"Thanks!" to many of you, including egyptomaniac, JulieStyles & Fabulous Florida Mommy (in this post), who let us know that J.Crew had an update to its website today (click here to view online).
There are some new arrivals for men (click here) & women (click here). {wahoo!} It looks like Crewcuts (click here) has been updated, as did the J.Crew Collection (click here).
The latest May catalog (click here to view) is now available to view. The Men's only catalog is available too.
The theme throughout is LOVE, by showing various couples throughout the pages. I have to say it is a very cute concept! (Did you see how cute Banjo is with model Cameron!? That is how I hold my dogs too!)
It is also nice to see clothes being offered in bright hues like violet and rose shades. :) As for the new arrivals...
My lovelies... The Perfect Shirt in Teaberry (item 42076; $79.50)— the name says it all. It is perfect with its teaberry design! Another must have for me is the Doria Dress (Item 42577; $98.00). Combine a maxi dress with a jersey fabric, and I am yours. The Beatrice Blouse (Item 41525; $118.00) looks absolutely stunning on the model with its flowy, almost ethereal design. I am hoping it looks as good in person, and on me! ;)
Really?... Should the Baseball Henley (Item 42336; $52.00) cost that much? And what is up with the bottoms that the model is wearing?! The Nili Lotan Striped Bias-Fly Jean (Item 48763; $235.00) looks like long-johns that have (the crotch area) gone horribly wrong. How do you wear these ill-fitting off-kilter pants? I can't stop staring! (And not in the good way.) ;)
Meh... The Wispy Wind Trench (Item 43575; $198.00) is waaaay overpriced. It reminds me of the $10-20 nylon windbreakers packed into a square that you can find at your local store, near the umbrellas by the door. J.Crew states it's "sheer genius"... only if they manage to find someone to pay full price for it. If you want a trench, for around this price tag, go with something like the Iconic Trench.
More exciting news! J.Crew is offering free shipping with no minimum with promo code WARMUP. This amazing offer expires Sunday, April 24, 2011.
What items are you most excited about and why? Which items are you surprised (or not surprised) to see? Which items did you hope would be included? Were you expecting a bigger roll-out today? Also, did you receive the latest catalog? :)

ReplyDeleteAre the new arrivals already in stores??
ReplyDeleteVery disappointed in that windbreaker-thing, I was hoping for a hooded trench for summer that would be great for traveling.
ReplyDeleteLots of stuff I like though: the Casbah print scarves, the Silk Casbah Blouse, the Summer Hours Linen Dress in that periwinkle blue color, and the Medina heels.
The Havana clutch in the black rattan, which is one thing I might actually buy as I have one in natural and use it all the time in summer.
Love new roll-out time, especially reading what everyone thinks!
Liked the Larissa dress ($425) in the “Shop This Look” section, clicked the dress madly, only got the sweater and sneakers, searched Larissa, site's search engine “corrected” it to “marisssa” and showed me a bracelet...
ReplyDeleteThe striped linen boyfriend sweater 48752 isn't in the Collection part of the site, came up when clicked. The surprise is that they had to go halfway around the world for a drapey striped sweater. Will wait to see the “deliberately off-kilter bias-fly” jean IRL, 48763, with “slanted fly, a cropped leg and a slightly dropped seat” to decide if those are really deliberate features or oopses that were turned into features upon delivery. Still remembering the striped hoodie with the off-kilter front pocket.
Liking linen suit jacket and vest, the blazer and shorts look never did it for me but I know some will love it, and glad to see the return of a bright navy. Yes. At least you get a bright navy when you click it. Looks like black in the Shop This Look. Maybe you can get both? Hope so. And liked the look of the Jane dress 42454, wish it were more than partially lined.
The Maddie pants and the perfect shirt in linen are a nice combination, have been floating around for awhile. Thought the leather shorts needed embroidered suspenders and hat with feather.
Loving the Orange linen pants, red silk Blythe top, colored ballet flats (leather soles - yeah!), colored sandals, Silk casbah blouse....
ReplyDeleteLots of things I want to see IRL - Overall, a great roll out :)
I'm till struggling with color palette! I noticed a lot of linen too. While I liked some of the shoes, I struggle again, as the heels are sky high and are not work appropriate (or other functions like church, school fxn). Also, I'd like to see their styling for work-wear be more realistic so we can purchases "looks."
ReplyDeleteI'm actually seeing a lot of things I like! I'm heading to the store early this morning to get some pics for y'all! Will post as soon as I can. Love the Casbah print, especially in the silk top. Some pretty shoes, cute shorts, dresses with potential...we'll see how they work in person. Ordering the havana clutch for sure! Yay, now I love hearing what everyone else thinks...
ReplyDeleteHa, this is my favorite part of the new arrivals - dishing with the JCA's! WFF, I thought the same thing with the "bias-fly" pant... too bad they didn't come up with that sooner for the "bias-kangaroo-pocket-striped-hoodie"!
ReplyDeleteI'm liking the presence of color with this rollout (new Jackie and mixed-tape cardigan colors as well). Disappointed in some of the "extras" (exposed zippers, pouf sleeves) that to me are dealbreakers on otherwise cute pieces. Will be staying away from cotton-silk and "whisper linen". Elsa jacket looks like it could be cute... or a disaster. We shall see!
OT, but wonder if someone can help me with this: Are we able to use the giftcards that J.Crew issues for returns past 60 days on online sale items? TIA!! :)
ReplyDeleteicing queen - Absolutely! Just scratch off the little piece on the back - you'll need the PIN to complete the order.
