"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. How about a search engine on the JC factory site? It would be nice to have.

  2. I put the Circle Eyelet Dress in my cart, and it says ship date 7/9/2012. Why on earth would I want to wait 4 months for a dress? I bet I could make one by then, even if I had to cut out all the little circles myself...

    1. lol! I know. I saw a waitlist date for the cafe capris in wool for 7/10/12. Ridiculous. FA12 would be in stores in a week or two at that point.

    2. Claire, check out my review on Circle Eyelet Dress HERE, maybe you are not missing out much after all.

  3. @ Claire and Gigi: Oh, that is just silly. Why do they even bother putting things on the website when the ship date is 4 months away? I'm tempted to call CS and ask them why J.Crew does this (or, I would if I wasn't at work).

  4. Whitney etc. -

I had the same thought when I put some kids tights (from winter, now final sale) into my cart. The ship date was July! Weird for a style of tights that they are unlikely to continue next season.

  5. A bit OT but Jenna Lyons pictured on the WHOWHATWEAR site as a "fashion insider" and guess what? She is not wearing a drop of J.Crew. Hmmmmm ... Methinks her aspirations have risen beyond us.

  6. Jenna also a subject of "the Sartorialist" in the same outfit. People are certainly watching her closely. A "brand ambassador" opportunity missed. Haha.

    1. OK, I looked at both pictures. Sorry, this is not a great outfit. This is what you wear when the airline has lost your luggage.

  7. Just received my email 3/14, about the 30% off Final Sale a full day after the sale started. I did hear about it of course on this blog but that's kinda rude on JCrew to send out 1 day late.

    1. I just got mine too! But I won't complain too much because up until very recently I didn't get them at all...

    2. Weird - I get jc emails at several email addresses. Some got this notice yesterday. Some got this both days. Maybe that same glitch that wouldn't take off the 30% yesterday happened with emails too!

  8. My vent is about extreme photoshopping and deceiving catalog presentation.
Remember the purple dress from recent preview from Slastena? Well, check out my review of this dress HERE to see what I mean.

    1. omg! that is just too much. and they wonder why ppl get bent when something shows up in the mail and it's not at all the color you were expecting! dang!

  9. ajc, ITA about the misleading colors etc. I liked the dress in the catalog pic b/c I thought it was a pink/purple floral print at a decent length. Now that it looks like it is orange/red apples in a tunic length it is a major pass for me. If they think the dress looks better the way they photoshopped it, why didn't they just make it like that to begin with?

  10. haha, after reading ajc's reviews I don't really care that the circle eyelet dress is waitlisted because now I don't want it....for some reason it didn't strike me as so short-waisted on the model, but that's probably because she's wearing one several sizes too big and gathered in the back for the photo.

  11. I'm a bit bothered by the increasing number of "dry clean" items. I know I don't necessarily have to dry clean something if it doesn't say "dry clean only", but aren't the care instructions usually what's best for the garment? But really, J.Crew, shouldn't we be more environmentally friendly and not encourage so much dry cleaning?

  12. Did anyone else see the Sartorialist's photo of Jenna Lyons, followed by all the LOVE comments?!?! WHAT?!? She looks terrible! This is not good fashion, sorry, not at all and absolutely NOT the direction I want J.Crew going in anytime soon: http://images.thesartorialist.com/thumbnails/2012/02/21212JL_8983Web.jpg

    1. I thought exactly the samething when I saw the pic. I thought she looked ridiculous and was expecting the comments to say the same thing. I was shocked to see that so many loved her look.

I started to think that it was just me , and that maybe I just don't know what is in anymore. I am in my early 30s and a mother of two little kids. So I thought, despite trying to keep my wardrobe up ( I do buy jc regularly) maybe I have reached the point where I am just out.

I am so relieved to read all of your posts and find that I am not the only one who thinks jenna does not look amazing. Now I don't feel so out of it.

  14. Claire, Gigi, Whitney, Cousy: That happened to me once with a suckered gingham perfect shirt. I ordered it in July or August for something like $29.99 minus 30% in order to reach a free shipping minimum, and it was backordered to December. In December, I received the "we wish we had enough..." email.

Within a week, the exact same shirt that had just been cancelled (same style number, colour code, everything) was in the New Arrivals section of the website for ~$80. Ridiculous.

(I called and made them send it to me for the sale price plus percent off, with free shipping. Needless to say I was NOT impressed.)

  15. Bless her heart, she certainly is trying hard. That purse is fun....

  16. j. crew really needs to stop wiping out my shopping bag, ei: my wishlist. either that, or leap into the millenium and add a wishlist feature!

  17. why aren't the j crew jeans made in America anymore? is this because of the buy out? the fabric is not as lux as it was and the fit is different. I'm so bummed, i was set on buying the ankle stretch toothpick jeans and they just didnt fit right (there was a BIG gap at the back of jeans along the top hem, i tried on 3 sizes around my normal size, and they all did it.)
