This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

$68.00 Item# 33747
I'm old enough to call this my flashdance sweatshirt. I was coveting a very similar item from Dries but wasn’t going to spend $275--this is so close and a great price. Runs super large but I don’t think it has been prewashed (it still has fuzzy, soft insides) so it will likely shrink.
OT but tissue turtlenecks were $10 off in the JC b&m today along with 20% off outerwear.
Has anyone tried on the new cashmere sweater dresses? Really curious as to how they fit. I'm normally a small/4 in dresses, but usually take a medium in sweaters, due to a large bust. So... I'm wondering if I should order a small or medium. Thank you in advance!
ReplyDeleteI love, love my bronzed ochre double-serge pencil skirt. Even if you do not think that you are a "mustard" person (I was sure that I wasn't), consider giving this one a try. The color looks great with everything!
ReplyDeleteI know that some have expressed concern that this year's pencil skirts are of lesser quality than those of previous years. I haven't noticed a quality problem, though this year's is a full inch smaller in the hips than last year's. As to fit, this year's version has a true waistband and a back zipper, which is a better fit for my hourglass figure than last year's model.
Wondering if anyone has tried the Esme Satin Platform Pumps now on sale. I needed a 9.5 in the Coddington and wondered if the fit is the same. Also would love to know if anyone has tried the drapey sequin tee. TIA!
ReplyDeleteI just received my J. Crew order!
ReplyDeletearrow sweater (I keep wanting to call it the arrowhead sweater for some reason) - I bought it on sale in black - love it. 100% merino, feels very nice, so far no pilling. Fit is great, I fluctuate between extra small mostly, to small - I went with an XS and it fits perfect.
sasha coat in glen plaid - cute! really happy with it, I went with a size 2 and it fits great in the shoulders, love the cute fit - somewhat boxy, but flattering and will have no issues with layering. Definitely worth the sale price.
stadium cloth navy peacoat with gold buttons - love this! so pretty. No pilling - so far so good - stadium cloth feels very soft and luxurious to me. I went with a size 4 (sized up from usual size 2 per JCA suggestions) and it fits perfect, great in shoulders and still room to layer. Love.
the studded ballet flats in grey - I love these. SO SO happy with them. The leather is very soft and feels well made, fits true to size. Seems comfy so far!
the sherpa hoodie - soo cute. so warm. love. the warm taupe is a pinky-taupe color. I like it but would have bought the army green color if it had been out when I first ordered. Size up to a small and it's perfect everywhere.
the microspun cowl neck tee - not very thrilled with this, it is very thin (obviously) and a little see through, the sleeves fit strangely and I feel like they are too short and ride up. Not a fan. But I live in china so sending it back will be a pain. I bought it in my usual XS, maybe a Small would have fixed the sleeve problem.
Also just wanted to add I bought some gap body long sleeve tees - they are great for layering and the sleeves and body part do not ride up like my j Crew perfect fit long sleeves do... highly prefer the gap's!
overall super happy with my purchases!
Subscribing. :)

ReplyDeleteHexicon, I SO agree - I think my bronzed ochre double serge is the favorite pencil skirt in my closet. It's not a color I'd wear near my face, but it is practically a neutral and goes with everything.
ReplyDeleteWool flannel Annie vest (30862) - This had no shape to it (IMO) and although there were three rows of buttons, no buttonholes for the top two...which is what I wanted to button immediately after trying it on just to give it a little bit of shape. Also, the back panel was so thin (like, tissue tee thin) that the wool front panels just weighed everything down. Not for me. Also, it was tough to get a feel for what this would look like based on the model pic.

ReplyDeleteAgree on the ochre pencil skirt! Love the color!
ReplyDeleteI am also loving the nightfall color as well. Both were great buys!
Totally agree with you ladies on the double-serge ochre pencil skirt. Hexicon is right that it is much smaller through the hips and waist than last year's skirts. I took a size 2 in the perfect pencil skirts from last year but the 2 in the double serge this year was much smaller. Go with your usual size in this one!
ReplyDeleteAlso...would love to see some IRL pics of the double serge in Nightfall. Would anyone be willing to share if they've bought this skirt?
ReplyDeleteThose of you with this year's perfect pencil skirt, can you comment on the weight of the wool? I have the plum and cinnamon colors from last year. Is the wool weave this year a bit lighter? It looks like it is on my monitor.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of trying some of JC's tights.... any opinions/suggestions? I am trying to find some that don't 'cut in' so much at the waist - which looks terrible especially after just having a baby and with sweater dresses! Maybe other brands that you like? Thanks in advance!
