J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website (click here to view online).

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, as did the J.Crew Collection (click here).

As mentioned by several JCAs, J.Crew posted several images of the newest catalog over at Pinterest (click here to view).

The theme at J.Crew this time around is Gingham. All gingham all the time. Frankly, I love it. Back to a classic that will be forever in your closet.

And I am loving the Trench Cape (item F0291; $178.00) too. Could this not be the most beautiful outerwear you have seen lately?!? Loves.

Promotion Time! J.Crew offering 25% off select regular priced items and 30% off sale with promo code SHOPNOW. This offer expires March 12, 2016. Plus free shipping on all orders. This offer ends today!

What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. I am very interested in the new Flare Jean in Parkmount Wash. The inseam is 32", so maybe it's doable for a shorter person. I am also interested in the Billie Demi Boot Crop jeans. These are both styles I've been looking for for a long time and can't seem to find the right thing. Hopefully these might be it.

    3. Ina - where is the Billie review? I see you wearing cute jeans in your last few try-ons, but cannot find the Billie jeans.

  2. There are quite a few things I like. The Campbell scattered daisy blazer looks really cute. Not sure how that mustard would work but might be fine over a gray or Black shirt. There seem to be a bunch of different pant options. I'm pretty good on jeans and just ordered the Point Sur in Stevie wash (I think) on sale so I'm trying not to look too closely at the denim.

  3. The mens' TEXTURED COTTON CREWNECK SWEATER IN BLANKET STRIPE
item e8566 looks great. But I went for the REVERSE TERRY SWEATSHIRT
    item e1319 in black.

With the discount and free shipping the fleece was $31, down from $101. Hello score.

    1. Very depressing article. I know that JCrews quality has declined in general but fast fashion is really concerning for the environment, our health and the horrible quality of most of it. (I don't consider jcrew fast fashion.) It's sad when you walk into old navy or F21 or such and the chemical smell overwhelms you.
Anyway I truly hope jcrew turns things around they are still my go to retailer and I love their customer service.
We better start shopping jcas and save this company. :) Rollouts are looking better at least!

    2. In some ways I don't think Factory helps the situation. Considering how many items they knock off, even when they are still on the retail site, consumers may choose to skip the higher price item and wait until the Factory version. I confess I have done that with a few items. I definitely did that with some dresses and vests.

    3. Depressing because it's probably true. J. Crew expanded too much, too fast, and it backfired. I know we've said this a lot here, but it still feels to me like they didn't pay enough attention to their existing customers while they were busy pursuing new customers. And the new customers are probably the ones who are more interested in fast fashion. Those that like J. Crew can get the fast fashion fix from J. Crew Factory. The other new customer they seem to try for is the higher end customer, who they could have captured with some Collection pieces rather than change the whole direction of the retail line in that direction. That customer is never going to have a closet of J. Crew anyway, it's going to be mostly higher end brands. And the solid existing customer base waits patiently for the brand to settle down, which I think it is doing now, finally. But the expansion experiments are what I think has caused their problems.

    4. In any case, I have liked the last couple of rollouts and I think they're getting back to where they need to be. I think they need to add back some special pieces/prints to go along with their core basics, but I think they're getting there. And by special I don't mean jewels slapped onto all the things.

      Delete
    5. Thanks for that link jBird, interesting article and comments. Many people commented on the fact that their clothes from the mid-2000's were something special and that they still have them, great fabrics and construction etc. And that the current offerings don't have the quality or style.
I think JCrew needs to do something radical to turn itself around before the business is no longer viable. How about great tailoring, fabric, make some things in America, sell yourself as Considerate Consumption... I have never considered JCrew fast fashion- I think that's true for most people, but when stuff falls apart and is hardly discernible from something sold at F21 why would anyone shop there?
Very depressing to think about this downward spiral and their $2B debt, I am rooting for the brand still. That being said there is nothing that interests me in the roll-out today and I am actually actively looking for some day dresses and some suiting right now. I can't find anything anywhere- JCrew was always my store. I'm not buying fast fashion and I'm not paying designer so where do I go? I think there is a gap JCrew could fill if they put their thinking caps on.

    6. Agreed completely DaniP - you summed up my thoughts exactly. I don't have another store yet.

And thanks jBird for the link.

    7. For me, the best thing about J. Crew is their Style Guide. I like a lot of their vision but the quality is disappointing and when I see the quality of the mens side, it's obvious they know the difference. I've been very particular with J. Crew lately and shopping the promos at Ralph Lauren. One just ended yesterday that was up to 30% off of everything including sale and I've had good luck with their quality so far. I still love J. Crew, have been buying for over ten years, but sheer shirts, exposed zippers, polyester, etc. make me sad. Right when I think they're lost, they will surprise me with some adorable outfit so I'm never too far away.

