Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available in the Summer / Fall sale, or to see some new Fall arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. MUST.NOT.BUY.ANY.MORE. lol! Since it's still very warm here in the South, I'm just not ready for fall clothes yet. Maybe by the time they start getting marked down I will be! :-) For noe I'm just happy that the ringspun painter henleys popped back this week. I'd got one on final sale about 10 days ago, and I loved it so much but they sold out right before my eyes during EXTRA20. :-/ I'd been checking every day and today, voila, there they were, and I snagged 2. That is it, I am done for a while now!

  2. The sweater sale is over this am.

  3. HUGE update in the sale section. Everything I click on is there too which is nice. I didn't buy anything but it was fun to look! Lots of items from the past as well as current updates in sizes/colors.

  4. I had a ton of newish stuff in my cart prior to these new arrivals...and now my entire cart has been cleared. Grr!

  5. I'm definitely hitting my stores this weekend. I need to see some of the new arrivals IRL. Can't wait!

  6. Will be heading to the Asheville store to make some returns (it's been awhile since I've gone and I have a lot!) and check out the new arrivals. I'll be trying *very* hard not to buy ANYTHING! I'll take lots of IRL pics to put up on my blog later. Hope everyone has shopping success this weekend!

  7. I went by the Tucson store last night to do a return (the Maya, which I had re-purchased at the lower price). The new catalog was not out; I had to ask for it. I was the only customer in the store (same for Anthropologie!). Anyway, the new Fifi cardi was almost sold out. I took a close look at the garland tee since it has cotton lawn accents like the Lombard cardi---I wanted to see if there was brown on the edges. It appeared to be alright. The store had lots of new stuff but I was with a cranky toddler so did not have much time to look.

  8. My Seattle store had a lot of new stuff, but only a few markdowns yesterday--just the textured jersey tees for $29.99 with no additional markdown percentage. I'm hoping more goes on sale this weekend.

I'm also wondering if anyone can tell me about the fit of the Toothpick ankle cord? I see that one color is on sale, and I'm tempted, but not sure about the size. Last year I was a 27 in the slim/toothpick/matchstick styles (size O in the other pants), but this year I was told by a SA that the matchstick cut is different and so then I was a 26 in the matchstick cords. I'm wondering if it's the same thing with these ankle cords. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Oh and thanks, Alexis, for running a great blog. I just found this about a month ago, and love it.

  9. Selena-
I have the toothpick ankle cords in navy and I had to size up. My regular size was way too tight. The bigger size was still cut slim, but I don't think they are too tight. Depending on your body type, you may want to size up 2 sizes. Hope that helps.

  15. Yeah, ill def be @ the Chestnut Hill location this afternoon. The infiniti needs a wash and there's a dr detail in there, need to make a payment on the crew card, new arrivals, and i just got paid. The perfect storm brewing for my bank account. Sure i'll be poor again upon leaving but hey I'll look good right? Lol. love and hate it @ the same time.

  16. OT- do you think the crocodile cocktail jacket is too "springy" to mix in with fall pieces? the creamish white background is giving me some hesitation.

  19. pretty boy, you're up at Chestnut Hill? Love that store, that mall is one thing I miss about Boston (but the weather is too dramatic :) ) That store is or was always packed with all the shoes, coats, everything that others stores don't get. I know they have a really great guy's section too. Happy shopping!

  21. Stacy - I think you can make it work for fall. It's a heavier fabric so as long as you don't pair it with candy pastels or breezy-looking bottoms it should be fine IMO. Try a taupe sweater underneath to complement the ivory or try a tissue turtle in purple or dark blue and black, gray or navy bottoms. Would look great with a white tee, cashmere scarf and jeans or a denim skirt. Wearing tights with skirts can transition outfits nicely and is a look that instantly says fall/winter.

  26. Went in to do a couple returns today and didn't see anything added to the sale section.

OT: For all who loved Honey Glaze, the Gap has a very cute jean style jacket in corduroy in an identical color. I actually ran away from it so I wouldn't get too attached!

  27. OT, Vanity Sizing. I just pulled out an old JC lace skirt that is every bit as pretty and looks almost identical to the new silver lace skirt except for the color. Mine is black.

So I compare to a current JC skirt, size 4 and this older skirt has got to be a current JC size 0. I can't believe that this skirt actually fit me at one time.

  28. I'm so excited...heading off to New York (Long Island) tomorrow for vacation and one day will be dedicated to shopping at JCrew. Can't wait to see the fall stuff in person and stock up on some lovelies.

  29. Selena,

I have curvier hips and I found that I'm still the same size as last year in the matchstick cords. I think the maple glaze is rich color which matches well with grays, charcoals and butterscotch. HTH. I got them with the first rollout and really love them.

  30. Stacy, I was at a business conference earlier this week and wore my crocodile cocktail jacket with a white v-neck T, dark denim trousers, black heels and a yellow pashmina. It looked great, if I do say so :D

I think it totally works for this time of year, and grey is so big this season too.

