Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SPRING sale, or to see some new SPRING arrivals {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Must go make returns this weekend, haven't been to a store in so long!

  2. Why do the only offer free shipping on factory when they've sold out of the one thing I wanted? Oh, well

  3. Might stop in today... will check for more price discrepancies! ;)

  4. Are the perfect-fit boatneck tees running large? I'm not sure if I should size down.

  5. OT, but I need help making a decision, and there's no better crowd to ask!

Icon trench ... which to buy, short or long? And what can anyone tell me about the 'light khaki' color, which looks almost greenish/yellowish online, vs. 'pumice stone,' which looks more gray/griege?

FWIW, I'm about 5'7" and weigh 150-ish. I have dark brown hair and hazel eyes, and I'd describe my skin tone as neutral, neither warm nor cool. I live in North Carolina so I can't say I'll be wearing the jacket daily, but I'd really like to get one so I can keep it for years to come.

HALP. I just can't decide, and I keep going around and around on it, and I have been for months! Argh!

  6. I'm not sure if this is the best place for this question but I'll throw it out there: does anyone know if all of the colors of the jackie cardigan go on sale eventually? Or is it like their workhorse item that they only shuffle into sale/FS once the stock is dwindling? I'm trying to decide if I should hold out until they go on sale, or just buy a few because they'll never go on sale. Of course, all the colors I love aren't on sale (though I did pick up an on-sale olive green jackie that I'm wearing at work today!) Thanks!

  8. Kate, JMO, but trying to ride out a sale price for a Jackie can be dicey -- I've only seen it happen acroos the board in all the colors a few times. It's such a staple for so many people that it seems to make it to sale / super sale only sporadically.

I've never tried on a Crewlet Jackie -- anyone have any comparative info on those?

    ReplyDelete
  9. kate,

it seems like they never all go on sale at once. i've seen colors for sale in store that are full price online and vise versa. since it's something they always carry and always sells, i guess they are not compelled to do an all out promo on the jackie.

  10. I have one crewley jackie, and it seems more... cropped? also, the fabric content might be a little different (I'd have to double check).

    ReplyDelete
  11. On the Crewlet Jackies- I bought three last year and they are lighter weight, different fabric, cut wider and shorter. After one or two washes they look cheap. I am a strong believer in the retail Jackie (bought with a 20% off coupon, of course :) )

  12. Elaine, I vote for the long icon trench. The short one is cute, but the collar is different - pointier, I guess - and the belt seems kind of pointless to me on the short one. It's hard to describe, but the longer one to me is a more classic shape. I paid FP for mine (something I almost never do) and have worn it constantly for 2 years. It's really a 3-season piece for me. Your coloring sounds similar to mine, and I went with the pumice stone - I'd say "greige" is a good way to describe it. I waffled between that and the khaki for a while, but I like khaki pants and didn't want there to be too much khaki, you know? Good luck with whatever you decide - it is very much a classic piece!

As far as the Jackies go, I think that the Factory are 100% cotton, while the retail versions are cotton/nylon/spandex. The black, white, navy seem to never go on sale unless there's a global promo like SUNNY, but the other colors all seem to go on sale eventually. For a while, it seemed like none of them ever went to sale - but I think something about them changed because overall, they're not as awesome as they used to be.

  14. The perfect fit boatnecks seem to run pretty TTS, IMO. I have a few of them and have compared them to the PF ss tees and ls tees. They seem to run about the same. Hope this helps.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Elaine, I haven't seen the icon in pumice stone but it is definitively a grey-ish color in their cashmere. The light khaku is the classic trench color, like the color of Burberry's trenches (but a little bit darker maybe?) If you have another trench in the classic color I would go with the pumice stone, otherwise I would go with the light khaki (which also seems to go better with your coloring if you have hazel eyes). HTH!

  16. thanks, jbird! that is helpful. with spring/summer on the way, i need to stock up on some basic tees... the spearmint and smoky charcoal are calling to me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. @ Elaine - I have both short and long Icons. Short in the warm taupe and long factory version I got at end of season last year in a true khaki color. I haven't worn the long one yet although it is better made than the short. The fabric seems more substantial

Also in the triangle area. I'm 5'10" around 145 and the short one hits mid to low hip on me IIRC.

