J.Crew Email: Must-have minnie pant + FREE SHIPPING

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who shared the following email J.Crew sent today.

They are featuring the Stretch Twill Minnie Pant (Item 18850; $79.50). The email states: "It's our much-loved little black pant. Meet Minnie. With a chic, ankle-length crop and superslim fit, she's one of our absolute favorites at just $75.50." To shop J.Crew's pants for Women, click here.

They are also reminding us about free shipping on orders of $100+ with promo code FALL, and $150+ with promo code AUTUMN. Both offers expire tomorrow, 9/16/09.

I won't lie, I was hoping to see the website updated today with new arrivals (especially since there's a code for free shipping with a $100 minimum). Maybe tomorrow. :)

What are your thoughts on the Minnie Pant? Do you like the style & fit? Have you seen them or tried them on? If so, please share! :) Also, do you think you will take advantage of the free shipping offer?

  1. I was hoping to see updates too! Oh well. I only have one thing in my cart right now, so I might hold off for the time being.

I think the Minnie pant looks super cute on the models, but for someone super short like me, I wonder if they'd just look like regular pants? Hahaha!

  2. I don't think the Minnie is for me, but I'll give it a try the next time I'm in the store just to be sure.

Since the codes expire tomorrow, odds are the new arrivals won't be online until Thursday or Friday.

  3. I love the Minnies but haven't yet said "Welcome to my closet!" Debating between black and grey and may do neither one. I don't think they look nearly as attractive (on me, anyhow) in the khaki/camel, unfortunately, because that would be the most useful addition for me.

I'm getting a little weary of the bait & switch-ish e-mails from J. Crew, too. Most of the time it does seem that the "NEWS!" being trumpeted isn't news at all. And who can keep up with their byzantine sales & pricing & popback policies these days??

  4. Amy Kelinda, I am 5'4" with short legs and yes, they are more of an ankle pant on me (like last year's Claire) but I like them a lot and found them flattering. I know that some JCAs have commented that they grab every bulge, but that is not what I found even though I have some little "saddlebag" issues.

My comment on fit would be to SD--they stretch out quite a bit after they've been worn. I have the khaki and will buy the black when/if we ever have a private sale or better coupon.

  5. The Minnie in black was the first thing I bought from the new arrivals in August. They're very cute and I normally shun stretchy pants. I'm actually really fond of all of the ankle length pants that have been big the past few seasons. Throw them on with some loafers if you want to channel Audrey... or MJ.

  6. I absolutely LOVE the Minnie pant. I also tried the Pixie, which was super unflattering, but the Minnie is classic. I am 5'7" so they fit me a little shorter than ankle pants (more like a cigarette pant than a capri...I don't do capris).

If you are on the fence with these, at least try them out.

I have the black, but am thinking about going back and getting the grey. Seriously, so versatile.

  7. I agree with most of the comments. I had no plans to try these on until the PS suggested it, and I LOVED them. I just wore the black ones and they are so cute. I wore them with one of the boyfriend shirts and ballet flats. I go between 2 sizes in JC pants, and I went with the smaller of the 2. The larger size still felt snug in the legs and thighs, but the waist got too loose like I had a little pooch. The smaller size fit just so, but after 1 wear they have loosened up a bit and feel broked in. HTH!

  8. jeez...sorry...I am going to get my coffee now.

  9. First, love2shop4bags, LOL! I totally feel you when it comes to being completely and utterly incoherent without coffee!

Amy kelinda, I, too, am super short (5'0" anyone?), and the Minnie's are regular pants for me. It's alright, though; they fit like skinny pants and hold everything in, which is ALWAYS a plus. You'll always have the option of getting them hemmed or simply folding them up in the inside and double-side taping them for a day for the ankle, Audrey look.

I also wanted to comment on the fabric of the pants - the twill used is a stretchy, almost-wool-like textured fabric. But don't get turned off by the "wool" comment, it is not at all itchy. I have the gray ones and am really contemplating getting the other two colors. And I agree with the other ladies, do size down.

  10. I hate the Minnie pant. I tried them on while in Chicago a few weeks ago... yuck! I have a pretty straight figure, and no issues to hide on my bottom half, so I thought perhaps I could pull them off, but no. They made me look so awful. The material reminds me of stretch pants I wore in 4th grade circa 1993. They are definitely a pass for me.

