This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)
I have posted reviews of some not (yet) online items HERE. Also, if you haven't seen it, check out my previous fitting room reviews from Friday and yesterday.

ReplyDeleteHi Everyone! I have reviews of the J. Crew Raindrop Lace Tee, a bright green Linen Boy Shirt, and a Plaid Boy Shirt on my blog HERE
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
I've been trying on a bunch of the longer pencil skirts. Here's my list in order of preference:
ReplyDelete1) Abstract leopard: love the texture of the fabric, love the length, this skirt is unbelievably flattering. Not a huge fan of the pattern at all, but inexplicably didn't want to take it off once I saw it on.
2) Sovereign paisley: also unbelievably flattering. In retrospect , my dressing room photos of this one look even more flattering than #1 but in person I liked #1 a little better. The neon green was a no go though and this is the sort of skirt that really can't be a workhorse in your closet since the pattern is so distinct.
3) Super 120s telegraph skirt in warm sienna: apparently 25" is my ideal pencil skirt length - the 27" here is just too long. I would have it hemmed or exchange for a petite, but I just didn't find this skirt as flattering as the other two. Fit was a little bit tighter (just slightly, not worth sizing up) and I'm not a fan of back pockets on my pencil skirts. This is a much more versatile skirt than #1 or #2, but just not as flattering (I think the thinner fabric does less to hug in the flaws.
For reference, I'm 5'6" about 130 right now, pear shaped, and tried size 4 in all. All three hit below the knee.
I thought the abstract leopard skirt was on sale? Can anyone confirm this?
ReplyDeleteHas anyone reviewed the Factory Polka Dot skirt? It looks like it is sold out online but I'm hoping that it will come back.
ReplyDeleteTeriLynn13: I think that skirt is a reissue of the same one from last year. I tried it on here. I love this skirt, although I haven't reached for it as much as I thought I would!
Deletepathos - the abstract leopard skirt wasn't on sale at any of the 3 J Crews I went to this weekend
ReplyDeletesub!
ReplyDeleteRecently picked up the Marlow Hobo in Henna during a 30% FS...Rose has a nice review, but really couldn't find much more about it online.
ReplyDeleteWell...two thumbs up! I was afraid it was going to be HUGE based on the weird puffy product shots, but unstuffed this bag is slouchy and soft and not at all bulky. It holds my regular items as well as my iPad, a water, and kid snack items. It's been on a school field trip, a girls weekend. and many trips to the baseball field. Even w/o the 30% it's currently a great price, IMO.
I was really interested in the Merriweather blazer and tried it on. It did not look good on me at all. I felt like I looked dowdy and shapeless. Definite pass.
ReplyDeleteI was just about to say that I love the Merriweather blazer. I altered it a little though---I took off the useless epaulets, removed the row of useless buttons, and changed the other buttons from the brass to a tonal navy blue. I think it looks much more modern and sleek now.
ReplyDeleteI went to all that trouble because I liked the other aspects of it so much. I love the thick cotton which is not fussy and layer-able, the big stripes, the cropped length with the 3/4 sleeves, and the way it hangs when its open.
It is definitely a more boxy fit than the J Crew Schoolboy blazers for example, but I think the cut works well with the stripes.
Has anyone reviewed this factory cotton pencil skirt? Being obsessed with longer pencil skirts, the 23 1/2" sounds promising.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Pathos, I didn't see this new skirt on sale. I will have photos of this skirt in my post tomorrow, hopefully. The regular leopard print pencil skirt is on sale on the website.
ReplyDeleteI finally scooped up the Suckered Tartan Perfect Shirt (woo HOO for persistence!) and I must say it was worth waiting for. I adore it. The fabric is so lightweight and breezy and the fit is very flattering. It will be perfect for 3/4 of the year down here in NC, and I can't wait to throw it on this spring and summer!
ReplyDeleteI also took a chance on the Super 120s Paley pant and I like them very much. They seem to fit my body type just right (hippy but with a smallish waist) and will be a lovely alternative to traditional suiting pants in the spring and fall.
I ordered the Talitha blouse in Royal Paisley even though the thought of wearing an all-rayon blouse makes me vomitous. I was pleasantly surprised at -- they've done something to the fabric, given it a slightly nubby texture so it doesn't have that telltale fake-fabric sheen. It's almost like silk crepe or the feeling of wool crepe but without the weight.