  18. Crewlet Jackies are 100% cotton which I hate, personally.

I am heading to a B&M because I have to return something to Sephora and I cannot go to the mall without going to J.Crew. Who can!?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Thinking about stopping by this weekend and picking up the tulip ruffle cami in dragonfly. My only hesitation is that it is so low cut at the chest area! Any ideas how to cover that area up? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

    ReplyDelete
  20. @silver_lining: I can't wait to hear more of those price discrepancies (which stop me from shopping this promo thus saving bucks till the next one, natch).

@Kate: if you're looking for the Jackies in "basic" colours like Navy, White, etc, now's the time to pick them up, like others have pointed out, do it whenver there's a cross-the-board or sweater promo. Only the seasonal or fashion colours ever make it to sale. I pick up my twin sets whenever they make it to the sale section, and use a free ship code. On a rare occassion I do manage to get the twin set on sale, with extra % off promo AND free ship. eg the recent LOVEIT promo. I had a field day and picked up 2 sets. HTH.

  21. Thanks for your Icon feedback, ladies! silver_lining, do you find that it's at least water-resistant? I won't be able to see one in person and I'm a big fabric freak, so I'm trying to make sure I know what I'm getting.

I just popped into my B&M (Raleigh) and they are not taking any extra % off sale prices (boo). Needed to return my bum order from a few weeks ago and walked out with a really nice pair of stretchy med-wash matchstick jeans for $29.99 and ... drumroll ... a super 120s shift dress for $49.99.

I can't find it anywhere online but it looks most like the 'Exchange Dress' -- item # 36049 -- but it's way more fitted through the waist. It rang up as the 'Adalie' dress on my receipt...?

Anyhoo, it must run enormous because it's a size 6 and it fit me like it was cut just for me. I'm not even sure why I tried it on, as I haven't worn a size 6 dress in years, but somehow it fit, and I couldn't stop looking at myself in the mirror, lol.

What's weird is that I didn't LOVE it love it. I liked the color, the fit was impeccable and the price was TDF (down from $188, I think) but something kept me from falling head over heels. It was too plain, maybe?

Still, I bought it and I'm sure I'll get $50 worth of wear out of it. Maybe it will be improved by baubles and bling! :P

  22. I have a lot of Jackies, probably half retail and half outlet. As the retail quality has been declining lately, I really can't see much difference between them.

The factory ones are always on some promo, too (and it's usually all colors). I picked up some of the more basic colors (white, black, navy) at the factory since those are the colors that never end up on sale at retail.

  23. In store prices:
    Bonfire cardi $20
    Saturday sweater $20
    Side zip sweater $20
    Amie dress (short) $20
Shawl collar cardi (? Gigi tried this on) $20
    Crosstown tees $10
Brown canvas jacket 2 sizes too big $20
    Letour dress $30

  24. Elaine, I second silver_lining's recommendation on the long Icon vs. the short, the long is a classic you will have for years to come. The only caveats are if you live where it's hot and very seldom rains and you want more of a fashion jacket or if you are almost always in a car and not walking much. The longer coat can be a bit fussy getting in the car but the short one is not really the best for serious rain if you are walking a lot.

I have the long icon in the pumice stone and black and have worn them constantly. I also bought the short in the warm taupe and have worn it more than I expected. All are water-resistant, the rain beads up and rolls off nicely. The tailored details, structured fit and substantial fabric makes these a real bargain IMO. A wise investment.

I bought mine with % off promos and free shipping but I did see them go on sale at the end of 2010 for excellent prices if you decide you'd like to pick up your second choice later. Do you have an online PS who could waive the shipping for you if you ask nicely? Might be worth a try.

  25. Elaine - was that the only 6?? :P

  26. I just want to comment about how annoyed I am. I wanted to order 3 bathing suits or so to try because my store doesn't carry swim so I can't tell what the colors look like and how things fit.

Is it normal for J.Crew to be almost completely sold out of Swimwear in early april!? This is really early for me to be buying swim stuff but I'm going on a trip in May so I wanted to make sure it fits.

