J.Crew is offering 25% off your orders of $150+ with promo code FALLSALE. This offer expires Saturday, 11/6/10.
The fine print of the offer includes:
*Offer valid at jcrew.com only. Offer not valid at J.Crew retail stores, J.Crew Factory stores or on J.Crew Factory items. Offer does not apply to previous purchases, alterations or the purchase of gift cards. Offer not applicable to third-party branded merchandise. 25% discount applies to online orders of $150 or more before shipping, handling and taxes are added. Offer valid through Saturday, November 6, 2010, 11:59pm ET. Savings are applied at checkout with code FALLSALE. Offer not valid on phone orders. Cannot be combined with any other promotion or redeemed for cash. Limit one promotional code per order.I am happy that there is another promotion being offered. As many of you have noticed, this offer does not include free shipping. Oh well!
What are your thoughts on J.Crew's latest promotion? Do you think you will take advantage of it before it ends?
Like many of the JCA's have already stated, I won't be purchasing without free shipping. The shipping charges and taxes eat up almost all of the savings, and then you're out the shipping if you have to return (which, given the hit-or-miss quality is more likely than past seasons). Even a flat rate would be more tolerable.

ReplyDeleteNot buying without free shipping!
ReplyDeleteAnthro's free shipping is back, just saying.
Again with the no free ship???
ReplyDeleteDefinitely won't be buying without free shipping! All the savings get eaten up. :(
ReplyDeleteA,
ReplyDeleteHow does Anthro's free shipping work? Never shopped with them. THanks.
Genny,
ReplyDeleteYou sign up (you can do it online) as an anthro customer, and they link it to your email address. When you log in on the website to order, or call in, the free shipping is automatically applied. If you sign up in the store, you get a yellow anthro card (like a frequent shopper card) that also links you in.
Silly JC with their typos. What they intended this promo code to say is "FALSESALE," obviously.
ReplyDeletesilver lining said it all, without free shipping it's a loss. none for me.
ReplyDeletesilver lining said it all, without free shipping it's a loss. none for me.
ReplyDeletemimi.magnolia: LOL. SO true.
ReplyDeleteI won't order without free shipping.
ReplyDeleteMe neither. It isn't a great selection in the sale category anyway. And the items I want hasn't come back. Oh well...
ReplyDeleteJust placed a big order last Thursday. I did some math and I'd rather be able to return items at full price and not lose money on shipping than order them at discount.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't we have it both ways? Every other place I shop allows multiple discount codes!
Whoo-hoo!! I have been waiting for this one. I have a stacked shopping cart and will save much more than the shipping costs with 25% off. Will be taking a closer look through my wish list and the latest catalog and definitely pulling the trigger.
ReplyDeleteI realize it's not a great deal if you only have a $150 order but I have been holding off smaller orders specifically for the blanket % off a larger one. Yay!
mimi.magnolia: well said! ;-)
ReplyDeletexoxo: I'm glad you're getting your discount especially with all the tax/duties you have to pay to ship to Canada.
I was able to replace an order that was canceled last week (since go figures it's back in stock) and got free shipping for additional items. But I lost the Rhapsody hobo bag in gray while placing the order so whoever got it and doesn't want it I'd love to buy it from you.
It never fails...
ReplyDeleteI placed an order on Friday, finally biting the bullet on a pair of the Langford high heeled Oxford shoes and a couple other items. Even with the free shipping to Canada it was still an expensive purchase.
Very frustrating to get this morning's email about 25% off...I sure could have used that on Friday! However, I called CS to explain my situation and the lovely rep didn't even hesitate to offer to honour the discount.
Once again, I have received excellent service and am a satisfied customer with about $100 extra in my pocket.
I've got a honkin' rewards card that's burning a hole in my pocket. I'm going to take advantage of this promo, but from the red phone. I have a return to do anyhow. If I did order online, that's still a pretty good savings even with shipping added in. I just can't bring myself to pay for shipping- it goes against my principles...
ReplyDeleteNewp, not without free shipping. Damn, they must think we're stupid!
ReplyDeleteNothing I want right now. No sequins for me;)plus no free shipping makes it a no buy anyway.