ReplyDeleteLindsey, I would go with higher-waisted styles so you can pull them up to right under your bust to give you a smooth silhouette rather than the muffin top problem. I recommend spanx tights--they have some nice patterned ones. AT sells them now and they are currently running a 30% off promotion when you buy 3 items.
ReplyDeleteOT, lastcall.com, which is neiman marcus's clearance website, is having an additional 30-50% off the entire site (which is stuff already marked down as much as 50%), plus free shipping on any order, so there are some serious deals to be had on cashmere sweaters, cold weather accessories, etc. etc. Nice if you want to stock up on holiday gifts.
Desert flower, I think the wool weight is the same this year as last year. Some people have mentioned that they are lower quality, but I think they mean the inside/lining details.
ReplyDeleteMy review this week is the coddington suede pumps. I really am not into the platform trend, but the red color is just perfect so I had to try them. I sized up and they fit my toes but slip off in the back, even with an insert, so I think I will probably have to return them. I may try my regular size but have a feeling they will squish my toes. I also feel really teetering in them because the heel is so high. Does anyone else feel like they might step in a pothole and break their ankle in these high platform styles?
I don't want to jinx anything, but I recently bought a cashmere crewneck cardigan in Warm Honey. I've worn it about three times, and it has not pilled yet. In fact, compared to a cardigan from last year, I think it's a better quality than last year's cashmere. I hope so!
ReplyDeleteAs for the color, it's fantastic! Warm Honey looks great with maroons, plums, and a great bluish green scarf I got at Ann Taylor.
Desert Flower: Do you mean the double-serge skirts for this year? There isn't a Perfect Pencil version for this year (yet..would love for them to come out with one in other colors!) The double-serge material is a little less thick than the PP from last year, and imo it is a little smoother. I don't consider the quality of the double-serge lacking from the pencil skirts I got last fall. HTH!
ReplyDeleteLindsey B, I have several pairs of JC tights and I like them. Got them all on sale, I would not pay more than $12. They are pretty comfy and the waistband is not tight on me but they have practically no support, so keep in mind that they will not act as shapers. I get them mostly for colors. I am 5'7", 30" waist, 36" hip, 33" inseam and I got them mostly in M-L but some of them I got in smaller size to avoid slight bunching up at ankles. They held up great and I wear them all the time.
ReplyDeleteCass, thank you very much. Now I am left drooling on that NM site. I could go nuts there. ;)
ReplyDeleteOT, but Gigi has dedicated weekly Talbots entry here for those of you who would like to review your Talbots purchases. Alexis and Gigi I hope you don't mind but I know I sometimes wanted to share but did not wanted to be completely OT here.
ReplyDeleteStadium-cloth peacoat:
ReplyDeleteI got this in dark fatigue and couldn't be happier. This is a classic, well-made peacoat with clean lines and a beautiful silouette. There is a preppy and easy feeling. Just the right amount of warmth. Love the color. I'm between 4 and 6 in coats. At first I got a size 4 and it was a bit too tight. I exchanged for a 6 and it fits perfectly (one of those cases where a bigger size actually makes you look slimmer, because it hangs better, if you know what I mean). I bought the coat during the 20% off coats promo and a 20% off coupon. I think this coat will get a lot of wear. Thank you J Crew!
AppGal, yes I meant the double serge. Thanks for reading my mind :) I thought it seemed a bit smoother and less thick. Thanks for confirming.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried calling CS and using a free ship code with the promo? Any luck. I haven't had any so far.
ReplyDeleteMy order arrived Friday - love opening that big box :)
ReplyDeleteMonday's Look:
Toothpick Cord, Dusty Cedar
Gossamer Wool Tee, Heather Grey
Delmy Zip Vest, Charcoal
Love the cords. Very toothpick, fits like a legging. Wore it with flat boots.
Gossamer Tee does not fit like the photo at all. But, I like it. It stretches out and is very drapey by days end, but the feel is nice.
Delmy Zip Vest is a keeper! Completely pulls an outfit together without even trying. Takes a tee and cords to the next level.
