Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I went yesterday. Sale was an extra 40% off. No sale on regular priced stuff, but there was nothing I wanted, even if it was 100% off. I spent money at Banana (2 linen v neck tees) and Anthropologie (a cute menswear inspired vest).

I noticed that J. Crew has hit a new low on the quality front. There are huge signs for a recall of a kids coat that poses a choking hazard because the buttons fall off. Wow, that really turned me off from shopping there. I have a little one, and it made me so angry that J. Crew has sunk so low with their quality that they are putting little kids in danger. Get your act together.

Also, there seems to be a whole new crop of SAs and managers at my store. I used to know all of them and I didn't recognize a single one in there.

    1. Here's the link in case anyone bought a Crewcuts coat:

    2. So I got an email about the recall because we have one of these coats. I haven't looked at the cost yet because it was packed away for next winter. It seems a little silly to me though because any button poses a choking hazard. Maybe they are not attached as well as in previous versions of the coat. I don't know - but what makes this a recall versus any other coat on the market with buttons? Still haven't decided what I'll do yet.

    3. I assume that while any button poses a choking hazard, these fall off way more easily or something? I know the buttons on my Majesty Peacoat pop off on the regular. Its a minor hassle for me. For a two year old, it could be deadly.

      Delete
    4. I think the recall is because a child could choke on a button that would have detached from the coat. Only an hazard for little kids who would put the thing in their mouth or nose and of course they want to prevent being involved in a legal action in case such a thing happened. Not an issue for older kids so I think you should keep it unless the buttons potentially falling off really bothers you (from a quality point of view, not related to the hazard posed). HTH!

    5. Wow JCrew...you really need to get your act together. Buttons over time become loose, but they should be securely attached to begin with. I routinely resew my buttons on my blazers after I buy them, because they come to me so loose. It's horrible that they would do that with kids clothing though.

    5. Rynetta, those pants look fabulous on you! I'm getting tempted to try them - so far I've seen Ina, Anne and you looking great in them. I know you mentioned buying the micropleated midi skirt, I'm looking forward to seeing pics/styling. :)

    8. yes, I tried cs, thank you! they told me to keep checking the website. enjoy them for me in the meantime :)

    9. Stripedsocks, in my experience when I am searching for something like that CS isn't always the most helpful. I would call a store and see if they can help you. They can check inventory and are usually extremely helpful. I (almost) always find what I am looking for this way. Good luck!

    10. Stripedsocks, I have to exchange something at J Crew right after work today so I can certainly check/ask them to place a hold in my store if they happen to have one? I guess I would just need your name & size, just let me know! good luck in your search either way!

    11. @stripedsocks, the Fifth Avenue store in NYC has a lot of Martie's in gingham, sizes 00-12, fyi, try calling them?

    12. thank you guys so much, that is so sweet! I'm a 2T, so I don't think they have those in stores? Or are there some stores that carry talls? (if so, I'm jealous!) I'm still stalking the website each morning!

  4. Ok. So here we go...A visit to the clearance store yielded the following...Navy icon wool trench (this coat is beautiful, although I think it may be from 2014 but still had tags and is awesome) Calf hair saddlebag in burgandy (bought the navy earlier over there but really wanted the burgandy, it is gorgeous) I picked up a pair of Sunday slim chinos and a fair isle sweater and then the shoes, oh the shoes!!!! Collins black suede loafers, platinum leather sloans, biella metallic tassel loafer (gold) sloan with obi bow in black/gold stripe and obi bow sloan in watercolor floral. I also picked up another pair of the collins tortoise loafers in case I wear the first pair out and one other shoe I can't remember now. I also picked up one pair of earrings that I missed last spring, E3522. They are super cute. They had loads of jewelry if anyone is in the area and lots of other stuff as well, the store was pretty stocked.

