JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. This is more of a "what should I wear" rather than a "how should I wear it," but does anyone have any suggestions on which J. Crew dress/dresses might be most appropriate for me to wear to attend an evening wedding in Laguna Beach, CA, during Memorial Day Weekend? Strapless? Something more formal? I am 5'2", and I usually wear a size 2 or 4 in dresses (XS in knit dresses). Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions you might have!

  2. Off-topic, but website news!

1st -- FREESHIP code for free shipping on any order!

2nd -- website design has changed. The font is new, I think, and the drop-down menus are bigger.

3rd -- there's a "Pin It" button for Pinstest. (Alas, Gigi, no wishlist yet. We can hope....)

    1. there should be lots of pop-backs tomorrow. I see lace and polka dot blouson dresses, and I got a thin enameled bangle for $15.

    2. Huge update to the sale section. Nothing really grabbing my attention w/ the new items.

  3. Back on topic.... Help! What do I wear for tops with flirty pleated or A-line spring skirts? Button-downs are too stuffy for casual wear, plain T-shirts make my petite self look too juvenile.

T-shirts also look funny because if I tuck them in, I look dorky. If I leave them untucked, then they end at my hip and ruin the A-line of the skirt.

    1. How about a Natasha top, tucked in? It's casual enough, even with those buttons.

    2. Thanks, Rose. That's a good idea. I'm a little wary of investing in more Natashas though, since it's sticky here in the summer and whatever I wear will need to be cleaned/washed after 1 wear.

    3. I successfully washed my polka dot Natasha and it did not even need steaming/ironing right out of the washer. A miracle, really. Still a pain but they do wash up nice I think!

    4. Oh, that's great news, JCrewJD! The dot Natasha is one of the few things I've ever paid full price for, and I wasn't about to start messing around with handwashing chiffon. You've convinced me to give it a try.

    5. Good!!! I hope it works out. I machine washed on delicate in a wash bag and it was fine so I imagine handwashing would be even more foolproof!

  5. Was just trying to get the 20% off knits promo and was able to get it and also the new FREESHIP promo: free shipping no minimum. Yippee! Also, new arrivals and what appears to be another site redesign. New dropdown menus, etc...

As JulieStyles said no catalog yet...but I have noticed they are using google catalogs for their march catalog now. Madewell is too. Not sure I like it so much. Can't they find anything nicer??

  6. In past posts, some asked about how to wear the neon azalea pencil skirt. I wore it this week with a motorcycle jacket, see here.

  7. Maybe a little OT, but I've found that that my navy blue boy shirt in striped crepe de chine goes with practically every skirt and pant in my closet. Should've bought two.

    1. @D*ska, totally agree! Love that navy striped silk boy shirt...I'll be wearing it for years to come (assuming the fabric holds up. Wish they'd do more silk boy shirts in addition to the Blythe. I prefer the fit of the silk boy shirt.

  8. Free ship no minimum! Grrreat! That's the code I've been holding out for now for months!

  9. And the code disappoints...as nothing is in stock when I click on it....

    1. Happened to me too. Today they didn't take down any of the out of stock items, which was a little annoying.

  10. I really like this "tie" that's on sale on the website right now but how does it look on? I don't really understand how you wear it. Can someone explain or does anyone have this item?
