Extra 30% off J.Crew's Final Sale

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Rosie & GigiOfCa (in this post), who shared the following email & news from J.Crew.

J.Crew is offering customers to take 30% off all sale items (no min) with promo code EXTRA30. This offer expires Friday, July 19, 2013. The fine print includes:
*Offer valid on purchases of final sale items in J.Crew stores and at jcrew.com from July 15, 2013, 12:01am to July 19, 2013, 11:59pm ET only. Offer not valid in J.Crew Factory stores, Ludlow Shops or the 769 Madison Avenue store, at jcrewfactory.com or on phone orders. Offer cannot be applied to previous purchases or the purchase of gift cards and cannot be redeemed for cash or used in combination with any other offer. Offer not valid on third-party branded merchandise. Discount on store purchases applied at register. To redeem online, enter code EXTRA30 in the promo code box at checkout. Limit one promo code per order. Offer valid in the U.S. and Canada only. All sales are final. No exchanges or returns. Terms of offer are subject to change.
I am really happy to see 30% off their sale online. However, as many of you have mentioned, the brick & mortar stores were offering an additional 40% off. I am curious if stores will lower the percentage or keep it the same.

Lastly, I have to agree with so many of you that J.Crew should just offer a mega-percentage off and clear out their sale merchandise. I am kind of surprised to see how many items from previous seasons are still lingering in their Sale section (both online and stores). Just seems like J.Crew would want to move it out to make room for their new arrivals.

Will you be checking out the Sale section? Are there any items you are hoping to see or to get?

  1. I can't think of anything I'm interested in. My guess is it'll be 30% off in-store, matching the legalese. We just never know w/J Crew, though.

  2. If there was a sale update this morning, it must have been small. Yawn!

    1. I was up at 5:30 am eastern. There were a few popbacks but nothing much on my want list. At least this week we don't have to stay up late to see what the sale du jour is and then get up early to hunt for popbacks.

    2. They need to mark down the prices further if they want this stuff to go. Even with the 30% I'm seeing stuff that's more expensive than what I paid in-store a whole month ago.

  3. my wish list updated to show which of my wishes went on promo! and, also, which "sold out" - I'm interested in seeing if any of those will update to show popbacks.

  4. The daily promo thing didn't really tempt me all week, and 30% off sale isn't that motivating either, unless I see a popback that I'm dying for. I pretty much cleaned out the sale sections of everything I wanted during the extra 40%, so I'm content to chill and wait for the new rollout on July 24.

Unless I come across another Tartine ...

  5. Appreciate the additional percent off, however, I think I'll wait until I can visit a B&M. I wanted to purchase a couple more necklaces for gifts...the in store price, 29.99, on-line price 59.99. $30.00 price difference--Really, J.Crew?!?

  6. I placed a full priced order on Sunday, and now the items are in the sale section. I called to get a price adjustment for the sale price + 30% off. When I asked what the amount was that would be refunded to my card, the SA was clueless and twice did the math wrong. She said she was sending the request on to someone else who would actually do the math/make the adjustment. The amount she told me was about $50 less than what it should be, but she assured me that the adjustment would account for both the sale price and the 30%. I really don't think it's too much to expect for them to tell me the exact amount that is being refunded to my card!

The SA couldnt figure out the adjustment and i had to do the math.

  7. I was in the store yesterday and I scored a few items I'd been watching for several weeks at better prices than I'd hoped to find. So I'm really glad I waited them out instead of buying online, since I didn't know to size down in the striped Vintage Cotton Tanks until I tried them on. (I should have, since vintage cotton has always run big for me, but it's been a while since I bought any of it.)

So I was happy to find a pair of Scout chinos in Natural for and each of the 3 colors of the striped vintage cotton tank (navy, gray and pink) ... all 4 items were $19.99 before an extra 40% off so it was about $50 for everything. Very happy with that price. I do need to cut the pockets out of the Scout chinos and sew them shut though. Too much bulk in a bad place for me.

