The email features the (1) Bensimon® high-tops (Item 23774; $52.50); (2) Bensimon® Tennis Elastique (Item 23773; $40.00); & (3) Kids' Bensimon® Tennis Lacet (Item 23749; $40.00). J.Crew touts the following with their partnership with Bensimon:
Established in 1954, Paris-based Bensimon (family owned and operated to this very day) has been designing some of Europe's coolest shoes for years. Their iconic sneakers, known for their simple, clean lines and bold colors, are beloved by legendary style icons of all ages—and we are incredibly excited to announce that J.Crew is the sole retailer of this shoe in the U.S.I did not realize that J.Crew is the only retailer for Bensimon in the states— that is pretty cool! :)
Lastly, it is worth mentioning that Crewcuts now comes up to size 14. Although, these items are available online/ catalog only.
What are your thoughts on the Bensimon sneaks for kids (& adults)? Have you bought a pair already? Would you recommend the Bensimon brand to fellow JCAs?
I personally love the Bensimon shoes, which are a summertime staple in France. They look more elegant and polished than a regular sneaker--they have a very low, rubber heel and a sleek cut.
ReplyDeleteThey are also very light and the canvas breathes, so I don't need to wear socks with them. Lastly, they come in a range of nice colors.
I wear them with everything in the summer--dresses, shorts, etc., etc.
Although I love them, I imagine my daughter wouldn't wear them. She's 7 and already everything has to be the "right" brand--right now it's Skechers. Sigh.
Thanks J. Crew for offering the Crewcuts in size 14!! When petite
ReplyDeletemiddle schoolers are in between kids and juniors sizes it can be really hard to find clothes that fit and they like.
i love bensimons. however, JCrew is exaggerating a bit here. urban outfitters carries bensimon from time to time also. i've also found them at independent boutiques.
ReplyDeletethe only negative about these shoes is since you don't wear them with socks, they don't tend to end up as the most fragrant shoes in the world.
I just googled "bensimon" and there are several online stores carrying them...
ReplyDeleteThese are cute and fairly comfortable, although the ladies versions are a bit overpriced for what they are, at $55+. They are machine washable but don't hold up well if you wash them repeatedly. At least, that has been my experience.
ReplyDeleteAs someone mentioned the other day, they are available at bensimonusa.com and JCA's you'll love this - free shipping in the USA.
J Crew may be only carrying them for kids, but you can buy Bensimon through Habitat Shoes online. Free People carried the hi-tops last year as well, so they may have them again.
ReplyDeleteHello! I was wondering if anybody happened to know about the sizing for the crewcuts size 14. Is there possibly a corresponding women's size? Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteThe Madewell in Dallas carries Bensimon (I realize Madewell is a part of J.Crew, but still...). Amazon and Shopbop also have a fairly decent selection, as well.
ReplyDeleteEleni-
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about girls, but I can wear the Crewcuts boys tops. I wear a size 2/4 (depending on vanity sizing) in Women's, and the boys size 10 fits me just fine, if not a little loose. I would imagine the girls line would be similar. A couple thing to keep in mind though are the bust and length. Neither boys/girls is going to be cut to accomidate "lady parts" so it might not work as well if you're anything smaller than a small B cup. Length might be an issue too, if you have a long torso.I'm tall, but short-waisted, and the boy's tees still fit fine length wise.
Eleni,
ReplyDeleteI've ordered girls sz12 sweaters and tees and they were too tiny around the armholes. It depends on design. I'm 5'2" and wear XS, 0 or 2 J Crew tops. I ordered sz 14 girls carousel coat last month. It fit like women's coat. Even the arms were long. Just as long as regular women's. Chest fit OK. sz 12 still is iffy for me but 14 fits like women's XS for sure.
Oh man I don't like these at all. Chucks are so much better, or Simples. The two on these is so weird, almost clownish.
ReplyDeleteEleni, kids' sizes really don't correspond to women's sizes. Kids' clothes are not made to fit a post-pubescent woman's body. I still remember my mother trying unsuccessfully to stuff my budding 12-year-old curves into the less expensive children's clothing lines...
ReplyDeleteRe: Crewcuts
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it depend on your body shape though? I find that kids clothes tend to fit me pretty well - except in the sleeves.
If you have a rather boyish shape, A cup breasts and are petite, you can pull it off.
Thank you so much Egypt, Ji, Jeanne and Amanda! You guys really helped!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI'm a 94lbs. size 0 with a boyish figure and I'm looking to buy some items from the J.Crew's girls dept. being that I actually like more from the girl's than the women's dept. this fall and I was thinking a size 12 or 14 would work. Does anyone purchase from the girl's dept. and if so do the knit tops and sweater fit wider than women's size xs in the body specifically the stomach and bottom hem area? Thanks!
