This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.
So
if you have recently purchased,
or stopped by a J.Crew store to try
on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you
might be willing to share that
information with us in this post.
Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.
In
particular, if you could
mention a few of the noteworthy
details like fit, size, fabric, and the
like— that would be fantastic! Thanks
in advance! :)
From Madewell, i finally received the Central shirt in Tartan Plaid after admiring it on Ema and Ina @crazyaboutjcrew and @inawonderland5. They were both able to size down but since I'm a bit taller I went with my regular size, XS. it's supposed to have an oversized fit, but on me the fit is loose through the body but way too short. The sleeves are an inch above my wrists, and the length barely hits my hips—I could wear with the double serge wool mini but I couldn't tuck into mid rise jeans. I think I read someone describe the fabric as a Christmas tablecloth and it reminds me of a 70s/80s tablecloth. The wool blend is soft but definitely a noticeable texture, not smooth. My skin is sensitive but I didn't find it too itchy, it's really soft. I think it reads as very casual. It's not right for me because of the length, but if you like the scale of plaid and like the deeper red and green tones (which are more prominent in this plaid than the true red) check it out.
ReplyDeleteI also got some JCREW jewelry. The lucite link necklace in the vintage quartz (sort of a midtone mauve) is beautiful and chunky. The color might be a bit tricky. I bought as gifts but almost want to keep one myself.
Lucite and pave necklace, I bought this also as gifts and I think it will work fine for the recipient but I'm not crazy about it myself. I thought it could be doubled but even with my thin neck I don't think this will work for me. Still a nice gift.
Enamel and pave leopard bracelet: at the sale price, love this.
Tried on some things from Madewell.
ReplyDeleteThe Flannel Zip-Front Popover Shirt (#F9220) in Gallery Green. This is short. I've been disappointed that so many Madewell tops have been short lately (I'm not even a tall person). The color and fabric are great.
Southfield Mockneck Sweater (f9719) in Mauve. I'm on the fence about this one. It's square/boxy/cropped and I didn't love the shape. The mockneck is thick but loose. It's thick but it wasn't that heavy and somehow didn't seem that warm.
Oversized Jean Jacket: Sherpa Edition (f7914). It's never available so I don't know! I wish they'd quit featuring it if they're not going to sell it any more. I've been looking at it for weeks and it's never been back in stock.
Silk Maison Button-Back Top in Painted Floral (g0057). It's a drapey fit, a lot like the tie-back velvet top. It's the same weight silk as other Madewell silk tops I have from previous years. I liked it, but I'm not sure where I'd wear it.
Extra 50% off sale with code CARDPERK and your Jcrew credit card today only. Update was fairly sale today with about 400 items added around 7am eastern. Hoping for a big afternoon restock.
ReplyDeleteFairly small update. I need a proofreader!
DeleteYes! Was so excited it was 50% off sale and not just FS items! Bought the lucite link necklace for $27 something and double-serge pencil skirt for $55! Also going to give the holly sweater a go, against my better judgement (I'm tall).
DeleteYou might luck out with the Holly sweater. I initially sized up to get a bit more length (based on reviews), but found that too boxy so re-ordered in my usual JC size. Laid the two side by side, and the smaller size was 2" narrower through the body but 1" longer overall. I do wish JC's sizing was more consistent, but in this case it worked out to my advantage!
DeleteI love the holly sweater. Last year's, anyway. I have 3.
DeleteAppx when does the afternoon restock/update happen?
ReplyDeleteIt is random. It used to be only early am but now things pop back all through the day. You just have to keep checking and it seems like when there are extra good deals nothing ever pops back in time for you to take advantage of the sale.
Deletethe colette bow snakeskin pumps are really cute, the heels are a soft orange suede, low heels, the bow is different but works. However the sole is man-made, not leather and at the original price, that's disappointing; with the 40% off maybe acceptable.
ReplyDeleteThe tweed Avery heels from
ReplyDeletefall were on a crazy good deal this morning in the sale section; hope one of you were able to nab them! They were the wrong size for me!
I wore the wolf tooth pants to a holiday party on Saturday and loved them! Lots of compliments! I took my normal size even though some reviewers said to size down. I had been wanting some thicker turtlenecks so I tried the tippi, but they went back. The neck was very high and tight and the sleeves had a blouson effect I didn't care for. I also sent back the pansy printed dress which was a huge disappointment. The elastic sewn waist looked cheap and buttons down the front didn't lay right. Shame on the poor construction since it's a pretty fabric.
I had the same reaction to the Tippi tneck. It was just way too tight on the neck for me and I knew it would be uncomfortable. Shame because I liked the fit other than that.
