Darlings, is it time for a J.Crew coupon code?

Yes, it is that wonderful time!

A big "thanks!" to Naomi (in this post) who shared with us that J.Crew is offering free shipping on orders of $150+ with promo code EB-879. This offer expires 10/4/09. :)

P.S. I have noticed that other websites & blogs post J.Crew codes & coupons *after* this blog does. If you happen to get codes & coupons from the JCA blog & post them at your site, could you please give give a "shout out" to the JCA blog? This way more JCAs are inclined to share. TIA! :)

  1. Thanks Naomi and Alexis!

OT: Can anyone comment on the Deep Rose color? I got a Jackie in the golden cypress, but I just don't see it working with my skin tone very well. I was thinking of exchanging it for the deep rose color, but before I do, wanted to know it was more pinkish, redish, orangish, etc??? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

  3. OT: can anyone who ordered the Campo bag comment on how it has held up? interested specifically in whether or not the leather has "relaxed" a bit..

    Thanks!

  5. Yes, it is time for a coupon code -- a 20% off code(not 20% off sale). There hasn't been one in months. 20% off minimum $150 purchase, please!

  9. J.crew is getting left in the dust. Free shipping is all they seem to offer. Meanwhile AT gave me a 40% off offer for this weekend ... also have a 20% off card from them good through the end of this week. Plus free shipping on orders over $150, along with using special offers.

Nothing at J.Crew that I really want right now, anyway. They're boring me, in the way that Tim Gunn warns contestants about boring Nina Garcia, hee hee.

  10. Hi La Belle Helene - AT's 40% this weekend was great, I got a pair of the Perfect Patent Pumps, which are gorgeous, padded, and leather lining/sole (JC, are you listening?). AT is right next to JC in my mall, and I didn't even make it over there... whoops! Although I'm bored with the majority of their offerings this season, there are a few pieces that I'm interested in, but not at full price. Guess there are enough people snapping up stuff at FP that they don't have to offer discounts, and that's okay, I'm confident that I'll be able to find pieces elsewhere. I'll still keep one eye on JC!

  11. AppGal -- I have two tops (a 3/4 sleeve tee and a silk cami) in the Deep Rose color. I would say that it's a mix of rose pink and rusty orange. I don't consider it a "bright," if that helps. I have pale skin with a pinkish cast, and I think Deep Rose works well for me. Love it!

And, yes, the $150 + free shipping is really tiresome. What kind of deal is that????

    ReplyDelete
  12. What's Alexis' email addy?

    ReplyDelete
  13. AppGal, JKW is absolutely right about the deep rose color. I have it in the jackie cardigan, and I think that it's more of a rusty or muted orange. If you'd like me to send you a picture of it, send me your email address.

Also, I'm wondering if people get certain coupons but not others. I didn't get this free shipping code email, and also didn't get the sweater promotion email a week ago. I buy something from jcrew like every other day, so that's a little frustrating. AT sends me coupons non-stop!

  14. silver lining - those pumps are gorgeous. I really, really like the new designs at AT - I hadn't gone in there in years, and now I've gotten to like their clothes so much I have a card there - and judging from what I've read on here, the benefits are far, far superior to those of j.crew's card (don't have it, wouldn't dream of getting it after reading the feedback on here).

I got the long grey gloves, and then also a purple ruffle-front top (I'm not really that big of a ruffle girl, but a woman offered me her coupon, so $45 - 40% = sold, lol).

Rynetta, I sometimes don't get emails from j.crew, either, and no matter how often I buy from there, I haven't gotten a catalogue in the mail for, like, three years - and sheesh, I bought nearly every item from the seminal Sept. 2007 catalogue!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Thanks, La Belle Helene!

I still get the catalogs, and I get most of the emails, so who knows what's going on....About your AT comment, I'm with you (even though I'm a sucker so we have the jcrew card, too). The AT card is MUCH better than jcrew's. AT gives us 5 points per dollar, and it only takes 2,000 points to get a $20 style rewards card, which they mail as you earn the points.

