This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So
if you have recently purchased,
or stopped by a J.Crew store to try
on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you
might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In
particular, if you could
mention a few of the noteworthy
details like fit, size, fabric, and the
like— that would be fantastic! Thanks
in advance! :)
Some reviews here.
ReplyDeleteReview of the piped foulard shirt. $69.99 online vs $39.99 in-store.
ReplyDeletereview of the stripe drawstring dress http://jscrewed.blogspot.jp/
ReplyDeleteReview of the sequin cluster tee,the silk trim maxi and the camille dress here.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone, I posted a review of the grey/ivory Jersey Striped Maxiskirt and the grey/ivory Vintage Cotton Tank in Block Stripe here today. I'm a fan of both. The maxiskirt runs TTS and the tank runs a size big.
ReplyDeleteReviews of some pants and sweaters here
ReplyDeleteOther new arrivals including striped silk dress here
LIberty Popover in Floral Eve here
Real life photos of yellow Tippi sweater, No. 2 pencil skirt in polka dot jacquard (navy ivory) and the Heather-stripe sweaters in cobalt vanilla and rose white here on my blog.
ReplyDeleteThis is completely off topic, but I ordered two liberty print dresses yesterday from Lord and Taylor, and they are being delivered today. Now that's service! I spent over $99 so I got free shipping, too. I guess they don't downgrade to smartpost!
ReplyDeleteI ordered this and this.
Since J.Crew refuses to make adorable dresses in the liberty prints (except in girls sizes, so unfair), I will go elsewhere! I will try to review them soon. I did try on the first one in store, there was a random 10 that someone returned, and based on that I ordered my normal 6.
L&T has an extra 25% off right now, too, making them reasonably priced.
Oops, my first link didn't work. It's this one.
DeleteThey also have some adorable Liberty shoes - type "liberty" in the search box to see everything. Those run large, size down half a size. I could wear a 9.5 in the flats and I am certainly not a 9.5! A 10 in J.Crew is usually too small.
Please do a review of the Lord and Taylor Liberty items. I love the prints!
DeleteHi Rosie! Both dresses ran large, so I had to return them :( The "floral print cotton a-line" is cute, but very casual and unlined and not fitted at all. Cute for knocking around, but not super flattering. I still liked it, but it was simply too big.
DeleteThe paisley print was a winner, even though it was too big. Mind you, I cannot squeeze into any of my size 4 J.Crew dresses right now and the 6 in this dress was way too big all over. It is super high quality, well made, not high waisted, and fully lined. I highly recommend it, just size down!
I also tried one of the liberty shirtdresses that someone had returned, and it was borderline too small in a 6. Go figure!!!
The liberty shirtdress was also fully lined, BTW.
Delete2nd cuts to J Crew items on Net-A-Porter. Info added to the top of my foulard post.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gigi. I got so excited that the Nolita was on sale for $64 on Net A Porter but unfortunately all sizes sold out except Large.
Deletethank you! I had been waiting for the windowpane check capris in fuchsia to drop in price. I own the tan ones and love them!
DeleteJRSConifer - We might we the Nolita on promo again +30% on jcrew.com. I'd keep a hopeful eye.
Deletekms423 - I was scared of the windopane checks, but I can see tan working really well. Yay if you got the fuchsia, plus free shipping both ways.
Thanks Gigi. I ended up with the Gap version, hard to beat for 40% off, plus used a $10 reward. But would like the Nolita at some point.
DeleteThe Nolita is on a new promo for 40% off online. Prices haven't changed just yet (10p PST), but should shortly. I reviewed it in this post.
DeleteI got the ROPE-TRIM STRIPE JACKET with the last promo. The jacket fits TTS - I take a 2 in the schoolboy and took a 2 in this as well. The fit is boxy but cute. It has raglan sleeves, which I'm not usually much of a fan of but they work on this jacket. The fabric is very unique with a nice texture on the ivory part. The rope trim is very cute - I couldn't tell from the website pic but the rope does have some flecks of turquoise blue in it as well. I'm very happy with this purchase; I really like when J. Crew does unique items like this.
ReplyDeleteI order the Elsa piped sandals in metallic in a 8.5 and 9 and they both fit exactly the same. I even held them up to one another and they are the same size. Has this happened to anyone before?