Tuesday's Look:
Cadette Pant, Heather Surplus
Vintage Sequin Henley, Charcoal
Lindy Platform, Black
Crystal Chain Bracelet, Gunmetal
Cadette has a very sexy fit! I have been down on JCrew pants for a while, did not like the fit on any of them. These fit perfectly through the seat, hip, thigh, all the way down to the slim ankle. I was worried the extra zips and pockets would add bulk - they do not. Fabric has no stretch, feels like your favorite thick flannel sheet.
Henley is an easy way to add a little sparkle. Like the fabric.
Shoes are hot. Heel looks surprisingly tall, but the platform balances it out. We will have to see how they wear... my last platforms cracked through the last.
Bracelet, very sparkly, very chunky. I <3 it.
That is all I've tried on/worn so far... I will let you know about the rest!
Just curious if anyone can comment on the Stadium-Cloth Boulevard Trench -- I'm looking at it in black, but I haven't seen it at the B&M stores yet.
ReplyDeleteAlso curious about the Moto Pants and the Cashmere Cowlneck Sweater (the description says that it hits at the hip, but the pic makes it look a bit longer, which would be my preference).
TIA!
Sorry for my mega long post before! Has anyone been able to pull off the Drapey drawstring short with tights IRL? I like it but I'm timid...
ReplyDeleteI know a few people have reviewed the blazecoat, but I'll throw in my two cents - I ordered it during the promo in the light gray in my usual 4 and it really runs big. I exchanged for a 2 in store, much better. As some have noted, this is a nice "different" option if you already have a trench, etc.
ReplyDeleteI also have the alpaca tirette sweater. I really like this as a light jacket. Also runs big, I sized down to an xs. I've worn it twice, no pilling yet.
Short Icon Trench in warm taupe. It's a Collection item and it came in a hanger. The fit is tts but the color is a bit darker than what's show online. My guess is anything taken with flash in the studio appears lighter than actual color. So the reasons why it's going back is that I think I received a defective item. With mine the outer stitching along the shoulder (do a close up online) is uneven and one side it's actually a bit unraveled. I like it worn like the model did on the website, but my main issue with the fit is the back flap that does not stay down. There is no button like some trenches to hold the flap down so when I wear it and stand straight the back flaps open real wide. I'm not sure if this is just with the one I received but I guess it happens with the long Icon trench (check out the side profile on website). Call me OCD, but things like this irritate me and I don't want to be fidgeting with my clothing. Other than that I love the details such as leather buckles and inner lining.
ReplyDeletexoxo: I'm glad you're wearing yours a lot lately. I'm tempted to give it another try with the khaki color and maybe a size down? I might talk to the CS about it. But I have my eye on a pair shoes so my funds may have to go to that. ;-)
Has anyone tried on or bought the silk jacinta vest? How is the fit?
ReplyDeleteHi NY&Paris - I think that the boulevard trench is great; in fact, I had to go "visit" mine in the B&M recently. I'd say take your regular JC coat size (and/or size up from your JC jacket size) to account for layering underneath. The 2 fit, but if I wore anything slightly bulky underneath it would look ridiculous. I love trenches and really want to add this one to my coat collection, but am concerned about pilling. :\
ReplyDeleteI have tried on in store or ordered the double serge skirt in several different colors this year and was pretty unimpressed.
ReplyDeleteThe fabric is the same as past years. I have several jackets, coats and skirts out of this fabric and have noticed that the thickness has always varied substantially among the different colors. For example, my camel and grey maggies feel and look a little different with the camel being a tiny bit smoother and thinner.
My quality issue was with the waistband. Usually a waistband ist stitched together at the bottom of the waistband where these were left loose. My vintage wisteria one wouldn't lay flat and the lining kept inching out the top of the skirt when I was just trying it on. The light grey I tried on in store had the same issue. Also, I ordered a 6 in the carbon and wisteria and they were huge, much larger than last year's version in the same size.
I am glad they work for some of you, but I was extremely disappointed after the 2008 and 2009 versions.
However, I was very impressed with the striped serge one. It ran tts and was constructed very well.
Really need advice on the Gemini Tote- with the coupon code and shipping it's 260ish, but is it worth it? I'm looking for a nice versatile big leather bag big enough for a macbook pro (13") a pair of shoes and day to day purse type stuff for my commute and flying... Ack! Advice? Thoughts?