I really wanted the sleeveless sun shirt from online this morning, as it would match the midnight paisley bikini really well. But it seems to fit the model differently than the way the product shot appeared to be cut. I didn't want something with a high neck, and when you look at the item photo, it doesn't have a high neck. Then look at the model, it fits her quite close around the neck. Oh well. So I let it go.

  8. I could not stop myself from purchasing the Boy Shirt in Seahorse. I love this pattern and have been waiting to be able to get a piece at a reasonable price and it does not get more reasonable than that. I have a rather large seahorse tattoo on my arm and the little creatures just thrill me.

  9. I've had my eye on the Janey Liberty Print Flats (the yellow multi ones) for ages now, and my size is the only size left! Does anyone here have these? Looking to be talked into or out of this : )

  10. I agree. I just think so much of their stuff has been waaayyyy over-priced even w/a discount. But the thing is, even when I go in the store, there's not much I'm feeling I have to have. Just basics, and only on super-sale for me. Even the catalogs have been ho-hum.

  11. Yeah, I really don't understand JC's pricing right now. I was astonished to see this morning that an item that I wanted has been marked down from $38 to $36.99 - an astonishing $1.01 off. Even with 30% off the sale price, the item is not even close to a buy-able price.

On the one hand, a lot of us enjoy the pricing games, whether we admit it or not. But at times, JC gets ridiculous and a little patronizing, like the item above.

I'm finding now that I'm buying JC items only when (pricing) lightening strikes rather than when I want to generally buy clothes for me or my family.

  12. last night the store at SF Westfield was heavily picked over. Lots of cashmere and patterned pants. and if you wear a size 8 in shoes or above there were some heels left.

  13. I only purchased a swimsuit and rash guard w/ this sale. Not much else is tempting me. Bummed the free shipp for swim is over, but I'm still happy w/ what I bought.

    2. Pamela - What did you think about the rash guard sizing? I bought M, but thought S might fit better. I'm not sure how it's supposed to fit.

    3. Gigi, I think a rashguard is supposed to be fit snugly. J. Crew also has what they're calling a sun shirt and that is less fitted. I bought the sun shirt in a size Medium and it is not snug at all, which is how I like it, but if you are going for more of a classic rashguard, your regular size in a rashguard will probably be snug because that's how theyr'e meant to fit. I have not tried on their rash guards, though. I don't know if I'm making sense...

    4. cate - Thanks for the sizing help. I might exchange if it's still available in the small.

    5. Gigi, I think the rashguard would be snug in any size, it's what they do. I'll bet there's not much difference between the Medium and the Small. Let us know when you get it, though, I'd be interested to hear how the rashguards fit.

    6. i bought the hibiscus rash guard a while back... i usually float between XS and S tops and i went with the S in the rash guard and it fits perfect. i'm usually a size 2 in perfect shirts.

i hope that helps a little.

    7. gigi, I bought an M in the striped rash guard, and it's arriving today. I hope it isn't loose, but it doesn't sound like it will be. I think we're about the same size!

I also ordered the punk floral bikini, and I wanted the seahorse bikini as well (with the boy shorts) but the top keeps jumping out of my cart. Oh well... really don't need two new swimsuits, now do I?

    8. cate & MissJR - Thanks for rash guard sizing info. I returned the carribean stripe. Too bright/strong for me, and this coming from a stripesick person. Hoping the next one I ordered will be better.

JCrewJD - It only seemed a little big under the arm, right at the bust. It fit everywhere else. I just didn't feel right in it, plus the color pattern. Hoping the next one is better. It would be good sun protection. Maybe the seahorse top will get another cut & you'll snag it then ;) Those hoppin' popobacks!

    1. In-Store Price Guide for review, or if it's your first time seeing it.

A recent addition is the maritime placed stripe blazer, vanilla marked $69.99. I like the maritime, but didn't like how creamy the "vanilla" is. Definitely not white-white.

  15. I agree with Gigi on the placed stripe blazer. It looked off-white on my monitor, but IRL it has more of a yellow tint than I expected.

I just picked up the medium biennial satchel in jade in store. It was ticketed at $189.99, so $114 before tax. Based on what I see in the sale section, it will take new markdowns and 50% to clear the old stuff away.

