Sneak Peek for J.Crew's 2009 Holiday Collection
A big "thanks!" to Slastena (check out her amazing "About All and Nothing at All" blog) who was kind enough to share several preview images of J.Crew's latest Holiday 2009 collection! :) There is something for everyone: men, women, and kids.
As mentioned in the November 8th "Crewcuts Email: crewcuts new arrivals (gifts galore) + free shipping. In stores and online." post, the Crewcuts catalog is already available online to view (click here). And from the looks of it, the new women's and men's catalog is shot in Chile too. {Que Fantastico!} :)
A few JCAs on this blog mentioned the new Holiday roll-out will be happening soon (some say tomorrow, some say next week, I don't know for sure). What I do know is that I look forward to browsing the new catalog! :)
What are your thoughts on the items slated for upcoming Holiday 2009? Are you excited or disappointed? Which items do you love or would leave? ;)

Thanks so much, Slastena, for the photos (and thanks to Alexis for posting)! While I LOVE the imagery of the models out in the wintery woods (LOVE! It harkens back to the J.Crew of olde when they still had Fair Isle Sweaters and warm woolen mittens...) There is nothing and I mean nothing in any of those pictures that I have any inkling to buy. Even on sale. Even on super-sale. It all just looks so uncomfortable and overly trendy. Blah.
ReplyDeleteActually....if they could start making the Crewcuts in adult sizes. I would probably buy a lot of those styles. Not sure what it says about me that I'm so totally into the children's fashions. I, uh, don't like trends? That must be it!
ReplyDeleteI know this has been discussed before, but I'm curious if the crewcuts size 12 for girls (the largest size) is at all wearable for women? If anyone has bought a sweater at that size and worn it comfortably, please share. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has just outgrown a size 12 in crewcuts. The SA told us the dresses in particular run larger. My daughter is about 5' and 100 lbs. - she cannot quite fit into junior size clothes. Wish crewcuts would come in a 14/16!
ReplyDeleteLove the peacock colored taffeta skirt. Cute! But will I buy it? No! Cause I don't need such a thing!
ReplyDeleteI heard from PS at JCrew.com that new roll out will be on the 12th (Thursday). They preordered the side-zip cardi for me, although the color choices are now navy, black or fog.

ReplyDeleteLooks similar to the Holiday 2007 in Argentina (as in atmosphere, clothes, maybe. Not enough seen to tell).
ReplyDeleteThank you Slastena and Alexis for sharing the preview photos.
ReplyDeleteI rather like the Astrid-looking jacket in camel with the Aran scarf and hat but that is it. I already have boucle Astrids in fuschia and black that I don't wear quite as often as I thought I would so I definitely don't need another. I like the style and fabric, Astrid just didn't become as much a fav as Maggie, Bella and Ecole styles.
Slogging my way through Europe these days and have received many compliments on several J.Crew pieces, not worn all together of course: navy cotton Bistro pants, camel Maggie, royal purple Jackie twinset, pewter long cotton-cashmere shawl cardigan (can't remember the name), wool herringbone bucket hat and perfect fit shirts - someone even asked if they could buy the fall paisley perfect fit shirt from me. And this was in a very upscale office. Crazy. No J.Crew footwear on this trip and I regret not bringing my flat Glenbraes as everywhere I look I see riding boots. Oh well, not a problem for me to walk around in heels all day and night.
I'm about halfway through my wardrobe now so we'll see what else gets attention over here. Nice to have some versatile pieces, love my J.Crew basics. Wishing for a few more "must-haves" in the fall/winter rollouts.
Thank you Slastena and Alexis! I can't wait to see more. What I've seen so far is a little 'meh' for my taste.
ReplyDeleteOT: I received a mailer from Talbot's today with 2 discount cards in it: one for me and one to give away. The card is for 20% off entire purchase and $5 shipping if used online. Does anyone want it? Email me at christy.rivers@gmail.com. First come first serve!
