Once in awhile, J.Crew will have a minor glitch with the images used in their website, catalog, or promotions that makes us smile. The following is one of those instances...
Honestly, who doesn't love the Sunshine Peony print? I love all its versions— from the Sunshine Peony Cardigan (Item 24938; $98.00), to the Sunshine Peony Coccinelle Dress (Item 24947; $138.00), to the Sunshine Peony Perfect Shirt (Item 22768; $98.00), and even the Sunshine Peony Skirt (Item 22591; $98.00). Now, about that skirt...
A big "thanks!" to Danielle, Linnette, as well as Leader Girl, PinkLuxe, Sheil, Silver_Lining, Christy, DaniBP, StuffIWear, Heidi, AppGal, & Kendra (in this post), who pointed out the mini-blooper with the Sunshine Peony Pencil Skirt photo. From the catalog image (shown above), it is clear that J.Crew "cut out" a pencil skirt-shape from the lovely Sunshine Peony print and pasted it onto the model.
"Kudos!" to Silver_Lining (in this post) who figured out that the original skirt in the photo was most-likely the Neapolitan Pencil Skirt (Item 22982; $98.00). As she pointed out, the outfit is exactly the same (minus the skirt of course). ;)
Heidi (in this post) provided the most reasonable explanation of what might have occurred: "they may have photoshopped it in because they didn't have the sample finished in time for the shoot with the model".
Lastly, "thanks!" to GigiOfCa who provided a review & real-life images of this skirt over at her {amazing} Gigi's Gone Shopping blog (check out her "JCrew - sunshine peony pencil skirt" post). This print on the skirt looks beautiful in real life. (And GigiOfCa looks great in it!) Also, "thanks!" to FFM who has a few images of this print over at her Fabulous Floria Mommy blog that should be checked out too (refer to her "J.Crew New Arrivals: IRL Pics", "J.Crew New Arrivals: IRL Pics *Part Two*", & "J.Crew New Arrivals: IRL Pics *Part Three*" posts).
Did you notice the mistake with the Sunshine Peony Pencil Skirt image? Did you try on or purchase this skirt? If so, please share! ;)
Too funny. I have bought the skirt -very lovely. Had to pass on cardi ( too much going on), but loved the dress ( unfortunately strapless tops and I are not friends, wish JC would design removable starps, so the dresses can be worn either way).
ReplyDeleteLove the print and bought the skirt, cardigan, and shirt. I'm with Slastena on strapless. Add strapless to the elasticized backing and i'm playing with fire; the dress will slip down on me. :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the look of this skirt, but haven't seen it in store to try on yet.
ReplyDeleteI'm irked at the price of this item going from $88 in my basket to $98 overnight. How many does this make now? The Minnie pants, Always cardigan, cotton check shirt, tissue garland tank...
Looove this skirt. Can't wait to get mine (hopefully it'll get here tomorrow!) It is such a lovely, happy print.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, it is MEGA-LAME that j.crew has increased the price on this skirt (and other items) since it came out. It is really not fair. When I first saw the preview of this skirt and saw that it was "only" $88, I wondered if it would be one of those items they change.
I noticed that right away! A friend and I preordered it and we waited to see the image on the website Thursday. We got quite a kick out of that badly done Photoshop.
ReplyDeleteI didn't care for the cardigan in this print. I liked the shirt and strapless dress, I just don't need them in my wardrobe.
Just bought the skirt, and it is beautiful! It is the only item in this print that I will buy, for reasons already mentioned in others' posts - strapless dresses are not for me, the cardigan is darker and doesn't have quite the same effect, and JC's shirts tend to gap on me, even in the largest size. But the skirt is a delight!
ReplyDeleteI noticed this too when I was browsing last week. I preordered it and it has shipped. I paid $88 for it.
ReplyDeleteNow about the price... Do you think JCrew made a mistake of the price between the skirt and the cardigan? I mean the neopolitan skirt is $98 to begin with and all the printed cardigans are $88 so why is the Sunshine cardigan $98 and the skirt $88 to begin with? I feel as though there must have been a mistake there. Even then, JCrew should NOT have raised the price of the Sunshine skirt. I've said this many times, but it's bad practice and irks my loyalty at JCrew.
I've seen the Sunshine dress, the skirt and the cardigan but it's lighter color than it appears online. I would have liked it darker but will see about the skirt once I try it on.
