  1. I would if there was free shipping. There are a few FP tees from the last big rollout I would like to pick up, but the shipping negates the discount. Boo.

  2. "We're obsessed with our tees! We use an especially cheap cotton that develops aerating holes as soon as the first time we half-tuck/half-untuck them into our sequined pencil skirts."

  3. Can anyone recommend a good J. Crew tank top? I love their vintage cotton tees. I'd love something I could wear a bra under without showing too much bra strap.

    Thanks!

  4. I purchased the chino shorts online in neon pink, casablanca blue and grappa punch but just plan to keep one. Which color do people like best?

  5. Without free shipping or a low minimum like say $50, this is a joke to me. Too bad because I love the bandana tee I have and want it in another color.

Autumn, I’m with you on the tank tops. I’m digging some of the new tank tops right now, but am having a hard time finding any that fit without showing major bra. Ugh. I do not want to live in a strapless bra this summer. Sorry..that may have been tmi. :)

  6. I loved the print of the bandana tee as well.

Autumn, I have a photo of the Sunlit Sequin Tank on my blog if you are interested. It is very pretty.

  7. Ditto on no free shipping making this promo a waste.

Additionally I find it annoying that the signature leggings appear to have vanished from the website. I see many other leggings on promo, but the signature leggings are not included (and they are not a third party brand either). I called customer service and inquired, but was told they are not included. Ah well, c'est la vie to J Crew promos.

  8. Last night I mended two holes in the armpits of a $50 striped shirt I've worn twice and washed once.

  9. I always forget. Can I use my educator discount on items that are on promo (if I go into the store)?

  10. Darn, was going to buy the polka dot Ruffle Henley yesterday at FP to get over the free shipping threshold, but now it's long gone. Oh well :(

  11. I wish there was free shipping, too. Glad to see some exclusions were put in the fine print this time unlike other promos.

  12. Just headed to my B&M to look for some tanks, only to find that the promo is online only - was so hoping to avoid shipping costs which always negate the incentive! Should've read the fine print first. But anyway, this was my first time in the Madison Ave store since they renovated, thanks to my self-imposed shopping ban, and true to form (and why I had to impose the ban in the first place), I did not walk out empty handed. Immediately spotted the cutest sweater which does not appear to be online yet. I think it's the Tippi sweater and it's in a light beige color with bright red (like the decadent red) cherries printed all over it. I don't have nearly enough spring/summer clothes as I'm much more of a fall/winter gal, so I couldn't resist, even at full price. At least it's 100% merino wool which, based on past experience, will hold up a while so I'm using that as my rationalization. All in all not a wasted trip, although I do still need to order tanks and I don't think I want $100 worth in order to get free shipping...

Given the number of times I've passed up placing an order because of the $8.95 shipping, I've got to think the company is ultimately losing money by not offering free shipping on smaller purchases. Yes, shipping costs are expensive in general, but if customers are filling up their carts and then closing their browsers without purchasing, often after entering a promo code at checkout and seeing it canceled out by the shipping costs, who's really winning in the end? Not JC and not the customer.

I haven't been posting in such a while, I swear I didn't come here today to complain! That shipping issue just irks me. Love my new sweater though :)

  13. Eeek I just realized the $100 free shipping min ended yesterday! $175 is way too high a minimum to save a few pennies on tanks and tees (much as I want them!) I might honestly have been better off grabbing them at the store sans discount.

Btw has anyone seen the ruffle henley in the polka dot print IRL? Looks super cute online but it's one of those style/print/color combos that's really hard to get a good impression of from a picture given the loss of details.

  14. I live close to a store so I usually order multiple things to get to the limit and return what I don't need so I get the discount...

  15. I know how easy it is to grip about J.Crew's rather high shipping costs and high minimum purchase for free shipping. But there's a reason why some companies with very low shipping costs (i.e. Amazon.com, Gap Inc, Abercombie and Fitch, Wal-Mart) are wrought with lawsuits accusing them of "warehouse wage slaves." You have to ask yourself: how can a company (i.e Amazon) offer low/free shipping and still have a profitable margin? It's because they usually cut corners on wages for warehouse workers or worse yet - cut corners on working conditions for these workers (we're talking long hours, terrible pay, and terrible working environment without any benefits or security).

If you read on J.Crew website on their social responsibility - you would see that they complied with the Code of Vendor Conducts - which mean fair wages and working conditions under U.S laws - which is not cheap in terms of cutting down costs for consumers. http://www.jcrew.com/flatpages/social_responsibility.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302048661

So yeah - I hate to pay so much for shipping, but when I'm already paying $60/t-shirt, but it makes me feel OK to know that I'm paying a little bit more for shipping with a company that don’t buy from suppliers that use child labor. They don’t patronize companies that discriminate. Their suppliers must pay a fair wage, and adhere to environmental standards.

Well... either that or I'll just go to the B&M and save on shipping costs. Ha. Most of the time, they have better deals.

  16. My thinking w/those free ship offers is that usually they jack up the price somewhere else to make up for the free shipping discount. And I mean retailers in general, nothing specific to JC.

  17. I dunno, I think if Nordstrom can figure out free shipping with NO minimum, JCrew can figure it out too. At least drop it to $100!

My biggest problem with the shipping is on items that are NOT available in store. For some reason everyone wants to include the petites but not the tall kids... why should I be punished for needing longer sleeves and inseams? I am sure there are some sort of statistics on how Tall sales aren't high enough, but until the magical day they put them in stores how about offering some free shipping on those items?

Anywho, I have found that I like the factory tees just fine so I think I will stick to those instead :) Will keep stalking the pop ups though... anyone else notice the Shirts and Tops section has stayed pretty low?

  18. I was wondering how sheer the vintage cotton tees are. I usually buy the perfect fit tees, but was considering the vintage cotton and maybe the Linen dolman. Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

  19. Maryeb, I have the v-neck vintage tees and they are kind of sheer. I wear a perfect fit tank underneath, mostly because the v is low on me & also due to the sheerness of the tee. HTH.

  20. I like both the vintage and tissue tees. They have held up well for me, no holes. They are kinda thin, I only wear them for layering under other knits and shirts and I like that they are lightweight. Going to try the vintage tank out I think.

  21. @Dara,

I bought the polka dot Ruffle Henley last week, at full price... in Canada!!! That's how cute I thought it was! But, I will be returning it fast.

First of all, I was surprised to see the dots are not white, but more ivory/beige. Second, the fit is really odd. I'm 5 feet tall with a short torso and yet, the XSmall barely covers my belly. The sleeves looked more like a long sleeve on me than a bracelet sleeve, and the fabric is also quite stiff which makes it very uncomfortable. I don't even think I would try a size bigger because then shoulders and sleeves would be too big.

I understand now why it kept disappearing and popping up online. I guess there has been a lot of returns.

    Hope this helps.

  22. Sunflower, thanks for the review! Sounds like we're about the same size although I probably have a slightly longer torso so it would be a crop top on me! Too bad because it looks so adorable.

On a side note, I'm wearing my Tippi sweater today in the cherry print and I'm in love! I will definitely be buying more of these Tippi sweaters, the fit is fantastic and I love the material and weight. C'mon, full price promo!!! I've got a cart full of stuff waiting for you...