And JCrew can take their free shipping code and stuff it. I will not be buying anything anytime soon. During the last free ship code, I used my rewards card and got two Francie skirts from last year (in dark peony and heather majestic purple) and the olivia sweater in bright berry. Don't see many nice bright colors this year. I'll hold off for when the stuff I do like inevitably goes on sale.

  11. Last time I was at a B&M I was trying on the pixie pant so the SA put these in too b/c she thought I would like them.

They are really great! I found them to be a very flattering ankle/slim pant (I'm 5'6") and I'm not someone who loves my legs. The stretchy but thick fabric really does seem to hold everything in and smooth it out.

I am hoping to be able to get the black ones pretty soon. I was kind of torn between these and the pixie pants (I just love something about the jodhpur detail on the pixies) but these are the more versatile pair so they win :)

By the way, the SAs at the Fresno store were so sweet and so wonderful!

  12. Alexis I was told by CS the other day the website will not be updated until Thurs of this week, with all the fs codes expiring tomorrow at midnight I kinda think the infor is true.

I used the smaller code this am to get some fs. on the Matchstick cords.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm 5'3", so unless I alter these or they have petite, I really won't get the benifit.
Really the capri fit me like the ankle pants because I am short...
I can fit into some regular dresses and tops...It seems I have a long torso and short legs....so these pants are a loss for me. Cute on the model though.

  14. Em, Amen! I am on the same page as you with the pants and the free shipping code!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Haven't tried the pants, but ditto on what Em & Summer said: Stuff the free ship & ante up with a % off incentive/private sale/red card/call-it-anything and free ship, j.crew.

Also, unless I've missed it, where the Dickens is purple this fall for j.crew? It's orange, orange, orange & then bland, washed-out colors... where's iris? where's majestic purple? Also, where's azalea, j.crew's gorgeous, blue-based pink from fall 2007?

  16. I also had to size down on the Minnie, but I'm afraid it will stretch out even more as I'm wearing it like my cafe capris. I also don't like the seam along the back of the leg. I will only get it if it's marked down.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I was really hoping the new arrivals would appear online last night. And of course they are sure to pop up just as soon as the free shipping codes disappear!

I was excited about the Minnie pant. Unfortunately it was a disaster for me! Made my hips look huge and then tapered down to the ankle. It looked nothing like the pant on the model. I have skinny legs but no pants EVER look good on me. Maybe I'm delusional though.

  18. Thanks Hexicon and Drewablank, it looks like I'll have to try these out when I go to the store this weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  19. From what my contacts tell me, the new arrivals hit the website on the 17th....

    ReplyDelete
  20. LOL Em, I totally agree. I'm tall and very straight, these pants kind of hung on me and looked terrible. I think they are designed for the more curvy gals. Plus, I've seen similar styles in a lot of other stores for much less.

As for the free ship codes expiring before the new arrivals, seems to be a classic J.Crew tactic this past year. Oh well, like La Belle Helene, I'm not loving all the orange and taupey colors, I need some purple, deep pink and blue for fall. I'll find it somewhere else.

  21. OT question - I'm thinking of purchasing a pair of the perfect leather flats on ebay. Can anyone tell me if they fit TTS or should I SU or SD?

    TIA!

  23. ok scratch the 24 hour hold, it's not actually on the floor yet but will be Friday and I can coordinate with you so it's on hold. TIA : )

  24. I went into the North Avenue Collection store in Chicago intending to buy the Monroe wool pants and walked out with the Minnies instead. The monroes run big and are itchy with the wool. I love the Minnie pant: comfortable, a little more substantial than the cafe capri, but like other comments, I recommend sizing down.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I went to J Crew intending to buy the Minnies and the PS also brought me the Pixies. I preferred the Pixies. The Minnies didn't flatter me at all. The Pixies strangely are quite flattering. I am 5'3 and a J Crew size 2. I tried a 2 and a 4 and the 2s were a better fit. They are not cropped on me, but I like that they are like skinny jeans and can be worn with flats or heels. The material is quite substantial and seems to just suck everything in and hold it in place LOL! I would definitely wear them with some kind of tunic or sweater that hits below my bum, though.

