First and foremost... Happy Thanksgiving Day everyone! It's the time of year where we can spend time with our loved ones and enjoy a fantastic meal. It also officially starts the Holiday season. :)
Per JCA tradition, this post is to find out what everyone is going to wear. I find it really interesting to see what other Aficionadas and Aficionados plan on wearing (and of course it gives me lots of wonderful ideas for future outfits). :) So for this post, what we are planning to wear on Thanksgiving Day? :)
For tomorrow, I plan on going casual but chic. I am going to go with my Double-faced Wool Lexington Jacket (in white with yellow trim) with the New Dream Griffin Crest Crewneck Sweater (in grey). This outfit is finished off with a pair of J.Crew's Trouser Jeans (in Dark Wash) and Lucia Suede Ballet Flats (in mustard yellow). [If the jacket/sweater combo looks a bit familiar, it is because I turned to a page of J.Crew's catalog for inspiration. That is right, I am semi-recreating one of the outfits featured in a catalog from 2007.] :)
What are you planning to wear this Thanksgiving Day? Are you planning to go "head to toe" J.Crew or parts J.Crew?
Alexis I haven't figured out what I'm wearing yet but I LOVE the outfit you have chosen, every single piece!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this blog! I have made purchases based on other JCA recommendations and saved money (and spent more) by getting codes earlier rather then when they arrived later in the day. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I am so jealous of your lovely head to toe J Crew! Super cute!
ReplyDeleteCute outfit!
ReplyDeleteIf I were hosting or going to dinner somewhere *normal* I would wear my 2007 JC chocolate velvet pants with a cashmere tee, homemade autumn leaf necklace, and my 2006 chocolate and rust paisley store-only D'Orsay high heels. But, my in-laws make guests remove their shoes and go barefoot on the hardwood floors, brrr! So I will wear chocolate cords and warm socks instead. Should I tell them that yes, many cultures expect guests to remove their shoes, but in those countries hosts offer slippers? Oh well, at least I don't have to cook.
I purchased the cashmere Fiori dress a few weeks ago in black. I'd like to wear that, some cute black patterned tights and a pair of mid calf motorcycle boots, also black. I'll look a little like the angel of death, but a warm, cashmere wrapped one, I guess.
ReplyDeleteJCAs: Happy Thanksgiving {tomorrow}! :)
ReplyDeleteLaura & Heidi: Thank you so much for those nice words!!! You two are so sweet. I am really grateful for the JCA community too. Everyone is so generous and thoughtful with their comments. Happy Turkey Day! :)
IWish4JCrew: Love your screenname! :) I like the outfit too. I would love to take credit for the top combo, but it came from one of J.Crew's 2007 catalogs. Where J.Crew's layering was more realistic. ;)
Hexicon: The d'Orsay heels sound amazing!!! As for barefoot on wood floors, that does sound very cold (your warm socks is a very good idea!) :)
NoCrewInJapan: Your outfit sounds great. And the cashmere dress is both comfortable and stylish! :)
LOL, I have that same catalog page! At various times I collected the blazer (in black) and the sweater because they were good deals on eBay or the resale shop, but they didn't fit. :(
ReplyDeleteI'll prolly wear a J Crew cardi with the awesome sequin tank that ATL currently has...and hope I don't glob food all over it.
I am cooking tomorrow, so I will be wearing an apron covering my Maya dress, tights, and Glenbraes. Your outfit is one of my FAVES from 2007 Alexis!
ReplyDeleteA good update this morning ... got a Selby Satchel and Tivoli cardi w 20% off and FS. Happy Thanksgiving all!
Happy Thanksgiving, Alexis and Everyone!
ReplyDeleteAlexis, love the outfit. My SA was wearing her Lexington the other day and we were touting it's virtues extensively. And don't get me started on the Lucias...only the most perfect flats ever.