ReplyDeleteSuzy,
Thanks for the Anthro. information.
Hmm...I'm undecided on this promo. I also want the Langford oxfords. Does anyone know how they fit? Can we use this code from the red phone? Might be worth the drive if I decide to pull the plug on the shoes! :)
ReplyDeleteFirst time post, but long time reader here!
ReplyDeleteI'm considering buying the stadium cloth boulevard trench, but because I haven't been able to try it on at the local B&M, I need help with sizing.
Does it fit TTS? I'm usually a medium in shirts and sweaters at JC, and take an 8 in most shirts. Of course, I fear purchasing an 8 in the trench and not being able to wear layers underneath. Of course, I also don't want a too big trench! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I think the Anthro free ship is on $150 or more. Not complaining. That promo is good thru Dec. Genny, for more info, the Anthro card is free & not a credit card. Even if you sign up online, they should send you the yellow card. It's really a massive way for them to track sales. The upside is you can use it for Anthro staff to look up returns without a receipt, which ensures you'll get the price you paid. Anytime. There is no final sale at Anthro. While we're at it, I've only had one item fail me. It shrunk in the wash and that's because *I* didn't heed the instructions.
ReplyDeleteI agree this JC promo is good for those who want to buy a load of fp items, esp big ticket ones. I still don't like the lack of free shipping, though.
I have rewards and quite a few items in my shopping bag online. I wonder if I should pop into my b&m to place the order to get FS too. Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteI have never had any luck getting them to honor an "online only" code from the red phone in order to get free ship as well. Jbird and Jruby, if it works for you please let us know!
ReplyDeleteI'm in Canada, so the 25% is great news to me! (Although free shipping would be great, too!) I've had my eye on a pair of the Britten short flat boots. Does anyone know if they are tts? I'm a size 7.5, but an 8 if the shoe is narrow. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI also have a lot of items in my cart, just waiting for a blanket promo like this one! With a large order, the shipping adds very little to the overall cost.
ReplyDeleteI pulled the trigger this morning. I used my rewards as well so it was a decent savings. It was a very glittery cart! I got the Haya Sequin Sweatshirt, a couple of the Drapey tanks, and one of the Drapey Tees and the Sweet Almond scoopneck tee. Also picked up the Black Arrow sweater, I love my Heather Elm one. Also grabbed the Sophie cardigan. I'm sure something will go back, I definitely ordered one too many glittery tops....
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't entice me; then again, there isn't anything I really want right now. Hoping the Holiday rollout (it would be this month, right?) has some pieces that make me go wow. The way j.crew's stock is performing, I'm also thinking a better promo is coming - their sales aren't exactly lighting up Wall Street.
ReplyDeleteAmy, if you e-mail Customer Service and ask for exact measurements, they will send them to you, Then you can compare with coats you already own. I have done that on numerous occasions when I cannot try the item on. They are quite good at getting back to you within a few hours. Since the jackets/blazers are a crapshoot when it comes to measurements, I ask for sizes 0, 2 and 4 and make a decision based on that.
ReplyDeletejcrewphd, the taxes/duties tacked on are about 26% so it's basically saving those charges, which can be really significant. No matter how large your Canadian order, J.Crew shipping will max out at something like $23.00 if I remember correctly. It would be nice to get free shipping too but the blanket 25% is so much better for me on this order. Getting some Christmas shopping wrapped up early, which always feels good too.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your search for the Rhapsody bag.
GigiofCA,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the additional Anthro. information. Very helpful!
In general--As far as JCrew, I would rather have free shipping b/c when I order online I almost always have returns and sometimes all items go back recently--then I am out shipping costs and that irks me--so it is free shipping and % off or free shipping b/c I just hate loosing $$$ on shipping.
heading over to my full anthro cart (that is always there, never gets wiped out, has my long wish list saved, my "save for later" list, ALL of my order history from all time, and customer reviews, and no time limit on returns...) hmmmm... I think they are on to something... and free shipping!
ReplyDeleteOff Topic: but are there any cardholders out there who are expecting a rewards card but haven't yet received it in the mail? I haven't received mine yet and I'm starting to get concerned it somehow got lost in the mail.

