J.Crew Updates Website with New Arrivals!

"Thanks!" to many of you, including BeachyDuck & YoungJJ (in this post), Rose (in this post), as well as Douglas & Debby (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website (click here to view online). There are over 200 new arrivals on the website!

There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, but not the J.Crew Collection (click here).

The June catalog (click here to view) is available to view. However, the latest Summer catalog is not up yet.  Although it is already being sent out to customers in the mail (and available in brick & mortar stores)
Major overhaul! As you probably already noticed, J.Crew updated its website design and features. One of the things customers have been asking for has finally arrived... a wish list! (There is a blue arrow in the top image showing its location on the main page too.) The layout of the product page has been updated too. The description is shown in full without the need to click for more. Plus, the drop down menu for sizes and colors are gone. What is available is shown right on the page.

Don't forget! J.Crew is also offering a few different variations of the same promotion right now. These offers expire Monday, June 24, 2013.
  • Get an additional 25% off (30% off if you open a credit card) merchandise online by using promotional code NEWSTYLE
  • Get an additional 30% off merchandise online by using promotional code THEBEST
  • Cardholders get an additional 30% off merchandise online by using promotional code CARDTREAT and their JC Credit Card as payment.
  • Canadian customers get an additional 30% off merchandise online by using promotional code NEWSTYLE30.
What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

  1. Very pleased with the addition of the wishlist function (finally)!
Wonder if they'll ever have customer reviews?
I'm not so enamoured of the latest rollouts. I love the new dark green colour for the no 2 pencil skirt, but think I'll wait for Fall for my next purchase.
I'm eyeing up a sweater from the Fall collection that will almost certainly be very $$$, so better to save for that, I think.
    Plus, it's winter here!

  2. I'm glad for the wishlist feature but also not seeing too much I want, maybe 1 or two items. I do like this trend I'm seeing of J Crew bringing back some older styles and patterns, the rolled edge on the cashmere tees and the pineapple pattern. Keeping fingers crossed for a fall return of the Bella.

  3. The irony of finally getting a Wishlist when there is not a single thing I wish to have from this rollout. Why is this rollout so terrible? ugh...

  4. Thoughts...
    1. Website upgrades are looking nice so far - haven't really poked around too much yet, but so far not looking to be as problematic as the great 'upgrade' of 2008. That was 5 years ago. What?
    2. Hey JC, while you're upgrading, please do something about the stark white backgrounds and overblown lighting. I can't tell the difference between most of the popovers.
    3. WTH is up with the sunglasses that the models in 03537 and 29660 are wearing? Is that Photoshop magic? They look like those x-ray specs that Pee-Wee Herman would wear.
    4. While I appreciate the revisit of 2006 prints, I'm largely not a fan of the pieces they're putting them on - mainly because of cost-cutting measures (poufy mini skirts?) with the higher prices. Whatever happened to printed cardigans?
    5. Overall, the new arrivals are pretty 'meh' to me. They'll be half-off with an additional 30% in B&M's by the end of July (but probably still FP online).

As always, love to hear what the JCA's think!

    1. Ugh, yes, let's nix the overblown lighting on the white background stuff. It's so late 2010's Terry Richardson/American Apparel. Now it just looks lazy. Time for a new trend, please.

    2. Bah - "late 00's". You guys know what I meant :-p

  5. Okay, one last thing - the Fall 2013 lookbook is onlne (don't know if it was before) so you can see what's coming up. Remember that these lookbooks are mostly Collection pieces.

    1. Thanks for letting us know. I'm thinking they are too scared to list the prices!

  6. Another new update on the website that I very much do not like... J crew is now charging duty to items shipped to Canada. I could justify the %20 price increase for Canadian customers when I did not have to also pay duty. This now makes it almost impossible to justify. I live a 4 hour plane trip away from the nearest B&M so shopping in store is not a regular option for me. Very disgusted by this change.