ReplyDelete@NY&Paris – I second silver_lining on the new Boulevard trench. It’s a fabulous coat, I wasn’t a big fan of this fall’s JCREW offering on coats due to their use on the rather thin material (e.g. Double cloth Bon-Bon coat, which I gave a rather negative review on last week’s entry because I thought the coat is really thin, but it’s really just a personal preference) and I do not own any of the “stadium-cloth” coats from last fall to compare, but I would say the new Boulevard trench is a very pleasant surprise. I tried on the sand/saddle (?) color which is more of a warm beige color in real life rather than ivory, and the material is of substantial weight and thickness. It’s a structured coat and the fit is quite flattering, for a thick coat I was expecting it to be quite bulky but it wasn’t the case. In terms of sizing, it’s true to size but I normally size up for JC winter coats and I did the same with the Boulevard.
ReplyDeleteAlso, re: length of the coat, I haven’t measured it but I would say the store version I tried on definitely feels longer then what’s shown online. I’m 5’7 (size 12) and the coat hits me around mid-thigh.
Boulevard trench in sandstone.
ReplyDeleteOverall, a great coat. The cut is simple and classic. I took my regular size and I will be able to wear a cashmere sweater and long sleeve top under it. The stadium cloth fabric is very substantial and it feels like it would stand to the wind and cold especially that it is double breasted. For some reason, it felt thicker in sandstone that in black. I liked the finishing details, like bust shaping seems, sleeve cuffs you can turn over, the contrast color buttons and chain loop to hung it. The pocket placement and size is good and I like no epaulets. The belt loops placement is a smidge too high on me but they can be repositioned. The belt is somewhat stiff and tricky to tie. The length is just over the knee (I am 5'7").
Sandstone color is very pretty and nice neutral but it may wash you out if you are fair and blond. However, you can always wear a colorful scarf with it. If you don't like camel (I do) because it has too much yellow, it would be good alternative.
Black one is very chic and slimming but I already have too many black coats (who doesn't?).
Now I just hope this will not pill but if it does I will surely take it back as defective.
Kitsmommy, now that I take a closer look at the skirt I see what you mean.
ReplyDeleteFrom the exterior it is a "true" waistband (a separate piece of fabric), which for my figure works better than the faced, darted waist of last year's skirt. But on the interior the waistband is just a grosgrain ribbon rather than a folded or faced piece of fabric, and it's not stitched down at the waist seam the way a fabric waistband would be.
Whether this construction feature is a flaw or not might depend on one's figure type. Due to the reduced bulk at the waist and the back zip I think it hangs much better on me than last year's, and I didn't have trouble with the ribbon band flipping and the lining riding up. But, I see where it could happen. This is definitely something JCAs should look for when trying on the skirt.
I sure do love that ochre shade, and my wisteria arrives today!
What odds of finding a Dolce Tweed mini in-store in a 6 or and 8 (for length)? Has anyone seen one? Perhaps glimpsed one peeking blushingly from amidst a rack of pencil skirts?
ReplyDeleteOT: Talbots is offering their v-neck cashmere sweaters for $24.95 as part of a Today Show special. They are sold out online but if you can call and find it in a store they will ship the items for free.
ReplyDeleteIf anybody buys the Tulle & sequin cardigan, please review and/or post pics! I think it looks gorgeous and special and reminds me of a wintry ballerina, if such a thing exists... (Kind of pricey though, for sure.)
ReplyDeleteJulieStyles - Esme platforms on Slastena. Irl pics of the drapey sequin tank in this post.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the reviews of the Boulevard Trench Silver Lining and Couture! I am definitely pondering it...I actually need a new black coat, so this is definitely a consideration (just wish I had seen it with the 20% off outerwear combined with the J Crew credit card discount). I have the Ingenue Coat from last year (in sea salt), and I love that too, so I was thinking about maybe that one in black instead...but given your reviews, it sounds like the Boulevard is worth a try!
ReplyDeleteLindsey B, I agree that you should check out Spanx tights. They are wonderful. They often have them at TJ Maxx and Marshalls for $15-$25 depending on the style, making them more affordable. J.Crew tights have no support and I think they run awfully small. I mean, I wear a 6, am 5'10", and a M/L is borderline too small. I only have J.Crew tights because they marked them down to $7.99 plus 30% off last winter so I bought like 6 pairs. I treasure my one pair of Spanx tights (I know that sounds totally weird) because they are comfy and well made. And they suck you in a little which is always nice. I also (hate to admit this) like Jessica Simpson brand tights. They are actually really high quality. I bought them at Dillard's but I'm sure they sell them at other stores.
