The first image features the "Blurrish Check Perfect" shirt ($88). This item is not yet available but should be soon. This shirt is one of actress Kerri Russell's picks and she shares that "J.Crew is so great right now for classics: button-downs, pants, pencil skirts. And I love the way everything is layered on its website".
The second image showcases the Neapolitan Lady Jacket (Item 22995; $228.00), which J.Crew describes as:
This little short-sleeve jacket is a great alternative to a sweater and a chic update to a blazer. We love the sleek architectural lines (it's cut to flatter absolutely everybody). In a painterly, brushstroke jacquard with bi-colored satin trim, it's the perfect third piece for your wardrobe. The print of the shirt is something I need to see in-person. It looks like it would be too busy to be worn alone, but lovely underneath a cardigan or sweater vest. I like the print of the Neapolitan Lady Jacket, but I am not crazy about the fit. I prefer more fitted jackets. (I already own several looser/ boxy jackets from last year, so I am all set on that front.)
What are your thoughts on the various J.Crew items? Do you like (or dislike) the pattern/ colors for the Blurrish Check Perfect? Are you a fan of the Neapolitan Lady Jacket? :)
Off topic, but I wanted to let JCAs know that the Gap dark wash skinny ankle jeans are a great alternative to the denim Minnies. I worship the Minnie and have a pair in every color, so I was super excited to get them in denim. Maybe it was the ankle zip that gave me pause, having worked that look the first time around in '81.... I bought them but didn't take them out of the bag. I got the Gap skinnys at 25% off in last weeks spring sale and free shipping, for a grand total of $40! (I got them on the website, haven't seen in stores yet.) Fit is great and they are more flattering than the Minnies on me, it's cut better for my slightly more curvy figure (regular minnies are slimming but denim, not so much.) instead of a zipper they have a small cuff and front instead of side zip. I read a few reviews of Minnie lovers like myself who didn't love the denim so wanted to share this alternative.
ReplyDeleteAlexis, I agree with you on both counts. I like the watercolor-like print of the Neapolitan Lady Jacket, but I don't think the shape would be flattering. The Blurrish Check Perfect shirt could be cute, but it's something I'd want to see in person. With the wrong color combination, the print could look really dated and '70s - or like upholstery! In my magazine, it looks sort of orange and grey. Who knows what it's like up close, though?
ReplyDeleteI love Keri Russell and her clean, classic style. She's been photographed with J. Crew shopping bags before, so I knew she was a fan. I wish Jenna Lyons took a little inspiration from Keri and Amanda Peet (another professed fan) as opposed to hipsters and grungy supermodels.
I've been having a hard time with J Crew lately, and I think these two items are perfect examples of why- either the print is hard to wear, but the shape/fit of the item is cute....or the print is cute, but the shape/fit of the item is hard to wear.
ReplyDeleteI fear I'll have that issue with both of these items. :(
Good Morning everyone, and thanks for the *shout out* Alexis! :)
ReplyDeleteThe Blurrish Check shirt was shown in the Spring 2010 preview that we saw pics of previously: Click Here . It looks as if the print will also be available on a scarf: Click Here . The colors look promising from the magazine and online pics. However, IRL the colors at J.Crew rarely look as *subdued* or muted as they do online, so they could be really bright or even neon at this point. ;)
OCHalf07, thanks for the tip! Can you tell me which ones specifically at Gap? There's a mid-rise skinny indigo jean, style #705569, the skinny stretch pants #750296? Neither one of these have a cuff so I wasn't sure I had the right one.
ReplyDeleteThank you FFM and Alexis for sharing the Lucky mag pages.
ReplyDeleteI like the look of the shirt, kind of a foulard menswear print, which is always nice to pair with feminine pieces. I just wonder about the color - I have more than enough papaya in my wardrobe to last me for a long while. Could we replace some orange with pink for a change? It also appears to be a bit sheer as you can see shades of the print from the t-shirt beneath in the link FFM provided but perhaps that is only due to the super-bright lights for the model shot.
