Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

    LOFT has actually had some cute things this spring. I don't like the amount of polyester they use in their camis, but I stay away from them and gravitated toward some of the cotton tanks (white and yellow striped), chambray tops and this really cute black-and-white lace dotted skirt that is similar to the Anthropologie one from last year (Scalloped Dots?). 40% off everything is a nice incentive, too.

    Finally dug into the Talbot's mother-daughter catalog last night and thought the theme was so clever! Not only does it celebrates Mother's Day but also showcases that both generations can wear their clothes with ease - despite recent customer complaints that Tal is becoming too trendy and young for their core customers.

    The floral camp shirt, cascading flower dress, and the plaid jacket minded me of JC's prints, too.

    Pansy, ITA about the new Talbots catalog. I loved the concept of celebrating moms/daughters, and the devotion of nearly half the catalog pages to featuring real, multi-generational women wearing their clothes. My catalog also came with a 20% off whole order and free shipping offer. Very nice.

    I do find a few things I like at Talbots. But overall, despite my grousing (Alexis, dead-on about the jackets, I wore my Fiona yesterday!), J. Crew's "edit" is still so much more appealing to me.

    I have noticed quite a few J.Crew lookalikes at ATL. I don't particuarly love their quality, but for the right price they might be nice replacements.

    Off the top of my head I'm thinking of a blazer that looks like the sandstone herringbone schoolboy blazer (but ATL's version is not schoolboy, it is longer). There is also a short sleeve tee with lace insets like one from earlier this spring.

    I too was very impressed with the mother/daughter concept and layout of the new Talbots catalog. Very fun to read while waiting for my daughter at the bus stop:)

    I cannot wait to get to a store and try somethings on. I did notice several things I liked were online only so will wait for a free shipping code that I know will eventually come;)

    I like some of the offerings from Land's End Canvas. Their promo events and the Ebates rebate are very generous. I ordered the chambray shirt dress and a belt during the Friends & Family event last weekend (free shipping, no minimum) - can't wait to see how they work out.

    Does anyone have any experience with L.L. Bean's Signature line? How do you like it? I got their catalog in the mail yesterday and they have a couple of cute dresses in it. They also have free shipping!

    Hi PatmosJD - I can't speak to LLBean Signature's clothes, but their shoes are supremely comfortable. I'm wearing the Leather Brogue Shoes that have probably a 3.75" heel with a 0.5" platform and they are very well made - and leaps and bounds more comfortable than any JC heels I own! I tried some of the clothing but you really gotta order some different sizes for the clothes to get a feel for fit, and I just wasn't as interested in doing all that ordering and returning. Seems like quality is pretty much the same as everywhere else according to their online reviews, but they will take anything back at any time for any reason.

    Don't know all of the details but walked by gap yesterday and they had sale racks marked $5,$10,$15,$20. Did not pop in but did notice a dress on the $20 rack that is full price online still at $79! May be worth checking out!

    I've purchased the poplin dress and the sateen crops from LLBean Signature. Love them both! I took my usual JCrew vanity size. Just wore the dress yesterday (I got it in the rose color) and felt lovely and springy all day. I highly recommend.