ReplyDeleteJC's got the blues right!!! Can't believe I am saying this----but now I look forward to waiting on the train platform in -1C temp.
ReplyDeleteGot the Mayfair wool-cashmere thinsulate topcoat (medium) in navy the other day.
Pros: very soft fabric; nice details with exterior ticket pocket (which I have yet to open); rich blue color-----the blueness really pop especially in bright sunshine. For me it stands out because it seems that every dept. store carry only black and grey colored topcoats; it looks very expensive more than what I paid for it; it is versatile as it looks great with my suits as well as wearing it over sweaters and jeans/cords; the length is perfect because just like GQ said, it should be slightly above the knees; the fit is a pro and a con at the same time----it fits snug just like what GQ has recommended but not tight. The medium says it fits 38-40 but I think it is more like 38-39.
Con: Like my Ludlow blazer, it fits slim and although I have a 32-31 inch waist, I feel that the fit leaves little room for weight gain.
Overall, I absolutely love my JC topcoat-----superb clothes for my clothes.
Has anyone tried the Dream turtleneck (item #28200)? The colors look heavenly, and the price is much easier to swallow than potentially questionable cashmere. I know there have been some complaints about other Dream items this year - not sure if those apply to the turtleneck, too.
ReplyDeleteAlso, received a Plaza coat in the sea salt color last Friday. I ordered it during the summer on an extra 30% off promo and it was backordered until now. Instead of sending an old version that had been languishing in a warehouse, they sent this season's version. It seems to be pretty substantial, fits TTS rather than large, and the lining is nice. Not sure I would pay $325 for it, but for the price I got, it's a keeper.
One more question - has anyone seem anything in the tavern green color IRL?
Hey, did some irl reviews of the gingham sundrine flannel shirtdress, the double cloth ingenue coat, the tweedette dress (yes, someone actually owns it!), and the tilly two-tone satin platform heels.
ReplyDeleteFor those of you all interested in soundbites, sundrine dress is nice, comfortable, and if styled right can look decent, not like farmer/grunge wear. Definitely great for us moms on the go. Get your J. Crew dress size. Ingenue coat is lovely, warm (but not stadium cloth warm), and chic. Not stuffy, though, definitely can be worn with jeans as well as nice cocktail dresses. Go with your normal double-cloth coat size (should match your dress size). Tweedette dress is really surprising. The more I worked the neckline to my liking, the more I liked it on me. That said, it isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, and that's okay. Go with your dress size, but if you want exact measurements, Net-A-Porter has them listed under their name for this dress, The Luna Mixy Silk and Wool Dress (huh?). The Tilly heels are very elegant, well-made, and at their current price, a decent buy (but definitely not at their original price). Go with your normal J. Crew heels size, but those of you with wider feet may want to size up.
Hope that helps some of you!

So my wisteria double-serge pencil skirt arrived today. The color is a lot different than I expected--rather than being "pink" it is an earthier color, more of a light brownish maroon.
ReplyDeleteFor example, it harmonizes with my factory paisley Kelsey (pumpkin/purple/gold) but IMO clashes with other pinks in both warmer tones (paisley Pilar cami) and cooler tones (watercolor Potpourri scarf.
This could turn out to be a nice neutral, but I'm a little disappointed that the color is different. This has happened to me a few times lately so maybe it's my
monitor, LOL.
jcrewphd, it sounds like your short icon trench has defective stitching so definitely return it. As for whether to buy another or go for the shoes, well, only you know which is the best choice. ;^)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the back flap standing away from the coat. I think that's intentional since it's usually your shoulders that get the wettest and the flap keeps the wet part of the coat away from your body. If you don't like the look of it and you don't need a real rain coat then it's probably going to bother you constantly. The flap is double-layered so you (or a tailor) could tack it down to the back seam on the underside and no one would know. Of course, if you're going to spend more money or time to make it perfect, you should be pretty happy with everything else about it.
Lindsey B., J.Crew tights are made in Italy and are very good quality IMO. They don't have a control top or leg shaping but they are comfortable and wear very well if you wash in a lingerie bag with mild soap and hang to dry. I find them TTS - I wear a 4/6 bottom and take a S/M in J.Crew tights. Love the color choices, especially coordinating with J.Crew skirts. J.Crew's wool-blend (60% nylon, 35% wool, 5% spandex) tights are very soft and quite warm. Also made in Italy, they wear well and are sized the same as the regular tights.