The jacket is a definite pass for me. Large, bold prints are not flattering near my face and with all that brown, it would totally wash me out. Not loving the shape either. The non-J.Crew dress beneath the jacket looks interesting though, I'll have to check that out.
I just got my Lucky mag and was happy to see that Keri Russell is a j.crew fan. I have loved her since her Felicity days (and always wanted her curly hair!)
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of any button-down shirt in general, so I'll be passing on the perfect shirt. However, I do LOVE the Neapolitan print. I'll probably end up getting the print in the pencil skirt, though.
Thanks to Alexis and FFM for sharing! :)
Good morning,
ReplyDeleteOT question about the wool floral scarf, #23288 in papaya, that was pictured on the site days after the latest roll-out but sold out in a couple of days.
If you ordered it, did you receive it, and was it as pictured? I did a WWFIFY for the item and color, and what I received was the watercolor potpourri print in lavender, charcoal, and papaya (which is called papaya for items such as the mini or the swing coat).
Did anyone receive the multi colored floral (mostly pink, green and papaya-orange, with some lavender and brown) that was actually pictured? Genny, I thik you said you ordered this?
Hexicon--I ordered that papaya scarf, and received the watercolor potpourri one.
ReplyDeleteSomeone from J Crew called me a couple of days later and left a message saying that they had made mistake and were sending the right scarf. I received the papaya one, and took the potpourri one back to my nearest J Crew store.
I had a hard time explaining why I was there to give them a scarf and I didn't need a refund.
Hexicon,
ReplyDeleteI posted an email to you in the strand where you stated about the WWFI and told you there is an error with this scarf and not to get excited b/c I got the same wrong scarf you did last Tuesday.
If you post your email address, I will give you the name of a contact that can help you get the right scarf. Regular CS staff and my PS were of no help at all. He told me I was not the only one with the problem and he sent me the correct scarf overnight. We are not alone as others have had the same issue he said. So, once again, I was really mad at JCrew when I opened my box and found the totally wrong scarf! I had used my rewards card too!
Meredith,
ReplyDeleteWonder how you got so lucky and had someone actually call you! I had to make 3 phone calls and several emails to get any help. You are lucky!
I just picked up the floral potpourri scarf - I really like the print, whereas I'm not big on the neapolitan at all. I've seen the scarf I think you're talking about, Hexicon, in stores, and it's very pretty :-)
ReplyDeleteI also fell for the Unagi tweed skirt in violet; it's already at my tailor being shortened. It's such a pretty color, and the perfect transitional follow-up to the pencil skirt in fresh plum. I'll be wearing the Unagi skirt
with the floral potpourri scarf next week when I'm in Paris. Can't wait :-)
I like the Neopolitan print and got the pencil skirt. Also tried the silk dress in this print but was not sure about the ruffles in the chest. I too prefer fitted jackets since I own several boxy fit ones.
ReplyDeleteOCHalf07: I'll have to check out Gap's skinny jeans. I just got my denim Minnies but if I can find one similar for half the price I'll gladly return it.
Meredith: Do you still have the style number for the correct floral scarf you received? I'd love to pre-order if possible. TIA!
La Belle Helene: I love the violet color but haven't tried the Unagi pencil skirt yet. Isn't the potpourri scarf just lovely? I had to get the dress but any ideas on what to wear with it since it's strapless? :-)
ReplyDeletejcrewphd--papaya wool scarf info:
ReplyDelete23288 Wool floral scarf,papaya
Cheryl, the style number on the gap jeans is #696637. It is on the website under "new arrivals"
ReplyDeleteThank you for the info Meredith!
ReplyDeleteEverybody who was looking for wool floral scarf in papaya. I got mine last week in Paramus NJ store and they had plenty of them. They also have a cardi in the same print and blossom pencil skirt, shirt and merino cardi. A lot of other items not online yet, tweed jacket similar to collier but in yellow green, and few pretty floral perfect shirt. The blossom print is very pretty floral pastels, yellows, blush, greens(you can see it in flats) and the pencil skirt was $88 and run big imo. I may get the skirt or the cardi. I got the jacquard dots skirt because the fit was so nice and i think it is very versatile but I wish it will go down in price before my $60 days is up.