Wish I'd gotten an 8 as the 10 is just a bit big through the bust for me (anyone have an 8 and want to trade?), but I'm looking forward to wearing it to work soon!
Tippi sweaters are a new love for me. Love the proportions and the flattering fit and neckline. I snagged a Heather Hyacinth (purple) one during the last sale and it's a gorgeous color! I took a chance on a Large and it's just a wee bit looser than my others, which are Mediums.
I have found that the boater tees run big and long, borderline tunic-length (I am 5'7"). I have 2 of them and had to size down to a Small. The fabric has some heft to it, similar to the St. James Meridian shirts of yore but not as stiff or heavy. More like a thicker version of a Painter tee.
Last but not least, the three-quarter sleeve boatneck striped tee in Bermuda Sand Cerise runs small, IMO. I can never have too many striped boatneck tops! Since it looks a lot like the Boater tee, right down to the cute buttons at the cuffs, I ordered a Small. FAIL. Waaaaay too tight, esp. in the arms. Reordered a Medium and it's still uncomfortably fitted. Hoping after I lose my winter fluff it will fit great for spring/summer!
HTHs someone. Sorry so long.
TerriLynn13, do you mean this skirt? The crewlet I visited still had several in stock.
ReplyDeleteIt was actually this one http://www.jcrew.com/womens_factory_category/skirts/PRDOVR~23904/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20~15~~205+17+4294966713~15~~~~~~~/23904.jsp I hadn't noticed it before this weekend but it appears to be sold out.
DeleteQuick review on Jenna's Cardigan -- one of my faves -- here.
ReplyDeleteSydney Patent Sandals: Really beautiful but too high for me. I could hardly walk in them. They were very comfortable for a shoe that high, though. I tried my regular size 8. I have very wide feet and this sandal still looked and felt good.
ReplyDeleteLucca Suede Sandals: Very comfortable and flattering in the Apricot Mist color. Heel height looks good and is very walkable. My regular size 8 fit perfectly and didn't look silly on my wide feet.
Quorra Ballet Flats: Fits like other J Crew ballet flats. I'm between my regular size and a half size down, and would probably go with the half size down to allow for some stretching.
Sperry Top Sider: I sized down half a size and might have been able to size down a whole size (didn't try the next size down). Really cute, slip-on style. Might be too hot for summer, but seems perfect for spring.
Painter Zip Tee in Stripe (62114): Cute basic tee with a bit of a twist (if you're not striped out, which I'm not), but I found it to run quite small through the shoulders/arms/bust. I am usually an XS in knits and tees, occasionally an XXS if something runs big, and I sized up to a Small in this (and the Medium wasn't even that big, just found the neckline a bit wide).
ReplyDeleteSchoolboy Blazer in Tipped Linen: I felt as though this ran a tiny bit bigger than the wool schoolboys - a 0 fit fairly well and I am always a 2 in blazers and coats. I wasn't crazy about the fabric though, it was extremely thin and looked a bit rumpled, but maybe a good steam would help?
Saint James Minquiers III Tee: The Toronto store is carrying these, and I had always planned to order one so decided to save myself the trouble and buy it in-store. Lucky for me that I was able to try it on first - I loathed it on me. I tried the XS and it was incredibly loose and messy looking through the shoulders and bust, and the sleeves were so wide all the way down that I could have fit two of my forearms in each. Just really not sleek or attractive at all on me. Too bad - the hunt for the perfect black and white striped 3/4 sleeve boatneck tee continues.
Marielle Dress in Superfine Cotton: Love! Ordered this in the byzantine blue and it is a lovely colour - a very bold, bright blue. It fit TTS in my usual suiting dress size (one size down from what I took in the Teddie and the Lillian Dress in Gardenshade Floral). The waist hits me at the right spot, though I do wish the dress were slightly longer overall - it comes to a few inches above my knee (I am 5'9), but it's still appropriate for my more casual office. Fabric is nice and smooth with a decent amount of stretch and overall the dress appears to be well made.
I picked up the gold Sperrys during the sale + promo and just got them today. Love them! Super comfortable and true to my normal 8.5 size.
ReplyDeletePosted a review of the Jcrew Talitha blouse on my blog megancrewreviews.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
I noticed that in the JCAs reviews of the Merriweather jacket, nobody was wearing with the lapels folded down as is pictured on the online model. I gotta say I think this is the way that is most flattering on me. Just sayin' ...