ReplyDeleteyay! bunch of stuff i love... but i still see the same colors for the everyday chinos... i was hoping for some more spring-like colors similar to the waverly chinios. anyone know if there will be more colors for the everyday chinos? or can someone give me their opinion on the two fits? (maybe i'll switch chinos)
ReplyDeletesilver_lining: Thanks so much! That's fantastic, hope the stuff I'm eyeing is still around when my card arrives :)
ReplyDeletesub
ReplyDeleteI was in the concept store yesterday and I have to say, nothing stood out as fabulous. Let's see if there's anything interesting online....
ReplyDeletesub
ReplyDeleteSeveral items I'm interested in this time...orange linen Maddie pants, Tisbury bucket bag in natural, and all the items with the Casbah print. Now I just hope that all of it is nice IRL.
ReplyDeleteForgot to add the Calf Hair Brompton Hobo and short-sleeve selvedge chambray shirt (which I actually pre-ordered a couple months ago) to my list. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso need to add that the Cashbah romper is excluded from my earlier comment about liking everything in the Casbah print.
Yay for the code and the no minimum! And for the biggest sale restock ever!
ReplyDeleteHowever, I noticed that some of the sale items we love most disappeared overnight. For example the Delaney shirt (38507) and the bazaar tunic. Hey, J Crew -- please put them back!
^ and those cute straw fedoras that were $29.99 yesterday.... also gone!
ReplyDeleteFree ship w/ no min ....am i DREAMING???? Perfect shirt / schoolboy madras still not marked down, booo....but a hefty update to the sale section!
ReplyDeleteI have tried a few items from the Casbah print collection (the dress that is in the catalog but not online) and the perfect shirt and posted pics here. The romper wasn't in store yet.
ReplyDeleteI also tried the seersucker pencil skirt and it was GREAT, the website pics son't do it justice IMO.
I am excited about the rattan clucth as well, even if I am not sure if I like the atent detail. Now what color to pic, that's the quesion. Might go with the black as I have another natural-colored clutch for summert.
Sorry for the typos, I meant "I am not sure that I like the patent detail".
ReplyDeleteOh and I saw that Wispy Windy trench and the price is CRAZY, it looks like one of those cheap rain ponchos that you can buy in the streets for $5. Will end up at $20 for sure.
Thanks for all the pics of the Cashbah print pieces Ema! :)
ReplyDeleteBtw, the Casbah dress is online here. :)
Ema: Was the Seersucker pencil skirt lined? It doesn't say so in the description, but you never know. That is my #1 most-coveted item from this roll-out!
ReplyDeleteThe Jane dress!! I die! It's long enough for me I think. "Falls to knee" usually works for me. I'm getting measurements to confirm. I'm also in love with the cumber-button high waist skirt. Perfect for work and a great length. I saw a few other pieces I like as well. For me, this is the first rollout in a LONG time that has a few pieces I'm actually excited about.
ReplyDeleteLOVING the Casbah print! I particularly love the silk top, beach tunic, and scarf. I really wish they'd made it in a pencil skirt, but oh well!
ReplyDeleteAlso love the following:
Ikat Madras boy shirt
Eyelet Derby dress in green
Eyelet pencil skirt in caspian night (beautiful color!)
Seersucker pencil skirt
Linen swoon skirt in blue
Linen Maddie pant in orange
FFM, thanks for the link. It wasn't there when I looked, as weren't the blouse and the romper. I will update the post with the links.
ReplyDeleteAppGal, I am sorry, I don't remember (must go back). I kind of liked the exposed zip on this one, it goes well with the fabric.
The first thing that really stands out is the purple thistle color. Amazing! I love it in the ballet flat and the cashmere sweater for starters :)
ReplyDeletethe nili lotan bias fly jean - really? Like I want to look like I have man bits in my pants? Oy.
ReplyDelete"Free Shipping" .....two favorite words!!! Looks like someone is paying attention to what the bloggers/Facebook readers & writers are saying, even if it is temporary. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteOh, the seersucker pencil skirt has an exposed zipper? @$%&*!!
ReplyDeleteOperaRach: I'm still laughing about your comment re: nili lotan pant. It will be on sale in a week, for sure. Ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteJust chatted with an online CS rep who said that the Seersucker skirt is NOT lined. Length for the size 4 is 21.75"
ReplyDeletesilver_lining: I know! Kind of a bummer for me too, but maybe with the stripes it will blend in more? Wonder why they didn't include a back shot of the skirt in the product pics?
ReplyDeleteHi AppGal - I've been noticing they've been not posting back views of the some of the items with exposed zips (Tribune dress used to have a back view, but was taken down). That new heather lace shell (44115) has exposed zip in the description but doesn't show it. Conspiracy... or just lazy?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, check out the description for the Matchstick tape strips (50673): "The translucent, residue-free adhesive sticks to fabric and skin, solving all manner of fashion mishaps, taming wayward straps, slipped hems, unsightly puckering and won't-stay-put necklines."
Oh boy....
WTF... Cotton Pants for $295? (Referring to the Maddie Pant)Have they lost it? I don't think Theory cotton pants are even that much full price, and at least with them you can count on them being high quality.
ReplyDeleteI do love the paisley minnies but again, the price is outlandish. A few years ago they sold the cafe capris in all kinds of cute prints and they were like, $70-$80 full price. Geez!
Happy to see suiting skirts that are actually long enough to wear to work (Cumber-button pencil skirt in bi-stretch wool), and the lace bloomers are effing adorable. I also love all the new wedges that aren't, as J.Crew loves to say, "SKY HIGH", and some of the sandals are actually cute too.
For a while there, the only items I was buying were liberty print, or the more classic items (Calf hair belt, cafe capris, fav. tanks, denim pencil). Now there are actually more than 2 things I like. Hopefully J.Crew keeps up the trend.
there's quite a lot that peaked my interest! the casbah romper, gala short, nili boyfriend sweater, jane dress, doria dress...oh my, the list goes on a bit!