  16. Not sale items, but received the Geometric Eyelet top in Heather Pewter (#03334) and the Silk Blouse in Parisian Blue (#02879). After I ordered the Geometric Eyelet top, I realized it was a mistake. The cutwork is beautiful and I love the color, but it really is cut right out. You have to wear something under it, and I don't like to layer. Too bad, but maybe I will try the printed navy version. The hem is slightly shirt-tail. Back button at the neckline. It fit me a bit too tight in my regular size. There is no stretch or give in the fabric. Really cute if you can layer it.

The Silk Blouse is beautiful in the Parisian Blue color. It has a sheen to it, but I kind of liked that. Covered front placket. I think it is more fitted than the Blythe silk blouse, like someone said. I may return it because I don't like to pay full price, but if I do, I will re-buy it again as soon as I find a sale or promo on it. Really pretty color.

  17. The local stores are having a 40% off sale items and 30% off tees.

I think soon we will see a 50% off sale items like we did last year - just a hunch. :)

Also, I found out that hair accessories have a lifetime warranty (keep the receipt). I broke my tortoise small claw last year soon after I got it, and finally splurged on a new one.

    1. 50% off and free shipping/no minimum is what they really need to clear out all the sale inventory online. Glad to hear that the stores are still offering 40% off at least. Maybe they'll change the online promo to 40% off before the week is over.

  19. OT. But it looks like J Crew/Comenity Bank have listened to JCAs complaining about how are rewards calculated. Unless this is just news to me, there is a detailed accounting of all +'s and -'s for reward calculation. Under Home >Account Activity > My rewards. Plus it is noted how much your current reward is worth and when mailed. Mine was mailed 7/2 but says to allow 4-6 weeks for delivery...how is coming to Colorado..Pony Express or Slow Boat from China???

  22. I went to the factory store in lynchburg today and they have changed everything and not for the better! I am heartbroken to report that they say that they are no longer going to be doing warehouse/sample sales, at least not in lynchburg. they have expanded the store at the warehouse on millrace, but they have also closed the other store on northwynd (the one that had crewcuts and madewell). the new store is bigger with women's, men's, crewcuts, and a tiny madewell section, but it didn't seem like it was that much bigger than the two stores combined had been. the prices were the same as they always have been at those stores--nothing like at the sales.

there was no explanation as to why they are stopping the sales or what are they going to do with all of the merchandise (I heard a couple of the salespeople talking about the warehouse still packed full of stuff that they don't have any clue what to do with). my guess is that someone new is running the place--they stopped sending out emails about the warehouse sales and about in store promos, or at least no one I know has gotten one in months. I asked about emails with promotions when I was in the store today (50% off swim right now, for example) they said they aren't doing emails any more.

  23. I can't wait for the August roll-out online next week. This spring/summer collection has been on the safe side (no wonder these % off promos are being offered like crazy), nothing exciting...and the ones I liked are too expensive, or sold out from pre-order.

  24. Has anyone seen the Cece's in mineral grey in real life? Judging from the image on my monitor, it's exactly the color I'm looking for. Since it's final sale though, I was scavenging for reviews and found one that said it's pretty much white! Not what I'm looking for at all, so any advice would be greatly appreciated:)

I've noted the newest additions in this post.

  27. Was so excited to snag the red Barbour coat this morning. I had ordered it in the spring on popback in my normal coat size (4), but it was too snug for a sweater, so I ordered up to a 6. Not sure if there are any left, but it's super cute and a nice true red.

    1. shopwithm: I got the Barbour jacket this morning, too. The sale price was just too good to pass up with the extra % off, plus it isn't final sale. I also sized up one from my normal jacket size, and hope that it fits well. I won't really need to layer a sweater underneath, but do want to make sure I have plenty of room in the shoulders.

    2. Hooray FFM! It was such a good price, and loved that it wasn't FS. It was really snug in my normal size, so I think sizing up was a good choice.

  30. There was yet another large update this morning. A few more of the Lulu Frost pieces went on sale today, and they are not marked as final sale right now. I've noted them, as well as several items that were marked down yesterday, but sold out before I could catch their sale price (which I did get with today's update) at the top of this post.