ReplyDeleteAmy, I just happened to chat about boulevard trench an dhere are measurements size 6 & 8:
ReplyDeleteCarissa: Chest Circumference in size 6 is 38 inches compared to size 8, which is 39 inches.
Carissa: Waist Circumference in size 6 is 35.5 inches compared to size 8, which is 36.5 inches.
Carissa: Center Back Sleeve Length in size 6 is 32.5 inches compared to size 8, which is 32.875 inches.
Carissa: Across Shoulder in size 6 is 15.5 inches compared to size 8, which is 15.75 inches.
Carissa: Center Back Length in size 6 is 37.75 inches compared to size 8, which is 38 inches.
Have anyone tried the Noelle laced up booties and can tell me how they fit?
ReplyDeletedoes anyone know if this can be used in combination with the new jcrew cardholder 20% off they are doing if you open an account as well?
ReplyDeletei've been dying for some items but if i would be able to use both i'd be that more likely to pull the trigger.
To the Canadian JCA's, to further save on shipping and handling, choose Canada Post for your shipper. You'll have to pick up the parcel at your local post office and pay for duty there, but you'll save the crazy UPS handling fee of about 10% per order. I've done this for my last 3 orders and probably saved myself a good $60-70. HTH!
ReplyDeleteHit the order button on navy peacoat. 25% should offset CDN Duties and shipping. Darn Frank why do you have to be so good: classic clothes with 21st century fit!! On with the JCrew program----clean eating + more reps (not weights) @ the gym and then take advantage of discounts like this :-)
ReplyDeleteCloset Crisis, how do you get your duty refunded if you ship with Canada Post and then return items?
ReplyDeleteMakeupandpearls...typically they don't let you combine a code with the cardholder %. I found this out the hard way because I typically only buy on % off sales. They do allow a combination on the "price as marked" type sales.
ReplyDeleteI recommend you call them though. Since you would be combining the day you open the account, they might be more willing to do it.
@xoxo: I've never had to do it, but there's a form/receipt that the post office gives you when you pay your duty, so if you have to do a refund, I assume you'd return the item first and attach the credit note as confirmation that the return was processed and file it with Customs (no different than shipping with UPS/broker except the broker does it FOR you).
ReplyDeleteSo if you're just ordering stuff to try on, or if you think you have a good chance of returning the item, then order with UPS ship.
Knock wood, I haven't had to return anything on my last few orders so the Canada Post method has worked for me.
I want the Langford high-heeled oxfords as well. I might be ready to get them with this promotion and my rewards card. I, too, would appreciate any comments that anyone has on these. Do they run TTS, small or large? I am between a 6 and a 6 1/2 so. Thanks for any input.
ReplyDelete@ Pink Maple
ReplyDeleteI'm a cardholder in California and haven't received a reward card yet. I *should* be getting one, but so far nothing. I'm not terribly concerned at this point, but if I still don't have anything by the end of this week, I'd probably call CS.
Closet Crisis, do you find that delivery is much slower when you select Canada Post, however?
ReplyDeleteAlso sort of OT again, WSJ has an article on casual dressing for formal events. It features Jenna Lyons and Marissa Webb on their laid back approach to dressing for formal events -- interesting insight to J Crew's philosophy and styling of late.
ReplyDeleteCC,thanks for the tip. The last couple of orders I used Canada Post and had them delivered to my office.
ReplyDeleteAgree with most of you on no free shipping, I’ve learned that the only way I’ll ever bite with a promo without free shipping is when you want to purchase the big ticket item such as winter coats, or a big order with multiple items value over $300 that you know for sure you won’t return, or combine your shopping with a friend and split the shipping cost. Otherwise, to buy a few tees and sweaters here and there to get to $150 on top of dishing out $17 for shipping is just ridiculous. Especially if you are unsure about some of the items and having to end up returning them, you might as well flush the dollar bills down the toilet.
ReplyDeleteWhy isn’t JCREW learning from BR, GAP or Bluefly? Maybe offer standard shipping rates ($7 to $10) no matter how much or how many you buy along with a % off promo, OR offer JC card holder free shipping along promo, OR occasionally offer special shipping rates ($2) for a period of time. I think either of these options will motivate me and gives me more incentive to buy.