ReplyDeleteof course, it's all for naught until i see/try on, but hoping at a least half of it looks as good IRL!
Re: Paisley Minnie pants
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else think this paisley print looks familiar? Looks like the same paisley print J Crew used several years ago. I'm at work now and can't check but I have the pants, shorts and dress in this print from a few summers back.
Also, can anyone report if the May catalog is out at the store? It takes so long for the catalog to arrive in the mail. This catalog looks like one I want to look at right away. Thanks!
I really like the Ink Dip Popover - the colors and style. Love the Casbah print! Vintage cotton lace tee is cute but not for $55! Cashmere stripe cardi is also cute. I actually like the Loretta wood heels. I'm a sucker for wood heels, though. But OMG, those bias zip jeans are a hot mess!
ReplyDeleteOT. I just placed a small order under $25 with free shipping and there was NO sales tax on my order. Does anybody know if it's free tax week in NYC? Anybody else got this?
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that they finally got that they are going to sell more if they give free shipping, especially when a new rollout comes out.
shopalot, I thought so too. It looks almost identical.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the paisley pencil skirt that everyone has been talking about looks strikingly similar to this mini from a few years ago. I have seen them alot on eBay lately.
FFM - that calf hair Brompton is months and months old. Saw it in the Soho store before Christmas. It is a really lovely bag - the color is PERFECT. Not sure why it is put as a new item on the web now. Maybe it was a store only piece and they decided to produce more? I think there is even a picture floating around of Jenna carrying it, but that could be a figment of my imagination.
ReplyDeletejenn_brak: You are right! Now that you mention it, I do remember seeing it online awhile ago. Wasn't it part of the Holiday rollout? Not sure why they would put it in as a new arrival. Guess I need to pay more attention to the rollouts. ;)
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let anyone interested know that I have a size 2 or 4 of the Gingham Schoolboy shirt in Light Mist that has to go back to the store this weekend. Unfortunately I won't know until Friday evening which size I'll be keeping. I will sell it for $40 including shipping(unless I get to the post office and it's much more to ship than I thought in which case I'll let you know).
ReplyDeleteContact:
ken_k80120@yahoo.com
Many pretty things to balance the equally laughable items! I have about $1200 sitting in my cart!
ReplyDeleteAnyone else notice that their new overused marketing catchphrase is "you'll want one in every colour!" I read this at least five times in the 10 minutes I was on the site.
Shopalot- it's exactly the same!! And it even says cotton canvas - the same fabric as last time! Only last time the pants were $118.... $275 is ridiculous. I have 2 pairs of this pant from 2003 - one I had cropped years ago and one I left long - adore this print but never thought I'd see them do it again. Think they're making a mistake by not mentioning that it's from their archives...
ReplyDeleteLove the free shipping, I bought one item (a Katelyn cardi popback), and I'll continue to buy items as I see them.
ReplyDeleteFigures that the one day I don't get up super early is a day they totally restock the sale section! :( I hope I didn't miss out on my top priority items. Looks like I'll be getting up early tomorrow.
Oh geez, I just noticed that there's a new color in the Cecila dress--casablanca blue! I don't need multiples, do I? But that color...
ReplyDeleteMust have item:
ReplyDeleteNili Lotan Bias Fly Jean
We fell in love with the peguin dance from Mary Poppins inspired look of these pants. We know how many of you want your legs to look shorter and more ill shaped. These pants have perfectly captured the saggy diaper crotch look of the moment.
@Clicquot -- about "one in every color".... oh, but it's so true! :) I'm embarrassed about how many J Crew items I own with the exact same style in multiple colors.
ReplyDeleteFFM - Sorry was not meaning to correct you. I did not know it had been online before. Was just really surprised to see it as a "new" item. Also, has anyone else noticed that "final sale" is not on a lot of the sale stuff? I just placed an order for two really old items that were not marked final sale. I am pretty sure they were previously though. Am I imagining this?
ReplyDeleteLOVE Nili Lotan and am surprised they teamed up with her as she's not very main stream. I think her best pieces are shirts and jackets which hopefully they'll offer in the future. Her line has become hard to find outside of her Tribeca studio/shop. My husband has some great Billy Reid pieces--another smart collaboration.
ReplyDeleteI see the makings of a full cart but sadly, still no longer jackets.
Love the Heather lace shell, the metallic linen henley, most of the skirts.
ReplyDeleteThe Minnie cotton paisley pants could be cute if the pattern falls in all the correct places -- otherwise it could be a disaster.
Just say NO to the bias crotch pants. What is THAT?
Bellwether, thank you for confirming re: the paisley print. For a minute I thought I was seeing things. Can't wait to get home and pull out the "oldies". I think my pants are still NWT - wanted to have them cropped and never got around to it. I hope this is a sign that J Crew is going back to some of the old quality but I'm not holding my breath. Just stitched up a hole in my brand new perfect fit boatneck. Why oh why does almost everything require some sort of repair after one or two wears?
ReplyDeleteOh, and love lots of the sandals -- too many to name!
ReplyDeleteI really like this collection, especially seeing my favorite color green! Ordered the Silk Casbah blouse, Beatrice blouse in muslin (although I also love smoldering brick), Heather lace shell, Casbah bikini, and the Escape tunic in seashore green. I also ordered a few sale shirts for my fiance. :-)
ReplyDeleteI am interested in a few other items, as well, but I'm going to hold off for a bit.... I have to show some restraint!
indio pursette = adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteWhat chinos is she wearing in this shot
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for this color and fit. TIA! :-D
following up on my earlier post on disappearing items... I called J Crew to ask about the Delaney eyelet shirt that I was considering buying yesterday. It is now gone but was in stock in all colors/sizes last night. At first CS said that it was in stock in my sizes and asked me to search for the item number online to order. Of course it didn't show up.