ReplyDeleteI like the shirt but I'm with you ShuLvr, can we have a little less orange for once? It is not a universally flattering color and quite frankly I'm sick of papaya everything at JCrew. Glad to see some purples and other cool brights returning to the lineup this season, it's a start.
ReplyDeleteGenny, thank you so much, my email is hexicon at yahoo dot com.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think that "papaya" is NOT the correct name for the multi-color even though that is what was briefly on the website. I think "papaya" is the color for the watercolor potpourri print and the pastel multi has a different name although the same item number.
Thanks all!
OCHalf07, thanks for the style #. Did you size down on the Gap slim cropped denim to get a slimmer fit like the Minnie? Gap's looks a bit too roomy in the hips/thighs, while the Minnie looks a little too snug for my comfort level, so I'm looking for something in between.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone post a picture of this highly coveted wool scarf? I'm very curious now!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'd love to see a pic of the scarf too!
ReplyDeleteRegarding the jacket. I would have considered it, but I think I shouldn't now. I have one or two jackets from Jcrew that are so boxy...Gave in when these went on sale, but what a mistake. Wish they would work on some figure flattering fitted jackets. I get these at BCBGMaxazria, and they do a great job with short sleeve, fitted jackets.

The print on the scarf looks very similar to the Collection dress that was featured in the lookbook. It's probably coming in the next release, given that it is already in the Paramus store.
ReplyDeletejcrewphd, I adore the floral potpourri print - I so wish the skirt was longer, because then I'd buy it - but I mean, 15.5 inches? What adult woman wears skirts that short? A preppy prostitute?
ReplyDeleteI tried the dress on, but it was not a good fit on me at all, unfortunately :-(
Afternoon
ReplyDeleteI'd love to purchase the potpourri scarf. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can find one?
Thanks
Now you just *know* the ebay resellers are calling the Paramus store as we type...
ReplyDeleteOT: was able to use/stack 4 codes at Old Navy just now to make some great purchases for the family. Go to retailmenot and they are all listed. 40% off one adult item/30% off another adult item/$10 off any order with ON or GAP card/$5 off of $20. Was able to use them all. Had to pay $7 flat rate for shipping but no big deal after using all the codes!
ReplyDeleteLa Belle: preppy prostitute - heehee!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info FFM/Alexis!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with all of the comments regarding boxy jackets. I won't buy anymore boxy "blazers" or even the lightweight outerwear jackets no matter how great the print or color. The fit is off. I think they need to change their pattern and make something more fitted and flattering.
Re: the shirt pictured..the photo at the shoot sure appears translucent. Sometimes that voile is a nice weight for Summer but it isn't going to be solid like a perfect-fit shirt. Most likely a pass for me.
Oh and the scarf is the waterFLORAL print like the gorgeous collection dress. The perfect shirt in this pattern will be out on the site in about a week. LOVE it!!
ReplyDeleteHoping that means more new arrivals as well:)
I bought the Potpourri scarf at the store (tag read Papaya), and I love it! I may be alone here, but I think it is way more adorable than the Waterfloral scarf.
ReplyDeleteOT: Boden has a presale on summer items through Monday. You need a special email to get 20% off and free shipping and free returns. I will be happy to sent this email to anyone who want to look. I ordered a skirt and a scarf.
ReplyDeletePS Items won't ship until April. So can always order and cancel if you change your mind or return shippin is free as well:)
ReplyDeleteTo clarify, the skirt I tried on in Paramus is Sunshine Peony pencil skirt (Cezanne skirt) as pictured by Dancing as Fast As I Can.
ReplyDeleteLike I said, there was also perfect shirt and merino cardi in the same print. Also cotton cardi in watercolor floral.
