They were asked to put their own spin on five looks from J.Crew's Weekend collection. To check it out, click HERE.
Close KnitI love it when J.Crew shows the same piece being styled differently. It is a great way to get inspired with my own wardrobe.
When we met up with Lauren Hutton and Mirabelle Marden on set, Lauren immediately cut to the chase: "I've known Mirabelle since she was in her mother's tummy- she's my unofficial adopted goddaughter."
Lauren's been besties with Mirabelle's mother for 46 years! Though we were assured Mirabelle's mom and her oldest pal, Lauren, still know how to have a good time.
"They giggle like school-girls when they're both incredibly strong, smart and beautiful women who've accomplished so much," Mirabelle said. No stranger to success herself, Mirabelle, an NYC-based photographer, only fairly recently hung up her hat as owner of acclaimed art gallery Rivington Arms to pursue other projects and to travel- something Lauren knows a great deal about. "I'm leaving in a few days for a dive off the silver bank with the hump-back whales and their babies," Lauren chimed in.
As for what it was like to be photographed together for J.Crew? "It was so relaxed because it was like playing with a young pal. It felt natural," Lauren said.
I also love how two women, from different generations, can totally rock the same piece. Each with their own confident style.
What are your thoughts on the Lauren & Mirabelle feature? Do you like how they styled the 5 easy pieces from the J.Crew Weekend Collection? Do you own any of the pieces? If so, please share your review! :)
I love whenever they feature Lauren Hutton!
ReplyDeleteI loved this feature! The styling is fresh but realistic for all ages and Lauren Hutton is an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the more sophisticated stylings, like the "Our Style Pile" outfit, or the previews. The Lauren and Mirabelle outfits just seem too.... nautical! Maybe they could add some sequins or something. :) Or a nice platform shoe.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous feature. I might not wear everything exactly as either Lauren or Mirabelle did, but I get ideas for my own clothes. I always enjoy seeing another person's take on an item. Lauren is amazing, so glad they continue to feature her.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoy seeing the versatility of the clothes which definitely makes me more inclined to purchase when I can see it styled fantastically in a variety of ways as well as age groups. I have kept favorite items of clothes since college since I'm the same size almost 10 years later. I like being able to see the same item on younger and older models.
ReplyDeleteAt its best, J Crew has a classic look with a fresh twist that works for all ages which is exactly what they are showing off with the feature on Lauren and Mirabelle.
ReplyDeleteMore like this please J Crew!
It is always inspiring to see Lauren Hutton advertising J Crew. I enjoyed the Week End Collection looks and would love to see more with Lauren and other fashion icons in the mix as well.
Love everything about it--the ages, how each would wear it but I usually don't have trouble dressing for weekends. I would really appreciate a similar story on how to dress when the seasons are changing or how to take something casual and dress it up or vice versa.
ReplyDeleteLove this! It's my favorite "feature" they have done in a long long time. My mom is a hot-mama like Lauren Hutton - similar in age, size, etc - and she is always struggling with what to wear that is "age appropriate." I'm going to send her this link ;) Heck, I'd be happy if I could pull off these looks like Lauren at my age! :)
ReplyDeletegem twin, good call! I don't have any problems doing casual. It would be nice to see more features like this in the future.
ReplyDeletegem twin, ITA. These photos are great, love Lauren, but don't they, um, state the obvious just a little? Trench over pants, comfy sweatpants, white tee --who would have thought that up?
ReplyDeletewellfedfred, you have an excellent point! I think you just put into words one of the things that bugs me about this particular styling feature. It's just too plain. And as you said, obvious, not just in the lack of creativity but also obvious that a woman of any age can wear a t-shirt, pants, trench, and shoes. The J Crew stylists are so brilliant, I would love to see a feature showing how women of different ages can wear some of the more elaborate garments. Like that cute eyelet Schoolboy blazer which they show with shorts on the web site, but shorts like that really aren't appropriate for a woman over the age of 40 or 50, so they could show what else would look good with that blazer.
ReplyDeleteI love to see the feature. Glad to see how their clothes work on different age groups. I love JCrew but I sometimes worry if I am too old to shop JCrew. I am 53. Now, at least for a while, I feel safe shopping there. It's almost like they have invited me.:)
ReplyDeleteI like the styling, and wow, to be Lauren Hutton's age, surgery free to boot, and still be prettier than the younger girl posing with you.
ReplyDeleteI'm so bored w/clothes right now I'll take all the styling advice they can dish out. More please! Can't wait for the May catalog.
I love this feature, but notice how it replaced the Weekend with Jenna post, which has been pegged as "controversial" in the news lately!
ReplyDeleteI put a link to Jon Stewart's discussion of the toenails on my blog. Devil made me do it.
ReplyDeletei have the "coastline striped pullover" shown in this feature, and love it. very comfy, cozy, stylish..very weekend:)
ReplyDeletewellfedfred, thank you so much for the link to that Daily Show clip. It's awesome. Best comments were about Glenn Beck's book. :) Hahaha. The link to your blog must have a typo in it, so I'm putting it in my post: wellfedfred's blog with link to Daily Show clip
ReplyDeleteI love this feature AND Lauren Hutton. I'm so glad they continue to feature her on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteGreat feature. Eileen Fisher does the same and I appreciate it. I'm closer to Lauren's age than Mirabelle's but wear the pixe pant! Whew! I'm not crazy. Looks smashing...
ReplyDeleteJ Crew refers to Hutton as a "muse", but I can't help but think that she's more like a bone tossed to us over-40 customers. On one hand I appreciate the use of an older model, but if it's only one and it's on rare occasion, it's hardly worth doing. I really don't mind that J Crew uses very young models any more than I mind that the models are 9 feet tall and weigh 80 pounds, even though I don't. :) It's all a fantasy, like art, it doesn't have to resemble reality.
