J.Crew Factory Email: A 24-hour style hunt: take 20-40% off the entire site

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Irina, who shared the following email from J.Crew.

J.Crew Factory (click here to shop online) is open and they are offering 20 to 40% off their entire site.

As JCAs know... if you live near a Factory Store, check them out first. The B&M Factory Stores tend to have better promotions and sale prices.

What are your thoughts on J.Crew's Factory offerings? Will you check them out?

  1. My thoughts on the factory offerings? WELL. I put up this comment on the previous thread but it really belongs here.

OK, so the Copywriter from Space doesn't speak English and never got help for her dyslexia, I accept that Dear Leader shows his infinite compassion by keeping her on. OK, so noone at JC speaks French or Italian, I accept that noone at JC went to a high school that required at least 2 years of a language other than English to graduate. But simple math? The Factory Site opens with the statement "TODAY ONLY: ENJOY 20-40% OFF THE ENTIRE SITE." The usual "prices as marked" appears, as well as "details". Nowhere do I see: "um, not really - gotcha!" Nowhere does it say "select items only." I looked at a Girls' dress, marked down from $68 to $64. Let's see: 20% off $68 would be $54.40. Typo? unlikely, 2 dresses are priced like this. There are items with no markdown at all. Please understand, this is not differential calc. This is not solving an equation with 2 unknowns. Oh, wait, maybe in the Crewniverse far far away, it is?

    1. I agree, WFF. I watch the factory site all the time, and what they are advertising is hogwash.

Is the Copywriter from Space a woman? I sometimes wonder.

    2. Rose, I'm pretty sure it's still the lovely and erudite Allison.

    3. Right! I remember that post! :)

  2. WFF - they are heartbreaking in their resoluteness in absolutely NOT doing what they say they will do! I was all excited until I actually looked and came to the same conclusion as you and others.

My favourite is this descriptor by the factory garden skirt in lace (which by the way I bought for this exact same price last weekend):

    was $97.50
    now $91.50
    item 65815

    Sits above waist.
    Back zip.
    Fully lined.
    21 1/2"

    select size SIZE 0 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 size charts

    select color paris pink

    color: paris pink

    now $96.50

THREE different prices for one item!!!! And none of them the equivalent to 20% off!!!!

    sigh....

  3. The factory printed cotton skirts are full price. No discount.

  4. Ha, take 20-40% off the ENTIRE site, except where items are 0% off!

Also, why are they making Factory versions of items that are still on the regular site, like the Natasha top?

  5. I know B&M Factory prices tend to be better than online (especially when their site-wide % off really isn't!) so I wondered if anyone noticed how much the Factory perfect shirt in faded chambray Item 21779 is in store? Thanks! :)

  6. I also noticed the miniscule discounts on many of the items, which don't equate to "at least 20% off", as well as many items which are not discounted at all. It's disappointing.

Anyway, I was wondering if any of the JCAs have seen the pleated maxi skirt (item 65987) in store? I am really curious about the quality and the fit, but the price is a bit steep for a Factory item.

Thanks to everyone who messaged me about the Wilma necklace!

    1. Louise, If you don't mind my asking, what did you learn about the Wilma necklace? I've been intrigued by it but didn't like the lack of detail in the description.

  7. I don't get this promotion. At least 20% off the entire site, prices as marked? MANY items are not discounted at all. FALSE ADVERTISING, J CREW!

  8. I used the online chat and asked about some of the items not being at least 20% off. Here was the response I received;

"Yes, we're aware that some of the items have not been marked down. If one of the items that you're interested in is not marked down, we'll be happy to apply the 20% discount."

    Hope that helps!

  9. I agree Lauren...false advertising. There are a few items that I have been stalking lately and hoping they go on sale or be able to use a discount code. The prices today don't seem to be any different than they were all this past week and last week. I don't see any additional markdowns?!

  10. Just an FYI...chatted online with a customer service agent a few minutes ago and you can call customer service and they will adjust the prices manually for you. Here is my convo:

ME: Hi Sharon. I received an email regarding the JCrew Factory promotion that advertises 20-40% off the entire site. But I notice several items are not discounted at all. Is this an error or are not all items on sale?

SHARON: I apologize for the inconvenience. We're experiencing issues with the site today. Please call us at 800-562-0258 and we'll be happy to place the order and adjust the prices manually.

  11. SO HOW ARE WE TO KNOW WHICH ITMS ARE 20% OFF OR WHICH ITEMS MIGHT BE 40% IF THE SITE IS ALL MESSED UP ????

  12. Here's the rundown of how many Factory items are actually 20% off or more (it's slow here at work today, providing me the time to make this list). The site might be having some technological issues, but if they are, why didn't they send out an apology e-mail saying so? E-mail blasts don't take much time at all. Additionally, why didn't they make the site go live with the discounts before they sent the e-mail?

    Category: Items on sale/Items available:

Jackets & Outerwear: 2/10 (3 items not discounted at all)

Jewelry: 9/20 (5 items not discounted at all)

Knits & Tees: 22/35 (3 items not discounted at all)

Dresses: 13/23 (2 items not discounted at all)

Weekend: 3/10 (1 item not discounted at all)

    Pants: 6/10

Bags & Accessories: 7/30 (13 items not discounted at all)

Shirt & tops: 12/29 (7 items not discounted at all)

Shoes: 2/11 (2 items not discounted at all)

Shorts: 2/17 (1 item not discounted at all)

Skirts: 5/20 (4 items not discounted at all)

Suiting: 2/8 (2 items not discounted at all)

    Sweaters: 9/18

I really was looking forward to seeing some reduced prices today. Here's to hoping that they extend the sale (a real sale, that is) as due diligence to us customers.

  13. I never got this Factory email. Usually I get them a few hours after stuff posts here. I guess us second and third stringers were to stay on the bench today. Thanks to those JCAs who spotted the no sale problems. This will make me do the math on future promo sales just in case.

  14. I agree with this false advertising percent off. An item I was hoping would get additional percent off this weekend had been on promo or sale for $84 the entire week from original price $128. Now it's back up to a sale price of $98. Frustrating!

  15. So glad you posted about this. I had placed an order in the morning and had this nagging feeling that the discount should have been larger. I called CS and they said they will do an adjustment (they did ask about the email I received--I described the photo and wording on it).
