This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this
post) says it best, "You know, that thing you
bought because you love it and you keep pulling it
out and then putting it away without wearing it?"
Please
share your J.Crew item (either that you own or
are thinking about getting) that you would love help
creating an outfit with.
Also,
please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel
free to include links to your blog (where you
incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you
showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance!
:)
New promo - SUMMER30 gets 30% off sale items thru Sun, 6/30. Also good in-store. Curious to see if it will be final sale in-store.
ReplyDeleteThis may be the last, or next to last extra % off sale before dreaded final sale comes back. It usually happens the first week of July - last year it was July 6th, so if history repeats itself, it may happen at some point next week.
DeleteIn 2011 it was actually back on June 30th.
DeleteI should have specified that those dates were for online and not in store.
DeleteI would love some styling ideas for the neon tipped seersucker cafe capris in red current. Anyone?
ReplyDeleteHere's a polyvore set with current items -
DeleteHTH some!
Wow Paula! I was hoping for 1 suggestion and you gave me a whole wardrobe! After all of the great promos lately, I have at least 6 of the pieces listed, some similar baaics and several other of these Jcrew items on my wish list. Can't wait to go go home and try some of them out. Thanks so much!
DeleteGlad I could help, it was fun to put together :) but dangerous because now I want those pants! Hope you found some things that worked IRL.
DeleteThey are marked down to $39.99 before the extra 30% so they are an awfully good deal!
DeleteJ.Crew sent out an email this morning with a link to the Fall/Holiday 2013 Lookbook with the opportunity to pre-order the styles. I took screenshots of the new styles, and I'm happy to send them to anyone who didn't receive the email - contact me at innisfree3791@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get my email link to work on my mobile. It just sends me to the jcrew site home page. Is there a secret to making it work? Maybe they know I would just be looking and not ordering:)
DeleteShoppingCelle, if they knew that, they probably wouldn't have sent it to me, either! :) I don't know how to make the email link work if it's redirecting; if you can copy the link location, you might try pasting it in the address bar rather than clicking the link.
DeleteI had the same problem on my phone but the link worked when I looked at it on my computer.
DeleteI was considering pre-ordering something, but I'd rather not call and do it through a VPS. Is there no way to pre-order using the web site?
DeleteWell i called. The VPS I talked to was very nice and helpful, but the items I got prices for ranged from $350-$648, with one exception (a sweater in look 2 costs $238). These are ballpark prices, but probably close to what they will be. I didn't order anything. You can't even see half of the items in the pictures because there is only one shot of each, often covered up by a scarf or a coat. I can't see shelling out $350+ for something I can't even see a full view of.
DeleteI initially thought that I had received the email in error since I rarely shop full price and Collection pieces are usually out of my price range, even on sale. So when I clicked on the email and was redirected back to the website, I just thought that maybe I wasn't that special. I had already looked at the link on the website but was hoping to see the clothes (mostly the shoes) a little closer. Sounds like the prices are still way outside of my league!
DeleteShoppingCelle if you open up jcrew.com then at the bottom hit "full site" then reopen the email link it'll open on your mobile phone. HTH
DeleteThanks Melissa. That idea worked.
DeleteI am debating whether to keep the Cafe Capri in Silk Foulard (color: Anastasia's Flowers). Item 46081.

Here it is on Gigi's blog. Big on her too!

I got for a great price - but I am unsure how to style it or how seasonal it is.
I am in love with the fabric. It is
I am 5-2 so it is not really capri on me - more like ankle length. It is a little loose in the thigh but the hips fit nicely and it looks great from the side. I suspect I will have to get it tailored a bit to get a perfect fit and cannot do so until I am finished with this pregnancy in September. I am wondering if they pinned it on the model - it looks lkke a slim leg but in reality it is not!
I wish I had a tailor I could trust.
I can't figure out how to style it except for cream or pink on top - maybe even yellow or pale blue on top. All of those colors are in the print. I have no idea what shoes to wear with it either. The way it currently fits, I need to wear low heels for it to be flattering. Flats make the legs look even worse.
Do you think this can be easily slimmed so it looks like it does on the model. My thighs are not model-slim but the legs are huge on me!
Hi Flower Power, WMM had a post on these and she had lots of great styling ideas (some with colors I wouldn't have thought of but they looked great), but for the life of me I cannot find the post. Maybe someone else can locate it.
DeleteHi Flower Power, I bought the Café capri in gilded dot brocade, and I LOVE them! I've worn mine with the chambray Tilda jeweled collar, also the cream colored Blyth blouse ( it was a dressy occasion, played it safe). I just ordered the Collection café capri in metallic foulard, not sure what I'm going to wear with these! I also bought the Tory Burch Lola pants which are also a brocade, you can check out my look here http://www.pixseestyle.com/2013/03/
DeleteHi Flower Power - here is the link - I have also worn it with a chambray shirt, the blush linen T (at Gigi's recc), a grey tshirt. I think silver would look amazing as well. Funny - I was thinking of slimming mine down a bit, too!