ReplyDeleteThe very best are Wolford, hands-down, but you will pay for the quality. Wolford are made in Austria. They fit like a dream, make your legs look divine and are extremely comfortable and soft to the touch. If you plan to wear tights often or for a dressy occasion then splurging on a pair may be worth it.
Hue are also good quality tights that have a little more snapback to them than J.Crew's. They are made in U.S.A. and seem to be often on promo - buy one get one 50% off. Nice color choices and comfortable fit, these are my go-to tights for everyday just because I stock up during the promos and always have several new pairs on hand.
Victoria's Secret tights used to be good but I haven't bought them in a few years. They were made in U.S.A. and fit well with a fairly high lycra content. Colors are not necessarily on-trend but you can get some basics and the occasional bright shade on clearance from time to time.
I find the best, outside of Wolford, are made in Italy, next best is made in U.S.A. and the lowest quality are made in China. Quality affects how they fit to your body and of course how they wear both in comfort and appearance.
Sorry for the long post. I wear tights almost every day from September to April so I hope that helps.
Any reviews of the Trouper Pant?
ReplyDeleteI received the drapey sequin tee in heirloom pink today.... color is beautiful! Unfortunately I found it to run small, and I could feel the sequins against my skin. It was like a prickly feeling, which I didn't like at all. I think if the tee was a bit thicker/more substantial, this wouldn't have been an issue. I'm returning it.
ReplyDeleteI got my Jackies this week in Henna and Dark Pewter. Love them both! Henna, as others have stated is not really a red, but more a red-brown. I love it. Its a great color- if you want something a bit different. Also the Dark Pewter is a great alternative to black. Both Jackies fit true to size. I normally get a medium and these fit like they have always fit.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried the Muse tank? (32367) I would love to hear any thoughts on the fit, quality, etc
ReplyDeleteXoxo, I bought the trouper pant in both colors. Love the slim leg and that they don't get all stretched out and baggy during the day. I wear either a 2 or 4 in jcrew pants - wear a 2 in most of the pants because of the stretching issue. Bought a 4 in the trouper at the suggestion of my PS and they fit great. I am only 5'3" and they are a little long on me, but still look ok. They are great with both the short Britten and Short motorcycle boots!
ReplyDelete@xoxo
ReplyDeleteDid a quick look at Wolford. I'm interested. I'm a Canadian. Do you have any suggestions where I can purchase their products?
Thanks
This is an older item. I got the marled Thandie blazer today. It was on sale and with a code I got it for $39 plus free ship. Still not going to keep it. It does fit well through the body and looks good buttoned and unbuttoned. My torso is long though and I find the jacket looks like it's simply too short for me. Not flattering. Also, although the color is heather graphite which I take to mean grey, it is actually a denim blue color. Not bad, just not what I expected. The raw edges are actually rather cool. If the jacket were longer, I would keep it. It hits me about an inch above the hip.
ReplyDeleteJust received the sequin drapey tee in pewter. It is major bling--almost blinding! It's pretty but I would feel odd wearing it to anything other than a fancy occasion. I think if you want more versatility go for the tank; the skin of your arms will break up the sequins so they are not overwhelming. I also agree with Marietta that it is prickly.
ReplyDeleteAlso got the double serge skirt in the nightfall blue. It looked navy on my monitor but IRL is a gorgeous dark teal. It looks nice with a heather gray cardi--my only problem is that I hate black tights/boots or shoes with it--looks like bruise combo colors. I don't really have any other shoes I like with it and may end up returning it because I don't feel like buying new tights/shoes just to go with one skirt. If anyone has any other ideas let me know. :)
ajc- Thanks for dropping my Talbot's link. I meant to do it in a thread where there was lots of Tal talk and I forgot.
ReplyDeleteHexicon - I ordered the vintage wisteria (wool pencil) twice. I finally have the right size coming to me (P6). You are right that the skirt doesn't go w/the pilar and I can't explain why. There's something about the darkest pink in the pilar that clashes w/the vintage wisteria. Oh well. It's such a beautiful skirt. I'll be keeping it provided the P6 works.
Michele D, thanks for the review of the Trouper pant. I like the look and missed out on the non-J.Crew Houlihan's so hope these can provide a similar look.
ReplyDeleteBelle de jour, we have a Wolford B&M where I live so I buy the tights there or when I am travelling as there are Wolford stores in larger U.S. cities and in some European department stores. If you don't have access to a B&M then try Bergdorf online. Hope that helps!