ReplyDeleteShe then said she had to talk to a supervisor and put me on hold. When she came back, she said that the item had sold out overnight but her inventory list hadn't been updated.
Hmm. Smells fishy to me.
Rosie, that's crap. The tea-stained dobby dress has been removed from the site too, and I saw it happen! One minute I searched and got it, the next minute it was gone. This happens every time there are new arrivals - it will be back in a couple of days.
ReplyDeleteWell, after not spending much the last few rollouts, JCrew won me over. I just put in my cart, and plan on ordering (with my student discount....pfew)
ReplyDeleteEyelet Pencil Skirt in Caspain Night
Playa Skirt in Citron
Linen Swoon Skirt in Casablanca Blue
Casbah Romper
Gala Short
It is the colors....they won me over. Now if it was only warm enough to wear any of these items... :)
I was too busy looking through the massive sale update with the free shipping code... now, time to research the new arrivals :)
ReplyDeleteI looove the new colours: Jade, Dahlia, Casablanca Blue... sign me up for more cardis and shirts, please... The continuation of that flimsy silk/cotton blend fabric? not so much. Someone must have heard me about trousers, but the lack of colours (Navy, khaki, I already have 3 pairs each, thanks) and the crazy price points! $295 for pair of unlined cotton trousers? Seriously???
ReplyDeleteI love the new roll out. I found about 4-5 things that I must have! Unfortunately, 4 of the items are waitlisted!! Argh! I hope I don't have to wait to long!
ReplyDeleteI am loving the colours as well. Green is my favourite and I also ordered the new cafe capri in that pink colour. Love it!
I used to love it when they would post items on the side panel i.e. you might like. Now if i am browsing a shirt, I don't want to see 3 other similar shirts, I want to see what pant, shoes and belt I could buy to complete the look! They used to do that and it made me buy a lot more.
I suppose it is good for my pocketbook though!
I just noticed the cashmere henley tee: adorable!
ReplyDeletepathos--they MIGHT be waverlys but sized up a bit (the model is teeny). They look like the color currently on sale. I LOVE and live in mine.
ReplyDeleteJust got back from the B&M. AppGal, the seersucker pencil skirt is lined in ivory cotton - but the exposed back zipper is, in my opinion, totally hideous. It fit very well - I wore the smaller of my 2 JC skirt sizes because the cotton has some stretch in it, and I probably would've paid FP for it today and worn it tomorrow if there was a normal (read, not exposed utilitarian) zipper. Very disappointing.
ReplyDeletejinks, hilarious! Those jeans could not be less flattering! The bias fly looks like a gross manufacturing defect. There is NO functional reason for a bias fly. It's not like an asymm zip on a jacket, which is meant to keep wind out. The bias fly is not "endearing", it's fad crap. "Look everyone, I have a fly that tilts sideways, aren't I cool?" This reminds me of the Eleanora popover, I was going to buy it today and then I noticed that one pocket is large and the other is small. Again, looks like a gross manufacturing defect. I hope this isn't a continuing trend with the J Crew clothes. What next, a pair of shoes with one high heel and the other low?
ReplyDeletesilver_lining: Gah, so tired of all these inconsistencies! Why would the CS rep tell me it was unlined? Thanks for the report. Sometimes exposed zips don't bother me, but I guess I'll need to see it in person before I take the plunge. The new color in the Cecilia dress has already taken over my every thought! :)
ReplyDeleteI found a few things that I like but I suspect once I have time to take a closer look there won't be much I actually buy. I am avoiding anything whisper, feather, lightweight, etc.
ReplyDeleteSaw the periwinkle Jackie in store last week and it is pretty, but I already have a periwinkle Jackie from a few years back with a slightly different rib trim and birds-eye buttons so I won't be needing another, especially since the quality on the older ones is much better.
More colors of the mixed-tape cardi, just when I think I've got them all - hah!
The Casbah print is lovely but too green for my complexion, I suspect. I might try it but if the perfect shirts are still crazy thin then I'll pass. Maybe the bikini.
Disappointed to see the exposed zipper trend continues and the saggy crotch trend has been ramped up. I still refuse to wear anything with an exposed zipper, I really detest that look. The angled zipper pants just look defective or like someone's first attempt at home made jeans - after too many martinis.
I went to the store and forgot to load in my memory card in the camera -- argh! I'll just recap. First of all, they didn't have a number of the pieces I really wanted to see (like silk Casbah, rattan clutch, playa skirt, all the dresses I wanted to try), but I tried on several pieces.
ReplyDeleteThe Cecilia dress in blue is a really pretty color, but still didn't look great on me.
The Camille Wedges and Iris tortoise sandals were adorable and TTS (and seemed comfy).
The Captain Cardigan was very cute, but priced too high at $98.
They only had the Casbah perfect shirt and scarf (both very pretty!). They didn't have out all those gorgeous bright colors, which was a bit disappointing.
I don't think it's new, but the Clip Elastic Belt is super adorable.
Tissue Ikat Tank was nice in both colors and is wishlisted.
Whisper linen tee was a cute shape and the blue was pretty, but I fear for how long it will last, between washing and snags.
Seersucker skirt was lovely on, but am agreeing that there was just no need for the exposed zip. Boo on that. The No2 Pencil skirt in cobalt looked like a bright navy. Nice, but not as bright as I'd hoped. There was a pretty floral flowy silk (?) skirt that was a great lenth finally!
Loving the shorts! Sad the minnow shorts were sooo short. They're cute and a fun throwback. Love the Sidewalk Short -- fit was TTS and flattering. I just couldn't pay FP. Didn't see the paisley print (wanted to see the bermudas!).