They also changed the priced of the Matchstick Broken Wash jeans from $108.00 to $98.00. I do not like them fooling with the prices based on whether an item is selling fast or not, or fooling around with the pics on-line it lacks credibility imo.
ReplyDeleteThe Jackie cardigan went up to $62, but that was a couple months ago. It's so greedy and non customer friendly to raise prices on popular items!
ReplyDeleteThe vintage pajama set also went up to $75 from $69.50 during the holiday collection. Grrr...J. Crew.
ReplyDeleteTo stay on topic I do love the look of this print. It's beautiful and I'm debating between the shirt, the cardigan, or the dress. Unfortunately, pencil skirts never look good on me because my waist is much smaller than my hips and it's too much fabric to take in. I also don't want my hips and behind advertised the way a pencil skirt does! But the skirt is fabulous and I'm excited to see how everyone styles it.

ReplyDeleteFor the 3rd time, I'm in agreement with everyone about the price hike. The peony skirt has a lining, and that may be the interest in charging $98 over other similar skirts, i.e. the watercolor floral ($88, no lining). However, once the price has been established and printed, they shouldn't change it. It's horrible business practice and makes them untrustworthy. As far as the Minnie pants, if they want to make the price higher, they should change the style number on a new release. Ugh, it's getting a little annoying just thinking about it. I really love the skirt & feel it's worth fp, but it's disgusting that the price was advertised as something else and they changed it. If they do that, they should be open about their error. Or just suck it up and keep the price at $88.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw the pic, I knew something was wrong but didn't zoom in to investigate. Too funny, JC! I love this print in pics, but not as much IRL. My ps said it was prettiest on the button-up, but of course my b&m didn't get it (just a catalog return).
ReplyDeleteI definitely saw that side seam in the photo...it is funny because the model is sort of half 3D and half 2D...like an Escher print.
ReplyDeleteI had this skirt on pre-sale, then cancelled it when I saw there was a dress. Went to my local store to see them both in person, with the intent of getting both. In person though, I didn't really care for the pattern on me, although I am sure it looks great on others! I found a gorgeous jacquard skirt in-store that I don't see on the website - has pink and orange-sherbet-like pattern.
ReplyDeleteI pre-ordered this skirt, and got it for the $88 before my teacher discount. I can't wait for it to arrive!!!
ReplyDeleteJenny,
ReplyDeleteI too did not care for the print in person. At least on the shirt. I need to return it. I know there were about 5 other posts this week of people who didn't care for the shirt print at all and were returning theirs as well but some did like the sweater or skirt print when they saw those in person vs the shirt.
The print looks so pretty online, I'm surprised to hear so many people say they don't like it IRL.
ReplyDeleteAfter trying on the shirt, skirt, dress, and cardigan...I ended up keeping the dress. I do think all 4 pieces are lovely, and will consider picking the shirt and skirt up on sale if I can find them in my size then. :)
ReplyDeleteJeanne,
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of yellow/mustard going on in the shirt in person that does not nec. look that way online. At least that is what others said. The coloring is off/more of a fall/warm color/not cool colors with more pink on the shirt.
For me, the color of the shirt was just OK. I was not impressed or in LOVE with the print so I know I won't wear the shirt much and would reach for other favorites first so not worth the $
Thanks for that explanation, Genny.
ReplyDeleteOT, stopped into B&M over lunch, saw a few things that aren't online yet. They brought back the sequin peekaboo cardigan; it's now avail in navy and chalk. Tried it on and the fabric seems thinner than the fall version. The chalk color was see-through. They also had a new collection skirt in a 70s-looking pink/orange/gold jacquard print.
ReplyDeleteJust got my Sunshine Peony skirt in the mail and LOVE it! Sooo pretty.
ReplyDeleteI saw that paper doll effect just today and thought my mind was playing tricks on me. Leave it to the JCAs to bring photoshop blunders to light with light humor.
ReplyDeleteI do like the bright and pretty print overall.
The print's background seems darker and browner on the cardigan, and I could only wear that once in 3 weeks with all of its colors. For the same reason, the shirt is a no-go. I just don't wear pencil skirts, so the skirt showcased in this post is out of the picture, too.
I agree with Slastena and Cleo, where are the removable straps for us ladies who need a little "insurance"? Can tailors make these types of removable straps from a piece of the hem?
I grabbed up the skirt the other day and love it! The print is pretty but what I REALLY love about it is the color tones they used. There are so many potential combinations.....sounds corny, but I find it an inspiring skirt!
