"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. My vent is - where the heck are rewards cards?? I was checking posts from previous periods and, for example, the year before people were posting they'd received cards by Oct 23rd or thereabouts for the period ending 9/30. If going by that schedule, we should've already received, almost 2 weeks ago.

    1. SERIOUSLY!
even if the physical card hasn't arrived, emailed cards should have been sent in time for new arrivals.

Also... Can I please get a little discount code? Even if it were only 20% I would have bitten. This weird % off of a select section stinks. Nothing I want is ever included.

    2. The past week, when I've checked my account, I learn that no information on rewards is available at this time.

The CS at Comenity Bank were not helpful.

    3. I'm tired of waiting for my rewards card too! 4-6 weeks for delivery is crazy right? Fingers crossed they let me apply it to an order that I've already placed.

  2. My vent ... Is it my imagination or are the exclusions to promos getting bigger and bigger? Everything on my wish list in the past few weeks has been excluded.

    It's really annoying.

    1. Agree. Hardly anything on my wishlist has qualified for promo. Promos have been really disappointing in general the past few months...I guess they are trying to retrain us to paying full price again. How can we retrain them to make the previous level of quality they used to?

    2. I've noticed that as well -- 40% off 'select' final sale didn't apply to the one item I was interested in :| And it's a holiday item!

    1. It's ludicrous! I keep thinking maybe card holders will get a special email saying additional 40% off sale or something. Ha, wishful thinking.

  5. Just a repost from yesterday...I think I put this vent in the wrong place :) Just sad....and most clearance that was 40-60 off before now has no percent off for the same old junk...Went to store Mon. night...sad sight..sale section was extra 30 off for same junk that had been 50 off a week ago....good luck to them selling any of it now....so over j crew lately....theres nothing thats on sale or even new thats nice.

  6. I did order a pair of Sunday slim chinos in cobalt blue this morning that are on sale for $39.99 less 30% off they honored because of the sale in store. The SA told me that they are getting away from so many promos. We won't see 40% or 50% off hardly at all anymore. I wanted a pair of corduroy toothpicks but they are still $69.99 and even with 30% off they would still be about $50.00. No thank you. I will wait it out. I really won't buy anything full price from J.Crew any more. If it doesn't go on sale, I don't need it. I find plenty at the clearance store to keep me going. They have been running great promos over there and I sure hope those aren't going to come to a halt as well. Buying less J.Crew is not the end of the world by any stretch of the imagination. Sometimes I think I need to get a life that I am so worried or upset because I can't spend money on stuff that I don't even need or some retailer doesn't make stuff I like. Giving myself a reality check over here.

    1. If they truly are discontinuing the % off promos, they will be in serious trouble north of the border. They have already increased prices by 30-40% over US prices, without a discount promo their clothing is just too expensive for the quality and the demographic. For example - the oversized plaid popover is $78 on the American side, $102 on the Canadian (barely worth the former, much less the latter) . Every time I go into a store, it is nearly deserted. Crew may be getting their own reality check.

    2. Soooo agree with you, DD! I love my wardrobe but it's carefully edited. Being a J Crew Fashion Victim in head-to-toe new arrivals at FP is not something I aspire to. I am much more discerning about my J Crew purchases and buy just what I love.

    3. agreed....Canadians will not pay the already over inflated prices.

    4. if so ...its goodbye J Crew up here in Canada. we are already paying too much. They will be closing the doors up here sooner or later .

    5. If they think they can survive carrying their items at full price with the decrease in quality and poor quality control of what they send out and carry in store, they have another thing coming.

All of the cardigans I bought this fall are fairly peely, which at $20-30 is fine. I'll get my Sept through May use out of them and throw them away, but I would never pay investment prices for them. Never. And tbh and I should probably start buying cardigans that will last more than a season from someplace else all together, I just haven't figured out where to go.

Very few things are worth full price and there are so many lemons they really set the image for the entire brand at this point.

  7. I received a dress in the mail that had two places marked in red tape showing me where there was obvious makeup stains and damage to the dress. Really, J. Crew??