I think once the skirt is online it may sell out fast as it is very pretty print and 'only' $88. It seemed just as well made as other pencil skirts. There was also a strapless dress. I loved it all.
Genny-would love the boden code:) I was checking out some of the adorable boys tops last night
ReplyDeleteThanks

Genny,
ReplyDeleteCan you forward me the Boden email please!
erum khan at gmail dot com
THANKS!
Twiga and Packola,
ReplyDeleteI just sent you the codes. Hope they come through for you. It is just the summer (new) items that are included but some cute items. Let me know what you preorder if you :)
Thanks Genny:) I will check it out tonight and keep you posted.
ReplyDeleteNow back to J Crew...
Twiga,
ReplyDeleteYes, I guess this is a JCrew blog after all:) I am just "off the JC Kool-Aid right now:) Too much sugar.
I am way behind on blog reading, so sorry if this has been posted, but two updates:
ReplyDeleteI had a chance to run into the concept store and they had the new (recycled) bags. They are greyish, same sizes and, most importantly, still rope handles. Not quite as long as the old ones, but you can still get them over your shoulder. I know there was JCA anxiety about that! :)
Also, I saw several things from the next rollout. I took some iphone pictures (so not as good as you are used to seeing) that I will try to upload tonight and post a link. I thought resort and the one after that were blah, this had several things much more interesting to me.
Finally, they had the vintage bateau top (24484) in pewter in stock in several sizes (after thinking it was nothing exciting, I took it home!) and also a neon-ish pink that I guess is a store-only color. They also had lots of those two floral scarves that have been so in demand. I can't find them on the website right now, but one is the same print as the watercolor potpourri mini (23003) and the other is the wool floral scarf, seen here
http://www.polyvore.com/womens_new_arrivals_accessories_wool/thing?id=14165235
Store's phone number is 201.845.9292
ajc: can you share some of the colors featured in the sunshine peony skirt? are they mostly pastels, or are there some brighter colors involved? did the skirt have stretch to it? TIA!
ReplyDeleteI got the scarf and got many compliments on it. Call the WWFI that is how I got mine.
ReplyDeleteOrdered the Ruffle Rainey Jacket - Not sure if keeping
Any thoughts????
I think the shirt is really pretty on the model. I love the perfect shirts so will be watching out for this one as well as the waterfloral.
ReplyDeleteNo likey the jacket though. Sweetsy you have a good point, the fit is off for a lot of the jackets lately. Tailoring please!
OT a little bit, I finally got the Super 120's Metro dress in crushed grape today and I did say I would report back on the fit since I'm one of the busty JCA's and wasn't sure if the cowl would work for me.
My size 8 sold out fast so I had to stalk it and eventually pulled the trigger a size up. It never came back in my size in the grape color and now is totally SO in size 8. Good to SU though, it fits small IMO, at least in the bust. I have the Isabel, Jayne, Abstract Roses and stretch flannel Banquette dresses in my usual size 8 and they all fit fine. The Metro has no room to spare on top and with the drapey cowl and low-cut v neck, it creates quite the buffet. Sadly, I will have to return this dress because it is just a major boob show. Yes, it's that scandalous on me, at least if we're talking work wear. If you are small-busted you may want to give this dress a try but beware, it is cut low. I thought about wearing a cami or a scarf but with the cowl there is too much going on, adding more would throw it off totally.
HTH someone out there. At least I tried. :(
Hi Genny, could you email me the boden code? mtmunger@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Kerri Russell is all about J. Crew style -- wasn't she wearing some of their lovely cardigans in her InStyle shoot months ago? She's cute as a button. I passed by the store I usually go to, and they had a great ode to Portugal in their window. Made me wish for summer days!
ReplyDeleteAppgal, sunshine peony skirt is very pretty pastels, yellow, pink brown and cream mostly. I thought it looked good with blush pink, butterscotch, or creamy brown. It it is not washed out though, definitely makes you think spring. The yellow is quite vibrant and there is some hot pink. It s fully lined and material is not thin, actually quite substantial I don't think there is much stretch to it. I thought i would size down but I noticed i had to do it in all 2010 pencil skirts. I did not buy it because I was not sure what to wear with it and I thought it was bunching up a bit on my rear even if the size was correct in the hips and waist. But I am thinking of going back now.