Almost everything I liked was sold out in the size I think I need (XS), and I am not being picky. I was open to at least 4 colors and 4 or 5 of the different bottom styles! Combine that with the limited selection on the tops and it took me hours to come up with 3 suits that had a matching top and bottom.

Imagine my frustration when TWICE when I was in my cart about to check out the items were taken from me. One time was when I had already entered CC info.

    What is going on!?

    ReplyDelete
  27. JS: Sorry to hear about your swimsuit ordeal! In my experience, it is normal for the swimsuits to be limited in size or sold out at this point. A lot of purchases are made to wear for spring break and also by others who are fortunate enough to vacation in warm weather or *resort* locations during the early part of the year. It also seems that many of the suits are stocked in limited supply, so you may have to *shop early* to get the one you want or else wait and hope for it to popback eventually.

    ReplyDelete
  28. JS: I wanted to add that they will continue to restock the solid colors plus add new patterns as the rollouts continue, so there will be more online eventually. Plus they often restock when the *daily* website update occurs, so you may try checking then. There is supposed to be a larger rollout closer to May, so I imagine it will have more new swimsuits added (if you're able to wait until then).

    ReplyDelete
  29. FFM- thanks so much! That makes a lot of since and I am relieved to know that things will probably be restocked. I thought that they had just come out since they were all over my latest catalog, but it makes sense that people were ordering for vacations and spring break.

Sometimes I wish they would do less colors and more size options, it took me forever to find things and I can imagine someone that is less J.Crew obsessed would just give up.

Hopefully one of the combos I ordered will work, but between the 3 tops and 3 bottoms I'll at least be able to hone in on my size/color preferences and then stalk the website until what I want pops up.

I need at least 1 full swim suit by mid May, so as long as I can work something out by then I'll be good!

    ReplyDelete
  30. JS: You're welcome! I think you should be able to find a suit by mid May, maybe even on sale, too. They usually have a swimsuit promo toward the summer like they did a little while back, usually 20% off and free shipping, so that's a good time to pick one up. Also, you could have a We Will Find It search done if there is a particular suit you really want but can't find online. One of the stores that carries swim may have it in stock. :)

  31. Bonfire cardi for $20? *weeps* And if it's the dream open shawl-collar cardi in the gray color, size Med, I'm really going to cry. 8sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  32. @ Elaine, no it was the cotton shawl-collar cardigan that comes in navy and cream, # 39478 =)

    ReplyDelete
  33. The Costine sweater is also 19.99. So is the Lace Stripe Tissue Tee (# 36955).

The Oralie cardigan is $39.99, unless there is another metallic-looking cardigan out there, which is possible. They all look the same after a while.

  34. Just came back from the Chicago Mich Ave. store

Picked up all of these items on sale

Braided Wrap Belt (no longer online) - $29.99

    Minnie Pant - $39.99

    Costine V-Neck Sweater - $14.99

Stretch 3/4 Sleeve Pony Stripe $39.99

Darling Floral Franny Dress - $29.99

And then I asked the SA to use the SUNNY code and I took another 20% off all of these :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I got the Bonnie blazer (and I had to size up... it was way tight in my normal 6!), $29.99 in store.

I also got some matchstick jeans in a light wash, also $29.99. Very nice! They had tons of sale stuff. New stuff was on sale. It's out of control.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Would love to hear how the short-sleeve merino hoodie looks if anyone encounters it at a B&M! Looks like it runs big.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Elaine, I think we got the same matchsticks. They are stretchy and awesome... love! I just looked up the item number and apparently they are the matchstick jean in lived in wash... still a whopping $108 online. I am 5'10" and all they had was 28short... and wow, it is not even that short. Maybe 1.5 inches too short for me, whereas the regular length is usually 2 inches too short. So if you're 5'6" or under you could probably do the short as a normal length.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hi all! Just got back from vacation. Was very disappointed by my outing the JCrew Factory store in Orlando. IMO, there weren't very many deals to be had at all. And they would not honor the green 20% card. On top of that, I didn't see anything I loved. I did score a nice v-neck lemony-lime sweater for $20 in their % off section which was not very big. And I tried on a really cute summer dress in a pretty paisley pattern that looked terrible on me.