Selena - I sized up in the Toothpick cords. They are still very fitted. HTH.

I'd love to hit J. Crew and Anthro this weekend, but just made a couple of online purchses so I probably shouldn't.

  32. For those who see the deco skirt IRL this weekend, can you comment on whether you think it would work with black tights or not? TIA

OT - for those of you out shopping, Club Monaco has an additional 20% off already reduced merchandise this weekend.

  33. Does anyone have the cotton cady strapless Claudine dress? Any comments on the efficacy of the "interior corset" and/or need for bra with it? I love the cady fabric but am on the fence since I DO NOT usually do strapless due to hating strapless bras. Can any well endowed JCA recommend a good one?

If anyone wants to reply privately and not discuss their boob issues on a public forum, my email is klg_12 at hotmail dot com.

  38. Just got my wool ruffle-front coat from backorder and wanted to report on it since there was a review a little while back saying the ruffles were poorly done - well the ruffles are horrible on mine! One side is perfect and the other side is just hanging fabric. Really, J.Crew, this is what you charge $268 for? It's so sad because I really wanted to love it, and would have otherwise. But instead, back it goes... probably for the best since I've bought too much this season already.

In other news, I finally got over to the Columbus Circle store in NYC yesterday. What a big and lovely store! But you could drop dead waiting for someone to help you. I walked around in there for half an hour - dressed head-to-toe in items they were currently carrying, I might add - and despite spending at least half the time looking for my size in shoes as I grabbed one box after another off a display, not one salesperson greeted me or asked if I needed help. Maybe I'm overly particular because I used to work in retail and was always very attentive so I expect the same, but seriously, what's up with the customer service?? I was in the collection store yesterday too. Don't even get me started... (I will only say that if you're going to turn on the steamer in the middle of the sales floor in the middle of the day, maybe you don't walk away and leave it unattended where customers can walk right into it?)

  39. kinda OT, but Oct InStyle showed this cardi from NY&Co so I ventured into NY to try it on. Super cute. Kind of a mash-up between the 4 pocket merino cardi& the dream cadet funnelneck:
    http://tinyurl.com/n65cfz

I looked at it today - pretty TTS, a little boxy through the torso, cheap un-breathable knit and cropped length. Not so sure about it.

Also, they had a poly-blend "flannel" pencil that is similar to the plum perfect pencil:
    http://tinyurl.com/l3lwcm

TTS, material is definietly poly-feeling, length is LONG - just past my knees. Still, on promo for $30 I brought it home :) The length definitely dicates heels for me. Now if only there was a cinnabar color...I am not feeling the double seam down the back of the JC pencils...

  41. I have been waiting to see if anyone mentioned the Columbus Circle store ... I found it when I was staying over that way at the Hudson Hotel (TRES groovy, teeny tiny rooms but I got mine for like $60 a night on priceline! :-D). Of course that was in January...anyhoo, I had never even been to that part of town before, really, despite several years of living in NYC ... it's a HUGE store but the staff were VERY standoffish. It did have one of the most enormous sale sections I've ever seen; I remember piles of cashmere sweaters falling off of a giant table and just racks and racks of odds and ends ... that's where my love affair with the double serge wool pencil skirt started. I found one there for $39. Every time I wear it I think of that fun trip to NY! :-D

  42. CheesyGoodness, I saw that Gap corduroy jacket, too! Love!

I actually tried on a honey glaze Jackie at the Crewlet, but was disappointed with the quality and the fit. I left without buying anything. But I stopped at Target on the way home and happened to stumble on the perfect honey glaze cardi. The brand name is Merona, and it was $19.99. Perfect color, feel and fit. Score!

  43. I take back what I said earlier about the wool ruffle-front coat. I decided to try steaming out the fabric around the placket and it ruffled back up perfectly, just as pictured. I was surprised because it looked completely defective when I opened it, but it was just crushed from shipment.

That said, it runs large and boxier than I expected and I can't size down, but it's so cute I'll probably keep it anyway.

  46. Went to B&M (KOP) yesterday to see new arrivals, wasn't supposed to be buying but ended up with a watercolor tortoiseshell skirt before they are all gone, they had a lot of them there. Also got a sweater for hubby.

The 2 new arrivals I really want are the Collegiate sweater (19244) and the Wool studio trouser (17301) in copper. Very good quality for the money IMO. There were quite a few things that were awful (to me): The Carnation tee (19415) flowers were all fraying , the Ribbed ruffle henley (19142) has assymetrical ruffle placket -- huh?? Not impressed by all the ruffly stuff. The jewelry was too big and over the top, I much prefer understated, so I hardly ever buy their jewelry. I really wish they would carry more shoes & boots there, I'm stalking the Cadogan boots and want to try them on before plunking down $225 for them.

