Are there any shoes that you are interested in? Will you be taking advantage of this promotion?
I feel about JC shoes the way I feel about their sweaters--they look fabulous in all those yummy colors, but they don't wear well. They hurt like hell. Does anyone else find the shoes impossibly painful or am I being cranky?
ReplyDeleteI'm almost afraid to concur..because most people on here already know how strongly I feel;)
ReplyDeleteany love for the guys Jcrew?!
ReplyDeleteI find their flats terribly uncomfortable but I've had great luck with their heels and boots. Does this promotion include sale shoes? I might do a mock checkout to see...thanks for the heads up as I've not gotten this email yet.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that JC's shoes aren't a happy marriage with my feet. I'm fine with the driving mocs, but lately even the ballet flats aren't comfy for very long. I may be putting some of my collection up on the weekly exchange soon, with a heavy JCA heart. Seeing as how their footwear's seriously cute, this all makes me sad and cranky. I'm with ya on cranky, ganas! :-)
ReplyDeleteThe shoes are cute, but they're definitely not comfortable. Not to beat a dead horse, but the older shoes/boots that had leather linings and soles have definitely held up better than the more recent shoes. It looks like there are more leather shoes than in previous years, but they're all $300+.
ReplyDeleteI won't be partaking in this sale, especially after watching previous shoes go on sale, I bet most of these styles will eventually be marked much lower. Honestly, though - I haven't been able to pull the trigger on a pair of JC shoes in quite a while since I find them to be overpriced (even on sale) for what they are.
Still overpriced, even with the percent off. I did my daily check this morning for the black or brown Cosettes, and not only did they NOT drop the price, they went UP! This is getting to be JC's bad habit, and it is not enticing me to buy anything.

ReplyDeleteroxy, the promo says "prices as marked" so I doubt there is an additional discount on sale-priced shoes. Although this promo looks like it covers almost all J.Crew regular-priced shoes, which is nice that it is not just a select few styles and colours.
ReplyDeleteWell, it covers almost all regular-priced women's footwear that is not a collaboration but to their credit J.Crew actually stated that in the promo for a change. Although the prices usually do go down a lot further as the season progresses, this is a good deal if you need a new pair of shoes right now, with all the holiday functions coming up.
ReplyDeleteI'm with a lot of others who find the shoes overpriced and uncomfortable. I also have older shoes and boots that are all leather and they are really great. Most of the newer ones are kept at the office and worn while at work only. It's easy for me to slip them off under the desk during the day and put them back on if someone comes into my office.
I might go for the Nottingham tall leather boots in black. I have Glenbraes in brown and love them, would like a similar black pair. I like the soft, distressed leather. Any reviews out there?
Hi xoxo, I also like the look of the tall Nottinghams in black... but don't really like the half-zipper on the side. Does anybody know what the point of the half-zip is? I'm not sure I get it - why not just make them zip all the way up?
ReplyDeletesilver-lining, I don't know why there isn't a full-zip on this style of boot. I think it is an attempt to minimize the appearance of the zipper to make the boots more like the original riding boots that were pull-on, pull-off and were probably created before zippers were invented.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the 1/2 zip, it works really well and looks fine IMO. I love that these boots (and last year's Glenbrae's) are all leather. The quality is really good for the price.
Love your new photo BTW, do you own that gorgeous plaid skirt?
I have the juliets in black (I know all do) and I sized up a half size while buying them. The first time I wore them they hurt like hell. Then I put in gel insole steppies near the ball of foot...could wear them with much ease after that. I tried wearing socks with them, but they would make my feet slippery and slide forward which would hurt again as the front of my feet would get caught in the small toebox.... I really wish J. crew would make the juliets with a bigger toe box and ya.. use a better quality sole which would give back less impact from the ground while walking...
ReplyDeleteIt is such a cute shoe... does J. crew have a suggestion box ?
Vichy, I think whether they know it or not, JCA is their suggestion box! ;)
ReplyDeletexoxo, I do own it - it's the Stewart tartan skirt from Holiday 2006, I think. It is gorgeous, and has a back pleat with some really pretty gathering. It really is one of those "classics with a twist" (gah, I've grown to hate that phrase - but it really applies to this skirt)!
I own almost no Jcrew shoes. I think they're very over-priced and I'd never pay that much for even a good shoe. I find too many I like that are affordable. I have that plaid skirt in Silver_lining's pic, I love it and I got it on monster sale after christmas. I'm a little plaid-obssessed...I also have the plaid cocktail dress J crew had I think during Holiday 2007 and matching clutch, NOT to be worn together, of course. Sorry to digress...
