J.Crew Email: ENDS TODAY. 20% off select sweaters. Online only

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who shared the following news & email J.Crew sent this morning.

The email reminds us about J.Crew's latest promotion: they are offering "20% off select women's sweaters" which is available only "online". This offer expires tonight, 9/22/09. To shop Women's sweaters, click here.

From the comments yesterday (refer to the "J.Crew Email: 20% off select sweaters. 2 days only. Online only. {again} ;)" post), many of you (and myself included) have decided to not take advantage of this promotion.

Will you be taking advantage of this offer? Are there any sweaters that you are currently lusting over? If so, please share! :)

Side Note: This is more for an "Off On A Tangent" post, but Gap is offering an additional 20% off all sale styles with promo code EXTRA20. This offer expires 9/25/09.

  1. Anyone have IRL photos or info on the following?

#18999: Donegal V-neck -- My frame is such that even the slightest bit of bulk will leave me looking chubby. This looks like it might be kind of bulky.

#17853: Dream Cadet Funnelneck -- This looks great on the model, but do the gold buttons give it too much of a military feel IRL?

#17841: Dream Crewneck Cardigan -- Is this really as short as it looks on the model?

#17808: Dream V-neck Sweater -- When you look at the images for the different colors, it looks like there's a center back seam, but if you look at the behind shot of the model you can't see it. Anyone know if there's a seam?

  2. Hey Chelsea

I tried on the Donegal v-neck last night it is fitted and actually looks cool, but the ITCH got me right away.

I love the Cadet funnelneck, def has military look. An alternative could be the Trentino cabin cardigan which is thicker, longer and supernice in person.

I ordered the Cashmere shirred popover, but had to return it, it is too long. The collar looks great on the model, but it doesn't lay flat on the skin, there is an wide elastic band there and it sticks up. Maybe I should have sized down? No dice for me though. The fabric though is so very cozy and soft, oh how I need me some perfect cashmere.

  3. Chelsea-that is interesting about the dream v-neck seam. The only ones without the seam are sea foam and the guava. Also, I noticed the cardigan is the same way with guava being the only color without the seam! I would call J Crew and make 100% sure before you waste any time. That would be rather strange and unfortunate if they put that there imo. Funnelneck is really nice on and soft. There are pics on a couple blogs with the Donegal v-neck. People are loving it and say it is soft.HTH

  4. Chelsea, Chloe did a couple of awesome outfits of the day with the Cadet Funnelneck recently.

  5. OT.. does anyone know how the signature black leggings run? the fact that they come in xxs and xs is throwing me off.

  6. I'm ready for the sweater sale to be over and a real sale to start!

  7. Am interested in the cashmere ecole sweater (and also the cashmere tie front sweater) but will not buy until other JCA's report positive things about this year's cashmere quality. I have almost worn my sweater shaver out taking off pills. I have cashmere from Nordstrom, CeCe... and don't have as many problems. I love the colors and styles but J Crew's cashmere is too expensive for the quality.

  8. I have a dream v-neck arriving tomorrow. I sure hope there isn't a back seam, otherwise it will be going back asap!

  11. I received the Lombard cardi yesterday, it is going back. While I love how cozy the sweater feels (I agree 100% with Gigi's comment that she wishes JC would do this blend of sweater in different solid colors), I didn't like the brown discoloration on the ruffles, nor the fraying. It made the cardi look really old, and yet it is brand new! I'm sorry, but I would rather spend $95 on an item that will last me years, rather than a few wears, at best.

  12. Alexis - thanks for the heads up on the gap promo, I picked up some additional basics at great prices!

  13. Chelsea:

The Dream Crewneck Cardigan is shorter in length. Since I am probably quite a bit shorter than the model, the sweater is not as short on me as in the photo. I personally like that the sweater is shorter as lots of J.Crew clothing has been really long. Also, it is TTS.

  14. SE Mom-
I am curious if there is a back seam and what color you recv'd? Thanks!

  15. None of the promo sweaters piqued my interest. I have enough navy, black and grey sweaters to last a lifetime. I'd like some jewel-tones, please.