  16. Yes, I got the AT 40% coupon too!

I was debating between the J.Crew's Jeweled Garland Bracelet (Style # 18030) for $95.00 and AT's Mixed Media Bracelet (Style #160376) for $55.00.

I really really loved the J.Crew bracelet, but 40% off, it was a no-brainer to get the AT bracelet. I am a sucker for big coupons. Most of the time, the coupon will get me to buy more than I originally went in for...for example with the AT coupon.

So J.Crew...I always buy more when you give me more than free shipping!

  17. I think I'm the biggest sucker for the tiered discounts, like the holiday ones last year, when you got free shipping AND either 20, 25, or 30% off depending on how much you spent. I bought SO much last year, I even have a couple things with the tags still on. (Bad, I know.) Just about everyone got JC presents last Christmas, I wonder if we'll get the same promos as last year, or will I have to find somewhere else to do my holiday shopping?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yay, free shipping! I'm still waiting for my peekaboo cardigan to get lower in price, though!

  19. I think the big bargain/discount days are over at JCrew for the rest of 2009. The stock is way up, and they are the retailer of choice if you can't afford designer clothes. They don't have any incentive to offer many discounts. I also think they want to appear above the discount fray of AT, BR, Gap, etc. Hopefully, they will offer a red card or something as we get futher into fall. All of us faithful cardholders deserve SOMETHING! I hope the October rollout is better than this one.

  20. Question: does anyone here have the J. Crew credit card and have a history of using it... not so responsibly? I've heard so much here about how nobody seems to get the promised "private sales." But people on this blog seen to be big bargain hunters, and therefore probably know not to accumulate a balance. Do you think maybe those "private sales" are offered to cardholders who do accumulate a balance and end up making J. Crew a lot of money in interest, in order to make them feel like they're getting a deal when they're not?

Cynical, but that's how the credit industry is. Anyone have experience to confirm or deny my theory?

Me, I don't have a card, won't get one unless they increase the benefits.

  21. I ordered the perfect pencil skirt in fresh plum. Can anyone suggest what kind of shoes (color and style) would go with it?

    TIA

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wendy, I paired it with light gray knee-high boots and with nude heels and both looked nice with it. It might also look nice with dark brown boots-I have the brown Rivington from last year that I'm thinking about wearing with the skirt.

My problem is thinking of colors to go with it besides gray, white/cream, and dark brown.

  23. jcrew1985: I completely agree. I don't think they care what other companies are offering and they prob want to weed out those that will only shop with a discount to some extent. I think they know they have a unique thing, Michelle O didn't hurt the image;) and I think they are slowly revamping and trying to retrain customers to not expect a sale. JMO.

Fiona-I spend a lot of money on my card and I pay it off in full. I believe there is no difference from those that do not do majority of their shopping at JC/using the card. JC card just doesn't offer much incentive. For those not paying off the card..it is definitely a BAD idea to use their card because one wants to earn rewards. As I recall, the interest is something crazy like the 20% range!! Defeats the point of rewards. The ONLY reason I use their card is that I figure I might as well get the rewards if I primarily shop there anyway.

OT but I haven't been to Gap in a LONG time as I usually check them out online if there is a promo. They have dramatically changed ALL of their policies. I was in there over the weekend after using a recent discount online (25% off) and needed to exchange jeans for smaller sz. IDENTICAL item just size difference. They weren't willing to give me the price I had paid online. I could NOT believe it. They insist they are like 2 companies and do not have the same prices so they could not honor the same price I paid (with discount code). I am floored. I have done this before but I bet it has been awhile ago now. I also found their return policy is now 30 days.
IMO, most of their clothes are just going down hill in the style dept. On the other hand, I think Old Navy is copying a lot of JC (quality not the same but..)and I think they have cuter things than Gap.

Sadly, I foresee bad things happening to this company (I guess it already is happening). And I remember the days when I would stack a promo on greatly reduced or promo priced merch and walk out with a big smile on my face:) It was as if the SA had shoved $10 extra bucks in my new jeans pocket before I left:)
I guess what goes up..must come down:(

  24. K Mel:
Plum is gorgeous with navy, olive- think J Crew's spicy mustard, also guava and shell pinks--think soft shades in the pinks and peaches. I think prints/florals are a beautiful way to pick up the color rather than a solid. Check out forever21 and do some mixing up. They have floral patterns that you could then put a grey cardi over with a platinum belt.
    It's such a gorgeous color-have fun!