    1. I did a mock checkout (I live in Canada) and they credited back the full duty charge. Yay! Here's the message attached:

Please note that some of our products don't incur these costs so this credit may not always be applicable to your purchase or to every item in your cart. 2. I had a issue with the recent ( and still available with certain code) the free shipping and free returns from Canada. Did they not know how $$ are returns are? they credited me $5.95 ! my cost was $28. They are working on fixing it. But ...come on J Crew...they should be better at this by now. Carolyn from Vancouver

    3. hmmm...my understanding of the 20% markup before was that it included the duties-this better not be yet another markup for Canadian customers, because I will cease to be a Canadian customer!!

    4. I'm surprised they *STILL* don't list prices in Canadian dollars. All other stores do.

  9. I noticed that you can add out-of-stock items to your wishlist as well. I had an item in my cart (the Sparkle dot dress) that was out of stock in my size. There was a "save" option next to it, which added it to my wishlist. It is now showing up under an "out of stock" tab in the wishlist. It'll be nice to keep an eye on that for when it becomes available again.

    HOOORAY for the wishlist! Finally!

    ReplyDelete
  10. So nice to finally have a wishlist feature! Hopefully we will get customer reviews and a quick look option in the near future, too. One can always hope! ;)

As far as new arrivals go, there really isn't much that I'm interested in. It's fun to see the Fall/Holiday lookbook, although most of it seems like a repeat of last year to me, only in slightly different colors and prints. The silhouettes are all pretty much the same though.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Nothing terribly exciting with this rollout. I did purchase a pair of Ettas that I have been eye-balling for a while! If they keep this up, I will be able to pay my card off by the time the fall items rollout!

  12. OT, but has anyone tried any of the silk chiffon party/wedding dresses? I'm looking at the silk chiffon Frances or Kylie and wondering if they fit true to size, drape as nicely as seen in the pictures. Anyone had experience with these dresses?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi mamakoh - I tried the Frances in my regular dress size and found the top to be enormous (like, "wardrobe-malfunction" inappropriate), however the skirt flowed nicely. I believe I tried the Louisa as well, which was a much better fit. My only quibble is that both arrived with some snags in the chiffon (I tried navy so they weren't terribly noticeable, but I felt not worth the $200+ I tried them for) and the visibility of the snags may differ by color. I'd totally give them a try with free ship and free returns, though and see what you think.

FYI: It looks like free returns is going on until 6/30/13.

      Delete
    2. Thanks silver lining! The enormity of the Frances is such a bummer! That was at the top of my list. Love the high/low hemline. Def thinking about trying some of these out with the %off going on. Thanks :)

  13. I asked for a dark green pencil skirt last year and here it is! I'm sure I'll order it. I'm going to check out the plaid patchwork popover in the store. That's all I see in this rollout that I'm interested in. I like the new format. But I agree....those stark white backdrops don't help sell the items.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Has anyone figured out the "last 2 weeks" and "last 4 weeks" options on the sale page? (At the bottom of the LH column.) Is that a way to hone in on new(ish) sale items?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Good catch! I think you are correct - probably the new items that have been added to the sale section.

I saw the parrot pendant necklace in the store yesterday and it's cute. My B&M had both of the rose necklaces too (white & red).

      Delete
  15. On first glance, meh. I like the stripe peplum top but that's about it. All of the new colors of shoes/skirts read fall to me (academic green, suede Ettas, etc.) I'd prefer that green color in a wool pencil!

I like the new product page layout where you can see what sizes are available in what colors without having to go through the size drop down. Also, excited to see the wishlist and will be interested to see how it works - I wonder if you add a sold out item if it lets you know when the item is available or at least make it easier to see popbacks(ha, probably wishful thinking).

I wish you could sort sale items by newly listed, etc. The last 2 week/4 week tab seems to be a start in that direction.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I like that pineapple skirt but $168 for a mini skirt is quite a bit, even with the promo. There's too many short sleeve button downs for my taste in this rollout. Also, The pictures of the linen tees are deceiving, the ones I saw in my B&M were super sheer. I've bought plenty with the super sale in the stores last week, I'll just be surfing the pop back wave for a few pieces but nothing I need to have in this new rollout.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I loved the Collection dot foulard dress, but I'm going to try to see if the price point comes down in a few weeks. It seems to be selling out though!