  5. I love the gingham moto too, and bought it. Yes at full price-I think it will sell out fast because there were supposedly only a few left in my size.

  6. Lots of scallops, lots of gingham! I love the gingham Tippi but I'm not fond of the color choices. I'd have loved a true navy or a bright pink. I'm trying to shop smarter & none of the colors available would be much use in my wardrobe. Bummer because I'd planned to buy one first thing this morning! Not wow-ed by the shoes, either. I think my love affair with the Crew has waned... at least with "new" Crew. Still snatching classics up on Poshmark & eBay!

    1. I was disappointed by the colors of the gingham Tippi too and agree that classic navy or bight pink would have been great; I would have also went for a bright green color but rust gingham for spring? No thanks.

    2. Taylor, agreed, not wowed by the shoes at all...sadness :(

  7. Really liking the gingham motto jacket, trench Cape and seeing gingham in general. Am interested in the ornate lace midi (although I can't really justify another white skirt). I like the belted look of the washed skirt but the slit looks high to me. I might try the short sleeve popover but last year I couldn't get the size right.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I really like the gingham shorts and the colorful jacquard striped pencil skirt, though I don't like the frayed hem, I feel like this will not wear well over time. I love the double stripe cap sleeve dress, i realize it's very similar to one offered last spring, but I stupidly waited for that one to go on sale, and then it sold out. Of course this morning they are already sold out in my size :(
Does anybody have notes on how the preston pant in chambray fits?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm interested in the Trench cape, too! Thank goodness it's offered in XXS! I ordered that along with the Billie Jean (ha!), in dark wash and white. And thank goodness it's offered in petite, and it's 25% off. I love the cut and with petite size I hope the high rise works.

The gingham items is cute, but I'm a stripe girl at heart.

I wishlisted - stripe dress withe bell sleeves, ornate camera bag, Comme de Garçon stripe tee, Wide leg ponte pant (kind of lame that it only comes in navy petite).

  10. Can anyone tell me if there are any pants at JCrew that DON'T have pockets? New arrivals or old stuff, doesn't matter.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Minnies (old and new) don't have front or side pockets. Back pockets are just slits, sewn closed.

      Delete
    2. The old Cafe Capri pants and Madison Stretch Chinos had tiny little coin pockets in the front, but they weren't really useful. The prima stretch wool pants from 2007/2008 also didn't have front pockets, they had small back ones. I have them in gray, black and pin striped. Also, the pixie pants don't have any pockets.

  11. The one thing I wanted (the short sleeve popover in metallic gingham, was sold out in my size (and most other sizes) when new arrivals hit the site last night at 9 pm PST. Really? Sigh....

  14. I'm not loving a ton from this rollout - I have the gingham Martie pants from the last rollout so that's probably my piece of gingham for the season. I do really like the moto jacket but I know that my price per wear will be limited so I'm going to sit that one out...I agree, I'm more a stripe girl!

Funny that they appear to have re-released that stripe dress - I'll have to look at mine, the bust looks slightly different but maybe not.

I do like the neon tweed pencil skirt but again, my price per wear won't be worth it at full price. I like the light blue tweed dress and like that it's short sleeved vs. sleeveless - I'm thinking about trying that and I'm a big fan of the short sleeve cotton popover so going to try a tall one in the oxford blue. I'm kicking around trying a lighter wash in the crop denim, I have the vintage cropped jeans from last year in the dark wash and like them a lot.

I'm missing the pretty prints - pretty underwhelmed from a print standpoint these last few rollouts.

    3. Yeah no print that you keep seeing in diff piece of the collection like in the past...I only like the flower boy shirt and the liberty blouse from this new roll out..Rest is just ok...Too much gingham...too reminiscnt of their boring plaids

  15. I like all the gingham and but I have so much already in my closet that I probably don't need much more. I have the black/white gingham pants from Loft from 2 years ago and at least 7 gingham button up shirts that I have collected from Jcrew and Joe Fresh. I agree Anne about the lack of printed pants. I need some of those groundbreaking florals for spring!

  16. Okay, I get it - grommets and gingham. Message received. Fine but nothing must-have. Might buy the suede espadrilles when they go on sale.

Swim is the best part of the rollout IMO. Last season's were pretty tacky - a modicum of taste and style has returned.

I've given up expecting any pretty dresses. I always used to buy at least two per season but that hasn't been true for a while.

  18. I stopped in for the walk of shame (aka my latest rounds of online returns). I tried on the wide leg Ponte pants, which I actually found to be super flattering. I was wearing a fitted painter stripe shirt, floral scarf and cap toe ballet flats and felt very chic and Parisian. I didn't want to bite those that because I ordered the patio pants on sale in black and the fit may be similar. My other concern is the fabric. Don't get me wrong, super comfy, but I have several super cute Lululemon wide leg pants I wear when I want to be comfy and I can even wear them with sandals or cute ballet flats, so not sure I need a dressier pair of essentially the same thing.