ReplyDeleteI'm 5'2" and wear XS and 0 bottom, 0-2 tops.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is 7 and she is tall. I buy her 10 now , they fit fine, a little big, sz 8-9 fits just right. Last year I got her sparkly crewneck cardigan in 10 and it was little big on her. This year I tried it on to see how close she is to steal my clothes. And it fit! SO cute like a cropped 3/4 sleeve way. SO I stole it from her and it's in my closet now. I tried her sherpa hoodie in sz 10 and it is tight but looked OK (3/4 sleeves aagin in a cute way)
Some of sweaters this year run small. I didn't like sz 12 sweaters. All kids tops have tiny armholes, and if you have b**bs(I don't) they won't fit. I can wear some, but I'd rather buy adult's on sale. Crewcuts size 10-12 sell out as soon as they appear. But they are not sturdy enough for kids. My daughter once said, "This tee must be from Crewcuts. Their tee shirts are always so thin"
And Thank you ladies for posting the photos. Closest store is 100 miles away from where I live, so I don't get to see the new arrivals until they update the website.
ReplyDeleteMy SA told me on Sunday that the next "big" rollout is the 19th. HTH!
ReplyDeleteI long for the Holiday styles from a few years ago...there was always cute clutches, skirts, and tops that I coveted. Now, everything is boring. Most things, sweaters are the exception, come in drab colors...some of the outfits look like they're straight from a Dickens novel. Maybe I shouldn't mention another brand on here, but Talbots has a lot of cute stuff lately..they've changed their image A LOT. Still love J Crew, of course, but I just am not loving the past few seasons.
ReplyDeleteHas the slideshow been deleted from Flickr?
ReplyDeleteI want the red plaid tie - how cute is that?!
ReplyDeleteJi, thanks so much for the feedback on size. I'm really liking the sparkly button cardigan (can't think of the name) and was hoping a 12 might fit me. I might give it a try :)
ReplyDeleteOT - will my PS know if I return items to another store - she was great but, once I got everything home, I had second thoughts. Nothing inspiring or special in the bunch. I would hate it if she knew I am taking it all back - is that bad? Do PS's get a comission?TIA.
ReplyDeleteLauren S in addition to Ji's notes re. "stealing" Crewcuts. I buy for my nieces and did fit into one of their size 10 cardis this summer. Sleeves could be a bit short, but I tend to scrunch up anyway. Lengths land at higher to mid-hip. I am 154 cm so 5'2" ish I think, size 2, with a "fried egg" chest tho. I did just buy the boys' Fair Isle vest in 12 (for length since hem is ribbed) to wear under jackets and it fits just fine. Only the v-neck is maybe 2" shorter than an XS women's sweater. If you like the style I'd say give it a go. HTH.
ReplyDeleteThanks Alexis and Slastena!
ReplyDeleteSounds like the attempt to slash inventory and "re-train" customers to buy at FP this year is going to backfire, even among the most brand loyal (us), if this represents the holiday offerings to come, and other retailers continue to offer better incentives for very cute things.
I am craving right now: wintry woolen sweaters and scarves, a party skirt, a fancy clutch WITHOUT a bow, and a beautifully tailored tweed or herringbone jacket. Sigh.
With other retailers (Emily, I'll second your mention of Talbots - also a place where Mrs. O shops, btw - and especially so Ann Taylor the last few months) offering far more interesting pieces, IMO, and incentives, j.crew has retrained me to look elsewhere. Looks like that will continue through the holidays, which is disappointing, because I am a girl who just loves the holidays (but listen local radio stations: Boo for going 24/7 Christmas music already. Too early - way too early).
ReplyDeleteThe cover of the 2007 holiday cat. featured a model wearing a pink chiffon skirt, black coat, knit hat, snow boots, and she was smiling and leaning back against a giant snowball, her arms stretched out. I miss that sort of joyful irreverence in the catalogs, and it doesn't look like it's back for holiday 2009.
Thanks Slastena for the photos! :-)
ReplyDeleteTotally OT, but I just got home from the Collection store holiday event. It was great! Lots of wait staff serving wine and hor dourves, alot of SA on the floor to help with sizing/searching for items, etc. It was pretty crowded, if I had to guess I would say about 30-45 people. Everyone was super friendly, and best of all Jenna was there! She looked great, and was taller than I expected her to be! She was wearing black Minnie pants (at least they looked like Minnies to me), the blue and white cottom check shirt, military jacket in olive green, black ankle booties, a colorful statement necklace (didn't look like JC to me), and a fuzzy scarf. She was approachable, introducing herself to people, although I didn't speak with her personally. I wanted to introduce myself after I checked out at the register, but she was helping someone with jewelry, and I was too beat and hot to wait.... it was smoldering in there! But, perhaps the best part of the experience (besides the 15% off) was the lovely gift that was included in my bag... a silver JC box, tied with a grey grosgrain ribbon.... a long gold necklace with multi sized creamy gold pearls and a little bling in between.... so pretty! I checked the JC site, it's not there, so I wonder if it's a retail only necklace? The boxes were behind the register, so I think you got one if you made a purchase. I picked up several things: Heirloom flora earrings in crystal, Gunmetal matelassé skirt, Glimmer pocket cardigan, and a open merino cardigan in a honey glaze with sequins down the front... I don't see this online, but so pretty! Also came in a purple lavendar color. Style # 20377, $138. It seemed to be pretty popular amongst the ladies there tonight. All in all, I'm so glad that I went, and really appreciate events like this being thrown by JC! :-)
Marietta,
ReplyDeletePost pics of the instore stuff if you can!