I'm finishing packing for my 4-State Holiday Day tour....2 weeks of J. Crew Outfits in a carry-on! I used Polyvore to help me organize but don't think I'll finish. I'll post what I have so far.
As for the actual day at my Aunt & Uncles in New Jersey, I think it will be my (NEW!) Charcoal Minnies, Serengeti Sling Backs, Anton, and something fabulous underneath..tbd.
Enjoy!
Nicole: That image from the catalog is so beautiful. If I remember correctly (because I don't have the catalog anymore), the model is holding up a postcard and looking great! :)
ReplyDeleteRuffles: Your outfit, including apron, sounds great! :) And congrats on the Selby!
Crew Cricket: Love me the Lexington too! Your outfit to the Aunt & Uncles sounds great! I can't believe you have a 4-state tour- sounds like fun! Safe travels!!! :)
Does anybody know how sizing at martin+osa compares to jcrew? I wear xs at jcrew, looked at martin
ReplyDelete+osa sizing chart and it seems like I should go with S. Any advice?
I love the celebrating with J. Crew posts! I am wearing matchstick cords in aubergine with juliet hells in the pumpkin (sounds weird I know but orange hues and purple shades are my favorites together) and a funny t-shirt that my husband just bought me. It is navy blue and it says I LOVE TURKEY on it, because, well, I do. The lettering on the shirt perfectly matches my heels and there is a heart on it that ties in cutely with the color of my cords. It is going to be 60 degrees tomorrow so I probably will not need a sweater or anything like that, especially since we will be home. It is my very first year hosting and cooking for everyone alone. I hope you all have a great day and a happy, happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteYour blog post pic reminds me of the J.Crew of old (circa 2007). I have the Lexington jkt too...love mine (2 colors) and SAs in the stores do too :) And I wish they still made the cashmere long sleeve tees with the graphics on them...Oh well. Happy Thanksgiving everyone :) I still enjoy this blog and made one of my very nicest pen (email) friends through this.
ReplyDeleteAlexis, many thanks for the blog! I'm wearing my snow-leopard Harlow blouse, some imitation Minnie pants (not as tight) from Ralph Lauren bought on sale, my lovely Madewell patent oxfords, and a sweater bought for me by a family member who will be there ;-)
ReplyDeleteNPR had a brief piece on Michelle Obama's "long coattails" effect on clothing makers. They said J. Crew sales were up and profits doubled over same quarter last year. . .
I think I'll wear my standard J Crew male sales associate uniform: dark selvage jeans or charcoal wool slacks, plaid shirt, dark tie, and blue vest.
ReplyDeleteFinish it off with a pair of caramel wingtips.
Gone are the days when men actually wore a tie for Holidays, but I'm sticking to tradition.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your outfit choice for Turkey Day! Thanks for a great blog. It's been extremely helpful with purchased I have made. Have a great holiday!
ReplyDeleteElena, regarding your JC vs. Martin & Osa sizing query, I only have tops, but I wear an XS in both brands. M&O is a bit more snug and sometimes slightly shorter, but I am 5'2" and I find JC tops getting "oversized" and longer in many cases - as in if I can find an XXS in JC these days that's what I buy. I would only size up to an S if you are taller or have a "chest." If looking at bottoms, check with the fab Shannon at her www.wardrobereview.com blog. Enjoy the greeting and feasting all!
ReplyDeleteJB I long for the days when men wore stylish ties too; way to go!
ReplyDeleteFidele, how do you like your Madewell Patent Oxfords? I wore my Elsbeth Oxfords this last weekend and just loved them with jeans, a frilly top and cardigan. They were so pretty and shiny that I polished the leather again after I took them off just to keep them nice. Now the Madewell ones are gone although we only had the one pic of those.