    1. Yuck!

I received the third pajama set this winter that had no bottoms. So annoying. It's obvious just looking at the bag that there's not a full set!

      Delete
    2. NO bottoms? That's so ridiculous. How does that happen once, let alone three times?

    3. I have no clue, ruffles. There must be a pajama bottom thief in the distribution center! Watch them all show up at a warehouse sale. ; )

  8. Can't believe what I got today. The top I ordered back on January 4th that was apparently lost at the Rockefeller Center store before it even shipped. Where were you hiding??? Don't need two. If anyone needs the stripe tee in red with the bow embellished back in XL, let me know and maybe we can work out a sale. I usually take a L in tops but I thought this one ran small. If not, I will be returning.

  9. The updated mobile web site looks pretty but is super slow and extra sensitive. I inadvertently barely touch and it sends me spinning to a category I have no interest in.

    1. Vent 2: Quality control at the warehouse needs to be improved. When things are returned there may be a reason: damage, shrinkage from being laundered, stains etc. Please give items a look over before you send them back out.

  10. I am so over their current "This and That" sale. Ugh. I know what I want and it isn't anything that they have so unwittingly selected! Grrrrrr.

  11. Me and J.Crew are officially done.
I unfortunately bought the "perfect" shirt which turned out to be far from perfect. The shirt is very transparent and the buttons are gapping over the ladies. I am not even close to being busty. If I had gone one size up, the shirt would have been too big in the back.
I need to learn to say no to final sale. I also don't think that it is fair that they do final sale for tall sizes. We tall ladies can't even try on the clothing in store. I have gone to J,crew to try on clothing and then ordered the taller versions only to find out that they were too big or too small (Regent Blazer, Cone Denim, Midnight Floral jumpsuit...)

  12. I have the Factory Linen-Cotton Mini Skirt on my J Crew Factory wishlist (got the flax one last year by sheer luck on a popback and love it!), and I've noticed that the price on it keeps fluctuating, depending on the promo. For awhile, it was 'on sale' for around $52. Then it jumped up to 'on sale' at $59 during, I think the 30%-off your purchase deal. Then I think it went back down to $52, only to jump back up to $57.50 for the current $20-off $100 promo! I'm aware J Crew plays the pricing game all the time, but this if the first time I've watched it played out in real-time, and it's weird.

    1. Yes-it's very weird. You probably already know, but your best bet is to watch it during the end of a 'prices as marked' sale, and buy during the nighttime window when the promo is changing to a % off sale (12 am ET) but prices haven't yet been marked back up. HTH!

    2. That actually never occurred to me before, but that makes a lot of sense and I will definitely keep it in mind for next time! Thank you so much!

  13. so i asked CS about the rewards cards... she said THEY HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN MAILED YET!

that the credit card site is wrong. WTF?!

    ReplyDelete

    1. This is ridiculous. Not sure why other store credit cards can have the rewards available immediately and J crew takes two months and then gives you about a month only to use. I have a few things on my cart but w/ no% off sale and no rewards to use I probably will not buy. Really trying to stick to my 2016 budget .

  14. Just another gripe. Received my $25 off $100 or more for my b day as a perk from the j crew credit card. Ended up not using it as the things I wanted to use it on were excluded. Why can't they just send a $25 gift card good towards anything. That would be much more useful at least to me.

    1. I didn't even get a bday rewards card, so you are one up on me. My wish-list items would probable be excluded anyway...

    2. Andrea, it's not a birthday gift card. It's instead a $25 coupon off a $100+ purchase, which means you have to use it on full price items or forego whatever % discount is being offered on sale items at the time since you cannot combine coupons (at least not online). In other words, totally useless. I didn't use mine either.

  15. What is going on with Jcrew's sale % off. It was 60% a few weeks ago and now it's 40% off final?! Without any decreases off the base price, I might add. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!! Good move Jcrew. What a wonderful way to p.o. your customers.

  16. and only 30% off final sale online.

  17. Love, love, love my Chateau Parka! I wore it this past Monday to an event in Kalispell, and received numerous compliments on it. More details and a few pics on my blog today for those interested. :)
