Review of a couple things from the Kate Spade New York ♥ Gap Kids collaboration: the "Are We There Yet?" tote bag and girl's bow wool coat.
ReplyDeleteSome Madewell reviews:
ReplyDeleteField Parka (b2759) - The shape is exactly as it looks on the website - big and kind of A-line/flare-y. My usual S was just too big. The faux-mink lining felt awesome, but the rest of the coat was underwhelming. What's bizarre is that the lining in the arms was not sewn into the sleeves, so you could scrunch the outer sleeve all the way up to the elbows and have the lining and cuff still cover the arms. I don’t understand why that wasn’t sewn in… it makes the coat feel unfinished. The color was a little less olive than the online pic. If the sleeves were sewn, I may consider this in a smaller size at a more substantial discount.
Flannel oversized button-down in heather cloud (b5225) - Based on the reviews, I sized down to XS and that was the right choice. I liked the fit and that it had side pockets. I did not like the large patch pockets on the chest, which made it feel too masculine. Actually, the fabric and the cut reminded me of my dad’s LLBean chamois shirts from the 80’s. It was definitely soft, but I’d say bordering pilling. If there were no chest pockets, I may have kept it.
Barbour deck turtleneck sweater (b1471) - I wanted to give this a try in the hopes that I could just get a nice, well-made ivory turtleneck sweater and be done with it. First, it was almost impossible to find and confirm measurements for this sweater, which was a pain. I ended up with a size 8 (the tag on the sweater read UK12) but think that I could’ve sized down (I’m a pretty solid S/4 in JC shirts and sweaters). This sweater was so long that it easily covered my butt and I could’ve worn it as a (short) sweater dress. The knit was okay, not as thick as the Aran Knits/Blarney Mills sweaters that JC had last year but not see-through, either. Despite the website description of “USA”, the tag said “Made in Turkey”.
Billie boot (03822) - I think that these are really great boots, but I’m torn on the sizing. I’m consistently a 9 in shoes and boots. I ordered these in an 8.5 and a 9 based on reviews, and the 8.5 is slightly snug and the 9 is slightly big. Neither of them are just right and for the price I’m feeling like I should just return them both, which is unfortunate because I love the pecan color, the heel height, and the style. I just don’t want to end up with unwearable shoes. My 2015 wish for retailers is that they could get more consistent with sizing - it’s been such a pain, especially with shopping online.
JOE FRESH....plenty of J crew like pieces....
ReplyDeleteBoden is in the midst of a 25% off everything sale (with free ship and returns). Though I know their Cyber Monday/Black Friday deals are likely to be better, I can say that if you like something that is sold out (and pops back) or about to sell out, this is a decent savings, especially considering more popular items tend to not be reduced by much at clearance time. The sale ends tomorrow night (11/13/14).
ReplyDeleteMore on it here at this blog post.
I went to Target last night and Mossimo has some cute fair isle leggings. They are a cotton blend so probably not as warm as the jcrew pair but maybe more comfortable if you're sensitive to wool (and definitely cheaper!). They had a really cute pair with foxes on them.
ReplyDeleteTJ Maxx has an online store, and if you sign up to receive their emails, they'll send you a unique code for free shipping on your order.
ReplyDeleteOld Navy - CHEER gets 35% off & free 2-day shipping thru 11/18. Review of 5 coats and the plaid pants you might've seen on blogs or Instagram. The pea coat nets $19.50 in wine. I reviewed the camel color.
ReplyDeleteKate Spade - You can get the pink or silver glitter Keds for $80 + 25% off w/BEMERRY thru 11:59pst tonite. Review of the gold glitter.