I may be alone in this but I am not really impressed and in fact I'm bored with Jcrew right now. I'm tired of this style they have adopted and would love to go back to classics with a major kick. I'm through with overlly bagging, paper thin, short skirts / dresses, sky high heels, and slouching in every cut. I stare at the new arrivals trying to find things I can make myself like. I feel like a lot of these looks were madewell last season and Im starting to see a trend. Trendy peices first with madewell and when they go main stream jcrew picks them up. I go back to the days I loved jcrew and remember what I loved about them. Ive realized they have changed forever. Didn't Mickey do this same thing to Gap? I'm filing for a separation from Jcrew for the first time in my life. They have been my only retailer for 10 + yrs and I'm done. I finally accepted the reality. I don't even know where to shop from here. Lands end canvas
ReplyDeletehere I come! (sorry that was so negative! The reality just hit me)
All kinds of cute new arrivals at Factory plus a huge amount of FINAL SALE items (looks like the end of final sale has not extended to Factory). Pencil skirt fans, check out all of the patterns available. I'm hoping to get to the Factory store soon so I can see what things look like in person.
ReplyDeleteMegan, I feel bad for you because I know how crappy it is when something you've loved for years is suddenly changed, possibly forever. I will say though that I'm on the other side, I never really liked J Crew very much because it was too "preppy" (to use an old term), I didn't like bright colors, etc, so I bought very little from them until recently. Now I'm seeing tons that I like, especially shoes but also clothes and accessories. I think for every one person who loses interest there is probably another one who becomes a new fan. But just wait a while, check back now and then, because fashion is ever-changing and your own tastes might also change (I can't believe I'm drawn to color now, I was always a neutrals person). J Crew would actually be wise to satisfy both long-term and new customers with a mix of garments.
ReplyDeleteOff topic ... I sent back size 7 Wylders, they are more like a 7.5 or even 8 in J Crew sizing. I adore these boots and hated to send them back. So if anyone is wanting the Wylders, watch for the popback. BTW, they are in pristine condition, appeared to be straight from the factory and never even tried on, and my brief try-on didn't change their appearance at all. They're perfect.
ReplyDelete@silver_lining -- oh, that was a cute dress. :( I know from reading the blog that "disappearances" have happened before. Maybe they'll be back up when the promo's over?
ReplyDeletegem twin-thank you! I am going to look for them now!
ReplyDeletePS- I also noticed a dress disappear from the site - The Sirah dress :(
Looking forward to hitting the J.Crew store in Vegas next week. So much better to be judging items in person instead of on a monitor.

ReplyDeleteElsa jacket on page 34 looks lovely!
ReplyDeletexoxo, I google'd "saggy crotch trend" and got a 2008 blog hit regarding harem pants which is pretty funny. "As long as your crotch is somewhere around your knees, you're all set." :) I love her term "sloparific".
ReplyDeleteI suppose for health reasons a saggy crotch is desirable since it allows the air to flow between one's legs (or maybe it's good for someone who was recently pierced down there). If I want increased air flow or decreased friction I'll just wear a skirt, thanks anyway J Crew.
In recent years, I actually have been happy about J Crew's move away from very preppy but the quality (or lack of quality) is upsetting to me.
ReplyDeleteMany of my purchases from last spring and summer didn't hold up that well and everything I looked at today looks tired to begin with. I tried about 10 items in my B&M and everything was thin or had loose threads or other issues. I walked out of the store with nothing added to my "when it goes on sale in three week" list and several items crossed off.
I want the lace popover and the new red striped shirt, but overall my interest lately has been with Boden, Ann Taylor and even Talbots. They aren't perfect either, but at least clothing doesn't look shabby after the first wearing.
Honestly, I am duplicating a lot of the crew's look with items purchased elsewhere.
Good call, kitsmommy - I'm gravitating toward the same approach. I'm wearing a pair of LE wide-leg chinos today and the inside of the pants have this blue and white "shirting" trim and lace piping. Super cute, very old-JC and great quality. Plus, if they were to fall apart I could take them back no questions asked.
ReplyDeletetamara and kitsmommy,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your thoughts (and condolences)! Your right we are all so different and I'm sure pleasing us all isn't always the easiest task for Jcrew.
I guess it is that major difference that has come about in the past 10 years it what strikes me and of course quality is one of those major differences that we discuss a lot here. (although I have been happy with some of the items quality I have purchased lately so maybe there is hope?)
I am sure I will still sip the crewlade as old habits are hard to break but no more crewlade biggulps for me.
Preppy at heart is what I will always be, no one ever did it as cool as Jcrew did though...
Special note, I saw THE baseball henly at target the other day. Same cut and fabric. I think that one will be one sale by the end of next week. Any bets?
I do think the Boy Shirt in Ikat Madras is promising. Love the vibrant color. The cecilia dress is also forever on my mind...
Liking the casbah print, the romper is a refreshing take on summer wear but IMO the style would have also made a cute shift/dress.
ReplyDeleteA lyla or lulu style pump and a clutch would have been awesome additions to the collection. Also the sleeves on the romper would have been perfect on the Escape tunic, like the prints but the longer sleeve just doesn’t work for me.
The Casbah blouse on the other hand brought flashbacks of the Medallion Lattice Top from a few seasons back.Lusted after it for months only to have it come apart at the hem after only 2 wears.
Love the Linen tuxedo tunic and the Elsa jacket (wish it came in more colors)
Also love the Amie, Summerstock and Doria Maxi dresses, but can not avoid the fact that these just may require a trip to a B&M to avoid the distress of sizing discrepancies.