I'm torn between two outfits: it will either be the shimmer paisley dress with the leather equestrian belt (plus a leather blazer in the same saddle color as the belt if I'm away from the kitchen enough to get chilly) OR the cinnamon stick pencil skirt with the herringbone Frances cami and a black Jackie sweater. I'd wear brown pumps with the former and black pumps with the latter. I figure it's the last opportunity to wear the perfect autumn outfit before the switch to holiday/winter colors, so I can't decide. One of the things I'm thankful for is a recently restocked closet!
ReplyDeleteGet Fresh, thank you. I already placed an order and I went with small, because someone else recommended it. I checked their measurements against jcrew measurements and it seems M+O indeed have smaller cuts for women and larger for men. Also, XS at jcrew fits snug on me, I def cant fit into XXS, so I guess you have a smaller frame. I am also 5'5''. I def hope my sweaters would fit!
ReplyDeleteOhh, I love reading these posts! I love your old school JC Alexis, I'm sure you'll look great! I'll be wearing a grey dress from Anthro with a JC cashmere cardi in warm mustard over it, with black and grey check tights and black mary janes.
ReplyDeleteOT: Ruffles, have you posted a review of the Maya dress? I haven't read anything about it so far and was wondering how the merino is holding up?
I remember that picture, well, Alexis - one of many delightfully styled shots in that seminal catalogue :-)
ReplyDeleteI'll be wearing my stella tweed skirt, a cream knit pullover, gold/pearl jewelry, tights, and brown boots. In the short run from car to house, plan to top outfit with cream puffer vest with flower pin attached.
I love your outfit picked out, Alexis...very classy and cute!
ReplyDeleteI haven't figured out what I'll be wearing tomorrow since I'll be spending time cooking the bird...
I'm thinking of wearing my Evening Primrose cami and the waterfall cardi in spicy olive color.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I will be wearing my dream argyle dress from 2007 (another shout out fot that same 2007 Paris Catalog!!) with a white cotton ruffled button down under it with brown boots. Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving everyone!!
Alexis - I love your outfit! I'll be in ATL head to ankle :) wearing my new textured sequins tee in shadow grey (love this tee!), petal detail v-neck cardi in dark grey, and modern slim jeans. I'll be at my parents' house all day, so I'll be in socks for most of the day.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy tomorrow!
Cute outfit, Alexis! Have a great holiday weekend :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm cooking and probably won't wear a stitch of J Crew. Wouldn't want to muss it up.
I put together an outfit today I am very pleased with. It is the elizabeth ruffle shirt in white, tucked into the matchstick jeans in dark rinse. I also wore a j.crew skinny patent black belts, a j.crew pearl cluster bracelet, and the j.crew wool twille nouvelle jacket in gray/heather color. the outfit came out surprisingly preppy in nice neutral colors. what do u think? is there a way i can upload pictures?
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving everyone! I will be wearing my Sanibel Crawford blouse over a cream seamless cami, downtown trouser cords in glazed pecan, and patent mary janes in raisin. For accessories, I will wear the heirloom flora earrings in butterscotch and an oversize gold ring with soft blossom stones. All JCrewed out!
ReplyDeleteLove your outfit Alexis. Happy Thanksgiving to you and all the JCAs!
ReplyDeleteLove the sweater you're wearing Alexis. Griffins are a favorite sweater pattern for me.
ReplyDeleteI wore jeans and my jaspe sweatshirt with runners for our family touch football game today, then traded jaspe for a mauve perfect fit tee and camel Maggie, a pair of Chie Mihara heeled boots to finish the look.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Today I also wore my Lexington blazer, the light gray with white piping. Under it I wore this season's new cambridge cable v-neck sweater in heather charcoal with the collar of a very thin white perfect shirt popping out. I finished it off with my crystal libretto necklace around the neckline. I wore my very comfortable black minnie pants and a pair of polka dot carmen heels from last winter (the grayish brown with silver dots).
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
All jc except the shoes: lt. green cashmere crewneck sweater, bronzed twig serge pencil skirt, orange tights, cognac oxfords (steve madden).