Also, I'm really intrigued by some of the pants in the fall/holiday look book. I'm looking for more of the silk/elastic waist style pants (that do not have the harem style dropped crotch look lol) and it seems that they had one or two pairs in various colors (there was an orange pair and i think maybe a navy pair).

Hopefully they wont be out of this world expensive, but if they're collection pieces, I can probably assume they will be.

  19. Definitely glad to see a wishlist, and I like that you can now see what sizes are in stock without having to select from the drop-down list. The Pineapple Skirt is cute, so I bought that and a pair of replacement chino shorts (why don't they make black shorts anymore?), but not much else in the new arrivals caught my eye. Fuller skirts are usually a hit-or-miss for me, so we'll see if the Pineapple Skirt is a keeper. I agree with Silver_Lining above that they need to bring back the printed cardigans!

  20. The wishlist counter is dead!

Celebration, flying pigs and highlights of our desire in the p.s. of this post.

Not really thinking about anything from this rollout except a pair of earrings. My mind is entertaining thoughts of Nordstrom's Anniversary sale which will be next month already.

    3. YAY, WISHLIST! *does the happy dance*

I just moved all the things stored in my cart to my list! The fact that you can add out-of-stock items to the wishlist even puts JCrew a step ahead of other online retailers.

  21. Like silver lining noted above, the "remakes" of older prints are not amusing. The "new" pineapple skirt is $168 and is a mini. The old one was knee length and probably not that expensive. So, more fabric, lower price. Hmmm. Honestly, how many people can/want to wear a poufy mini skirt?

The "collection" pineapple dress also really gets me. $250? WTF? Why couldn't they have made it in a nice cotton and charged $150? But wait, that would have highlighted how overpriced the skirt is. Nevermind.

I didn't even like the pineapple print that much the first time around, so why they brought it back and put it on impractical, overpriced items is beyond me. Same with the regatta print. It just isn't that cute, especially compared to the many other spectacular prints JC has done in the past. Whoever is making these design choices must be living in la la land.

    ReplyDelete
  22. This is going to sound totally silly, but I'm kind of mad they brought back the pineapple skirt. I own the original from 2006, and now it somehow seems...less special. And I'm also mad because now I want it in both lengths!

To me, the problem with reissuing old favorites is that the quality is just not the same, and it makes it more difficult to find the original pieces on eBay. I only own one Bella, and would LOVE to get more, but in 2007 their jackets fit me like a glove, and now they're kind of limp and boxy (on me at least). Guess I'll have to troll eBay before a reissue comes out!

  23. I love the new wish list myself and actually like the product layout. I didn't find too many new things I needed to have in this rollout but I do like the shortsleeve stripe popover and skinny utility chino. I had a pair of the trouper pant from 2010 but unfortunately, they were spotted with bleach so out they went. This new pair is very similar and I loved the fit so I'll bite on these. I have in the wish list the eyelet peasant top, desert floral racer and linen botanical. On the line on the pineapple skirt. Overall, I HATE the July catalog. Blah.
I also looked at the Fall/Holiday look book. Some nice "do-able" looks but it looks very pricey IMP.

  24. I do really like the new design of the individual product pages. I don't have to rollover the description to see the whole thing (never understood that), and I can see the size availability at a glance, too. Much more elegant look overall. Can't comment on the functionality, though, as I order everything through my VPS.

  25. OT, but just received my early access email for J.Crew Factory so it looks like new arrivals will be up online tomorrow. Looks like a smaller rollout as well from looking quickly. I'm headed up to the Factory store tonight so will be interested to see the new arrivals in person.

    1. shopmurphy - my J Crew Factory email included codes for 10% off of $75+ & 20% off $125+. And they said everything is 40% off, priced as marked.

They did the Spanish dancers do the splits top, but in poly. It was really called the silk dervish, review here. I might be able to overlook the poly, but the sleeve length would probably still be too long.