I also tried on the matte crepe pant and although I'm not thrilled with the poly, they are machine washable and totally effortless. The looked good with the striped tee and flats and would work with heels too. They reminded me a bit of the turner pant in poly but with a zipper and not elastic at the bottom—Which I realized I wasn't crazy about after all. They were very flattering in a comfortable way. Again, not much of a need for me with my current lifestyle but an easy comfortable pant.

I tried on the bell sleeve striped knit dress and felt like a clown.

The campbell daisy blazer is online only and out of my budget, but I hope to snag it at some point if it goes on sale.

    1. Typo- re: wide leg Ponte pant, I didint want to bite on them yet...
Btw, the fabric was a nice heavy knit and it kind of held me in, and I like the side zip and seaming.

    2. Oh, my smaller and larger size fit fine but I think the larger was a little more flattering without looking too baggy,

      Delete
    3. Thanks for the review - I went ahead and ordered these in my usual size - if the fabric is good, I feel like they could be great for travel.

      Delete
    4. Definitely great for travel. Both pairs actually.

      Delete
    5. I ordered the ponte (should have specified) - I was thinking the thicker fabric would be more flattering.

I appreciate that both pants are machine washable - I am not a fan of dry clean only pants!

      Delete
    6. Suz - Sorry to hear the bell sleeve knit dress didn't work out. What was wrong with the dress?

I wishlisted it. I have a feeling it may not work on me as well.

    7. I can't even out it into words! Shifts. Generally don't do much for me because I have a long torso and a small waist, but I knew that going into it. I think the sleeves hit my arms in a weird place, the length wasn't quite right, and the combo of the stripes and puffy sleeves made me look like a pinhead. But I saw Ina's IG and she looks adorable. Maybe it's better for someone shorter.

      Delete
    8. @Suz Has, LOL at walk of shame - that's exactly how I feel! Thanks for the great reviews, I think the bell sleeve dress would look the same on me. :)

    9. @jan, I posted another round of reviews yesterday and posted a pic of jeans on my IG, people seem to like them but I'm not sure. Maybe I'll add those reviews here.

    10. My additional reviews:

I got my latest order including the:

-Teddie in sailor stripe. Size 00 which I took in the other teddies was sold out so I got the 0. They are loose at the top but pull across the hips. So I'm not sure if the fit is right, although they're really cute. I opened the pockets to see if that helps, but it just may be that the cut doesn't work for me.

-point sur x rocker Stevie or whatever they're called. Ordered 25 which is my usual jean size. These fit perfectly (tight) but I think they would stretch a bit since they are all cotton, or at least feel like it. At first glance I loved them but I'm not sure I can pull this super high waist and cropped flare trend off at 46.

-patio pant in bi stretch cotton for $24.99. I tried these on when they were full price and wasn't wowed, but the fabric is better for spring and for the price, with gladiator sandals I think they are a good look for me.

      - military trench coat, size 0. I'm usually a 2 in blazers and a 4/6 in coats but this popped back in a 0. It just fits. I LOVE the color and the cotton. Buttoned all the way it feels a little tight, but if I just tie it, other than the sleeves maybe being a tiny bit short, and the waist a little high, it's really nice. This color is so much more flattering than the usual tan on me, I wish they'd do more in this color.

-faux leather pleated mini skirt in black, 00. Both the 00 and the 0 fit and I like it a little higher on the waist. The length is actually a little long for a mini skirt. I really like the material. If the style works, it's a great price right now.

      Additiona, comments:
The teddies are definitely not navy stripe as mentioned. To my eyes the stripe is black, and my black lace up sandals looked fine with them. If they are navy it's the darkest navy I've ever seen.

Posted a pic of the Point Sur Stevie X rocker jeans on my IG @wearthislikethis. They are tight but I thought they had potential as dress up jeans, however my 18 year old daughter disagreed. However, she did really like the faux leather pleated skirt. (Which I unfortunately need to exchange as there is no eye on the hook and eye closure!)

      Sorry for so many "howevers."

    11. The military trench in size 4 popped back and I'm tempted to order but of course it's more expensive today than it was when I ordered last week. Grr. I hate that.

    12. Also, the glitter Gemma flats. With black trim. I sized down and these fit whereas the leather ones don't. They're really cute but a little pricy for a fabric shoe I am concerned will stretch out. I tried with a skirt and don't think they look great. I keep trying them with different things but I think they have to go back.

  19. I'm loving the classic feel of some of the pieces. I ordered a few items including the (not new) leopard Margo crossbody. The solid colors went on promo + sale, but not the leopard. It will probably go on sale in 8 days.

Interesting to try the jeans with a block heel. I've worn mine with a regular heel but for summer I think a chunky heel would look cute.