Does anyone own the Glitter jacquard ballet flats that can review them? They are on sale in store for $69.99 so I'm thinking about it....
ReplyDeleteOT but arrow sweater marked down to I think $89.99 or $79.99 in store I know a lot of you love this one so wanted to share!
ReplyDeletealpaca tirette sweater was marked down tonight too I believe to $99.99 thanks!
ReplyDeleteCass, would dark gray tights work with the nightfall blue? Gray can be quite versatile so you wouldn't necessarily be limited to just the nightfall skirt. Gray can work with black and almost anything with a blue undertone and you could still wear black shoes if that is what you prefer.
ReplyDeleteDesert Flower, I love your new photo. Reminds me of the giraffe necklace. I've worn mine a couple of times now and always think of your rave reviews when I do. It's not a piece I would normally choose but it does garner compliments and feels really special so I'm glad I took your advice to try it out. :^)
Cass, I agree with XOXO, a grey shade would be great with that skirt. How about a rich coffee color? That would be awesome. Depending how conservative your or your workplace is you could do plum or a mossy green.
ReplyDeleteXOXO, the new pic is the frog necklace. I wear both it and my giraffe a lot. You are right, the giraffe never fails to get compliments. I'm glad you love it!
And dream zip sweater is $69.99 in store! Hth!
ReplyDeleteHello, my name is xoxo and I'm a thread hog. :^P
ReplyDeleteHere's my review of the Super 120s pinstripe banquette dress.
Wore this for the second time today and I really love it. The fabric does not stretch like last year's version but the cut and seaming make it very comfortable. The fabric is silky 120's wool with a subtle, yet distinct pinstripe. I was in a full-day session with a visiting GM and before/after meetings that added up to a 14-hour day and there was minimal wrinkling when I finally returned home.
The neckline is low so I wore an ascot-tied oblong silk scarf and tucked it into the neckline to cover cleavage. A cami would be another option that I haven't tried with any of the Banquette dresses yet as I enjoy wearing scarves and have many. Love this dress and will wear it for years to come. Classic, feminine, yet all business, a real confidence booster. Worth it at full price and it's still available in all sizes so may end up discounted eventually. If you want to expand your work wardrobe and can work around the lower-cut neckline then keep an eye on this one.
Hello Ladies - Yes I also received the drapey sequin tee today and I ordered them in all the colors:
ReplyDelete1) Pewter - Holy cow, like someone mentioned earlier, it is REALLY shiny and "bling", the sequins are all made of shiny silvery color, I had a Michael Jackson moment. The top is very beautiful but it was just a little too loud for me. I also don't think this is a sequin top that can be dressed down for day time.
2) Heirloom Pink - Not as bling as Pewter, still shiny but I feel that this color is a little more manageable, unfortunately the color does seem a little too washed out, especially for Fall.
3) Shadow - My favorite among the 3 colors. Also the sequin on this is different then the other 2, they are less shiny, almost "matt" like and its the same color as the shirt, compare with the other 2 color, this one definitely feels a lot more toned down.
BUT I am returning all 3 because I agree with the other JCA reviews, this top runs a little small and restrictive, I am re-ordering for the next size up.
Belle de jour,
ReplyDeleteRe: Wolford tights
There is a Wolford B&M in Toronto. They should be able to ship to you. Holt Renfrew carries them too. You could call a personal shopper there and have them sent to you. Hope that helps...
Ques on the Sherpa Hoodie - Did previous years' versions have the sherpa lining also in the sleeves? This year its just in the hood and body of the jacket - not in the sleeves of pockets.
ReplyDeleteAs mimi.magnolia posted, the long back ordered plaza coats finally shipped and they're marked "HOL 10." Mine is camel and I really like it. It was definitely an amazing deal. I also recently received my back ordered navy blue stadium cloth boulevard trench from the same promotion and it's also marked "HOL 10." I haven't worn either coat yet, but I'm very happy with both of them.
ReplyDelete@xoxo: Thanks for explaining to me why the back flap is designed that way. Silly me, I didn't realize it was functional that way. Now it makes total sense. ;-) And I see how it can be stitched in to keep it down.
ReplyDeleteSince it doesn't rain much here it doesn't make sense to keep it. I do like the trench style and will most likely get it if I move to a cooler place.