    2. Was excited to see this top until I saw the fabric content. Not interested in a polyester top but the colors are gorgeous. Went back and read your review again just for giggles, too!

  26. I got my July 3013 catalog in the mail last night. Couple of items appealed to me, Collection Stripe Sweater and the Colorblock bracelet. But not willing to pay FP and so will wait for sale price with promo. I did like the catalog, the model was very upbeat and cheeky and seemed like she really enjoyed herself. This summer has been not much of a winner for me, maybe if the model is the age group J Crew is looking for I am 30 years too old. Like Straycat mentioned, I have been shopping my own closet and mixing with some new items. But I love some of their more classic items, the floral/fruit prints this year are not my style.

  28. Three cheers for the improved website functionality and the wish list, but I couldn't get it to work this morning!

Nothing in this rollout is really calling to me and the style guide was meh, but it was fun to get a preview of fall in the Look Book. I know the looks shown are not going to be representative of the fall line overall but PLEASE somebody reassure me that there will be more pant options than more capris and baggy-crotch cigarette styles ...

    ReplyDelete
  29. @gigi, I guess it would help if I had read my entire email! I also received the codes, was just too excited to click the link! Thanks for keeping me honest :) I wish the codes were good in store since I'm going tonight...I wonder if they'd honor the discount in store?

  30. Really like the new product page layout and wishlist option. I am still hoping for a rollover zoom feature! The fact that you have to click and open a new window just to see the fabric or pattern makes me crazy. Almost every other online retailer I shop has implemented this.

I am interested by the Skinny Chino, the Chambray Popover, and the Merino Boyfriend sweater in the new fall-y tones.

I also am getting excited about Nordstrom Anniversary sale, as was mentioned above!

  33. Why is J Crew not doing casual knit/jersey summer dresses this year? Last summer, I got so many cute casual dresses which I spent my summer in. So far I have seen maybe 3 dresses that fits the bill. Every dress is a maxi dress or a structured dress. I don't know what to do!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They've got the Villa dresses and the Ponte Knit dresses, plus the cover-up kind with the seahorses etc, but I don't care for any of them. I have enough cover-ups, the Villa dress is cut weirdly on the upper body, and the Ponte Knit dresses are thick and tight fitting and aren't cool in the heat. I'm with you, where are the casual dresses, the ones that aren't mini length?

      Delete
    2. That is exactly what I have been waiting for. Or ones that aren't tunic length.

      Delete
    3. I've been waiting for those too, I liked the seahorse dress but it was a swimsuit coverup and too sheer for everyday use. They had so many great knit dresses last year but almost nothing this year. I bought two of the rugby stripe dresses on super sale this year and really like them. I'm not sure who J. Crew thinks their clientele is but we're not all out parading in cashmere and tailored dresses in the summer. Thankfully Lilly Pulitzer does a fantastic job of cute prints and casual dresses so I've been filling the void there.

      Delete
    4. I was waiting for dresses too. I ended up finding some casual, cute linen dresses at J.Jill. I don't usually shop there, but the dress selection was pretty good and they have petite sizes.

  34. The new arrivals are definitely not doing it for me. Don't like the Mai Tai print at all.

Looked at the fall preview, and it was way over stylized. And only one pair of full length trousers in the bunch. Sigh.

    4. I agree about the armholes Rose. I preordered this tank in a S during a promo and need to retry with a racerback tank and bra before I make my decision about going down to a size XS. The hawaiian tank was perfect in an XS but I fear that the banana one may be too short if i size down.

    1. Hi LilyBart. I have the pink/black version of the tartine bag and I love it. I just dragged it overseas on 4 flights, shoving it under seats etc., carrying it through airports, restaurants, on the floor of trains, taxi's, cars, etc. On the flight from Paris to Atlanta, our flight attendant wanted to give my bag it's own seat! LOL She was crazy about it. It still looks new. No scratches. I even shoved it into my suitcase for some travel, carrying a crossbody bag instead. The only problem is with the detachable shoulder strap - it comes undone easily. That was a disappointment as I needed it while I was pushing my suitcases around, lol.