ReplyDeleteStripe Chambray Popover. Really cute! It is standard popover fare, usual fit. Not lightweight but not heavy. I tried it on with an in-store statement-y style necklace that is a chambray blue color too and they were great together.
ReplyDeletePainter Tee in Colorblock in Heather Oatmeal Navy. I sized up for a slouchier fit, but I think most people would prefer their normal J. Crew tee size. I don't know why but I really love this. It's not quite a baseball-style tee but it has that vibe. The material is really soft and the body color is not see-through (that I can tell, anyway).
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried the Linen Anchor Pocket Tee (Navy)? Kind of interested because it's navy and not yet another sheer white linen tee, but I am not sure if I'll like the anchor or the fit.
ReplyDeletePilar glitter sandal - love them but going back because still too expensive for what they are. Footbed is padded and the glitter is just enough. I am typically an 8 or 8.5, ordered the 8 and they were fine but would want to try the 8.5 for comparison. Straps are a touch tight but would definitely stretch with wear. I have a narrowish foot though. Overall, I think they are adorable but still not worth the price I paid (full minus 30%). This might be one of those returns I regret though!
ReplyDeleteI reviewed the Martina suede wedges in bright pomegranate here
ReplyDeleteA couple reviews from over the weekend:
ReplyDeleteTartine purse: Cute, small. Odd length strap with possibly unreliable hardware? here are those pics
and some tops:
Chambray Dot Peasant Top - I didn’t expect to like this because the shape is usually overwhelming on me, but the light color and the subtle dots went perfectly with it. Still expensive and a pass. those fit pics
Short Sleeve Summerweight Boyfriend Sweatshirt - This is the one I really wanted! Online it says that its supposed to have an oversized fit, so I sized down to an xxs. Its perfect. I love it. I want it to go on sale so I can get it. The fabric is wonderful and makes me feel happy and cozy. Here are those fit pics
Accordian Pleat Top in Colorblock - Eh, not a fan. The top is nice and comfy in an xxs, but isn’t too flattering. I’m wearing a black bra and I can see it. I’d probably wear a tank under this one because I think you’d still see a nude bra. A pass for me for sure. Here are those fit pics, please ignore the black bra
I have wondered about the Tartine purse. It looks cute but I don't think I could fit my small wristlet + keys + phone + checkbook + sunglasses in it.
DeleteAnyone try the pineapple linen tee yet? The description implies a slimmer cut than the other linen tees this season...
ReplyDeleteI didn't try it, but saw a stack folded on a table. Super cute, but I put my hand inside the shirt, and it seemed almost sheer, so I deemed it a no-go. It is too hot here in the summer to wear camis, IMO.
DeleteI did and the cut is slimmer. It is way way sheer.
DeleteAgreed - very cute little gold pineapples but completely sheer. Seems every light colored top I try from JC is see through lately. Fail!
DeleteI haven't really tried the other linen tees at J.Crew this season, but I didn't find the cut of this tee particularly slim. It fit like most other tees I've gotten from J.Crew.
DeleteThanks guys! I don't mind sheer-ish, actually, but wouldn't want both sheer and tight!

ReplyDeleteThe Collection Ratti shimmer silk mini is see-through! Come on now. This is ridiculous. How can a lined skirt be indecent? I love the fabric. It looks like tinsel (would be great come holiday time) but I'd definitely need a slip to stay modest. It's going back because it's so not worth the price (full-30%). Fits true to size and is all of 18" long.
ReplyDeleteOh and the Silk Colorblock cami is also sheer. What a waste!
DeleteI don't understand J. Crew's recent affinity for sheer clothes.
Delete@cate, ITA!! Every time I try on something sheer (& that's often and not just limited to JC), I can't help but think of the story "The Emperor's New Clothes". It's crazy to me. Why do I have to spend $90 for a blouse I have to find another top to put underneath.
DeleteDitto on not liking the sheer clothing. It has helped counteract the Crewlade with several tops recently. My store had some killer deals on some great silk blouses yesterday (tipped ones and the white popover with blue stripes), but I'm boycotting clothes that require another layer this summmer.
DeleteHi everyone! How are the bootcut jeans sized? For example, if I take a 24 in the garment-dyed, toothpick, could I take a 24 in the bottcuts? 24 toothpick dark denim was a tad tight on me, so I was thinking to go with the 25, but dark denim stretches.