ReplyDeleteI'm considering the Nottinghams as well...does anyone own them? I found a previous review in the comments, but I'm wondering if I can tuck in skinnys.
ReplyDeletesilver_lining:
ReplyDeletethe skirt in your avatar is the exact same plaid that i had as my high school uniform. who knew that it was so stylish. hahah
Heather M. I think the tucking may depend on the size of your calves but this style is made for tucking. J.Crew offers extended calf boots too and there have been mixed reviews about the "extended"ness. I tuck pants into my Glenbraes no problem and would expect to do the same with the Nottingham but I can tuck pants into most boots anyway, my calves and ankles are ridiculously skinny.
ReplyDeleteHey silver_lining, maybe that is why there is not a full zipper on these boots, because they are looser-fitting in the calf area to allow for tucking. Usually boots with a full-zip are more contoured and hug the leg, don't allow for easy tucking. What do you think?
Where's the Shu Lvr these days? I'm sure she would have a comment on the 1/2 zip.
I don't typically have a problem with J. Crew shoes, like a lot of the looks but steer away from high heels in general. Did get the Jules flats and heels because they were so pretty and I like the Jewel box flats BUT it's the price to value ratio I have trouble with. Nordstrom is having their designer shoe sale starting this weekend. You know, the pricey good shoes? 40% off. So before I spend any money on cute but overpriced (even on sale) J. Crew shoes, I will be checking that out first. And that's the problem with J. Crew shoes for me. Unless they're are very unique, the price for what you could spend elsewhere on better shoes makes no sense.
ReplyDeleteCheesy: What's up with the price increase in those Cosettes? I hate it too when JC keeps on changing prices (not going down but actually UP). Bad practice, JC!
ReplyDeleteDo you ladies size up for the boots (1/2 size up)? I'm considering the Glenbrae on ebay or the Cadogan but I'm not sure about sizing.
Has any one tried the Cadogan Ankle boots? True to size? Thanks...
I'll not order with this promo...need more discount for their over priced shoes...
I think the half-zip on the Nottingham is to allow you to get your foot through the ankle portion of the boot more easily. As someone with a fairly high instep, I can rarely get my foot through the ankle of a pull-on boot - it just gets stuck! With the half-zip, I'm able to get my foot down into the boot with no problem.
ReplyDeleteI tried the high-heeled tall Nottingham boots, and while I liked them, I didn't think they were worth the price. The leather was nice, but not as soft as I would have expected for $325. Additionally, the top edge of the boot wasn't finished all that nicely - the leather was just cut off and topstitched. I would have expected a slightly more "finished" edge for the money.
That said, if they had fit fabulously? I would have kept them. The style is really cute, the broken-in leather looks rugged but polished at the same time, and I love the height of the heel. Unfortunately, the calf was a little tight for me (I have fairly large calves, and the extended calf size wasn't as roomy as I would have hoped - even after sizing up a half-size to get a little more calf circumference), and the boot shaft was a bit tall for my short legs!
Hope this helps someone!
Thanks, xoxo.
ReplyDeleteMy thought on the zipper is that any zipper makes it easier to get on (I've had massive trouble getting past the top arch in J. Crew boots in the past), and the half-zip is more discreet than the full; it doesn't really ruin the line of the boot. I've been trying on lots of boots and my experience has been that the less expensive ones have the full zip; I bet it's more difficult to put a half in.
OK, I told myself just one more comment and then I have to get back to reconciling my CapEx and OpEx for October against actuals. No wonder I would rather be blogging about boots. {:-}
ReplyDeletejcmama, I bought the glenbrae's 1/2 size up because I wanted to wear them with thick socks over my tights. I have to walk from my parking to the office and the Calgary mornings can be cold, yet beautifully warm for the afternoon walk back. I am sure I could wear my usual size but only with regular socks.
Christina, definitely the 1/2 zip is to help get the boot on, the question was why not just put in a full zip instead.
Heather M., I bet you are right in that it would be harder to put in the 1/2 zip. I like the look of it too.
OT--I just completed an order on J.Crew and I recieved a pop up survey. Have others been getting this? It asked many question on shipping, shipping charges, stock, and quality.
ReplyDeleteDo you think that I could use my student discount along with the 20% off shoes and boots?
