Plus, Madewell posted a few sneak peeks into their Fall 2013 collection. The following are just some of the looks slated for later this year.
*Why are short shorts paired with a heavy winter coat and turtleneck? Really?!?
Unfortunately, I am not too impressed by what I see so far. Which is disappointing, because the Fall Collections from Madewell (& J.Crew) tend to be my favorite of the year. The color scheme and styles shown in Madewell's sneak peek all seem a bit "too drab" for me. Hopefully Madewell will have a few more items up their sleeve later this year that are a little more exciting.
Will you be checking out Madewell? Did you already pick up an item or two? What are your thoughts on the upcoming Fall Collection? Please share!
I actually really like it! But more for the styling than the actual pieces. I love how wearable it is and the laid-back vibe is exactly how I like to dress, plus I can recreate it with pieces I actually own. So, while I love it, it won't do Madewell much good because I won't actually be buying anything..
ReplyDeleteBut perhaps people prefer the crazy mismatched toddler-esque styling of last year's fall lookbook?
I totally agree, Rebekah!
DeleteI actually really like it too. It's so much more my style than the loud clashing color/pattern stuff that's been at JC lately. It seems less fussy and infantile as Rebekah mentioned above. I can't say there are tons of pieces I'm drooling over, but I love the leather leggings. They probably cost like $800, though.
ReplyDeleteNo, thanks. 95 here today. Just looking at this stuff makes me feel HOT! I want to enjoy my favorite season summer. Wouldn't wear winter clothing here until December at least:0
ReplyDeleteI like the striped skirt, one of the coats and the red skirt. Overall, I prefer what I am seeing here to any of the outfits in the JCrew fall show. Also, I have been delighted with all the Madewell pieces I have purchased in the past.
ReplyDeleteI purchased some of their sweaters this Fall and I was really pleased by the quality and fit. Although Madewell targets a younger crowd, which I'm not a part of, I still wish the skirts and dresses were longer.
ReplyDeleteI like parts of it! It seems simple to reproduce these looks with items I have already. Anyway....Does J. Crew do 40% off ever? I can't remember from last year if they did a 40% off sale during the summer? TIA!
ReplyDeleteHi StrayCat - they've done 40% off before at the tail end of a season when they've really got to dump merchandise, but usually it's the end of winter. However, given the nonstop 30% they've been doing lately, I wouldn't be surprised if a 40% off sale is in store in the future.
DeleteThanks silver lining! They should do a 40% NOW...hee! The sales sections are much larger than the regular priced stuff...well, nothing is full priced anymore. I wonder why the Crew just doesn't start out with lower prices? There sure is alot of time and energy wasted on playing the pricing guessing game.
DeleteI spied a pair of Jeff Spicoli kicks in the fifth picture down... I wonder if they're going to be doing a big Vans collab for fall.
ReplyDeleteAgree - I like it! The looks are wearable for real life, and the touches of leather etc. give it a bit of sophistication vs. some of J. crew's neon and pattern mixing and sequins that can read clownish.
ReplyDeleteI like these looks, too - more relatable for me than the JC Little Edie/twigs-in-the-hair cockamamie getups from a couple Fall seasons ago.
ReplyDeleteI see that Madewell hasn't had to do the perpetual 30% off this year that JC has. Bummer for me, but good for them. They seem to be less confused than JC. Do they ever send out coupon codes? I'm on their mailing list and order a piece every once in a while but never get any codes. :/
I've been waiting for a % off promo or coupon code, too. I miss the promos they had last year. It has saved me money, though. I rarely buy anything from them full price and I won't buy final sale items.
Deletemaryeb, I feel the same way. No FS for me (see avatar, ha!) and I don't have a Madewell B&M near me to make returns so I'm very choosy about what I order. I've had a few pieces in my cart for what feels like forever. Just waiting for a code!
DeleteNo Madewell in Portland either. I don't know their sizing well enough to order anything besides a scarf or other "no size" item. I like their look, but I'm too old for most of it. If I were 30 years younger I'd go for it!
DeleteThanks everyone for sharing your thoughts on the upcoming collection. :) I guess I am in the minority when it comes to these styles! Which is at least good for my wallet this Fall. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for providing the photos, Alexis. Is there a link to their Fall preview? I don't see it on their home page.
DeleteActually, I had the same reaction as you, Alexis. Very underwhelmed. It's not that I hate the looks, per se, but sneak peaks of a new collection are supposed to excite you, and these don't.
Deletemaryeb: Madewell posted these photos (and a few more for a total of 23) on their Facebook page. :)
DeleteLark: That is exactly how I felt! I didn't hate them perse, but I definitely was not excited about them. Which is especially sad because the Fall season tends to bring out the best merchandise from J.Crew & Madewell.
Thanks, Alexis.
DeleteI don't shop much as madewell either, but these look like things I would actually wear in a way I would actually wear them! I wear JCrew but almost never in the way JCrew styles things. Cockamamie is right!
ReplyDeleteI like that "Bien" sweater -- and does that tee with the red skirt say "Paris"?
ReplyDeleteFashionAncient - I love the Bien sweater, too :)
DeleteI heard that Madewell is bringing in a new denim designer and that they will be discontinuing the current styles of jeans. If there is anything you love, you might want to get it before it's gone.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, thanks for the heads up. I've heard good things about their rail straight jeans. I better get a move on and try a pair before they are history.

Deletemaryeb, I love their Rail Straight jeans in Dusty Blue. They have a bit of stretch to them and the color is good. The sizes are limited, though. When I called to see if they might get more in in the fall, customer service told me what I wrote above. I imagine they'll offer similar things, but I like what I like and I don't feel like learning a new set of styles.
DeleteAlso, I tried the rail straights and the bootleggers in different washes and I did not universally like either style. The washes I like, I really like, though. Dusty Blue was my favorite wash in the Rail Straight (I didn't care for the Roadstop or Madewell washes in these).
I really like a few of these pieces and the general vibes. My Madewell is that I generally like their Lookbooks and online pics more than tbe actual clothes and store, so we'll see.
ReplyDeleteI did order a pair of Bensimon slip-ons with the free shipping. I prefer free shipping no minimum to % off codes if I only want to buy one thing.
I meant "my problem with Madewell".
DeleteI agree with the shorts/heavy winter coat combo but maybe i'm just to temperature sensitive? I have a hard time cropped pants with flats and no socks although i love the look and try it every few weeks to see if I can handle the cold on my (apparently) delicate ankles.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Madewell tees. I'm probably older than their targeted market, so I don't even bother with 95% of their dresses or skirts. But! I love their bootlegger jeans (may have to nab another based on above comment!) and many of their sweaters and tees are appropriate for all ages! I find most of their tops slouchy and tend to size down. I don't have a store near me either, but since their jeans always ship and return for free, I've experimented w/o guilt. I've never wanted to return their tees and in fact tend to go back and order more everyone there's a free ship and/or promo.

ReplyDeleteI've generally been liking Madewell more and more but I can't even begin to think about fall right now! To me, summer hasn't even hit Chicago yet. I'm still shopping for the beach and cocktails in the sun, thank you very much!