DeleteThis is more of a vent
ReplyDeleteOrdered a collection dress on pop back and it came USED (lipstick stains and perfume odor!)
I had something similar happen a few years ago - ordered cotton pants and when they arrived, it was obvious that they'd been washed!
DeleteI sent them back with a note that this was the condition I'd received them - and they just credited my account - no apology - no communication.
Funny side note: this year I received a skirt from Shopbop, but it had a Nordstrom tag! I sent an email to Shopbop about it, and they wrote back and apologized, and gave me a small credit to my account for the trouble!
I would love to review the wool Paley pants in Cabernet that I ORDERED ON NOVEMBER THIRD YES THAT'S NOVEMBER. I learned that they were back ordered until NOVEMBER 22. Meanwhile they were available in all sizes on the web, with a better promo, so I shrugged and ordered another pair on November 28 WHICH SHIPPED DECEMBER 5, and of all things ARRIVED DECEMBER 6, yes, DECEMBER 6, and which I wound up returning - tight like tights, itchy , etc.
ReplyDeleteHowever the patient SA explained that a larger size would not be itchy, and convinced me to order the larger size, which I did, since I never learn. These "shipped" December 11, and through the wonders of Narvar, I learned they are at the Post Office. However the PO's very own website - USPS.com - doesn't find the tracking number, which as we all know means that a label was printed and the package itself is still sitting around somewhere in Crewland.
As to the first pair of pants - remember them? I'm glad you do, because although I now have a tracking number on them, too, the PO also hasn't yet identified that number.
So the review will be deferred until I have tried on the latest and possibly last pair of pants. Ever.
wow, some wild ride those first pair of pants has been on! I actually am curious to hear the review of the larger size as I've been considering the wool Paleys for a very long time!
DeleteThat's quite the journey for those pants! I loved the color online in those pants and bummed I missed the blazer. I have the Paley pants and like them as an alternative to full length trousers with the slim ankle length leg.My only gripe is that they don't have belt loops. I need to size up in them to accommodate my hips and therefore the waist is a little big but it's usually manageable. I should probably get them altered to fit my waist better. I hope they work out for you when they finally arrive!
DeleteThey are the J Crew version of Traveling Pants
Deletewait, there was a blazer?
Delete@wellfedfred the super 120s wool Campbell blazer comes in heather cabernet - which is the same as the Paley pants I believe? Item b9675. And I'm seeingthat the blazer is in stock, so it must have been the pants that sold out quickly (delivered to post offices in the sky apparently). I just remembered that one was out of stock so I didn't get the other coordinating piece but I love the color. Ok, enough droning on.
DeleteAs promised, an update on the High-waist binkini bottom in seersucker, and the High-waist French bikini in Italian matte. I had initially returned the gingham XL (definitely too big) and kept the Italian matte XL (a bit big, but wearable). I reordered the size L in both and am keeping both and returning the Italian matte XL. So, my final conclusion is that they fit TTS (I'm a size 12). I'm very glad I took a chance on these before they went to Final Sale. I'm looking forward to a break from swimskirts and swimshorts without giving up too much coverage. Now if only I was going somewhere warm this winter...
ReplyDeleteNothing like wearing a pilled up Cambridge Turtleneck on a cold day. :( Hate my whole outfit now, can't wait to get home.
ReplyDeleteI just tried on the two I bought this season (one chunky and one cable chunky) -!: they've both slightly pilled. I did buy a lint remover and I'll take care of them, I love the sweaters otherwise and have already worn them several times. But the pilling is frustrating.
DeleteYes, DD! Why oh why can't JC address the pilling problem on the newer iterations of this wonderful staple in my wardrobe? I have been wearing the Chunky Cambridge Cable Turtleneck through our Midwest winters for a decade, and my sweaters from years ago are in much better condition than the two I purchased last season!
DeleteI haven't purchased Cambridge sweaters since 2009 because of the pilling. Won't risk it again until I hear reports of better fabric.
DeleteI have about 5 of them from 2010 until last year. My two from 2010 look great, my other 3 have varying piling/quality issues. The worst is my one from 2014, it looks like a cheap rag. I had that same feeling on Monday when I wore my new one, which is a pretty violet color, but it felt cheap and worn.
DeleteI had a few, a few years ago, and I got rid of them because the pilling was so annoying. Simply moving my arms throughout the day caused crazy amounts of pilling on the torso and arm of the sweaters.