ReplyDeleteI remember a while back a couple stated that student discount could be used along with specific item sales and not global percent off sales.
Anyone tried calling?
Thanks,
Sandra,
ReplyDeleteCurrent rule: Educator or student discounts only good on FULL priced merchandise. (Believe me, I know this one by heart after all the new rule changes....)
Emily,
ReplyDeleteWe are on the same page......:)
Does anyone own the ryder satchel ? Any views on it...
ReplyDeleteHi all,
ReplyDeleteAnyone own or tried the short roadster boots..? I've never owned a pair of J.Crew shoes, period, and am trying to decide between 8 and 8.5... do you ladies usually size up for the boots? Any feedback/advice would be appreciated... I've wanted these boots for a whiiiile and just may finally go for it...
Molly,
ReplyDeleteThat's tough to say, but I have a few J.crew boots and I always order a 1/2 size up than my normal 7 1/2. I don't know about the roadster boots though...since they are short, you might be okay with your regular size?
Heather.M,
ReplyDeleteI have the Nottingham tall leather flat boots and really like them. I would say they run TTS. My calves are pretty muscular (14") so I ordered the extended calf version. I am glad I did, because they fit perfectly that I can tuck in skinnys. They are pretty comfortable that I can wear them the whole day in the office and a little walking. HTH.
I think most of J.Crew shoes are made for people that have skinny feet :) My feet are a little 0n the wide side and all J.crew shoes are a bit tight on me.
Sandra, when the knits were 20% last week (week before?), I ordered online and then emailed and asked if they would apply my teacher discount and they did. It's worth a try if you're going to order shoes or boots. In my experience, if an item is on promo, then the discount applies. If the item is marked down or there is an extra percent off or free shipping with a code, then the discount cannot be applied.
ReplyDeleteIssy, I agree with you. I have narrow feet and jcrew shoes work great for me. I don't have to add insoles and best of all my sister can't steal them. :) Wish you could have shoes taken in like clothes.
ReplyDeleteMy online PS told me educator's discounts do not apply to promo items. Only full priced items. I also tried (while waiting for her reply which took several days) emailing CS asking for it to apply and they said the same thing. No educator's or student discount on promo items.
ReplyDeleteI am loving the Marlene criss-cross heels. Has anyone tried these yet? Would love a review or even opinions. Definitely won't be wearing them with ankle socks though.
ReplyDeleteGenny, it sounds like once again it depends on who you communicate with at JC. My online PS just gave me the educator discount on the tiered cami that has a promo price and I never have any trouble in the b&m's when an item is on promo. Who knows what the real policy is? I just wish they'd make up their mind and then let ALL of their employees know.
ReplyDeleteWell it happened to me.
ReplyDeleteI've read everyone's posts about J. Crew's declining quality. Because I don't buy items like the embellished tees, etc. I hoped it wouldn't happen. My Crosby coat arrived today and it is gorgeous. Love it. However, when I put my hand in my left pocket, the pocket is torn open about three inches along the bottom.
Who do they have manufacturing these coats? It's new, the back vent is still stitched, but the left pocket is completely torn open. I will have it sewn the next time I have it cleaned or I'll stitch it myself. But if I were to forget and put something in that pocket, it would fall into the lining.
I still love the coat, but my over the moon enthusiasm sure didn't last long.

ReplyDeletedickfiddy, I am with you on Marlene shoes, i would love a review. are they really only 3 1/4 high with platform? They look taller...
ReplyDeleteI saw the Nottingham boots IRL. They don't look as nice as the pictures in the catalog. They looked cheap to me. Been eying the Frye boot (style Veronica). I have always heard how uncomfortable JC shoes are. I love the styles but just can't justify spending close to $300 on a pair of uncomfortable shoes just so I can look stylish but am hurting like hell inside. Plus, my line of work a comfortable shoe goes a looong way; makes the day nice. I stick with companies that specialize in making shoes. JC should stick to making clothes, IMO.
ReplyDeleteMath Teacher,
ReplyDeleteWould love to have your online PS but I did some "investigating" through some contacts and what I stated is the real policy. Glad you get your discount but I did not order the items on promo I wanted b/c of not getting one anymore.
Genny, that is absolutely not true, and I am sorry that they are putting you through this hassle, but the educator's discount is absolutely valid on promo items, just not those ending in .99. I would call and insist. I repeatedly get my educator's discount applied to promo items.