  6. Can anyone comment on the fit of the double-serge midi? High on the waist? Full or straight hips? TTS?

    1. Greetings Gigi - I purchased this skirt when it was marked down and with a promo, but before FS, so its (well, they) are sitting in my closet with me trying them on every once in a while to decide if I will keep them. Compared to the No. 2 Pencil Skirt, the waist definitely runs smaller but the hips are slightly bigger. I thought I would have to size up from my usual 6, but while the waist felt better in a Size 8, the hips looked HUGE and the fit was overall just too large. FYI, I have a .7 waist to hip ratio. I have several pairs of tall stiletto boots, and they look super amazing together which is why I bought them (Faye Dunaway in Network is my 1970’s spirit fashionista). I'm more used to the pencil skirt silhouette which falls just above my hips. The A-line seems to fit like a high-rise jean, which is how it looks on the model, so it may just be an issue of getting used to a different fit. It’s a thicker wool, so it’s not super-drapey, but not stiff either. The slit in the front doesn’t bother me because as a winter item, I would wear them with tall boots and tights. Other things to consider are that the skirts are well made and the colors are great. Hope this helps. I keep a running Excel spreadsheet now with item measurements to help decide on sizes, but sometimes I just have to order a bunch to figure it out. Good luck! Jennifer

    2. JenniferD - Thank you for the detailed info! I love the colors, which is why it has been in my wishlist for so long.

  7. I went to exchange my new balance for a size 10 since this version, 696 in navy blue salmon, ran tts. The SA was wearing the collection tie dye silk shirt with jeans & bella tassel loafers in violet ash. Loved the shirt and ordered in store since it popped back in a size 8; 25% off tops & I could stack my educator's discount. The shoes are very cute and I was surprised by how much I liked them. I don't wear loafers much, so I resisted the temptation. I did try on the new Elsie bow tie shoes. I'm a fan of heels & I want a stripe version for spring/summer. Fit was tts and I really liked the look; the only issue for me was the cheap ribbon used. It was already fraying at the ends.

    1. Hi Mygoddy, I'm interested in trying those New Balance, are they comfortable? Are they narrow - my feet are a tad wide and I've never tried NB. I normally take a size 9 at Jcrew and I've been wondering if I need to size up. Thank you!

      Delete
    2. Jan, my feet are on the wideish side (I don't have to purchase wide shoes) and I find them very comfortable. I actually sized down a half size in the gold/salt ones.

    3. Thank you Lauren! I'll have to try them out, glad to hear they are comfortable. The gold ones are really nice too.

    4. Hi Jan, my feet are a normal width, but I think you'll be fine. I have a couple of NB in the 620s, one is a 9.5 & the other is a 10. Agree with Lauren the sneakers are very comfortable; I've found that to be true for NB as a whole. I wear these casually when I'm @ home and they're great for lots of walking when I travel. Hope you like them.

    5. Thank you, Mygoddy! I really like the navy salmon combo hoping it will go with enough colours. I'd like a comfortable shoe for chasing after my little ones so these sound promising. I bought my 4 yr old son NB from Jcrew so might be my only way to kind of match him. :)

Has anyone seen the glitter envelope clutch in real life. I don't really need it with so many things to buy for spring.. But there is something about it maybe.

  10. Ladies, can anyone help with a question about the Matchstick jeans in Preston wash? I'm normally a size 28 in toothpicks but I'm wondering if I should size down in those matchsticks? I'm also wondering how the Preston wash is IRL? Thank you!

    1. Jan, I haven't tried them but Ema (crazyaboutjcrew) reviewed them a while back on IG. The wash looked nice.

    3. @Lauren, thank you so much for your help! I found the review. :)

    4. @Jan, if you care for another fit opinion concerning those Matchsticks, here's my 2 cents: I did size down from my usual Toothpick size for the Matchsticks (went down 1 or 2 sizes, depending on whether they're cords or jeans/petites or not). I really liked that Preston wash when I first saw it in stores, thought it was a refreshingly different blue from the usual dark colors I am drawn to, but both regular sizes I tried didn't work for me, not even when I went up a size or down. I tried one size in two different jeans and they were just too tight, while the next size up was then too baggy. The SAs assured me that they stretch, but I didn't like Crotch attack feeling so I ordered the Petite version but that didn't work either. I gave up on them and last Friday, I happened upon a regular size of them -- again, they didn't work for me. They just weren't meant for me -- very possible that they do end up stretching but I just didn't want to wait it out.

