you with your DL's#?

    6. Found my Loft receipt and this is what it states at the bottom: "A valid photo ID is required to return or exchange an item. Please refer to our in-store signage for all accepted forms of ID. ID information will be kept in a company database used to authorize returns. LOFT reserves the right to limit returns or exchanges regardless of receipt; excessive return or exchange transactions may result in a warning or denial of a particular return." Yeah, no thanks. See ya later, Loft.

    1. !!!!!! I didn't know about that one, will have to check it out!
Target is doing a collab with Marimekko in April --

    2. Can't wait to see the Uniqlo collab tonight. Hope there are some cute things to buy. Saw the Marimekko lookbook yesterday; cute stuff but will probably be very difficult to actually get anything, just like the Lilly Pulitzer collab last year.

    3. OK, completely underwhelmed by the Uniqlo/Liberty of London collaboration. Was hoping for some cotton or linen button up shirts. Looks like mostly oddly shaped tees and rayon shorts. Oh well.

    4. Ditto! They did have linen shirts but in the men's section.

  6. I just bought a pair of these chinos from Garnet Hill. They're great quality (all cotton), soft, and the fit is *so* flattering. They look good with sneakers too which I like as I wear sneakers a lot. What I didn't like about GH was my shipping (for 2 items) was $13.95 and it was not even UPS --just smartpost. I want to return one of the items - not the chinos :) - and the charge for using the return label is $6.95.

  7. A bit of style inspiration via Madewell with my own personal twist for a less spendy version of the look here: Madewell Looks We Love... Shop It: The Real Deal or The Real Steal.

  8. Get ready for some bargains! JCrew is now liquidating 100,000 pieces of merchandise every 4-6 months to TJ Maxx. These are all premium items, new with tags, directly from the distribution center. Many are still in the catalog. Jcrew must be really hurting for money to move this route- currently being sent this month are thousands of new shoes and coats for the Fall season at TJ Maxx.