Looking for some advice re: pairing jewelry - I'm attending a wedding this weekend and am planning on wearing the crystal floral statement necklace (link here)
ReplyDeletewith the bright pink Lucille dress from last year. My question is - what other jewelry can I get away with? The necklace is such a statement piece, I don't want to be crazy jewelry lady but I was thinking just my regular diamond studs and maybe a bracelet? I feel empty with bare arms! Thoughts? TIA :)
shopmurphy: I think the idea of studs and a small bracelet is perfect. The necklace will be the focal point so keep everything else simple and understated. Have fun! Your outfit sounds lovely! :)
DeleteFFM, thanks for the feedback! I've been waiting to wear this outfit for weeks :)
DeleteSome OOTDs on my blog. Please scroll down.
ReplyDeleteAlso forgot to add that the B&M local stores have 40% off sale items starting today.
ReplyDeleteRose, is the 40% for Canada?
DeleteGigi, the store I visited today was additional 30% off sale items, final sale. I'm in Chicago.
Delete30 percent off in New Jersey -- went today.
DeleteEducator discount can be stacked.
Yes, gigi.
DeleteTrying to decide whether to keep the Biennial Hobo Cutout handbag. I got it on sale plus 30% off, but it's still pricey. Does anyone have this? Do you think it's too much limited to summer use? And what do you think of the size? Do you use the long strap to wear it cross-body? or is it too big for that? Do you find the 3 compartments useful or annoying?
ReplyDeleteIf you don't have this particular bag but have another Biennial Hobo, I'd love to hear your opinion on it. Thanks!
Hi cate. I don't have the cutout version, but I do have the blue sea (navy) one. I generally sling it over my shoulder, but it does work cross body too. I am 5'9" so I don't consider any bag too big for me, really. But this one especially does not overwhelm.
DeleteAs for the three compartments, they are useful, but I kept all of my frequent use items in the big middle compartment. I used the side ones for things like my checkbook, extra pens/lip gloss, and other items that are used infrequently, as well as items that needed to be more secure like my passport.
I really like the bag, personally! I hope that is somewhat helpful. And I do really like the cutout version, and would use it most of the year, not just in the summer. The leather fabrication (as opposed to something like straw) makes it versatile!
J.CrewJD, thanks so much for the review, that helps a lot! I usually carry a small cross-body bag, so this would be a big change for me. It is very spacious. I'm not sure what I would do with all that space, but I am smitten with the bag for some reason. I like the solid colors too, one day I had 3 colors of them in my cart lol (but didn't check out). So I guess I've been wanting to try this style. Thanks :)
DeleteIf you're shopping in-store, check out the In-Store Price Guide for yesterday's cuts. At the top.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if someone commented on the silk popover in stripe, but the cobalt blue shipped to me at $30 from the Mall of America Jcrew.
DeleteGigi - Thank you for the in store sale price for the Crystal Compilation Necklace. It is no longer available in both stores in my area but my in store VPS was able to order it for me online using the in store price of $99.99 plus 30% off.
DeleteUnknown - I have the last price of the stripe silk popover at $39.99 in-store (cobalt), so I'm guessing you got the addtl 25% off. Good score!
DeleteSally A - Glad you saw it & yay! It's a beautiful necklace.
Posted this in the 'love' post, but sharing here too. A bit off-topic-sorry!
ReplyDeleteMadewell=extra 40% off sale with EXTRAEXTRA until Monday; you can also use the $100 gift card from Refinery29.com (purchase for $60) for some great deals. I resisted, but ended up buying :( Got a coral denim jacket, white color fleck sweater and a cute white belt for $0.60 after the GC. Not too shabby! :)
Hello JCrew Lovers . . . What would you pair with a strapless Coral above-the-knee silk dress? I want to wear it to a Wedding? I was thinking a necklace and obviously shoes but what are you thoughts? and do you have any specific finds :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I think lots of pearls would be beautiful...Enjoy! :)
DeleteJackie - I think some nude shoes that mostly blend in with your feet will keep focus on the pretty coral. Have fun :)
DeletePale gold sandals, and a statement necklace that doesn't fight with the coral, maybe something with white and gold? Or you can do pearls and carry a fun clutch.
DeleteWow thank you girls! (P.S. How do I know when I get a reply? I had to look and find my post?)
DeleteAnother update to the In-Store Price Notes:
ReplyDeleteCoraline patent pumps, Janey patent flats (neons are $69.99 for sure), navy boardwalk skirt, stripe boardwalk skirt, summerweight boyfriend sweatshirt, all thistle print tops ($59.99)