  16. Hi Chelsea,

I tried on the Dream Cadet Funnelneck and did think the gold buttons looked a little cheesy, and gave the whole thing a too-military feel. I also tried the Donegal on. I have a small frame and I thought the sweater dwarfed me a bit. It had that "trapped in a ski lodge and all bundled up" look, which is fine, if that's the cozy look you're going for. I'd wear it in place of a jacket, personally.

  17. OT --

Just got back from the Southampton NY store. Many lovely things...got the cashmere boatneck popover and black pencil skirt.

The popover fits a little bigger than the regular JC cashmere -- I usually get a medium in the v-neck and crewneck long sleeve sweaters, but got a small in the popover. I might have even fit an XS, but I liked the slightly looser fit.

I was SHOCKED to see that the wool pencil skirt (the pale pink tweed one that comes in "rosebud") was selling for $265! Online it is only $198! Not cool, JCrew.

  18. Chelsea --> I tried on the Donegal v-neck this morning and quite liked it. I personally didn't find it itchy (wearing it over a t-shirt, but the sleeves on bare skin didn't bother me). I tried a medium and it had a more casual, weekend look. A small would have fit slimmer and easier to dress up. I still might go back and buy it.

  19. OT - I want the hat on the cover of the Oct. catalog. Has anyone seen it? It's probably a man's hat...

  21. I am wondering if anyone knows what happened to the Handknit Cardigan in heather gray, a Collection piece with leather buttons ($268.00 or so?). It was just released and now it has completely disappeared from the website.
Allie: I love the signature leggings. I wear a size 2 in skirts and pants but I ordered a Small. I love them so much I ordered two more pairs, but they are now waitlisted in Small. Hope that is helpful.

  22. Cliquot - I saw the same skirt at the Collection store in NY for $265 as well, and commented about the difference in price from the online store in a post a few weeks back. It is so not cool, JCrew!

  23. Maybe this has been mentioned in a previous post, but why did JCrew feel the need to photoshop or physically remove the buttons off the hot pink cardigan on the cover model (oct 09)? In one picture on pg 3, there are different buttons. I guess they thought it did not go with the buttons on the jacket and plaid shirt (but 3 belts on another model is ok!). It's troublesome how often JC manipulates/visually misrepresents their product.

  24. I just ordered the dream turtleneck in glazed pecan because I love the color! Hope it looks that good in person.

  25. The cadat sweater is sold out of every size but large. I call BS. Dollars to doughnuts that the smaller sizes will be back on the site once the promo is over.

  26. Completely off-topic, but here's a new practice (?) to watch out for: when you return an order for which you used a free shipping code (and were hence not charged shipping), J. Crew subtracting the would-have-been shipping from your refund. Has happened on my most recent order, and an order placed (and returned) the same week by a good friend in a different city and state. New schemes everywhere!

Diana - I'll double your dollars to doughnuts. :)

  27. Rae,
Am wondering if this is a true policy or not. If so my days shopping online at JCrew are OVER! that is just poor customer service/business pracstices and if I took my order to the store to return would be talking to the manager and fighting it.

    Alexis,

Could you please do a seperate post on this to see if this is true? Thanks ahead of time.

  28. Chelsea: I have a review of the donegal v-neck on my blog (objectsofmyclosetsaffection.blogspot.com) and I really love it.

I received a dream v-neck sweater today in the bright blue color (can't remember the actual color!) today and there IS a seam down the back. I don't mind it at all, kind of like it actually! HTH!

  29. Chelsea: Looks like Casual-crew already mentioned it (thanks!), but yes, I do have IRL pics of the Donegal v-neck on my blog. I loooooove this sweater so much. Probably my favorite purchase from the fall line-up so far. It has a little bit of stretch to it and to me, is not itchy.

Re: the dream v-neck, I have it in plum raisin and there is definitely NOT a seam in the back. I can send pics if you'd like!

    HTH!

  30. Boden has 205 off ALL their knitwear which is basically all their sweaters:)

  31. Oops, sorry, Chelsea: I was talking about the dream cambridge v-neck, not the regular dream v-neck. My apologies! :)

  32. Bug pin:

I ordered the heather cypress which is a nice olive green.

There is a seam down the back of the sweater. I had to go look at the sweater to check though, so I really didn't notice while trying it on!

  33. My dream vneck arrived today and it does have a seam down the back. I ordered the sea green and there is no seam shown on the website. I think the sleeves are itchy. I do love the color though.