  25. I still think J Crew is setting themselves up for problems if they don't have a huge improvement in both quality and customer service to go along with that high price point/no dicount mentalitiy. They have some pretty pieces, but so do other retailers. They just are not that different from Ann Taylor and Banana Republic at this point.

I am ticked at them this morning. I called CS to find out if my spy trench that I preordered last Monday has shipped. It has been showing as in stock since Thursday. It has not and they can't tell me when it will. I ordered the bright blue skirt and dotted cami Thursday morning and they went out Friday. I wonder if I would have been better off if I had waited and ordered the coat on Thursday. Sorry, but that is just pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Kitsmommy -- would you please review the spy trench when you get it? I am expecially interested in the color IRL. I was hoping it would be a bit bolder. Is it a deep or light heather salmon?

  27. I will be glad to review the coat when I receive it.

  28. kitsmommy, I agree. I think people who are looking for designer clothes without paying high prices look to a designer's bridge collection - buy Michael Michael Kors (or whatever it's called) and it's still a Michael Kors label. Buy J.Crew, and it's still a mall-based mass retailer as ubiquitous as the Gap, Bath & Body Works and Starbucks. And you're dead-on about the quality issue - I, like many others, no longer buy j.crew's cashmere because it's garbage. I hope j.crew gets its act together and goes back to making quality, interesting clothes instead of having delusions of grandeur. Mrs. Obama, as a matter of fact, is pictured in the current TIME wearing a dress from Talbots, so it's not like other retailers aren't gaining exposure, too.

  31. Wendy, I second the others, I will wear the fresh plum with grey, beige/nude or brown tights/shoes/boots. Flat boots are OK if they are tall but I think heels are best with a pencil skirt. Flats can run the risk of giving it a school marmish look.

For a top I'll pair with warm shades of olive, honey glaze, bronzed twig, mustard, camel, coral and cool shades of dark purple, majestic purple, bright blue, oxford blue, navy, gray, deep red, fuschia and of course black and white. Some of these combos may be too bright for your taste, but have fun trying it with rich colors, it is really quite versatile. I agree that prints really do set it off nicely but solids work fine too. And you can always brighten up a neutral top with a lively scarf.

Here's what I do when I'm not sure what to pair with a new item. Lay the item on my bed with a white blanket or sheet underneath to be neutral. Take pieces from my closet one by one and lay them on top to see if I like the color combo. Once I've got the colors I like, I take the effort to try the pieces on together to see how they look for balance, texture, etc. It can be a bit daunting to put on an item and gaze into your closet, hoping for inspiration. Hope that helps.

kitsmommy, I've read a few comments here where people have pre-ordered items, only to find that the the order is never placed when the item becomes available. I don't trust the service myself and just check back on the date when it is to be available.

Thanks for posting the code Naomi and Alexis. I will be using it for the Deco shirred skirt. Loved the IRL pix of it on a few blogs, very sweet and the fabric/color combo could be worn right into spring.

  32. I preordered 2 skirts last year that I never received. Then this year I preordered the professor jacket after being told that my local store was not receiving it. I cancelled the preorder, but it showed up anyway. Honestly, I have never been very impressed with customer service for the catalog/online. However, my local SAs rock! Love ya, Doug, Greta, Elizabeth and Amy.

  35. bug pin: I wasn't trying to suggest that people should not pay off there credit cards in order to get rewards. Of course not! I was just wondering where these mystery private sales are, and thinking maybe they aren't totally nonexistent... just reserved for certain customers, who may not frequent this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Fiona-oh gosh, I didn't mean you thought that or were saying that at all. I just worry that some people really don't think about the interest versus the rewards. It may be hard to believe but it's true esp. with younger generation that is just beginning to get their own credit cards etc. HTH clarify;)