ReplyDeletePregnant now so I have to guess.
Thanks
Hi Flower Power! Based on what I bought this year, you should size down from your toothpick size for the bootcut or matchstick jeans. HTH! BTW, congratulations on your pregnancy.....I'm pregnant too ;)
ReplyDeleteWater-ski Girls silk tank - Print is sweet, black, red and neon yellow against an ivory background. It is lined and not at all sheer. My regular size 0 was too tight across the chest (I'm a 32AA) and under the arms. I'm hoping to exchange it for a 2, but I see they are out of stock on-line.
ReplyDeleteStripe sleeveless top in black - Fit is tts to slightly large across the shoulders in my usual size. It has a straight, boxy fit. You may be able to size down. Sheer, so I will probably wear a nude silk cami underneath. Fabric definitely has a gauze texture to it. I love the black with the tan/khaki stripes.
I'm a little annoyed at the JC sizing, one top is a little too small and the other is a little too big. I sound like Goldilocks.
Has anyone tried the bikinis this year? The punk floral swimwear was reduced this morning. I got the bandeau top in my regular size but the bikini bottom was not available in XS so I ordered a S to try since it isn't final sale (yet). Am I going to be swimming (haha - pun!) in the bikini bottom? I usually wear size 0, 25/26 in J Crew pants.
ReplyDeleteHi shopalot! I own several bikinis from this year and always order a size XS in the bottoms, too. I did try one in a size small when the xsmall was unavailable, but ended up returning it because it felt a bit loose, and I was concerned that it would slip when I'm in the water. Plus the suits usually end up stretching out over time, so then it would be extra loose. I would suggest trying to catch the XS on popback and ask CS to do an even exchange with free shipping on it for you if at all possible. HTH! :)
DeleteThank you so much for the very helpful sizing feedback. Had a feeling the size S wasn't going to work. Back in the days before vanity sizing I did wear size S in the bikini separates but now there is XXS! I will definitely be watching for a pop back.
DeleteI was hoping for some advice on the swoop dress. I tried a size 6 on in store and it was very loose but they didn't have a 4 to try. I was wondering if this dress runs a little large--as I usually wear a 6. I'm a little hesitant to order a size 4. TIA!
ReplyDeleteAD MD - I felt that the swoop top & dress ran TTS. If you size down, you will lose length and it might get a little tight at the hip or under the arm/across the chest. I think that the swoop has extra material in that area, but not enough to size down. Just my opinion.
DeleteI’ve only made one purchase lately and it has been the space-dyed tee in black/white. I love this tee and have already worn it several times. I did discover this weekend it also comes in a baby blue/white version, but the black version works so nicely for work and play. I found it tts and it is longer in length than most tees lately…hooray!! It is 100% cotton too, so I can wear it year around here. I hope this shirt holds up because I can see it in my closet for awhile. Is is sad that I'm this excited over a somewhat simple black and white tee? :)
ReplyDeleteNo, not sad! I love that tee, too. All cotton, not sheer and not short and wide. Did not know it came in another color -- will keep my eyes open for that.
DeleteCan anyone provide style number and is this in store only tee? I don't see online. TIA!
DeleteMy store actually had the blue one separated from the black one, so that’s why I missed it the first time. It was folded with all the vintage cotton shirts. It is an in-store only color right now. I’m hoping we get another % off full price items so I can get it.
Deletebug pin, here is the link: http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/knitstees/shortsleevetees/PRDOVR~01222/01222.jsp
DeleteStyle # is 01222.
Sorry, reply isn't working for me right now. The space dyed t-shirt is item no. 01222.
ReplyDeletePopover in bar stripe: this fits TTS for popovers for me. I find the popovers to be a little boxy at the bottom, wish they were more slim. I love the summery colors in this popover and the cotton is sturdy and soft.
ReplyDeleteI'm copying Gigi and pairing it with pink/neon azalea. I got the neon azalea bangle on pop back and am really copying Gigi by wearing it with the popover. :)
jan - copy away! lol I think the bangle popback was a goodie. I throw the neon azalea one on a lot.
DeleteA review of the stripe linen blazer now $89.99 in-store, at the bottom of this post. A surprise thumbs up.