    ReplyDelete
  26. i usually can't wear jcrew bottoms (no butt/short legs) but the pixie pant fit me nicely...even though i had to hem them shorter as they fit like regular pants. can't wait to try the minnies

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ohh! I love superskinny black pants (not leggings) but since I am a petite 0 / 00 it does not look like these will work since everyonecis sizing down. Every pair of J Crew pants have been ridiculously boxy on me. Oh, well!

  28. OT - I saw the Silk Pleated Posy Top (page 44 - Jenna's picks of the Oct catalog; # 18679E), and it is 100% silk, including the flower embellishments at the neckline. However, because it is silk, the flowers are sad and droopy. Pass for me, at $89.50.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am a 2/4 with hips and both the Minnie and Pixie were GHASTLY on me. So no, I won't be buying them, not even on sale :)

OT: the outlet had a version of the Pixie? (the one with exposed back zipper and jodphur detailing on the legs). I only saw black and didn't look at the price. They also had a simar skirt to the shirred wool skirt. Had elastic waist and letter sizes (xs, s, etc). Ran pretty TTS, but might size down. They only came in med grey and salmon and were already on clearance for $40 -20%. (that was fast-weren't even there 2 weeks ago!). The PS said they would get the first round of holiday Sept 27.

  30. Wishful thinking... but I have received multiple promos from other retailers (BR (40% off instore for card holders), M&O, Nordys - triple points) that start September 16! So... here goes (magical) wishful thinking, that J Crew will also have a promo starting tomorrow?? It appears to be some kind of super retail promo day. J Crew - join the fun! Please...

    ReplyDelete
  31. mack - I also received the BR 40% off promo email and I'm not a cardholder. I may purchase the short, swingy nylon trench that I saw there recently. Other than that, there is nothing exciting for me at BR these days. Oh, they did have a nice felt hat similar to the J.Crew one but more expensive. I ended up getting a really cute grey felt hat from Joe Fresh for $14 Canadian. So cute and crazy cheap. I tried it with both the black and fuschia silk flower pins from my boucle astrids for a feminine touch and the look is really sweet.

As for the Minie, it is a pass for me. Not flattering to my boyish figure and the hem hits in a weird place. Seems like it is really hit or miss, which means it may end up on sale for those who love it.

  32. ^And Ann Taylor is offering $30 off any full-price sweater in store or online ...

  33. La Belle Helene,

Purple is the "it" color of the season. I have seen it all over TV and The Today Show and magazines. JCrew missed the boat I think.

Orange--I have had enough, thanks. Just b/c it is Jena's favorite color doesn't mean it has to be EVERYWHERE at JCrew! (And I like me some orange but am burnt out seeing it so much at JC.)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I did not like the minnie pants on me. They felt "funny" around the crotch and I thought they also looked "funny" there, too. I liked the leg on them, though. I prefer the cafe capri and cocktail capri for me.

I was so hoping for new arrivals, but it sounds like we'll have to wait until Friday (hopefully by then). And, because my only b&m is located downtown and closes early, I can't get there until Saturday morning. I just hope my sizes aren't gone in whatever I want to try on (like the new b&w skirt).

    ReplyDelete
  35. La Belle Helene - you're right about the purple. It's everywhere else right now! I love purple and am adding to my wardrobe as often as I can. :) Who knows when it will show up in so many options again. I would also love to see a rich royal/bright blue and green. Oh, and a really good (Christmas) red.

    ReplyDelete
  36. looks like its about 50/50.
I'm not a fan of the Minnie's at all - one of those things that are great on the model, but not in real life.

    ReplyDelete
  37. La Belle Helene, I was hoping for more purple too. When I bought the iris Eden I thought perhaps we'd see more deep-toned purples with subsequent rollouts. I like the wisteria and plum raisin but they don't have those colors in the items that I like.

(I think after all the azalea I purchased in 05, 06, and 07 I finally have enough and now I have a moratorium on anything hot pink.) finally tired of that color!)