  21. Went at lunchtime today to look over the new arrivals and pick up a new style guide. Very underwhelmed. The gingham Tippi's fabric felt strange to me. Agree with others that pink or green would have been better than the "not navy" blue. A lot of the button up shirts seemed very thin, like cheesecloth. Maybe I wasn't in the mood but nothing appealed to me. I left without even a new style guide, as none were available. A wasted trip, for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Nothing big for me in the new rollout, but I do like the 25% off so many regular priced items. I decided I'd like a casual hooded trench so got in chateau trench in both colors to try. Also got the frayed denim pencil skirt in both white and denim, and the black micro gingham shirt, as I strangely do not have a black gingham in my closet.

Great cotton dresses are so hard to find. No luck at jc or br or ann taylor. Poly and rayon and viscose are everywhere. I happened to walk by a talbots and a beautiful floral dress was in the window. It's called the cape bouquet sheath, $169, made cotton with a bit of spandex. Poly lining unfortunately but as long as I don't wear it in super hot weather, it will be fine. Got it, with a 25% off everything promo that was running. Every year I seem to happen across one or two beautiful summer dresses at talbots, just by luck, as I rarely shop there these days...

    1. Jan, as far as I can tell for Canadian stores, I think it may be online-only, at least for now. I went to Yorkville, Yorkdale, and Eaton Centre today, and none of them had it. They all had the dress, and the white version of the skirt.

      Delete
    2. Thank you, Xan! I really appreciate your help! I went to a store on Tues. since I was out of town but they didn't have new arrivals yet (just getting the boxes). What did you think of the skirt or dress from seeing it?

      Delete
    3. You're welcome! In terms of what I thought of the skirt or dress, I'm not sure yet. I put the navy dress and matching skirt on my wishlist at first when roll-outs went online, but I wanted to see what cotton-polyester for the fabric meant exactly. I thought maybe it was like, cotton for the navy part, and polyester for the lace.

Anyway, I thought the navy parts of the dress had this odd sort of thin, 'crispy' texture, for lack of a better word -- the best comparison I can think of is the kind of tissue paper people use for arts and crafts, but a little thicker and more fabric-y. It's definitely thin, and you can see through the navy, from what I remember, or at least you can if there's strong lighting.

The skirt was longer and poofier than I would have expected, and on someone short to average like me, I think I'd get drowned in the fabric. My ideal would be the navy dress, but without the sleeves (my preference, I don't like t-shirt or cap sleeves), and with the navy fabric not being sheer-ish and with the weird cotton/poly texture. But it could work out better for you!

      Delete
    4. Xan, thank you so much for your insights, I really appreciate it since I don't get into a store too often. I was thinking the same as you -cotton for navy and poly for lace - too bad to hear about the odd texture. It sounds like it won't work for me, I have a hard time with some midis. I've really been hoping for a great summer skirt from one of these rollouts.

    3. If you have a VPS, you should have them check for you. There were a few things I was interested in. One is not being produced at all; another product didn't meet quality standards (yes, that's what I was told - it was a necklace) so they are not selling it. The VPS could also pre-order and item for you and/or let you know the release date. My daughter just told me she''s been watching for the off the shoulder dress too. So I may ask, but my VPS has been sick this week.

  26. Purchased Elsie bow tie heels from last roll out. Found a pair without the frayed ribbon and was able to stack discounts. Striped shoes were on my spring/summer list so I can check that box. Lots of choices for this shoe, but going to try it first with the daisy print shirt and navy linen cargo skirt. Tried the linen gingham shorts; fit was tts and linen always stretches out. Paired with oversized plaid shirt. The prints are a nice mix & so I'm planning to pick these up. They also work with the Gingham Tunic, so this will work well for vacation & casually. Chino shirtdress is on my wishlist; want to see reviews on fit/quality since its online only before purchasing. Hoping it can work as a casual dress, paired with a striped tank, to wear to work during the summer. Think it would look cool with the striped Elsie's or black Chanel quilted ballet flats. That's it from this roll out for me; wish there was more to purchase since there's double points. Still waiting on the gingham strappy sandals from NYFW. Picked up a couple of linen tanks on sale for cheap; I'm a fan of linen during hot TX summers.

  28. I saw the denim Pom Pom flats earlier this week online - went back to order 2 days later and now sold out :((

So sad... Called customer svc to see if they were really really sold out and unfortunately , they are.

Guess I'll be stalking the site every morning to see if any bounce back....

Lesson learned. If I love it, jump on it immediately.

    1. Hi Sherri, if they aren't online only I would call a store directly and have them do a store wide search. Sometimes an item is found in store even if cs says there are none. HTH
There are a couple of items from recent rollouts that sold out really quickly, I don't know if they're making less of them or sales are up. I'm regretting missing an item too. :)