I mean even high-end stores such as Neiman or Saks offers free shipping almost all the time, I thought JCREW was gonna go the “high-end” route (insert sarcasm here).
@LKlovestoshop: no difference. Still averages about 7-10 business days.
ReplyDelete@Rose: I use to be able to ship packages to my old office (the receptionist there is a real cool gal) but not to this office. One more reason for me to lean towards CP because the post office is just around the corner from my place, whereas UPS is halfway across town.
ReplyDeleteWRT the Langford high-heeled Oxfords, I read someplace (possibly on this blog?) that they ran a bit small, so I ordered a size 8, up from my real size of 7.5. I've found I need to take an 8 in JC heels, whereas I'm a 7 or 7.5 in flat boots and ballet flats.
ReplyDeleteHTH!
rtfit,
ReplyDeleteis the more reps, less weight so you don't bulk up so you can fit into the JC clothes? JC men's clothes don't fit big guys!
Hi everyone,
ReplyDeleteI hope this is okay to post in here. I signed up for a j crew card and got a coupon for FREE SHIPPING ON ORDERS OVER $100. It expires this Friday, Nov 5, and I'm not planning on using it. If someone would like the code from me just e-mail me at brianneconnolly@gmail.com. I'll give it to the first person interested. That way someone can get some use out of it!
I've been eyeing the new cashmere sweater dress, and am wondering if anyone has bought it yet??
ReplyDeleteCass, I think JCrew men's clothes fit great for slim guys like me (5'11, 154 lbs.). Having said that the clothes I recently bought like the medium topcoat and the Ludlow blue blazer in 38R tapers my waist. They're great because it calls attention to my midsection but there is hardly room for 'error' like a chocolate parfait or banana split.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if the Jericho Tote has long enough straps to go over your shoulder and is it as nice as it looks? Thanks!
ReplyDeletesub
ReplyDeleteIn case anyone was wondering, I emailed CS this morning to see if you can use the FALLSALE promo with the Red Phone. Their answer (paraphrased): Nope.
ReplyDeleteJust got the November cat. in the mail. Looks like it was shot in a drab office waiting room with moving boxes in the background. Utterly charmless. What a letdown compared to the Nov. 2007 cat., for example.
ReplyDeleteCC, thanks for the tip. Will try Canada Post next time.
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody else find it hilarious that JC is now selling a sweater comb?
ReplyDeletesilly me, I thought we were meant to use the $100 tweezers to groom the sweaters...
ReplyDeleteDitto, likely sale is not that great with no free shipping....
ReplyDelete@ Carnivore Girl: Thanks! I emailed CS today and they replied that everyone should likely receive their rewards cards by the end of the week. Although the CS rep said that if I wanted to buy something now with my rewards they could look up the number if I do a phone order.
ReplyDeleteI have been hawking J. Crew for a sale decent enough for me to justify purchasing a few seriously over-priced items. While this promotion almost made me cough up the money, it was close.....but no cigar :( . The only thing that kept me from pulling the trigger was that the promotion did not include free shipping. So, until there is a similar offer that includes free shipping, I will clench my pennies until J. Crew successfully earns it or another retailer wins me over.
ReplyDeleteLOL at the sweater comb!
ReplyDeleteI can't seem to pry open my wallet for this one. I realize that sounds pretty silly, given how much I was agitating for % off or a cardholder offer, but I'm not in the mood for a large-ish purchase right now.
Often I think I would buy more IF JC offered everyday free ship/no-minimum than with these discount offers that provide a % off but have a high minimum and no free shipping. Sometimes I just want to buy myself a little treat at the end of a long week or grab a pop-back when I see it, but the high ship costs deter small individual purchases like that. If I save up my cart waiting for a code, not only do I risk losing my sale items but there is also the psychological burden of the large lump sum expediture. Given JC quality issues as well as spending constraints, it's hard for me to spend a chunk of change at once. I know that isn't 100% rational, because $200 is $200, whether it's a single purchase or four $50 purchases, but that seems to be the way I'm shopping right now.
Maybe I'll change my mind by the end of the week--I wonder if we'll see any updates to the sale section.