Either way, I hope they work for you -- i think this wash is a really pretty color and like i said, different than the usual dark blue. They do have some whiskering, but it's subtle. HTH!

    5. @TM93- thank you so much for helping! I luckily just managed to try them on in store as they had one pair left in the two sizes I needed. I sized down one size from my toothpick denim size and they worked. A little tight in areas but not overly. They do fit differently than my older style matchsticks. My toothpick size looked odd/too baggy in some areas. It seemed like a bigger difference between the sizes than normal. I bought the smaller size since they were still comfy and reviews seem to say they stretch. I agree the wash is different and nice IRL. The sale price is great! I appreciate the help as I normally have to order online.

  12. Two minor heads-up for Toronto JCAs --

    1. I suspect the item is no longer there now, but if you're into buying things second-hand, I saw a navy school-boy blazer (size 0) at the Kind Exchange located at Yonge and Eglinton earlier this afternoon. From what I remember, it was in very good condition, and only $25 (not sure if it counted for discounts or not). The buttons were covered in aluminum foil, which I'm guessing is to keep them from getting scratched. It's the version that has the two pocket flaps on the right side (so the newer one?).

    2. The green version of the long-sleeve garment-dyed pocket tee was marked down to $9.99 (plus 30%-off, final sale) at Fairview. Not sure why, but there was a red line striking out the barcode. I think it's only that colour though, as I checked out the pink version, and it was still around $44, plus the additional percent off. Unfortunately, I think there were only three green shirts left, and I took the XS, leaving the two S sizes.

Also, for the full-price items that are marked as 25% off for the current promo, it seems like it will not ring up automatically. I got that striped midi skirt today, but the sales associate had to look it up on the iPads, then matched the online price.

    1. I bought the micro pleat midi skirt on Thursday, so I went today to Yorkville for a price adjustment. I also bought another vintage tee. The SA didn't know that the skirt was 25% off, so I showed her on my phone. I also showed her my educators ID to stack the discounts, and she wouldn't do it. I didn't feel like pressing her, but two days ago a different SA at that store stacked discounts for a vintage tee. I am beyond tired of the inconsistent policy on stacking the educators' discount with non universal discounts (sale items or discount on select items).

      Delete
    2. Thanks for the info Xan.
Erica, I totally agree about being tired of the inconsistencies. I have never been able to use my teacher discount on an item on promo in a Canadian store. ie a skirt that is 25% off should still count for the educator discount. I even emailed cs before for confirmation about this (was told that universal promos like 30% off entire purchase don't count but specific items on promo do). It's not worth arguing with the store so I don't bother.

  14. Went to Markville today, their sale section was full of stuff from last summer (the crinkle cotton tassel skirts, tees, shoes) and I scooped some metallic Seville espadrilles for about $25 - key is, when I asked whether the educator discount could be applied, the SA said they had just changed the rules about 2-3 weeks ago! That it was actually possible to apply the discount on top of the 30% extra off sale now, whereas it wasn't before. So some hope for us Canadians on that front - start asking again, ladies!

    2. Cagliari67 (or any other Ontarians),
Can I ask a question about the educator's discount? How do you show proof? I am a current member of the OCT (dues paying, etc) but am not teaching at the moment. Just wondering if I would qualify. I don't want to unfairly take advantage of the discount, but I was just curious if I might be eligible. TIA.

      Delete
    3. @Cagliari67 and jeannie, thank you, I hope all stores do this again like they used to! I was just at one but didn't think to try my educator discount on sale stuff since they always said no.
Do you know if it works on the items that were 25% off in store?
@R- I show my OCT membership card or my OSSTF card.