I am interested in branching out into the rust/copper tones, but not at FP.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Math teacher I agree with your color choices! I so miss the fall Jewel Tones this year at J.Crew. Thus far, I have only purchased the Cinnamon and Plum Perfect Pencils since they are colorful. I highly recommend both items to JCA's as the fit this year is even better than last years double-serges!

Everything else this season seems so washed out. J.Crew enough with the light pewter and dusty blossoms colors already! Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I forgot that when I requested info on my pre-order of the silk tiered cami in fresh plum, that the response was that it was part of the colors coming out in November. Maybe we'll get lucky and see more purple then. Now, if they'd just get working on the other jewel tones!

maryamjan - my b&m didn't carry the plum pencil skirt, but I'd love to see it IRL. Although, it's a little (okay, a lot!) dressy for my school.

  40. For those interested and/or on the fence about the Minnie, I have just reviewed them here.
    Enjoy!

  41. Everyone: Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Minnies. I never really gave them any thought, but after reading the reviews (on both sides), I will definitely check them out the next time I am in the store. :)

Amy Kelinda: At least I wasn't the only one hoping to see the new Fall arrivals online. :)

FFM & Captain Crew:: LOL! You are *so* right- J.Crew will wait for the code to expire before new arrivals are online! :) I should have known better. ;)

Emily: I know! I was hoping for new arrivals too with the shipping code still around. It figures the code would be gone by then. ;)

Casual-Crew & JB:: That makes sense about the new arrivals being online on Thursday. Thank you for sharing what your CS told you! :)

JCAUNCMom: I laughed out loud! I fall for the emails too! I think- "OMG big news!!!" then immediately, "oh, pants". :)

Ema: Thanks for sharing your review of the Minnie! :)

  42. La Belle Helene, I agree... I wish they had some more purple. There is one purple top at JCrew I am swooning over, but I won't pay full price because I'm sure it is whisper thin, see through silk.

the Silk Sonnet Blouse in fresh plum is a gorgeous purple, I think.

Let's all hope that the Holiday collection has some bright colors reminiscent of the JCrew of old!

  44. Hello all!

I just got back from my local b&m, checking out new arrivals and trying to use up my rewards card before it expired.

I must say that I was somewhat disappointed--nothing that I wanted to pay full price for! I like the tweed skirt but couldn't justify spending that amount on something that I believe will make it to sale soon. The black and white mini is adorable but too mini to wear to the office so I had to pass (I'm on a work-wear kick, lord knows I don't need another pair of jeans). My store was seriously lacking in a variety of sizes and I feel like fit is more unpredictable than ever. I'm normally a 0/2 and was either sizing up or things were too big entirely.

I don't know, you guys, has JCrew lost it's touch? Am I missing some incredible finds?

I did pick up the in-store tote in black patent-leather, which is quite dazzling.

  48. Minnies didn't work for me either-not flattering at all. I tried a 4 but maybe the 2 would have been better??

The Deco skirt is darling but SHORT!

I was laughing at Hexicon--I was sucj a pink fanatic but now I am moving away and I still see a good deal of it in all my clothes. Love the raisin color and plums. I think J Crew has been going with a very Anthro, vintage feel lately which evokes soft, blush tones with chiffon etc. Jewel tones don't really do that as well. Hoping Holiday brings more color:)

  49. Dear J.Crew Customer Service Staff:

I'm writing this because I feel very frustrated due to the fact that Petite Sizes are unavailable at the store. This past week I have been returning and ordering items like crazy because I cannot try on the petite sizes to find out which size suits me best. Because of this I have to wait until the minnie pant arrives in order to try it on and see if it fits.

I honestly love J.Crew clothing, but to have to spend so much money on shipping and return fees is becoming very inconvenient. I am seriously considering to start shopping elsewhere so that I can try on my petite sizes in store and decide whether to buy the item or not without having to spend sp much money on shipping charges.

I wanted to try on the Petite Twill Minnie Pant in a size 00 and it turned out to be too small, now I'm ordering the size 2 in hopes that it will fit me just right. However, my 20% off discount for opening a J.Crew Credit Card was already wasted ordering an item which I was unable to try on first at the store.

I am very upset about this. I hope that this will be taken into consideration next time and allow for the stores (especially the one on the Aventura Mall in Miami, Florida) to have the pants in petite sizes and not only regular sizes
