Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Madewell - Review of the Jessie sandal. Black is $89.99 in-store vs regular price online.

  3. Does anybody know what time Madewell updates? I've been trying to catch a popback. You can send me an e-mail if you don't want to post it here.

  4. Tory Burch Pre-Fall 2013 is on the website. The Lookbook looks are stunning but wearable. Interesting to compare it to J. Crew's.

    1. I wish I could find a store that carries Tory Burch, I would like to try some things on. Do you know what retailers carry Tory Burch? Nordstroms is probably my best hope but I don't think I've ever seen it there.

Or, do you know an online retailer that sells Tory Burch with free shipping both directions?

      Thanks!

    2. cate: Nordstrom does sell Tory Burch, and so does Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale's. They don't carry her entire collections, but do often sell many pieces from them.

    3. Thank you FFM! I don't live near NM or Bloomingdales, but maybe Nordstroms will have something.

    4. Cate, I usually go to Nordstrom or NM as well.

    5. Shopbop has Tory Burch selections. They have exceptionally fast and free shipping with no minimums. It'll generally ship the same day or on the next day without fail, except maybe during their wildly popular semi-annual F&F sales. On the other hand, you do have to make your decision quick if you want to get free returns within their 15 day (from date of receipt) return frame. They say to allow at least seven days for returns to get back to them. After that time frame, they will charge you $10 for returns. When they receive your return, they are also very quick to process. Usually they seem to process it the same day they receive it.

Nordstrom and NM offer free shipping both ways (NM sometimes has minimums, plus you have to remember to enter their monthly code) and have more generous return time frames but they can take a while to process orders and returns. For me, Shopbop is way worth it most of the time because I don't like to wait, but if I know I may have trouble deciding, I'll go with Nordstrom with their unconditional returns.

    6. Another + about Shopbop--they will price match. It seems they generally mark down their items after other retailers, but if you find it on sale at another online retailer, you can give CS a call and direct them to the product page at other retailer. The other retailer does not even have to have it in your size and color. The style just has to match and CS has to be able to find the product page and verify the discounted price, and they will place the order for you over the phone and manually adjust the price.

A great way to make use of this is when a retailer like NM has their beginning of season sale (usually something like 25%-40% off, I can't remember), and you can get a price match even if it has sold out in your size on the other site. This way you can get the item you want on pretty significant sale at the beginning of the season, plus you get really fast shipping.

    7. Thank you so much clotted creame! I bought from ShopBop once and they were fast like you said. I will take a look there too. That is very cool about the price matching.

    8. Just double checked the price match policy on Shopbop--it does have to be the identical style and color. Anyway, best to read the policy online, and CS is very helpful. I've used this feature several times and have gotten good deals.

  5. I love, love, love the white flower necklace from Anthropologie. I've gotten so many compliments on it and it was only $68!

  7. New to this blog so I'm not sure what people have mentioned before, but Kate Spade definitely comes to mind. Pricier but superior quality and you can find deals if you look hard. Marimekko is also cool if you're into J Crew's artsier offerings. However, note that Marimekko has a very avant-garde (roomy and kind of shapeless) fit.

If you're a vintage or eBay shopper, check out some of Marc by Marc Jacobs' separates (especially cardigans) from the early to mid-2000s. They had some beautiful-quality embellished ones from that time. I still wear them. They coordinate really well with J Crew basics.

  8. Gap brands - STARS30 for 30% off across BR, ON & Gap ends tonite. The highlights.

  9. I'm a year late on the trend, but here's a post on lucite clutches.