@MsHark: I have the Sherpa hoodie from last year and only the body is lined. I see now this years has the hood lined as well? It's getting my attention now. ;-)
I wore mine a lot last winter. It's quite warm especially if you wear long sleeve tee underneath.
Hexicon, I had the same experience with the Wisteria double serge skirt! I ended up returning it because it just wasn't pink enough! But I bet you can make it work. Who knows, if it ends up on $49.99 sale I might rebuy... I cannot resist the allure of the J.Crew wool pencil skirt.
ReplyDeleteMs Hark I have two older ones and the sleeves are not lined in sherpa.
ReplyDeleteThanks, xoxo and LawrenceofP. :-)
ReplyDeleteI second himmiefan on quality of the cashmere this year: I wore my cashmere zip cardigan in heather acorn four or five times now and it doesn't show any sign of wear (not a single pill). I am dreading the moment when I will actually wash it but I recently bought the Laundress cashmere wash so heere is some hope that it will still look like new.
ReplyDeleteI havr a question for those who own the tissue turtleneck in dried rose. I recently ordered it in dark rosewood but it is a little bit too plum for me. The dried rose look too pinkish on the color swatch but I ordered the bow dress for my daughter (super-cute btw) and it's a completely different shade more like the warm wisteria (love it). My question is if the tissue turtleneck color resables to the swatch or is in fact a different color. TIA!
OT question: I received my backordered wool cashmere Plaza coat and it's too big. If I take it back to the store, will they order a different size for me and honor the price I paid for it back in the summer? Pretty sure this is an online only item. It's a great classic coat for the low price I paid but now it is listed as $325!
ReplyDeleteShopalot, I believe my plaza coat was marked final sale, which might make an exchange more difficult.
ReplyDeleteWould love to hear some feedback on the Authentic Fleece blazer, especially on sizing. Size down/up/tts?
ReplyDeleteOT re: J Crew Factory Stores
ReplyDeleteThere is a J Crew Factory coupon for 20% off $125 purchase on the Chelsea Premium Outlets website. The promotion starts tomorrow, November 4th. You need to sign up for the VIP Club (it's free) to access the coupon.
I'm in full agreement about the cashmere. I've worn the 3 Elette Cardi's (one in each color) and the Zip Front Cardi in Heather Plum frequently this year. I've worn them on busy shopping trips while running errands and so far, they've all held up really well.
ReplyDeleteI remember Jenna stating a few months ago that they was something different about this year's cashmere and my gut told me it would be bad for quality but so far I'm really pleased.
I always bought a lot of cashmere, even with the pilling, and I'm thinking I'll end up buying even more this year.
Does anyone have the cambridge cable turtleneck? I received it yesterday, and I really like the fit, color, etc. (runs tts, maybe just a bit small, I like sweaters like this to be fitted so I don't look like Frosty the snowman). Hopefully won't pill.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm a bit late, but wanted to share a couple reviews. First off, I LOVE the marled Thandie blazer. LOVE IT! If you can snag it, I highly recommend you do so. It looks great casual or dressed up and it's super comfy and fits perfectly. Def. TTS. I also got the Merino Dore sweater in the "barn" color. I'm on the fence on this one. I think I'm going to keep it. I like where it hits on me- not too long, not too short. A nice basic.
ReplyDeleteOn the topic of tights, I have to say (and I have NO connection to this business whatsoever) that I just wore Boot-tights for the first time today and they are FABULOUS! - Especially for the colder climates which is where I am. I checked and they are made in USA also. They are tights but w/a thin sock-type lining on the calf and foot of the tight. Highly recommend.
I'm glad to hear people are having good luck with this year's cashmere. I bought two cashmere hoodies recently, but I haven't worn them yet so I can't comment on the quality.
ReplyDeleteOne comment about the plaza coat: the sleeves on the camel color are lined in red. It looks really pretty, but for those of us who tend to perspire easily, this could cause a color transfer problem.
Jruby18, where do you buy the boot-tights?
ReplyDeleteTIA
xoxo, I got them off their website, which I believe is Bootights.com
ReplyDeleteFinally gave in to temptation and bought the double cloth ingenue coat in dark plum because saw the stock quickly dwindling after last week's sale ended on Sunday. With 30 percent off all outerwear this week, got it for $245. Question: Will the double cloth pill less than the wool used in my J. Crew peacoat from 2009? Loved the sea salt color (looks similar to Kate Middleton's much talked about white coat), but could never keep it clean looking.
