JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. HALP! Does anyone know what the name of this JC print is?

Sorry for the bad pic - the lights are off in my office & I didn't realize it was rotated until it uploaded. :)

I bought this top on Poshmark & I just love it! Wearing it with the sleeveless Factory button-up (longer-length) in cream, Old Navy Pixie pants in navy, & the Sloan pumps in chartreuse suede (clearance store find - think they were a sample).

    3. Hi Taylor - it's the "Misty Fog Floral" print from January 2014 (back when they actually produced January catalogs). Really cute!

    4. Thank you, silver_lining! I googled & googled but couldn't find it. Maybe I should have looked through my stack of style guides. :)

    5. This is so weird - I can't find this top online. It looks like maybe somebody turned the dress into a top! It has side pockets too. Oh well, I love it, I don't care what it started out as.

    6. That's so cool! I wonder if it started as a Jules dress - those were so short.

    7. The dress does look VERY short. This makes sense though because when I asked the seller if she could tell me the style number, she couldn't find the tag other than the JC tag with the size at the back of the collar. If it started as a dress the other tag would have been sewn into the side seam near the bottom. Whoever altered this did a great job - I never would have known had I not done some digging!

    8. They made quite a few things in that print, there was a regular shirt, pants, a popover, and two dresses, one very short and one rather normal -,https://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/shirtsandtops/casualshirts/PRDOVR~08983/08983.jsp

    9. wellfedfred - the shift dress is stunning in this print. I am not big on florals in general but like to get at least one piece from each floral JC puts out, go figure. Glad I caught this dress-turned-top in my size!

    10. Greetings Taylor - Yes, it's the Misty Fog Floral. It looks like you have the shift dress on - I didn't like it, and it was too short for me. I don't do minis anymore except for summer skirts that sub for shorts. I really liked the print though and have it in a Collection silk blouse, Collection pant, and cotton popover.

    11. JenniferD - I do NOT do minis anymore either! Someone wise made the decision to turn this mini-dress into an appropriate-length top & I am reaping the benefits of it! Now it's making me see mini-dresses in a whole new light. ("Could this be a top?")

    13. I like mini dresses and my mom wore them too, it might be a petite thing though. Got to give those legs a chance and shift dresses are so comfortable.

    14. Jessica - my 5'7"-self cannot do mini-dresses & I am envious of those who can... I used to on occasion rock a mini in my early 20s but mid-30s mom + my height = no bueno. ;)

  3. FYI. I think stores had markdowns last night. I got a pair of the collection calf hair boots (e1188) that had been marked down to $99.99 less 30% off. They are still $199.99 online and I think that is what they were until today in store. I have the sloan calf hair in the same print so I think I will really enjoy the boots especially for the price. I think they were $398.00 to begin with.

  4. Hey guys, I need advice. The gemstone flannel just popped back in my size, but it's final sale and no discount, like it had been all week before the sale promo ended :( Should I buy it and just hope that it goes back on promo within the week so I can get a price adjustment?? I don't want to pay $70 when I know it has been MUCH lower recently (but never in my size...)

    Thanks

    1. Hmmm...good question. I am in the same predicament with something I want to purchase. I would be surprised if they didn't add a percentage off sale soon. I bet it will only be an extra 30% off though. I have done this lots before and it panned out but you just never know. Can you get to a store and order it? That way you could get the extra % off. If not, I would say if you really want it then go for it. You have 7 days for a price adjustment from when the item ships (not the day you placed your order).

    2. Stores have 30% off sale. Just call a store and ask them to order it for you if you don't live near one. If you live near a store you can use the red phone and get the additional percentage off. I have this shirt and it is one of my favorites. I have even called CS and explained to them I tried to get an item when it was additional percentage off and sometimes they will honor for you. There are many ways to skin this cat to get the discount, don't give up. They will often give you free shipping if the store orders it for you. Charleston, SC store is very helpful and so is the store in Charlotte, NC.

    3. Just order with a VPS and you get the discount and FS

    4. So for example if we called a store we knew a JCA worked at to place an order we'd get whatever the additional store discount was? AND free shipping?

    5. @Suz Has i meant an online VPS
I sent you a DM on IG

  5. I went into a store today to make some returns. I didn't try anything on because I was rushed and had my small children with me. But I noticed that they had an extra 30% off sale as others have mentioned. I also saw they were offering 30% off v neck cardigans and 25% off toothpicks. I didn't see anything that was really exciting to me. I noticed the blue and red floral print since I think it was the only print in the store. The shorts are very soft in the print (more so than the regular chino shorts). I might consider those when they get marked down. Their are a few sale items I'm still interested in but I'm not buying them without an extra % off.

    2. Strange. I am on mobile so maybe that's why. It's item e0620, the vintage cotton dolman tee, and the pictured skirt is a blush pink longer-than-a-mini-but-not-knee-length a-line with some cute seaming details.

  9. I Love the pink checked? twin-set that Caroline Murphy is wearing with the red sunglasses on the mobile splash page. Does anybody know what it is? A Jackie set?

    1. Ema - It's a featherweight gingham cashmere cardigan and shell - apparently not available until March. I don't have any pricing info though but we could guess based on what items they are.

    2. Thank you Anne! I was hoping it wouldn't be a $400 cashmere set, grrr...Will see when it comes ou!