Thanks!
Pakcola - I will take pics and send to Alexis to post on the blog.
ReplyDeletePakcola - I also included a photo of the black/white tweed mini with gold threading, # 20774 $98.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Thanks so much, can't wait to see the honey glaze cardi!
ReplyDeleteOT, but marietta, i was at the collection store event too! way crowded and hot, but well worth it. jenna actually approached me--i was wearing my coveted tiered lace cami and she came up to me and asked how i got it--apparently even she couldn't get one and she jokingly (or at least i think she was joking!) offered to buy it off my back! hmm...i think we could have struck some sort of deal! ;)
ReplyDeletei came home w/that pink mohair coat (it's a bit shocking and likely not for everyone but i love it!), the same sequin mustard open cardi mentioned before, the feathery vest (again, not for everyone but i love the quirky items) and some jewelry--also preordered a bunch--an ombre coat, sequined skirt, sequined tank (i'm all about shine lately!), bow mini, and one more top that i can't recall the name of right now--i'm shopped out!
a fun night, but i think my credit card needs a rest now :)
ps...i'm pretty sure the necklace jenna was wearing was one of those 'one of a kind' bird of paradise necklaces tht was featured in october's catalog
I was at the Collection Store event too. I was going to buy that same sequin cardigan in the lavender, but they told me they don't carry XL in the collection store, and it was already a cropped fit so it was just not going to work. I bought a single flower pin for $12 b/c I wanted to get the gift they had behind the counter to people who were making purchases. They did graciously give me the necklace too despite my sparse purchase. I was a little disappointed with the offerings b/c I expected there to be new stuff but there was not item I had not seen either online or in another store (I saw that sequin cardi in black at the 45th and Madison store).
ReplyDeleteJenna seemed to be pretty friendly and as Marietta mentioned was dressed in her quirky way. Was doing the whole ankle socks thing. There were, however, some regular ladies there trying to pull off JC styling quirks but just looked like fashion victims!
I miss everything about the J.Crew in the new header; I remember that catalog so vividly, and wanted everything! Gorgeous, fun, functional and well-constructed.
ReplyDeleteI have the jacket with the gold buttons in black. It was available in a local B&M in September. Loooove it. The gold is lovely as well, and the outfit is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI miss the old J Crew period, the color selection, quality, range of styles, and the customer service. Now it is hit and miss.
ReplyDeleteI'll be stopping into my J.Crew B&M tomorrow, so I hope they have more new arrivals out.
ReplyDeleteSuzy: Are you talking about the Asymmetrical Zip Cardigan?
I like the first outfit. Paired with tights and boots/booties, I could see that being a fun winter outfit. The colors remind me of a Vermeer painting, darks contrasted with a rich jewel tone. I like the skirt for the color - it's different and lends itself to day or night dressing. The 2nd outfit seems pretty trad. And the 3rd, is ok. Seems like the winter white/light thing but nothing remarkable.
ReplyDeleteI love that this catalogue was shot in a beautiful location, not in studio -- I've missed images like these.
ReplyDeleteLoving the camel jacket/sweater with the chunky cable scarf & hat. Can't wait to get the catalogue!!
Am I the only one who can't get past the silly little sock? Is anyone really going to go out of the house wearing those gorgeous shoes with those stupid little socks? It seems that the stylists are trying a bit too hard to improve on themselves. Or perhaps I'm just a bit too "old school" but some of the accessorizing seems forced.
ReplyDeleteMJ
I am the only one who can't get past the silly little socks? I think they just look stupid and it totally ruins the look. IT seems to me the stylists are trying too hard to keep up with themselves and it has gotten away from them a bit. Does anyone agree or am I just a little too "old school"?