The Glitteratii clutch is a must have and further fuels my “crewsade” for the Antonia glitteri t-strap peep toes from a few holidays ago. Can't help myself,I‘m the girly girl type who likes to have matching shoes and pocketbooks…*sigh* (see my previous looking to find post)
Tha casbah print is to die for. As with most rollouts, there are just a few of the 'featured' items that I'll chase down; most of the rest don't work for my lifestyle (or my budget, lol). I'm 38, not petite and rarely elfin in nature, so a romper would be downright comical on me -- I'll skip that particular piece. But the tunic ... LOVE!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, shopalot, those cotton paisley Minnies do look an awful lot like a paisley print from a few years ago. I have the shift dress in that pattern. ... I believe there were also pants, shorts and a skirt at one time.
Re: quality ... I dunno, I've stated repeatedly that I've been quite lucky as far as quality issues. Or maybe it's that I never, ever, EVER pay full price for anything, so I'm more tolerant of a stray thread or a pilly fabric? My expectations are in line with the price I pay?
All I can say is I'd be nekkid if I cut myself off from the Crew. It's in my blood at this point. It's not like I need to buy even one single thing for the next several years anyway, but you get my point. :) I try and try and try to find things I like in other stores, but it literally seems impossible. Either I don't like the fabric or the fit is off, or it's too mature or too young ... this is the only thing that works for me.
jcrew guy in Canada - In case you didn't know, one of the Vegas stores has closed. I'm pretty sure it was the one at Fashion Place Mall.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the middle on the new arrivals. I'm not 100% preppy, so I'm ok w/losing some of the older J Crew style. They're definitely not appealing to me right off the bat with the new roll outs. If someone asked me to describe J Crew now, I don't think I could do it. The collections seem to lack an identity and few pieces are memorable. Stop it w/the triple strap shoes. I think most of the shoes are awful. Just my personal opinion as I know there's been a shoe wave love going around as of late. I will say that eventually some of the clothing items really strike my fancy (delaney eyelet trim shirt), but it's after seeing them for a long time & on the blogs. I think the sweet spot for me was 2005 or so thru 2009.
Rosie,
ReplyDeleteDisappearing items happen every time they update the site with new arrivals. Same thing has happened to the item I have wanted to buy; was hoping for a no min./free ship code and now that it is there I cannot get my item but I know it will show up again in a few days---just in time for the free shipping to expire!
It doesn't help to call CS or have a Personal Online Shopper help either. Been there; done that--figured it out on my own.
Is anyone else liking the denim western shirt? I really don't need to revisit 8th grad circa
ReplyDelete1980's, but I love the way this is styled on Arizona Muse in the catalog.
gigi, I agree with you about the straps on the shoes. I hate to see J Crew's shoes go in the dominatrix direction, it's hard to wear those to work and be taken seriously. I actually sent an email to J Crew about that, asking for them to continue offering more conservative styles like Collins, Lindy, Gibson, etc.
ReplyDeleteMy wallet is toast. Love so many things, my cart is $1,200 full. Loving the colors: indigo, jade green, thistle, etc. First time I've liked a spring rollout in years. In an ideal world, everything fits great and I have a second job so I can checkout everything. Sigh, and I felt so confident I can save up for fall... Word verification is "warman". Is that my husband preparing for battle?
ReplyDeleteGigi: I also agree. Wish they would bring back the Juliet pump in all the yummy colors since I missed out on that one. I just recently scored on 2 of the older Mary Jane styles. Not a fan of the recent offerings!
ReplyDeleteI am loving the linen perfect shirt for women, I've been looking for great linen for some time. My DH has loads of the Baird McNutt linen from JC and it's terrific, washes up so well, and has that classic handsome look. He wears them through the winter too, under his Harris Tweed jackets. I've been jealous of those shirts for years.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of the Baird McNutt for Men there are some new colors so that is a must for DH: the Bedford Blue in particular.
What I'm trying: the Cecelia in that casablanca color, the eyelet Derby dress in the Warm Jade and the linen perfect shirt, can't decide on a color, the orchid blue and desert pink are both great.
Oh and the black rattan clutch is a must!
Rosie: Which size and color are you looking for in Delaney Eyelet shirt? I have one (new with tag) in size 4 in the olive moss color. I will consider selling it. If you're interested, can you leave me an email address? (I only have a work email address that reveals my identity too easily.)
ReplyDeleteGigi & AppGal - a little OT, but I was strolling through the Kate Spade store a few days ago and they have the most AMAZING shoes that look just.like.juliets. In amazing colors. and because they are kate spade, they come in more sizes (eh hem, 10.5), great colors (a green TDF), and will be comfy and last forever. oh yeah, leather soles. I didn't see the price, though most of their pumps hoover around $300, however they have promos on their site often, as does endless.com on KS shoes (can you tell I'm a KS fan?) They aren't on the web site yet... but I am so excited because I could never wear Juliets although I tried many times with different sizes and colors.
ReplyDeletejcrew guy in Canada
ReplyDeleteGigi is right, don't go to the fashion show mall for Jcrew, youll find bare bones to an Urban Outfitters (I am told they offered the management company more money for the space) Make sure you go to Town Square (much nicer IMO). It is on the south side of the strip. You can also hit the outlet with a Men's section by visiting the premium outlets on the northern part of town.
Okay, JCA's - anybody notice that there's a "collection" section in Spring Sale? I don't think I've ever seen those items before.
ReplyDeletemack,
ReplyDeleteI too love KS. I am fortunate to have an outlet near by which always runs great promo's and the quality seems up to par. If you have one near by I would suggest checking it out since none of us really like to pay retail. : )
Argghhh, rather disappointed. I don't know if anyone else has said this already as I don't have time to read all 101 prior comments, but I haaaaate the new color palettes. J. Crew seems to be moving back in the preppy direction of pre-2009 and the color palette is no exception - bold, brassy, preppy primary colors. I miss the beautiful, subtle shades of the past 1.5 years or so, like the soft, light greens and blues, and dusty pinks and purples.
