J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Slightly OT but an item I've been obsessing about: does anyone have the Haroer Tassel Mules? They were out last spring. A pointy toe ivory mule with a tassle. I found a pair in my store and tried them on and couldn't believe how flattering they were on, but I didn't get them because it seemed like they were impossible to walk in. (And they were a great price too!) I'd love to know if anyone actually wears them and if they are comfortable for walking. (They seemed like they'd fall off as you walked.)

    1. Edited to add, this was last spring that I saw them in store, and didn't get them, not currently.

    2. I have them. They are gorgeous and stay on ok if worn with bare feet. They are not for lots of walking but mules never are. If you scroll back to early fall you can see them on my IG @shoppingcelle

    3. I bought and ended up returning as I knew the height was beyond my comfort level. I really wanted to keep them but knew they would end up collecting dust. Worth hunting down at a cheap price of you think you will get your $ worth. The quality as I recall was very good.

    4. They look great @shoppingcelle!

    5. Hmm thinking of wrong shoe. Sorry about that. Too early to think.

    6. I have them as well and I absolutely love them. I have the black leather and the cream tassel. They are very comfortable and stay on fine with bare feet as mentioned above. I got the cream ones a little late in the season at the clearance store so I think I only got to wear them once but can't wait for them this spring.

    8. Suz Has, I can't seem to reply directly to your comment but I would echo the other commenters. I have both the Harper tassel mules and the plain black and I wear them constantly. They are super easy to walk in with bare feet. I don't think they'd work with socks, hose or tights. The tassel mules get so many comments. There are lots of mules out there, the tassel is very unique. The black are my go-to weekend shoes. They look good with jeans, Bermuda shorts, skirts, you name it. I wore them all over Las Vegas a few months ago, walked miles in them in comfort.

    9. I'm so upset I didn't get them!!!

    10. I have the metallic Harper mules and love mine as well. No problems keeping them on. I like wearing them with cropped pants and shorts in the summer...super chic.

    11. I have the white mules with the black tassel, too. They stay on fine with bare feet, although I don't think I'd wear them on any sort of walk-about for a day. I noticed the other day there was a pop-back on the yellow Harper mules in a size 9. If they were my size, I would have ordered them. :-)

    12. I also have the white Harper's with tassels and the black plain ones. I caught the white ones on pop-back not too long ago (November) so they may pop up again I guess. I ordered half a size up in both pair.

    13. Lol, well, I reached out to a VPS to ask and she recommended the Biella loafers Instead. :(. Not even close to the same look, though it was nice for her to try.

    14. If anyone happens to see them ANYWHERE please let me know. I tried on a 9.5 (they seem to run small) but I think a 9 would work too.

    15. (I. Noticed them on eBay but prices are outrageous. I could kick myself for not getting them from the store.)

  2. Has anyone tried on the collection suede lace back dress (e8684) ? I was wondering if it's TTS. Very expensive, so it would have to look perfect to consider buying even if a promo was offered!

  3. I bought the cotton Patio Pants to try out and wore them on a trip to Hawaii recently. After a few hours, they bagged out, unfortunately. My recommendation would be to size down in those, just as some of the reviews mentioned (and I opted not to....).

  4. FYI-OT-Everlane is finally branching out into colors on their cotton tees. Few months ago they did a print. If JCrew continues with their deteriorating quality, these companies like Everlane will slowly but surely fill that void, as they continue to explore color and prints. Granted, Everlane is a small online company but they have so much growth potential and went from having initially 300 customers to 300,000+. So far I'm happy with the pieces from them, and I do appreciate knowing where my items are made and who makes them. We'll see what new head designer Rebecca Bay, who used to be with Gap, has in store for Everlane as well as JC's new women designer, Peter S. Can't wait till Fashion Week!

    1. Oops-you're right, JSR, I meant to say Somsack, not Peter (I was thinking about another retailer). Can't keep track-as they say in fashion- "one day you're in, the next, you're out!)

    2. Haha! Wheew..for a second I thought J.Crew found a new Women's designer. I can't wait to see the collection (I think its next week?).

  5. This is also OT, but does anyone have the pixie pants with the leather tuxedo stripe? How do they fit, and are they as versatile as they look to be? I always stress when I want to order something that is labeled with the dreaded Final Sale.

    1. I have a pair from a few years ago and live in them. I ordered a pair final sale this year with the suede and love those too. Both of these pairs are in black and this is apparently key because the FS pair I ordered in grey with the leather tux stripe were like cardboard. Even though they were final sale I took them back to the store and the SA shook his head and it was no problem to return the unwearable pants.

Also, after the first wear either new or after dry cleaning I slip them off and on without unhooking or unzipping the back and this makes life easier!

    2. Hi there I have the black pair and I love them! I find them very versatile as long as you have sufficient numbers of tops that cover your bum :) I sized down like crazy I am not sure what advice others would give.

    3. I have them in charcoal and love them. I found they fit better than Pixies of prior years because they have a higher rise. I ordered my regular size 4 and they fit great. Not skin tight but comfortable.

  6. What is up with the "new" No. 2 pencil skirts?! There is a new skirt on the website, it has one review, and has ONE star. It says it's horrible and to bring back the old cotton one. I can't live without the old one!! Anyone else notice this?!

    1. Yikes -- thanks for pointing this out! Guess I won't be adding any new no2 pencils to my closet. I loved the old style, & still have an embarrassing number of them in cotton, wool, etc. Guess I'd better hoard my stash.

  9. I haven't had time to post photos on my blog, but the recent pencil skirt in metallic jacquard (c9156)was disappointment for me. I sized up from my regular pencil skirt size and it was still tight, going up another size would have been too big and not fit right. It has zero stretch. The slits are weird - sort of triangle cutouts on the side and makes the skirt look funny at the hem, like it's uneven. It looks so pretty online and I was disappointed in person - the glitter reads a bit cheap to me. I have several items that J.Crew has done extremely well in jacquard and I wasn't impressed by this one. It also seems like a fall item and not a spring item. On the plus side, I'm 5'8" and it hit at the knee which was a welcome change.

  11. OT but I just noticed that BR has added videos to a number of their items. Boden does this too. I really appreciate being able to see the model walk a bit and turn out in the item -- hint, hint, to J. Crew.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Okay J Crew, here's the deal. You want to wean us away from promotions and 40% off sale - I get it. But for us to pay full price (or close to it), you have to knock the merchandise out of the park (or some of it at least). You can't have it both ways - poor quality, ill fitting clothes at high prices. I just bought a satisfactory T shirt at full price, but it was only $45, and I probably could have found that style anywhere. That ain't a business model.

We're looking at you to step it up - sooner than later.

  13. I ordered the latest Classic Merino Long Cardigan - and it looks like my older ones! Long and slim! Not boxy! Same length as one I have from SU 14. Lightweight merino is about same as well. So happy! I was worried I'd never get a replacement in gray ( put my elbow through the last one from constant wear).

  15. Can anyone advise on the sizing of the Campbell blazer in wool flannel? I wear an 0P in the Regent blazer. Any reviews would be greatly appreciated!