I would have totally gone for this, but not without free shipping. It's a shame. I bet J.Crew lost a ton of business they could have had if they included the free ship.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the J.Crew sweater comb, I bought a similar sweater comb a couple years ago. Last winter I had it laying on the table when one of our renovation contractors picked it up and asked what I was doing with drywall screen wrapped in plastic. He said it was drywall sanding screen and I went to the local hardware store to compare and sure enough, it is. I thought I'd make my own sweater comb with drywall screen but I found that using one of the cheap, light pumice stones worked just as well and they only cost a buck. Can't believe J.Crew/the Laundress is selling the comb for $18. Probably worth less than a dollar in materials and labour. What a gouge.
ReplyDeleteI did purchase a coat for my husband... he desperately needs one and with a large purchase like that we still saved about 55 dollars, despite their INSANE $17.50 shipping.
ReplyDeletexoxo: the tax/duties charged on your orders are ridiculous and makes my 9.75% sales tax look like nothing to complain about. ;-)
ReplyDeleteSo, I did receive my Short Icon trench but I'll leave the review for the appropriate post this week. For several reasons sadly it will be going back though...
I'm going to have to get that pumice stone at my local Walmart. I'm in need of some sweater trimming.
silver_lining and wff: your comments always make me smile! :-D
Pass! There's not a thing I'm craving, haven't checked the website in over a week and am pretty bored w/Fall this year. Thanks for curing my addiction (for now) JCrew. I can only try so many things before I end up disappointed and stop trying.
ReplyDeleteY'all have a great time shopping...I'm holding out for Spring!
I was able to get price matched for Boulevard trench and order Noelle booties on the red phone with 25% applied and free shipping. My SA just said 'there is 25% online, I think the code is FALLSALE' and they apllied it without any questions.
ReplyDeleteIf I couldn't get free shipping I would rather get the coat with 20% they had in store. Same for the shoes, since I couldn't try them on, it is quite likely they they will not fit or be uncomfortable so if I had to return I would have paid 18.5 for trying them on. NO WAY.
I know it is the luck of the draw and it should not be that way but if you live near B&M I think it is worth trying.
@Pink maple and Carnivore Girl: I'm in the Bay Area and still haven't received mine either. Not too worried yet. I got an email saying it was on its way on Friday so I'd give them a few more days.
ReplyDeleteI placed a red phone order tonight and the promo was applied with no issue, so definitely ask if you live near a store.
ReplyDeleteI did order the drapey sequin tee for me and a bunch of fun crewcuts items for the kids with the promo. Check out this 'wild thing vest' for girls item #33421 I caved and got it for my daughter. As usual there are more Crewcuts coats that interest me than women's-
ReplyDeleteGirls' Carondelet coat
$325.00 item 33740 only 1 left!
Looks amazing, but not in the budget....
Off topic but just got a Free ship code for Nordstom's good until December 20th for purchases over $100- HOLIDAY10
I LOVE Nordstrom's so just wanted to share.
jcrewphd, so sorry to hear you are not happy with the short Icon trench. I love mine, wearing it a lot lately. I will be looking for your review tomorrow to find out why it doesn't work for you.
ReplyDeleteI placed a Red Phone order today as well, there was no issue whatsoever, I just told the PS about the online deal and she placed the order. However, I did ask if they would match the 25% in store and she said they couldn't do that. I'm still happy, even if I have to wait a few days for the items to arrive.
ReplyDeleteStill not going for the sale, considering no free ship AND I have STILL not received my rewards card, what GIVES with that? And, they keep constantly dumping my cart, I'm ready to scream anarchy. Grrrrrrrr.
ReplyDeleteSubscribing. :)
ReplyDeleteThis promo irritates me! And I let JCrew know it. As a cardholder (a spendy cardholder) shouldn't my exclusive promo be a bit sweeter than the general promo? I will let you know what their reply is. grrr... hoping to get the extra % applied the ginormo order that was just delivered.
ReplyDeleteStacy, I agree. There ought to be real benefits to being a cardholder. Good luck getting the promo retroacively applied. I was denied (how is it more cost-effective for me to reorder and return?!), but it completely depends on who you talk to.
ReplyDelete