Also, wanted to comment on how much I love the Cadabra sweater which I got for like $15 in the store w/that % off card. Looks super cute w/leggings and a tank underneath. Nice summer lightweight feel.

    ReplyDelete
  39. It was the only one, Marymoo (sorry!) but it would probably be too small for you anyway -- I weigh amost what you do and I'm 3 inches shorter, lol.

GOOD GRAVY girls! With the price discrepancies! From store to store vs online ... I am floored.

I'll have to check my receipt, JCrewJD, but I bet you're right. I heart them! Mine are reg length and do indeed run a bit long in the leg. Ah well, I'll need to buy more shoes then! :P

    ReplyDelete
  40. JcrewPhd and Elaine, I have those matchsticks too and love them. I actually just rebought them for the lowest price since I had bought them two weeks ago for $59.99 (I have stalked them since the holidays) and I am actually tempted to keep both pairs, just in case. That's how much I love them.

  41. If anyone sees this skirt in store,
    I'd appreciate knowing about it:

Canvas Military Skirt, Size 0, green color. None left in the Seattle area stores.

    Thanks much!

    ReplyDelete
  42. JCrewJD - if they still have the Bonnie Blazer in Size 0, can you have the store hold it for me, please? I would love to find it! TIA

    ReplyDelete
  43. Tanger Mall, Riverhead NY Crewlet, almost everything in the store was either 30% off or 40% off. Trenches in poly/cotton (but nice), $24.99 before the 40% off. Lined, but very light. Good for travel, I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Haven't been to a store in ages...has anyone seen the knotted gold mesh necklace?

I ordered it as a ride along to meet the minimum for a recent promo. While waiting for it, I'm starting to REALLY want it....and it is now "sold out" on line. My order status is "waitlisted" w/delivery next week. But, I'm wondering if I should venture out to a store just in case I get the dreaded email regarding the status of my order.

Or, worse, never get the email or the necklace! That has happened to me with a previous "waitlisted" item.

    ReplyDelete
  45. A little OT, but has anyone tried the Sequin fête dress? It's so not appropriate for my lifestyle so of course I adore it. Any feedback on it? TIA!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Round up of in-store sale price info in this post.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Lots on sale in stores - I couldn't believe how big the sale section was! Lots of newer items, too. I got the downtown skinny in the light wash (29.99) and I love them! I'm a toothpick girl, but these are great, too. :) I also gave into the neon orange checked perfect shirt and the bavarian blue jackie. The 20% helped. I also got my sister a cute new skirt (not online yet) and the knit/lace dress (too lazy to look up the name :D). I really like the katie colorblock cami, but I want it to get marked down more before I buy it.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Has anyone tried on the weekend dress? Item 37275? It keeps changing stock online but I think I may love it?

    ReplyDelete
  49. @ Staci Staci

I have tried on the weekend dress and it was pretty cute. I ordered my usual size but found the top to be a bit bigger than I would have liked. The shoulders seemed to stick out a little too much for my liking. Sizing down might have helped. The fit reminds of the Olivia (?) dress from last summer. I ended up returning it since the reddish color was similar to that dress and I already have a navy one. HTH!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Heather-The tulip cami in dragonfly is a great color and not one i see from JC too often. I didnt find it to be too low cut but the ruffles at the waist made me look like i had huge hips, I am a size 2. I think it would work better with a jacket to balance out the bare arms but who wants to cover up such a cute top,

    ReplyDelete
  51. Staci Staci - I just got the Weekend dress in the reddish color during the last sale promo. I like it, BUT I feel it is a bit short for me. It falls well above the knee on me and I'm 5'3. Other than that it is really cute. The fabric is nice, kind of like chino material. I hope this helps.

    ReplyDelete
  52. QueenB-thanks for sharing! I picked up the dragonfly tulip ruffle cami this past weekend and you are right - it does bring attention to the hips! I tacked down (with thread) the outer ruffles' edges to the inner ruffles (if that makes any sense!)to flatten it a bit. And I think it looks a lot better! I still thought that it was a bit low cut in front, so I wore a lace cami inside and I think it looks okay!