ReplyDeleteajc - is it the same material as the girl's crewcuts sunshine dress? The dress seems to be the same colors as those you're describing. If it is, then we can all get an idea of the print, at least.
ReplyDeleteSlastena has a pic of the sunshine peony or Cezanne skirt on her blog. She gave credit to Cleo26 but I'm not sure which blog is hers so this is from Slastena's.
ReplyDeletehttp://jcrewchick.blogspot.com/2010/02/little-sunshine-our-way-preview.html
xoxo, sorry about the fit on the Metro! I was really pulling for you to find a cowl you liked. I can see how that one may not have been the most modest of all necklines on that one!
ReplyDeleteCan I have the Boden code too ? Many thanks!!!
ReplyDeletedkdkgse@yahoo.com
Hi! Genny can I please have the Boden email, too?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!!!
robinonthenet AT yahoo DOT com
Thanks again Genny--I hope that the right scarf is on the way now! And would look forward to seeing other items in this print.
ReplyDeleteXOXO, I cannot understand why JC keeps cutting suiting dresses so low in the front. I haven't been able to purchase a single suiting dress this year. (Carlyle, Metro, Banquette--all out of the question.) These are office dresses--where do they think we work? Oh yeah, like La Belle Helene said, we must be preppie prostitutes!
Ok, just read through the previous comments, and sorry, others did cover what I said. Here is the link to the pictures I took of some items from the upcoming rollout:
ReplyDeletehttp://tinyurl.com/ycdvvej
LaBelleHelene, couldn't have said it better. I was looking at the new cotton skirt (24661) and it's 14". Like I said on Slatena's blog, I have tennis skirts that are 14" long. But they have attached shorties. Don't supposed JCrew has any shorties hiding in there....
mommydearest: Thank you so much for the pics! Can you please tell me the item# for the Sunshine Peony Cardigan ? TIA! :)
ReplyDeleteNo problem, FFM! Just putting that together with taxed my limited technical skills almost to their limit! I have A LOT of appreciation for what you and Alexis and all the other awesome bloggers do all the time!!
ReplyDeleteI think the item number for the cardi is 24938. That is the best I can make out from my picture. Next time I will know to write everything down in an organized fasion :)
Thank you mommydearest! Btw, I uploaded your pic of the Sequin Scarf Cardigan to Polyvore. :)
ReplyDeleteHere it is: Sequin Scarf Cardigan
ReplyDeleteLove the pics mommydearest. I think the Cherry Blossom cardi is just lovely. My PS said there would be a mid-month release online tonight.
ReplyDeleteFFM, I LOVE YOU!!!!!!! Thank you so much!! I am *so*particular about having nice PV pictures. It's tempting to redo my one and only set with that sweater (from Dec, no less)just so it looks better ;)
ReplyDeleteJulieStyles, I think that one is really pretty too. I was willing to make an exception to my washable-only rule for it. But the cropped length on me killed that idea :(
ReplyDeleteCheesyGoodness, I was really hoping this would work out as I love the purple color and the super 120's wool. I may have a fix though. When I modeled it for my husband and lamented the exposed cleavage he told me I should try pinning it together with the "face pin" from my grandmother. He meant my cameo pin. I tried it and it looks OK, I'm going to ask my sister what she thinks. Always love an opportunity to wear my grandmother's cameo.
ReplyDeleteHexicon, I have the Banquette in both gray and black and I wear them with a scarf so the cleavage is covered. The simple lines allow some add-ons that the Metro dress doesn't do so easily and the cowl on the Metro adds a bit of bulk too. I think I could also get away with a lingerie cami underneath the Banquette dresses. Since I'm in Canada it is OK to wear a scarf or layer a cami for 10 months of the year. :P
