    1. Banana republic has a military jacket that's in that whole utility/field jacket category. I just got mine and I love it. Went with my usual Small (I wear a 4 in j crew coats) and BR currently is offering 40% off.

    2. RN - the downtown field? That and the field jacket are 25% off w/SHOPNOW. The downtown field was regular price with 25%/SHOPNOW last nite, too.

  3. OT: Ladies with field jackets - do you machine wash? Does the finish on the jacket come out OK?

    1. I don't have one but I don't recommend machine washing any jacket.. I have seen that one in stores and would not put that in the machine....dry clean to be safe unless of course the tag inside says machine wash :)

    2. I have one and I've washed it several times.

    3. The tag says machine wash but I thought I'd check with the experts first. Thanks!

    4. I dryclean mine just in case the brass buttons get damaged or scraped.

    5. I machine wash, but turn it inside out so the buttons don't get scratched.

  4. This is totally OT but I have to share where I know this will be appreciated...Last summer, I wanted to wear my Collection Cafe Capri pants in Ratti regatta print (sailboat print) from 2013 I think. I went to get them from the closet and they were no where to be found. I have looked and looked, I mean for hours...Last night, I was digging through some skirts (oh pistache floral pencil skirt, you are still beautiful) from the back of the closet and I found my pants. I thought I might have taken them to the consignment shop by accident and have literally kicked myself for months. They remind of the excellent quality and prints that J.Crew used to do and it was so exciting to see them hanging right there where I had left them. (and yes, my closet is an overcrowded mess)

Also, I have not bought anything from J.Crew in almost three weeks. There are a few things that I like in store but not willing to pay full price and the markdowns are not very good either. Soooo happy I found my pants.

Also does this jacket ever go to clearance? Thanks advance to those who can help!

    1. The downtown field is a basic. I think once waaaay back when it was first released, it went to markdown and some JCAs were able to get it at the sale + promo code. I've never seen it makred down ($.99) since.

The lowest price I paid was 2014, $89.60. I might have caught it on a promo price ($.00) + promo code when there's a crossover of 2 promos on the website. It happens for a few hours when promos change from one to another. Other than that, I've only seen 25-30% off fp.

Get the S. I wear 4 or 6 in coats and have size S. I had XS when I first bought it () and the minute I gained a couple lbs, it was too tight. It's should fit close to the body, but not be tight. I'm able to layer the S over an excursion vest. I wear both open when I do that.

If you click on this link you can see my blog reviews of burgundy, black and the mossy green (when first released).

    2. Thanks so much! I will read your reviews now but sounds like small is the way to go. I was not thinking xs at all I thought maybe medium but I think medium would look too big.

    3. you will love it! I have one purchased at factory (no other indications that. It's a Factory garment but I haven't double checked style numbers) about 4 years ago and I think it's really the kind of garment that gets better with wear. I posted previously that it's the item my teenaged daughters most often "borrow" so I've actually had to wash it more than I would most jackets and it looks great. I have a charcoal gray color but would love black too. It has a different look in black,

    4. Going for the burgundy color!

    5. I agree with Gigi about the sizing. I typically wear a size 4 (a 6 in perfect shirts and occasionally a 2) and I have the jacket in a size small. I managed to get mine last March while it was on promo with an extra 40% off. I have the mossy brown color but, like Suz, would love to have the black eventually.

  9. Has anyone tried on the Popover Shirt in Buffalo Check (Bright Ocean)? I would like to order it but I wasn't sure how the sizing ran. I wear a size 2 in Boyshirts and a size 4 in Perfect Shirts. TIA!

    1. Never tried it but I find their popovers have a more generous fit. Closer fit to boy shirt than perfect shirt.