DeleteTwo more reviews from a delivery tonight:
ReplyDeletethe Harlow cardigan in black is a Miss for me. I ordered my usual XS. It's fitted and actually kind of long (and I have a long torso). Sleeves are tight and wool is almost sheer. I was thinking I could wear it over a plaid shirt for holidays but it won't work.
Got the Avery colorblock suede pumps. They show signs of minor wear, scuffed soles and heel (back of heel) which could simply be from try ons. They run large as the 8.5 feels a little loose. Someone else mentioned that thecolor of the color block is basically their skin tone and it creates a weird visual effect. I have this issue as well. I do love the height of the heel, and the pointy toe. Super cute with jeans and with the mini skirts I tried, I think for when I would wear these I'd be better off with the plain patent ones (now sold out). So if anyone wants an 8.5 they'll be going back to j.Crew Short Hills tomorrow or Thursday. Or feel free to DM me on IG @wearthislikethis
@SuzHas, thank you for the info on the black Harlow cardi. I was thinking of it but you've saved me a return. :) when I saw some of the other colours in a store they looked a bit pilled so I was worried about how they'd hold up.
DeleteIi wonder if those are the same Avery heels I received. I ordered an 8 and a 8.5 and they both were scuffed/worn looking, so I just returned both of them. They are cute though! But I decided I didn't need them (and I was annoyed with their condition).
ReplyDeleteThat's funny/bizarre! I wonder. It wouldn't be difficult for the suede to be brushed but I'm surprised they were shipped out like this. If I loved them I'd keep them, but at still over $100 not for me. (I wear flats all the time and heels when I want to dress up. So the midi heel is great for comfort but when I want to dress up I feel like I'm ok in a 3-4 inch heel. I'd wear these in lieu of flats, most likely.)
DeleteI received the Factory Leather Moto Jacket in navy yesterday. I took a chance on this one as the reviews were great and at under $200 the price was great. It's gorgeous! The leather is luxe and the navy color will be so versatile and isn't quite as "rocker" as black. I love it. Looks like it cost 3x the price.
ReplyDeleteI definitely had to size down for the wolfstooth pants as the elastic can easily bag out a bit, and with its silhouette there are quite a bit of booty fabric that I could fill in.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried F8336, the Garment-Dyed Chino Ruffle Skirt?
ReplyDeleteMy silver sequin skirt arrived yesterday and sadly it is too small. I ordered a 10, which is a size down, based on the reviews and what popped back on the website. I can see how people sized down if they are straighter on the bottom because the waist area was still a little loose on me but I am absolutely going to need my regular size to accommodate my hips and rear end. The skirt is absolutely gorgeous though - the way the sequins are sewn on the skirt to overlap makes for a visually beautiful skirt. I will be trying to snag this in my size!
ReplyDeleteDang it! Hope you're able to snag it! I agree it's a beautiful skirt & your point about sizing is spot on (buttocks & hips are a no go for sizing down).
Delete@mygoddy I snagged a 12 this morning and with 40% off! It hasn't been eligible for a few of the promotions. Woo hoo. Fingers crossed that it ships!
DeleteWoot woot! Yes to fingers crossed!

I also posted this in the 'Looking to Love' thread...
ReplyDeleteA few loves for me as of late: Double-breasted blazer in Italian wool with satin lapel - item F8113. This blazer is gorgeous in person, and definitely worth the price with the extra 40% off. The cut is very flattering, and the satin lapel is such a lovely added touch. I had initially ordered the size 0, and while it fit well through the body, it felt a tad snug through the shoulders and upper arms, so I reordered the size 2, and it is perfect. I am going to pair it with the Lace Reindeer Tee (another love), Swarovski® crystal necklace in gold (love), and a pair of jeans. I also plan to wear it with the Tartan Maxi Skirt (another love), and a white button down.
I have also recently purchased both colors of the Tuxedo ruffle top in stretch silk georgette, as well as the polka-dot version...love all of these! I ordered my normal size 0 in the solid version, but sized up to a 2 in the dotted one due to the shoulders being tight on the size 0.
The Men's Slim oxford cocktail shirt in plaid is another keeper. I purchased this one for myself in a size small for a 'boyfriend fit', and love it. The quality is excellent, plus the shirt is soft and cozy/comfy to wear...especially when lounging at home.
Also love the Lady Coat with braided trim. I purchased this one is size 0, and it fits comfortably through the shoulders, as well as the rest of the body. As others have mentioned, the quality on this one is excellent, plus I happen to adore the longer length. I plan to pair this one with a charcoal grey Theory ribbed sweater, dark grey boyfriend jeans from Madewell, brown belt, and a pair of dark brown Cole Haan short boots. I'll also wear it with a white button down, jeans, and black booties.