ReplyDeleteI am very interested in the Elsbeth oxfords. They are catalog only and I would love any info about them. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSara I have the Elsbeth Oxfords and I really like them. They are cut low all the way around, a bit like a dancer's shoe and the leather is good. I ordered a half size larger than I typically do simply because I might would wear socks. They fit great.
ReplyDeleteLaura: Very helpful, thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteAnyone else care to weigh in on the Nottingham tall (flat) boots? Wendy commented that they looked cheap to her. I was pretty much set to order them. I wonder if I need to size up from my normal 7 1/2? I have narrow calves though and every size bigger increases the calf measurement.
ReplyDeleteI got my normal size in both the flat and high heeled Glenbraes and they both fit well, whether I wear them with tights or thicker socks. Then again, I wear a 10 and sizing up is not an option... if it was I would almost always need a 10.5 in JCrew shoes. But not the Glenbraes. They are quite wonderful.
ReplyDeleteCheesygoodness:
ReplyDeleteI have a brown pair of cossettes in a size 10, which is snug so a good 9 1/2. If you are interested in a trade or buying them let me know. I've worn them twice.
OT, but I received some items from the INSIDER promo and wanted to review:
ReplyDelete1. Bling-button cardi - TTS, color cherry is gorgeous. Shorter cut, more like a long-sleeved Jackie if that makes sense. However, the 'bling' were cheap plastic buttons that were VERY hard to fasten/undo, it's 45% acrylic, and completely see-through. If it goes down to $19.99 I may reconsider only because the color is finally the true red I've been waiting for.
2. Merino microstripe turtleneck - again, fit is TTS, not too long, small stripe pattern is cute, but the pewter/ivory one is completely see-through. The stitching on one cuff looked like it was starting to come unraveled. This will be going back as well.
Now, the good:
3. Cotton tuxedo shirt - finally, something NOT see through! This was very nice, TTS with a slightly boyfriend fit, which I like - if you wanted it more fitted, size down.
4. Cropped ripstop cargo pant - surprisingly, I really liked these. I had some hesitation after I ordered and read the description that said "we love how the color changes in the puckered seams". Ick! However, the seams on my pair looked nice. These were also TTS and will be great for weekends. Hmmm, maybe the puckering occurs after you attempt to wash/dry them...
And the not sure:
5. Stadium-cloth Friday coat - I got this in the heather graphite and sized up to accomodate chunky sweaters/blazers underneath. I love the color and the soft feel of the stadium-cloth (which I admit, does not seem as thick as previous years). It is a bit narrow in the shoulder and honestly, looks a little bit funny buttoned up because of the vertical seams over the boob area (maybe this is a reason it's not shown buttoned up in the catalogs - also, you gotta be able to see the 10 layers of stuff underneath!). I also think that it is a tad more A-line than the online item picture suggests, which leads me to think that it's probably pinned in the back on the mannequin. I was thinking of giving it another try and sizing down, but not for FP. There are better (read: older) stadium cloth coats on eBay for half the price.
Hope this can help someone!
Are there any no minimum free shipping codes anymore? I got a pop back this morning, but can't find a code. :(
ReplyDeleteA., thanks for the offer! I'm usually 8 1/2 to 9, so usually a 9 in JC peep toes, but thanks anyway! Still waiting for the price to drop, I'm not holding my breath.
ReplyDeleteOn J. Crew shoes...
ReplyDeleteI've been sizing down 1/2 size on the flats, but the last flats were from Fall 08. It takes a couple of short (sometimes painful) wearings before they break in.
I've been sizing up 1/2 size on heels but noticed some shoes I tried this summer I should have sized up a full size.
On the driving mocs, I size down a full size because of the inevitable stretching. It still happens, however.
Agreed- J. Crew shoes can be tricky. Insoles help a lot.
My most comfortable pairs? The Glenbrae boot with a heel and the Serengeti sling-backs and the driving mocs.
Not to beat the topic to death, but I just called and asked about applying my educators discount to the promo-priced boots and was denied. Bummer!! I'm considering calling back and seeing if I can get a different sales rep...but also considering just paying the $212 for the Metropolitan ankle boots. Does anyone have any opinions on these?
ReplyDeleteLynzeeroo, I have the suede version of the Metropolitan booties and I really like them. I got my true size 9 and they fit a bit snug, I would have been fine in a 9.5 too.