ReplyDeleteI think I generally have the opposite opinion with J. Crew's style directions as most people who comment on this blog - I loooove the romantic, crazy-layered looks of the period from fall 2009 to fall 2010 and heavy, dressy crystal pieces. Winter 2010 saw a move back to basic and preppy, and recent seasons have continued this trend. Just look at the new jewelry offerings. No more gorgeous, statement-making crystal; we're headed back to thin gold chains and boring pendants. Sad.
I am heading to Vegas on Sunday and I already mapped out the outlet at the North mall and the store at the Town Square mall. These are the only 2 stores left in Vegas.
ReplyDeletegigiofca Thanks so much for the heads up; my PS told me the same thing. There's only one store in Vegas now at the Town Square mall. Sadly they don't carry shoes.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I'll find plenty of place to spend $$$$$$$$.
Sorry I meant to thank Rose and Megancrew as well.
ReplyDeleteIt's been seven years since I shopped in Vegas; the Premium Outlets (hello Polo and Lacoste) are on my list as well as Caesars and Town Square. With shows to see, shopping and some gaming there won't be time to relax, but I can sleep at home.
made a quick trip to store and tried the following:
ReplyDeleteprefect shirt in casbah paisley, pier stripe sweatshirt, perfect in linen, garden skirt, sidewalk short
blurry fitting room pix :P

mack, Thanks for the heads up on the kate spade juliet lookalikes! 10.5, I so need J.Crew to start making that size again. I am not sure when they stopped (5 years ago or more) but it makes me sad. I would buy them in every color I don't have if J.Crew came out with Juliets again. Especially if they made them more comfortable/in 10.5!
ReplyDeletesilverlining, if I'd seen that sequin feather dress before now, whether on web or in collection store, I'm fairly certain I'd have mentioned it. If only it came in weathered twig (pink) or wild taupe (pink) or retro brick (pink), I'd consider it for part of my outfit for the Wedding of the Year (BTW invitation still has not arrived and getting just the teensiest bit nervous).
ReplyDelete@ Genny -- sorry, I didn't mean to sound needy or expect everyone else to fix my problem. I _did_ figure this out on my own (and already knew about this problem from following the blog) but I just wanted to post in case there were other JCAs searching for the same item.
ReplyDeleteRosie,
ReplyDeleteYou didn't sound needy. I was just trying to sympathize with you and/or be helpful.
silver_lining, I don't believe I have seen those collection sale items before. Next thing you know they will have Factory Collection. Or Collection Factory. Whichever is worse. :P
ReplyDeleteAlso, I've noticed that recently Loft has started doing tops in soft, lovely colors. (Did they do this before? I didn't follow them then. Maybe they took a cue from J. Crew?) Their Basic Scooped Tee comes in 20(!!) colors, some of them quite sweet and gorgeous. I also found at least one long-sleeved popover (a must for me - it's easy to have too many cardigans) sweater, also in beautiful colors, that I've gotten or wanted to get.
ReplyDeleteLong-sleeved pullover knits in lovely colors are a staple for me as I wear them 9 or 10 months out of the year here in Seattle (I personally also tend to get cold easily). They're a large part of how I choose my retailers and what first drew me to J. Crew in Spring 2010. Color updates in the Perfect Fit Long-Sleeved Crewneck are pretty much the first thing I look for in a new rollout, so I hope J. Crew produces nice ones in the future. They're really the only retailer I can find that does a satisfactorily thick long-sleeved cotton crewneck in a good range of colors (Eddie Bauer is the other, and they have better quality tees, but XS's aren't available online and the colors aren't as good). I know I'm making a double post on this topic, lol sorry.
Hahaha, "weathered twig" and "wild taupe". :) I especially like wild taupe, as if taupe could ever be wild. Cute.
ReplyDeletexoxo: Factory does have a "Collection" I think. If I remember correctly, the lace tank from last year was a part of their collection. I think only certain Crewlets carry these items, though.
ReplyDeleteAppGal, no kidding? I was just being facetious. I can see Collection items ending up at the factory stores but to design a line of Collection just for factory doesn't compute for me.
ReplyDeleteYes Bring back size 10.5 shoes!!
ReplyDeletexoxo: Yeah, I'm not 100% sure, but I seem to remember there being a mention of a Factory Collection when there was hubbub about that lace tank. Maybe someone else can confirm? And yes, I agree...doesn't really make sense to me either!
ReplyDeleteLots that I like online and I'm hoping I like on me! :) Items of interest: silk Casbah blouse, short-sleeve chambray shirt (I've been waiting for this to show up!), asymmetrical stripe cardi, sidewalk blazer in summer plaid (another I've been waiting for), vacation dress in tender thistle, new cafe capri in dried rose, oxford scout chino in butter(thank you, JC, for finally bringing back a butter colored capri - I almost cried when I ruined my last butter colored capris years ago and I've been waiting and hoping for a repeat of this color), confetti pendant necklace in silver, and jackie in rustic twig. Can't wait to try these on this weekend - hope my b&m has all these items. If I like them all, it's going to be hard to narrow down but I'll have to! :D
ReplyDeleteRight now, nothing is really catching my eye. I like the look of the Playa skirt but in linen, I'm worried after 2 seconds sitting down, I'll be a wrinkled mess. The cobalt blue pencil skirt is nice but... I was hoping for some interesting prints and patterns. The free shipping promo is terrific though.
