JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I would love to know how y'all are wearing your metallic herringbone schoolboy blazers; I have it in aged driftwood. I've tried a couple of striped tops from BR under it--close, but no cigar... Thanks!

  2. wendy, i just happen to be wearing that jacket today. i am wearing it with a white graphic tee, brown leather pants (it's still cold here in NE), black leather boots, and tons of bracelets!!! i think the jacket would look good with a striped tee as long as you paired it with a long jean skirt or cropped pants and fun heels...

  3. Off topic but...

JC extended the 30% off FS thru today (it was supposed to end last night). And they have added more items. This morning I bought the hi-tops that one of my daughters wanted (the same ones I tried to purchase a week ago that mysteriously "sold out" as I was in the last step of paying for them).

I'd be buying women's stuff as well but the combo of FS and expensive shipping is a no-go for me.

  4. Wendy, not sure if the website pic is close, but that colour looks close to the grey family. I would try a striped white/yellow tee or solids in those colours.

  5. Ok. I returned my Lula glitter flats back because they were too big and I know I would need an 8.5. I am still on the fence about them. The hubby thought they were too flashy. I found them to be cute and comfy but I am just not sure what I would rock them with. What do you ladies wear them with? FYI, I am speaking of the gold ones. TIA!

    1. Nicole, I can't remember exactly what I've worn mine with, but I love seeing the little flash of sequins. It gives me a lift and I don't think they're over the top. I have the gold 7 the red. Try a striped tee, navy blazer, jeans and the gold shoes. Easy and cute. Omitting the blazer would be cute as well. I also think the good ole tee or top/cardi/pants or skirt combo works, too. I like to think of the shoes as a punch of color. An unexpected surprised. I don't revolve the outfit around the shoes. I just add them if they seem to contrast, yet blend in.

  7. OT Dropped by B&M yesterday briefly and saw the small rollout had all the apple prints-cardigan, shorts, mini skirt, the controversial purple or red dress, eyelet skirts, few other dresses.

  8. megan: a gray t-shirt and a neutral shoe would be nice. with a bright color you should keep the rest simple. even a denim shirt and white converse sneakers. or dress it up with a white blouse and some leopard print shoes....

    1. laughter through tears - I have the retail version and tried it on today with a black v-neck pullover sweater, J Crew bootcut cords in the honey brown colors and nude shoes. I liked the look but decided to wear something w/brighter colors. Another way to 'ground' the top is to open the first couple of buttons open and put a black cami on under. That will add some weight to the pattern and it will look fierce, but feel less wild ;)

      rrrwwwaaaar lol

  10. Any thoughts on what to wear the bright green Hutton trousers with? Can I wear them to work. Tried them on today and fell in love, but not sure where to wear them!

    1. If you want to go a bit bold with more color, I think purple would be a nice complement. I just posted some blog pics with a green blazer and the purple Minnies and like the outcome of those colors together.
Light gray, navy, yellow and a soft pink are all good colors besides the standard black and white.