ReplyDeletei have the Nottingham tall flats in pony brown and i love them. the leather is very soft and they are very comfortable, i can wear them the whole day and still don't feel like taking them off. they fit tts imo. I think i have average calves i got them in regular and i can tuck in matchstick cords with no problem. they look very simple but do get noticed if you know what i mean. i got a lot of compliments and overall i am very happy with them. I got them in sept (with 20% off) and i've been wearing them a lot. I love the almond shaped toes and the clean line, lack of buckles, studs ect. hth.
ReplyDeleteOT- Silver-Lining, I sent you an email concerning your Stewart Tartan skirt. Is it still available?
ReplyDeletewendysharum@netscape.net
I bought the stadium cloth boulevard trench in gray and I LOVE it. The stadium cloth feels very sturdy and has proved warm thus far. Looks expensive, fits amazingly well. Fits tts, though I sized up to accommodate sweaters.
ReplyDeleteI'm debating over the shearling chalet boots. Thoughts?
I saw the roadster boots on an employee in the Collection store on the Upper East Side and they look amazing. Maybe I should go with those?
Anyone have any sizing input on the Colleens (flats or heels) or the Abby heels? I am typically a size 10, but in J Crew, sometimes 11 (since they don't make 10.5 :( ). TIA! :)
ReplyDeleteI tried on the Nottingham tall boots (flat), and they fit TTS. I have average sized calves, and they fit perfectly with a tiny bit of room to accomodate skinny jeans.
ReplyDeleteThey felt very comfy. I'm waiting for further price reductions, though.
Any verdict on the Metropolitan ankle booties? I can't find them in B&M to try on.
I just got the Bronwyn two-toned midheel boots! I originally wanted the black flat-heeled Nottingham boots, but they were out of those in black extended calf in my size...same goes for my second choice, the Cadogan black flat heeled extended calf in my size. But the two-toned Bronwyns are beautiful and my mom pointed out that it's a good investment and it's only a mid-heel, so I won't get that tired. It was really expensive originally (375 dollars!) but I just got back from a trip to France and for the same quality, the shoes I saw in Paris were around 600 euros, which is completely unaffordable and out of the question for me. I was very close to getting the Templeton (flat, extended calf, black) but it would've been backordered until 1/10/10, and I would've been way too impatient for them.
ReplyDeleteI really wanted a pair of black boots but I feel like these are very special looking and I hope they fit when they arrive! If anyone has any questions, reply to my post and I'll respond when I get them!
silverlining, I really appreciate your review of the Stadium cloth Friday coat. I'm holding out hope it'll go on sale eventually. I love the cut and color.
ReplyDeletewow, what's with all the recent sales? Are they trying to get people to spend before the thanksgiving shopping rush?

ReplyDeleteOT, Lighthouse Place WI Crewlet has 50% off all coats through Tuesday, and there are some cute ones if anyone is looking. Some appear to be made-for-Crewlet but I saw some Madelines from last year in red and that bright pink. Clearance is 30% off. They had several black boucle Penny jackets from 08, the real thing, $228 pricetag still on, for 69.97 minus 30%. I forgot how cute and Chanel-like it is, a little boxy but for $48 I'll take it. Reminded me of the old gorgeous-jacket days ... Bella,Maggie.
ReplyDeleteI just got an email that says the "harvest" free shipping code ends tomorrow, not 11/30. Even checked the fine print and it too has changed. What gives? Are they going to start changing the rules of promotions now half-way through the specified period as well????? seems like a surefire way to anger loyal customers. it sure has left a bad taste in my mouth...
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend ended up ordering the roadsters for me, in an 8.5, as an "early" X-mas present :) (thanks for the input btw, Casey!). They're back-ordered until after Christmas, though, so if the 8.5s don't work out, I wonder if there'll be any left for an exchange... ohhh welll.
ReplyDeletepixelant,
ReplyDeleteI don't think things are selling well at JCrew right now. At least according to my SA in the store...stores don't have sales if things are selling well....marketing 101.
Molly,
ReplyDeleteI had something backordered until Dec. 28th and it came on Friday!
Does anyone here already have the Starlight Sylvia heels? How does it fit? Do you really need to size up? I'm usually a little smaller than 6 1/2 for J.Crew heels depending on the style. TIA!
ReplyDeleteHi, I know this is a super old convo, but does anyone have pictures of the two toned mid heel Bronwyn boots on? I would like to see what they look like on an actual person as this style is old and I cant find anyone that has them in the stores so I can try on. I want to see others wearing it before I take the leap to purchase online
ReplyDeletethanks!! <3
