J.Crew Email: What she really wants...(p.s. FREE SHIPPING ends tomorrow)

"Thanks!" to Marietta, Susan, & GoldCoastGal who shared the following news & email J.Crew sent today.

J.Crew is showcasing their jewelry with the caption: "Joy to Jewels. Custom-colored, hand-assembled, one-of-a-kind desings + brilliant gifts". The email image above appears to feature the Pearl Twisted Hammock Necklace (Item 22599; $98.00) with another necklace (which I can't figure out). To shop J.Crew's jewelry selection online, click here.

J.Crew is also reminding us about their shoe sale, with 20% off select Women's shoes and boots (click here to shop online). This offer is available only online and expires tomorrow, 11/23/09, at midnight.

Lastly, the email also reminds us about free shipping on purchases of $150+ with promo code HARVEST. As Kater (in this post) correctly pointed out, J.Crew has changed when this offer expires. Originally, this free shipping offer was to run until 11/30/09 (refer to here). Except, this email & the one sent on Friday (click here to view) state this offer expires tomorrow, 11/23/09. Say what J.Crew? Not sure what to make of this "correction". Personally, I think J.Crew should just honor the original offer (to run until 11/30/09).

What are your thoughts on the new jewelry arrivals? Any pieces interest you? Are you planning to take advantage of the shoe promotion before it expires? What are your thoughts on the HARVEST promo? Will it end tomorrow or on the 30th?

  1. OT: Was wondering Cheesy Goodness what did you find at that the JC outlet store? Any good finds?
If you already blogged about it I somehow missed it....

  2. Hello,
I puchased the Capri sandals for my bridal party and got the 20% off plus I used the student discount for an additional 15%. It can definetely be applied to promo just not the "sale section." if they tell you otherwise ask for a manager or call back again.

    HTH,
    Maria

  3. Heidi, the glitter minaudieres are AWFUL! I carried mine Saturday night to a party, the gold one ... the glitter rubbed off in my hand, onto my black dress, and even onto my DH's suit! And it does feel cheap like cardboard, doesn't even open and close smoothly. I am going to try to return it. Very unhappy. The leather ones were much nicer.

  4. Does anyone here already have the Starlight Sylvia heels? How does it fit? Do you really need to size up? I'm usually a little smaller than 6 1/2 for

  6. OT- I bought the cotton check shirt. Called a local JC store and the SA put it on hold for me. It was the last one. When I came home I noticed that the back had a bunch of pin holes on it. Turns out that the shirt was on display for a long time. When I called the store and told them about the pin holes, the SA said, "we don't sell damaged items" (well, apparently you do and don't even know, I thought). Anyway, I was really annoyed with how lax they are to pass an item as new at full price! I took the shirt back to another store and that SA called CS ask them to check which other stores have it. I will know sometime soon. In the meantime, I am holding on to that holy shirt just in case they might another shirt. I doubt that there is another shirt left since it sold out pretty quickly. Anyway, should I keep this shirt or should I return it? Any suggestions? TIA

  7. Hi Wendy, I don't think you should keep a shirt with pin holes. How are you going to wear it with those holes at the back? If it's not too obvious, I say you should ask for discounts for "damaged" item. Have you called for the "we'll find it for you" request? Maybe they can locate another one for you?

  8. Hi Jean,

I have already used my teacher's discount on this shirt. The SA called CS for the 'we'll find it for you' request. My husband agrees with you...so hard to decide since I really like this shirt and it is sold out on line and in the stores!

Thank you so much for your advice! I appreciate it.

  9. JCrew will not do discounts on "damaged" items. I asked for one once and they said they never offer a discount and instead it's just sent back to the warehouse, where I'm sure it makes it's way over to the lynchburg clearance store. I actually watched the SA take the item and hang it back on the sales floor after I wouldn't pay full price for the damaged item. That was just tacky to me - she should have at least waited until I left the store.

  10. wendy, my $0.02: return it. you don't need to pay J Crew full price for a damaged pc of clothing. all customers deserve better than that. and why would any SA think this is ok to do?
jcrew likes to think of itself as highly quality and fashion conscious. well, most stores of that ilk do not take off display pcs to sell to their customers at full price. when display items do eventually get sold, they're in clearance/liquidation sales, marked as-is and heavily, heavily marked down because of the damage/wear.
besides, isn't this the same shirt still available online in a variety of sizes (though the 0s and 2s seem to be gone if that's what you need)?
what about posting on the weekly looking to find, in case another jca has it and is looking to return/sell?
    good luck!

  11. Gracefully,

Thank you so much for your comments. I totally agree with you on all counts. Yes, JC likes to think that they are above all that, but from what I experienced they are not. Yes, that shirt should have gone on the sale section or the SA who put it on hold for me should have mentioned it.

Thank you for your suggestions as well. I never thought about posting in the weekly looking to find or return/sell. Great idea!

    Thanks again,

    Wendy

  12. Summerilla,

Some of the JC staff are just unprofessional at times. Poorly trained too. Sorry that you were so rudely treated. Should not happen to anyone who walks in the store, but unfortunately it does.

  13. OT: Those who have tried the Long Puffer coat: Is it warm enough for New England winters? Or should I stick with LLBean or Eddie Bauer?

    Thanks!