ReplyDeleteI think the changes Meredith made to the Merriweather probably make it much cuter. I'm just not up for all the alterations needed. Also, maybe I should've tried a size down. I can be between a Large and Medium on top and tried the Large. I think it probably would've been too tight in the arms, but might have looked better on me through the torso. In any event, for me, it's a no go.
ReplyDeleteI did get the Valentina patent leather pumps and they are divine! I'm now firmly in the Valentina camp and will hope to get more colors in the future.
I love the leather valentinas too in bronze rust.. They're the first pair of pointy shoes that actually don't hurt my feet right out of the box and don't make my feet look freakishly long either. Wish JC shoes didn't cost so much though. Even on sale w discount it still hurt the wallet. Would love to get more colors.
ReplyDeleteButton front skirt in glazed pecan: Fits just like the Flair but has pockets. Linen/lyocell w acetate lining. Fabric has a sheen to it. Color is nice. I ordered both colors. I ride my bike to work and think these will be ideal for spring & summer. Wasn't expecting it to be lined. Might look dowdy on shorties or w flats but I'm average height and need to detract attention from my hips. I love my flair skirts so hope to love these too.
ReplyDeleteReceived an order today from the last 30% promo:
ReplyDeleteNewsstand Tote in Leopard Suede: Nice looking bag and a great size for the office during the week. The color is much nicer than on-screen - more brown than orange. I'm a little disappointed in the thickness of the suede though - it's rather thin. I'm wondering how long this bag will last. For the final sale price less the 30% though, I think it was worth it. Full price? Hah! Which is frankly how I'm feeling about most J. Crew items lately...
Trouser Jean in Classic Rinse: These are nice-fitting trouser jeans with a crisp crease down the front and a perfect length for loafers. The pockets however are in exactly the wrong place and the waistband is inexplicably thick. Too bad - b/c the color is lovely and the rear view is nice. They're going back.
Stretch Perfect Shirt in Casablanca Blue: Nice fitting button down that actually buttons over my bust and doesn't look boxy. The buttons however all need to be re-sewn. They were literally popping off as I was unbuttoning the shirt from the package. For the price, I expect the buttons to be sewn on properly. I like the color so I'm keeping this one, but I'll be looking for a new source for my button downs - there's no excuse for the poor attention to detail in these pricey J. Crew products.
Hi folks,
ReplyDeleteNow that the schoolboy in morse code jacquard has gone down in price so dramatically, am thinking of biting. Has anyone seen this IRL? Any thoughts?
Ladies, the Jaspe pullover is already on sale ($29.99) as well as the mini orbit necklace ($29.99) and the pintuck lace front henley ($49.99). I can't believe how fast the markdowns are coming lately. Not complaining!

ReplyDeletehere.
Caitlin, I ordered the St. James Minquiers III tee (also in the black & ecru) and what a disappointment! With taxes and shipping, it was over $100 but what a terrible fit - the website description says nothing about the shirt being cropped and boxy, or that the sleeves are wide, and dolman like. I sent it back right away. I am also hunting the perfect black & white striped tee!!
ReplyDeleteLouise and Caitlin I had the same experience. I had high hopes for that tee and I would have bought multiples if the fit hadn't been so hideous. I took a picture but I'm not planning to post on it until the weekend.
ReplyDeleteMostly because I just posted a long review of the Tillary Tote in both colors on my blog today!
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who dislikes the fit of the Minquiers III tee! It was really awful, one of the least flattering items I've ever tried on. Too bad, I was really looking forward to that one!
ReplyDeleteOT - anyone check out today's new arrivals on the website? I'm bummed the No. 2 pencil in feather paisley doesn't come in the 25" length.
ReplyDeleteAlso intrigued by the invitation clutch in cork, the driftwood dress (though it looks really low cut), and the stretch perfect shirt in end on end.
I ordered the Thomas Mason check perfect shirt in both purple and turquoise in my usual size 0. The colors are fantastic and so pretty, but the fabric is not what I expected. It's is very rough, even after a couple of washings. The fabric borders on itchy for me. A detail I didn't notice on the website are the cuffs. The cuffs are extra long and fold back on themselves. The cuffs aren't bad, just not what I'm used to on my other perfect shirts. Overall I really like the shirts, but I hope they soften up with time.