  44. I think this new style guide is underwhelming for a variety of reasons. It's hard to get excited about a rollout where much of the items have been in store for weeks. The Carrie dot dress, for example, has been in store since May 23rd. Many of the looks in the freshly printed style guide seem like old news already. I kinda miss the days of the big rollout and coresponding catalog release.

Part of the copy reads... it's crafted from a slightly sheer blend of cotton and silk in an easy, oversize tent shape that works for day or night"...an oversize tent shape is an odd way to describe a top that would be even remotely flattering. TIA!

    1. I was just looking at that in store. It is definitely bright but not neon. I didn't try it on, so can't speak to the tent qualities. The black was very sheer, IMO. I thought the neon rose was less sheer than the black. I looked at the tag and can't recall exact percentages but it was roughly 50 silk, 50 cotton (more like 40-something/50-something). The body/torso seems to be the silk, maybe the eyelet was cotton? or maybe it's a cotton/silk blend? It will probably drape better than if it were 100% cotton.

    2. I bought the peasant top in the store this week in neon rose.color .I sized down one size than my normal Jcrew size. The neon rose is a bright coral color not neon and I think the the top is cute if you size down .I don't think it looks like a tent ! I hope this helps!

    3. I agree it's a pretty, bright coral and NOT neon at all. It looks modern and summery.... and won't cause bad '80s flashbacks. :)

  50. I just received the new catalog and well....I'm trying to think of something nice to say. Oh...I like the men's clothes and the model is particularly easy on the eyes. So...I'd say this roll out if my least favorite...ever. I don't like the prints except for the orange paisley which is only available in swimsuits, very tiny shorts and a pair of flats. I don't like the model (especially the pose on page 005....NOT just page 5...page 005...how pretentious) and the item pairings are either rehashes of old looks or just plain ugly. As much as I love chickens (not to eat...I'm a vegan) I don't get the random chicken. I would get "it" if the chicken appeared in every picture. And the skirt with the raffia strips circling it is just plain silly. It feels like the Crew team is running out of new ideas. I've only been a serious customer for a couple of years and my interest has already been waning for a couple of seasons. I just don't feel I'm the target customer. Too old, too classic, not trendy enough. I will probably get the no.2 pencil in the new green color. But I'm hoping they will make it in the longer version...cause I'm also too tall.

  51. Just noticed that the new green no.2 has been updated and is longer. Yah!

  52. Off topic but does anyone have one of J. Crew's iPhone battery backup chargers? What do you think of them? Thanks!

    1. They are wonderful! Works in an iPad, also. I gave quite a few of them as gifts during the holidays. Once charged, it holds its charge until you need to use it.

    2. Thank you Steph! I am surprised it holds the charge until you need to use it, that is great. Would it hold it for a day, a week, longer, do you think?

    3. Thanks too Steph. I bought one for when I travel but have not used it yet.

    4. I agree with Steph they are great. I bought a few during the holidays as gifts too. I recently bought 2 more since they where all of $8 in store. Only problem is that they were only for IPhone 3's & 4's. Not sure if they decided to make them for 5's.

    5. Thanks miniemousemiami! That is a great price, I have not seen them selling for so little. We don't have an iPhone 5 yet but you make a good point. Eventually I guess we'll have a 5 (I am always late to get the latest!). I hope J. Crew will make these for that too. I wish Apple wasn't going to change the interface, that is annoying.

  53. A favour: If anyone sees/has seen the Toothpick jeans in Basket Weave, I would love to hear your thoughts on them.
Do they run TTS? Is the fabric textured or smooth?
They almost look like the tweed fabric that J Crew used for a pencil skirt last year.... the caribbean tweed was it? Or am I going mad?!

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Hi! I bought them yesterday while checking out the new collection- the fabric is smooth! They are a little bit darker in person- more of a navy. I took my usual toothpick size even though they were a bit tight- my vps promised they would stretch. Hope this helps!

    2. Thanks Alex! good to hear that they're dark blue - they sound lovely.
I might give them a go!