  14. speaking of j crew jewelry, i'm a huge, huge fan generally. but i was pretty disappointed in the golden-orb ring that's been on sale awhile.
i love the happy, dancing orbs, and thought it would go well with a bunch of jcrew jewelry. but the orbs are altogether too heavy for what is a very thin finger band unlike the more substantial bands found in other jcrew rings. so the ring feels fragile and unwieldy while putting on. i kept fearing i'd snap it in two just trying to slide it over my finger. and once on, too, the heavy orbs attached to thin findings labor under the pull of gravity. but it looks cute on and is quite wearable for short stints and with extreme care, i'd say.
if you get it, you might want to size up - it's a little snug, and the fragility makes it even harder to get on.

    HTH!

  15. Wendy, is it possible the pin holes will close when the shirt is washed? Or you could try pressing the area with a steam iron and see if the pin holes tighten up. That works for little pin holes created by the brooches I sometimes wear.

  16. Heidi and Ruffles, thanks for the warning about the glitter minaudieres... I had my eye on on them for the holidays. What a piece of crap - thank goodness I didn't get them as gifts for people!

That's the other thing - the SAs at my store have been pushing this Shop and Share, I think we've discussed it on JCA before, where you get a group to shop and you get 20% off and your guests gets 20% if they spend $175+. I don't have friends that love JC and even though I could probably get a few people together, I'd be so embarrassed if they ended up with crappy items!

  17. Having been with Summerilla when that incident occurred, I know and have seen with my own eyes damaged items being placed back on the racks. Sigh. I always go over every single piece of clothing from J. Crew with a very wary eye before I clip the price tag out.

That said, I have returned two defective items to the Pentagon City store and explained what was wrong and both times, right in front of me, the sales associate wrote a very clear explanation of the issue, attached it to the item, and placed in an area behind the tills to ensure that the item did not find its way back on the floor. Maybe it depends on the store/associate???

In the end, check every item you receive thoroughly!!! :)

  18. I had that happened to me at BR and the Gap too. I pointed out the defects and both times the items went back onto the table.

  19. Wendy,

It is just a cotton shirt. Unless the holes are more like tears, a little spritz with water and an a touch up with a hot iron should fix the issue.

  20. iwish4jcrew, I'm heading to the Birch Run outlet tomorrow morning, I'll post later in the afternoon when we get to my MIL's.

Heidi, I had the worst luck with a JC glitter headband. Same thing, it just flaked in the worst way. Total crap product, I'll never by a thing like that from them again.

Wendy, I think the pinholes will close after a washing or steaming. I used to live by the Abercrombie clearance store and they sold tons of mannequin clothes full of pinholes and folds. They slashed the prices pretty extravagantly, and they turned out ok if the holes weren't ripped open (which they were in many cases!) That said, knowing you won't get a discount for a damaged item, if you love it and have to keep it, maybe you could write an email to CS to let them know that that policy isn't the greatest. I didn't realize that they didn't do any discount, probably because they'd end up writing in an extra percent off for half of their stuff!

  21. And what the heck is up with no sale update today? Isn't this "cyber Monday?"

  22. Jeanne-

The nice SA at another JC store did steam the shirt for me and it looks pretty ok now. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Have a good day,

    Wendy

  23. Kitsmommy and Cheesygoodness,

Thank you for your advice. The nice SA did offer to steam the shirt and now it looks so much better. JC did find another shirt for me after CS did the 'we'll find it for you' request, so I will be returning that defective shirt. Hopefully, the next person who buys that shirt knows the problem.

  24. Wendy,
If the shirt was washed I am sure the holes would come out if they were just straight pin holes to begin with. Happens when you put a pin in any shirt. Wash it and it disappears. No biggie.

  25. I purchased some men's items for the husband and I thought of putting some comments in case anyone plans on buying any of them.. I ordered the Oilcloth langham's jacket and it looks nothing like whats online. Its a very light jacket and looks so usual it could have easily been a lands end item. I also got the Barbour jacket. It looks good when on , a very smart jacket but hubby and I got wax all over our hands which obviously wouldnt wash off with just water. Barbour jackets are waxed cotton , but are they supposed to feel sticky and leave wax everywhere ? I would like more knowledge on this... Anyway, I ended up returning both those jackets.

  26. Genny-

Thanks for the advice. It does look better now that it was steamed. Can't even tell.

    Wendy

  27. I'm so glad your cotton check shirt looked better after steaming. I wore my Crosby Coat all weekend, the one with the ginormous hole in the pocket when it arrived NEW last week. I love the coat, it's light weight and I wore a white shirt and cardigan under it, which few coats will allow you to do when they are heavier. I stopped at J. Crew to mention the big pocket hole and the SA agreed the quality is a bit of a problem. She wanted to have it addressed, replace the coat, etc. but I just don't want to go through the hassle, plus, it was the coat I was wearing. The quality is such a problem lately!

  28. Laura,

Your outfit sounds so chic! I am glad you had someone at JC who wanted to help you out with your problem. It always makes you feel better, doesn't it? Well, hopefully the quality improves for the next year. We all know JC needs to be better in that department. Sorry to hear about a hole in a coat! JC's coats and jackets are usually of higher quality.

  29. Thanks Wendy and you're right, it is normally better and this may be a one-off, I'm really hoping!