I'm like a lot of you, I was totally enthralled by a lot of the men's stuff this time. Wow, but their stuff is even more expensive that the women's!!! Great coats, fabulous sweaters beyond the boring cashmere and merino, nice tartan shirts, flannel shirts (FYI some of which match the boys Crewcuts), and the flannel shirt-jacket (19086) lined with poly! I know... old school but I love. Much better colors in-store than online. I love those Redwing and Sperry boots, too, so very nice on dudes. You really need to have somewhere to wear the Redwings (like work) or else I don't think you need to spend the $$. My hubby tried the McAllister boot but he felt like there should be one more lace-holes on the top because they felt too loose at the ankle. I think maybe if he sized down it would be better?? Any guys out there with an opinion on this?

There were several in-store promotions going on for sweaters, cord trousers and shirts for guys, but not many promotions for women. The sale section was small and pretty much the same as the last time I was there.

  49. Went in to store 507 yest. Picked up the new peacoat they had in stock, even though i have a j crew peacoat from 4 years ago, this was the new classic. I wrote up a positive review of my shopping experience of this particular store and the store manager actually had a gift card for me as a thank you when i got there. That on top of the teacher discount, it was great. Ive gotta stop spending though!

  51. I ended up making a quick trip in on Friday afternoon to pick up the Perfect Pencil skirt in black to wear to my Grandmother's funeral today. The Deco skirt was sold out in sizes 0-6 so I didn't have the chance to try it on like I was hoping. There were a bunch of the black and white Oona tweed skirts available, as well as plenty of the new graphic tees, which I didn't find appealing at all. I am really pretty much over the whole rose/floral/sequin/embellishment graphics at this point and wish they would come up with something new. I got the chance to take a quick look at the new arrivals they got in, but didn't find anything I had to have. The sale section had plenty of bermudas, tank tops, boyfriend military jackets, and captain tees, but that's about it. I left the store with only the pencil skirt I went in for.

  52. casual-crew: The same thing happened to me a couple months ago and as far as I know there isn't an instant fix for it (at least that is what I was told after emailing J.Crew). They have blocked your IP address but it should only be temporary. You will hopefully be able to access the website again in about 6 hours after you first received the message. HTH! :)

  53. Thanks ffm, and sorry to hear about your grandmother.

    ReplyDelete
  54. FFM, sorry to hear about your Grandmother!

I agree with you about the embellished tees. My Seattle store is full of them, but they definitely don't sell as well as some of the other stuff. I think JCrew overdoes them as well, and they're too pricey, imo. Plus, they seem really impractical for this time of year. When the weather is getting colder, most of us aren't going to want to slip on a tissue thin short-sleeve tee, even if it has beading, bows, and corsages sewn on it.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Has anyone seen the rugged Lexi tote IRL? I'm really curious about the colors. The one in the color they call 'port' looks like a really unusual reddish-brown in the portrait shots of it on the website, but looks like a kind of regular pony brown in the picture of it hanging on the mannequin. I'm flashing back to what I experienced with the linen open-front cardigan earlier this summer (which was medium brown in all photos, but greenish gold IRL)...

    ReplyDelete
  56. FFM: So sorry to hear about your grandmother!

I felt the same way about the tees when I saw them yesterday. I almost felt like saying, "enough already! you have enough!" Seems as though they are trying to replicate the original rose tee. Since that one did so well, they probably think, "okay, let's inundate them with similar styles!" but nothing can replace that rose tee. Eh...I'm not impressed (although I did buy and LOVE the new cotton embroidered flowers tee...i think I like it more than I would've liked the chiffon rose tee...)

  57. FFM:I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother. My thoughts are with you and your family.

  58. Can anyone comment on the Deep Rose color? I got a Jackie in the golden cypress, but I just don't see it working with my skin tone very well. I was thinking of exchanging it for the deep rose color, but before I do, wanted to know it was more pinkish, redish, orangish, etc??? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. IRL - I tried that cardi on yesterday. The back of it is cream, which I didn't realize until I tried it on. IMO, it's not as flattering as other long cardis - it didn't seem to have as much shape.

FFM - I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother.

I'm also tired of the tees. How many does one need? And, they're really not appropriate for my school except maybe on Friday's, and even then, I need to "dress them up." It's kind of like the ruffled camis - how many should one person own? I like the idea of having something special under a cardi or jacket, but can't they come with something besides a ruffled cami?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hi AppGal. I own the deep rose Jackie and its a gorgeous, universally flattering color on everyone. Its a reddish pink, not at all orangey. It reminds me of the color of a pomegranate. I love it and get tons of compliments when I wear it.

  61. Globe Trotter: Thanks SO much! That's exactly what I needed. It's so hard to tell exactly what the colors look like online. Thanks again :)

  62. Fabulous Florida Mommy,
My condolences to your family - I am sorry to hear of your loss.
