We caught up with the president and executive creative director of J.Crew at the high-street label’s Fall '11 preview in New York and found out all about her closet essentials, her daily dressing routine, and what she had to say about working alongside Anna Wintour and Diane von Furstenberg at the CFDA awards. Watch our video to hear Jenna give us the inside scoop!
What are your thoughts on the video? Did you find any piece of advice that she shared "spot on" or "missed the mark"? Please share! :)

  1. Fun interview, I love her rapid-fire way of speaking, she packs an awful lot of info into a very short amount of time!

I dislike the burgundy sequin outfit and the pointed-toe shoes. I think the latter might help me make up for my recent shoe binge :), I may not be buying J Crew shoes this fall if they've all got pointed toes. But there's so much else in the Fall 2011 collection that I love. Jenna is so good for J Crew.

I hope FOX News and other media struggling for stories don't create another faux controversy because Jenna's son picks out her shoes and prefers the sparkly ones. Her son must be adorable!

  3. I agree with Tamara, it was a fun interview and it did get me excited for Fall fashion (although I'm definitely looking forward to enjoying the Summer first)!

I didn't like the burgundy outfit at all either, but some of the other pieces looked nice. There was a bright dress with elbow length sleeves towards the end of the clip that caught my eye, though I will have to try it on to decide.

I haven't bought many J.Crew shoes this past year. I miss the cute heels they used to always have (rounded or peep toe, classic shape, fun colors or designs, bow or jewel accents). I'm done with all of these cut out chunky heels with excessive straps and buckles.

  4. Note to Jenna: California is not stylistically homogeneous, with blonde Baywatch Barbie-types all over the place. Have you ever been to SF?

This is at least the third time I've heard her disrespect California style in an interview, and it grates.

  5. I think the biggest reason why I like the chunkier shoes is because I'm a 12-14 with small-ish feet, and more delicate shoes make me feel like Miss Piggy en pointe. :) I'm also only 5'4" and I love the added height I get from platforms. But I don't like thick platforms, I need them to be less than 1". I also don't like the many-straps style, though I made an exception for the Loxley pumps which look less dominatrix on the foot than in the pictures on the web site.

  6. O/T but a nice article on Crystal Renn in the Daily Mail ...

  7. Does anyone know about the CFDA collaborations the host mentions at the end of the video?

  8. The article about Crystal Renn is great! I love her viewpoint! Each individual woman should be the weight that feels best for her. It's just as absurd to expect all women to be thin as it is to expect that all men should be muscle-bound weightlifter types! It's not just going to happen for most men, and those who try are in for a grueling regimine that can never cease. I had to engage in punishing exercise and food deprivation in order to be 120 pounds which is supposed to be "normal" for my height, and I was absolutely miserable and also developed a serious eating disorder that took years to resolve. I weigh considerably more now and I'm so much happier and healthier. I might occasionally wish that I were thinner, just as I might wish that I were 5'8" and had a perma-tan :), but it's just not going to happen so I don't fret about it. Long ago I figured out what really makes me happy, and it's not eating lettuce. :) (It's my beautiful husband, travelling, working hard, old houses, the arts, learning things, and great food.)

  9. Oh, Tamara, I'm right there w/ya on the pointy shoes thing. Similarly sized as you and the pointy shoes are just not a good look for me.

  10. Also kitten heels. Nothing makes my feet look smaller and my body look bigger than a teeny weeny kitten heel. :) Here's another reason I don't like pointed toes: they hurt! I remember the days when I wore more formal clothing and shoes to work, the pointed toed shoes gave me too many pump bumps that took a long time to go away.

  12. tamara, how did you get rid of the retrocalcaneal bursitis aka pump bump? I am dealing with that now and it is a killer.

  13. Ohhh, I was using the wrong term. I had bumps on the tops of my toes. It took a couple of years of wearing shoes that reduced or eliminated the friction on my toes for them to go away. But they weren't bone deformities. My sister had bone deformities on her feet near her big toes from wearing pointed-toed high-heeled shoes so much, she had surgery to correct it.

  14. tamara, I was kinda wondering how pointy-toed shoes would give you a pump bump but I thought perhaps they were causing pressure at the heel, which could happen if they are too tight. I may have to have surgery if the treatment plan doesn't rectify the problem. I'm terrified because it is risky, the achilles tendon can be permanently damaged and recovery is long and painful. I'm not even buying a single new pair of shoes because I may be relegated to orthopedic grandma shoes for the rest of my life. Wah!

Sorry if that is TMI but I am pretty bummed about it. :(

  15. I would be so bummed too. :( I remember my sister had to be off of her feet for several weeks, I don't think that her bumps by her toes created the kind of complexity and risk as the bumps at the heels. Do summer shoes make it a little easier for you? I like the anklewrap sandals where the wrap occurs over the top of the foot instead of above the heel. I have plantar fasciitis, very mild now but it flared up winter 2009-2010 and it was super painful. I remember one day I was out running errands at lunch and I wasn't sure I'd be able to walk 3 blocks back to the office! Every day I'd get out of bed and barely be able to walk. That took a long time to heal. Feet problems are awful!

  16. tamara, summer shoes are easier because I can totally take pressure off the heel with backless shoes and I have orthotics on the way that should help as well. No more tight shoes for me. I've heard that plantar fasciitis is really painful. Good that you are able to get it under control. It's so true, foot pain is awful.

  17. The ad on this video keeps ramping up everytime I log onto JCA. Maybe the video should be removed now?

  18. American Observer, not trying to tell you what to do, but your post brings up the issue of control when using a browser. I use Firefox for most of my internet use and Adobe Flash isn't installed (I also have 3rd party cookies automatically denied and I use AdBlock Plus), so I'm not forced to watch things I don't want to watch. I have Firefox configured to remove everything when I close out all of my Firefox windows. That doesn't help those of you who retain items in your shopping carts, but an alternative to that is bookmarks. When I absolutely need Adobe Flash I fire up IE. I highly recommend this setup for everyone.