ReplyDeleteI worked late today and was DYING all day to check out the new arrivals! Reminds me that JC is a sickness with me.
ReplyDeleteThe Casbah print is to-die-for. I see many things I love this time is colors I can actually wear, a good rollout for me. Thrilled about the rattan clutch, I returned the last version from a couple years ago for a defect, and have wanted one ever since!
If you want to see the back of the seersucker pencil skirt, look at the jenna cardigan. You can't see all of it, but enough to get an idea of what it looks like.
ReplyDeleteAppGal and silver lining, there are factory collection items, and it makes no sense to me either. I do have the collection (factory) tiered brique skirt, and it is identical to the retail version. The difference is that I paid $20 for it on clearance on one of the awesome extra 50% off clearance sales they often have at factory stores... all that such an impractical yet cute skirt is worth to me. The retail one was $128, and the factory one was $98.50 I think.
ReplyDeleteStopped by a b&m on the way home. Surprisingly, the one item I loved was the casbah print perfect shirt. I didn't like this print online, but it is so pretty irl, it just screams summer. I'll have to go back and get that one. I expected to love the seersucker skirt but the exposed zipper really bugged me (although I have the horizon stripe skirt and the zipper doesn't bother me at all).
ReplyDeleteSome striking items like the Featherknit tank (the name should be warning enough alone!) and the Linen Bermuda Jacket. Very cute, but I can guarantee they won't pass the quality test. The last thing I want in the summer is a whole in my top and a wrinkled blazer! :P
ReplyDeleteI pick up the new catalog tonight and I had to mention that there are A LOT of smiling models. I seemed more realistic and personal....Something I don't feel we were seeing last year. Pleasant....
ReplyDeleteHi MeganCrew, I noticed that as well! A refreshing change from last April and May's catalogs.
ReplyDeleteThanks math teacher - yup, that's the back of the seersucker skirt! The zipper pull has some grograin attached to it as well. Another reason I don't like them - when I was trying on the skirt, my top got caught in the zipper. Yikes!
Did I get up early for nothing? (sigh) The one day, yesterday, that I didn't get up early they had a massive update. Today, nothing. :( Any of you clairvoyant types want to predict the next update?
ReplyDeleteAn update occurred while I was whining about no update. :)
ReplyDeleteUh, there's an "Original Maine Lobster Kit" (50513) in the sale section, accessories. LOL
ReplyDeletesilver_lining, I saw that! Apparently someone bought it!
ReplyDeleteJust posted IRL pics of the Casbah romper here. It was actually better than I thought!
ReplyDeleteHi WFF: I found the Larissa dress online. The Collection line-up says it is $465.00 but the item itself says $565.00. Not that I can afford it but I don't get the price discrepancy. It is a pretty looking dress but such a drab color.
ReplyDeleteI love the Casbah print, but I just don't know if it will go with my skin tone, which is olivish.
Rose: Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas!
The weather is GREAT in the mid 80s.
The style offerings are all over the place, from trendy to confusing IMO. The Toga dress, those baggy crotched pants, What the Heck is going on?
Also, J. Crew take a hint from all my shoe shopping returns. We NEED to sell SHOES in Las Vegas, Nevada and you lost a swimsuit sale yesterday as a tourist was asking for a J. Crew swim suit, but sadly, our one and only Retail Store does NOT carry them. Heck, while I am on a rant, bring back a Fashion Show Mall store so we can shop in AC when it is 120 degrees out here in the desert.
I'm done. How cathartic.
It seems very bizarre that a J Crew store in Las Vegas would not carry swimsuits! Parkas I could understand.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting up early tomorrow in my futile quest to snag my remaining desired items. (sigh) I hope they do Saturday morning updates, otherwise I'm going to be cranky. :)
@Tamara: I live for free shipping since we only have the basics in our Vegas store. My husband is very happy they do not carry shoes, because like you, I have an addiction to their shoes right now. It is really quite a sickness ! I missed the last big AM update. I too hope for a big update tomorrow AM. :)
ReplyDeleteOnly a few minor popbacks this morning so I cleaned the kitchen. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling a little better about my shoe binge now that it's looking like the J Crew shoe styles are changing and I might not find much I like in the next couple of seasons. I hope I'm not just rationalizing an addiction. :) I think I need to re-read the shopping addiction thread. I love my J Crew shoes. Love love love. Need more. :)
I was finally rewarded for getting up early, I got the Silk Safari blazer in my correct size. (I had bought two smaller sizes with the intention of doing an enlargement alteration, they are now up for sale in the sale thread, NWT, I will make no profit from them). Still hoping for some other things to pop back. I think I logged on shortly after 5am CDT, seems like I caught the update in progress and yet other shoppers were buying like crazy! The free shipping allowed me to jam the blazer into my cart and checkout right away rather than load up with other stuff. When the WARMUP promo ends, I hope there's a major shoe update.
ReplyDeleteOh crum, I placed 3 orders today (thanks to free shipping), the Safari blazer is the item I most want and was the first order I placed, it's showing "Releasable" while other two are already "Released". I hope the blazer doesn't get cancelled. :(
ReplyDeleteI hope there's a bigger update tomorrow since the free shipping ends tonight.
sub!
ReplyDeleteDoes someone know why the Sirah dress will reappear then disappear from the site, only to reappear a week or two later? Today the customer service rep said things disappear when they're sold out. But everyday I checked it was available in all 3 colors in both XS and S. I'm just surprised how overnight it could be gone in all three colors in both sizes. I suppose it's possible, but seems unlikely. Plus, normally when an item sells out it will say "We're sorry. This item has been so popular, it has sold out" at least for a little while after it sells out. For the Sirah dress, I can't even find the item page anymore. Does anyone know why this has happened?
