"Thanks!" to J.Crew Guy In Canada who shared a great video over at Television Fashion that features J.Crew's Jenna Lyons. To watch it, click HERE.
There are some nice shots of the models wearing the Fall 2012 collection. Mickey Drexler makes a quick appearance too!
Although, the part I was really interested in they barely feature: when she was in the textile section and chit-chatting with Frank Muytjens. All that behind-the-scenes stuff looked fascinating- I want to sit in! ;)
What are your thoughts on the video? Do you like the outfits Jenna was wearing in the video? Do you agree with the comments she made?
Err...apparently "effortless" now means don't bother to put on a bra?
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I noticed that right away in the still photo above. I guess if you can go braless in a sweater to work, a low-cut suiting dress is nothing to fret over.
Delete...and I'm guessing that is not one of the "itchy" sweater blends.
DeleteROFL! Good one!
DeleteI saw that right away too, bleccch. Nothx. Mine are nearly nonexistent and I still cover my business for the sake of humanity. This goes double when said business has lots its, errr, pep. I mean come on. Who does that? And in the public eye at that!
Delete"I still cover my business for the sake of humanity" just made me burst out laughing!
DeleteI saw this segment a couple of weekends ago on Fashion Television and loved some of the pieces. I didn't even notice it at the time, but yes, Cass, it seems she is not wearing one.
ReplyDeleteI loved this segment, especially since it is hosted by our canadian queen of style, Jeannie Bekker! I love her! Interestingly, when the camera was panning over the clothes, there were things there I really loved, much more so than when I saw them in still photos... There are a couple of things which are now on my wishlist...
ReplyDeleteShe goes braless all the time.
ReplyDeleteWhy,oh why does she wear those awful glasses? They only look good on 1 or 2 people- they almost look costumey- they are not suited to her face. And her hair...she is so cool looking and so naturally pretty but I swear she doesn't take that one last look in the mirror before she leaves the house. Also, the braless look only works on teenagers!!
ReplyDeleteI love the smiling models!
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, haven't gone braless since age 18... and that was with a built in shelf bra! Not ok for adults!
Like the colours and the sequins are beautiful. The Manolos are to die for, but won't be paying the price. Eagerly awaiting a store opening here in London rumoured for Regent Street.
ReplyDeleteAgree with all of you, her glasses and lack of undergarments do NOTHING for her.
Don't mind the braless look. If u are small busted whatever is most comfortable... I am not going to judge. Also there are some great health and medical books about going braless being better for you. However I have to say there are many alternatives that she could wear instead of a bra that might look better especially because of the field she work in as suggested by many of the books I have read.
ReplyDeleteOT - I know someone was looking for the Darlington Satchel and there is one on ebay right now, the listing is HERE.
ReplyDeleteNot my auction or anyone I know, just passing it on for whoever was looking. HTH
uugg....is J. Crew going to start trending the no bra look? Really...grown women must wear undergarments regardless of how small (or large) your breasts are. 'nuff said.
ReplyDeleteOnly Jenna's house could sell above the asking price in this market! Interesting little piece ...
ReplyDeleteHad all this braless talk not been going on, I wouldn't have noticed Courtney Crangi's visible bare breasts through her sheer top in the post Elaine shared...ickh, and in front of the children.
DeleteI saw some things that look wishlist worthy. It looked like the pattern from Jenna's pants was copied in a sweater, pretty.
ReplyDeleteI really kinda dislike the part where she said she has spent years trying to change the way J.Crew looked in the past. It's sad that they don't realize that many of us really liked, no loved, the old J.Crew preppy version. Jenna's whole physical look as well as that of the models is so androgynous and not really a look that many of us ever aim to pull off. I guess it's selling but I miss their old stylings and pricepoints of 10-15 years ago.
ReplyDeleteThough I do enjoy shopping at J. Crew, from what little I know about Jenna, she is not a style or life icon for me. I know she's the "face" of the brand, but it's not a likeable face, in my opinion. I wish she'd stay behind-the-scenes!
ReplyDeleteJenna. She's got a knack for putting stuff together. However, she should wear a bra. And remember last spring when her son was painting his nails pink? Pretty sure the Crewcuts boys don't have painted nails.
ReplyDeleteAside, I want that green and blue fair isle sweater and sequined skirts. Bad.
That was an interesting video - I saw some clothes that were really nice - at one point I think I saw an orange/red jacket/coat (need to look again) that I loved.
ReplyDeleteThere was also a (snakeskin?) long pencil skirt I loved. I'm so sad the longer pencil skirts in the cool prints didn't come in a size 14 this spring. I hope they change that for the fall.
As for Jenna, well, I'm one of those folks that rather loves her. Yeah, no bra, but she's one of those fashion creative types, so I'm sure it is all fine. She is a bit quirky, and I like that about her.
@carmencatalina - I love the snakeskin skirt, too! I hope its not real snakeskin and just a pattern borrowed from the snake, or else that would cost an arm and a leg. :)
ReplyDeleteokay..here's my take on the video and everyone else criticism on Jenna.
Was the fall fashion show all about Jenna not wearing a bra? Oh right, its about the models showcasing the FALL 2012 Collection (sarcasm). Bra or no bra, she's small chested, does it really matter to keep her chi-chis in place? Instead of criticizing let's...celebrate J.Crew's successes!
I give J.Crew props for being the brand it is today; if it wasn't for Jenna's quirky personality and style, the people that run the company and Drexler's business ethics, the brand would be stagnant, not growing, just selling critter pants and roll neck sweaters in the 21st century. To stay afloat in the fashion industry you have to stay relevant. While I've been a customer for more than 10 years, I love them now more than ever, and they just keep getting better and better.
um, whose business ethics?
ReplyDeleteI think the fact that Jenna goes braless is noteworthy. Since her face, body & style have become the backbone of J Crew, it's interesting to pay attention to how she carries herself. The gawky teen that's often mentioned in the regurgitated articles is everpresent. I see how her designs are specific to her body type and probably indicative of how she views her body. If her chest is hanging down and cleavage or shape is not created w/a bra, it's no wonder the work dresses are so low cut. Among other issues... I love J Crew, too, and hope they remain successful. At the same time, it's good to analyze the hymns and not just sing praises.
ReplyDeleteIt is one thing to go braless but another if you are letting everything show through the sweater. Mickey Mouse could be designing the clothes for all I care, if I like something and if it fits my lifestyle I will buy it, and I have been liking what i have been seeing for Spring, nice bold colors compared to the drab muted tones from past seasons.
ReplyDeleteJenna is not a pretty woman but, rather than trying to minimize her flaws, she seems to revel in looking as awkward and gawky as possible. I'm surprised by how many people insist they like her look. IMO she looks like a "before" on WNTW. :P
